She risks forfeiting her life to warn Brand of an impending attack but she doesn’t hesitate. Brand has her in his arms once more and he will never lose her again.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
This is my favorite Laurann Dohner series and I was STOKED when I saw this was coming out. I've re-read Mate Set about 20 times and My Purrfect Mate a close second to that.
I just love her male leads and her stories in general. They are just simple, straightforward alpha males set in straightforward paranormal environments with a whole lot of "you are fucking mine" chest thumping.
It's possessive, hormonal, paranormal bodice ripping at it's finest - with the main course being sex with a side order of cheesy. I unabashedly admit to loving it.
Out of the three main wolves in the "Mating Heat" series (Grady, Anton and Brand), Brand is definitely the nicest male. When he was in college, he fell in love with a half leopard named Charma. But Charma was promised to her pride leader's son and one morning she ran away in order to protect Brand. So for almost 10 years Charma is miserably mated to a man that she hates and who abuses her, while Brand tries to forget about her and he has always different parterns during the mating heat. When Charma learns that the Cats are about to attack the Wolves for revenge (because of Anton and his mate and the damage they caused - see previous book His Purrfect Mate), she tries to warn the wolves. And Brand and Charma meet again. This time Brand will not let her go.
I really LOVED this book. I really hope that at some point Laurann Dohner will continue with this series. The stories could surely be expanded- especially now that Wolves have started liking Cats.
Definitely my favorite among the 3 books in the series! Laurann Dohner is such a brilliant PNR author. I love a good paranormal read that would send my e-reader on fire, and this author did just that!
Brand and Charma are my favorite couple in this series. Charma was a half-human, half-leopard who couldn't shift, while Brand was a full-blooded werewolf. They both met and fell in love in their teens, but their huge differences affected their relationship deeply because prides were werewolves' sworn enemies. Until circumstances broke them apart, and Brand was in rage when Charma left him. Nine years later, they meet again and this time, Brand isn't about to let Charma go.
There wasn't much angst and conflict in this book, but the story itself still left me speechless. I love the intense love and chemistry between Brand and Charma. And the sex scenes were absolutely filthy and panty-melting hot! Probably Dohner's steamiest sex scenes ever written IMO. I couldn't for the life of me imagine a feline being mated (or rather fucked) by a canine, but Dohner delivered the scenes pretty well, and boy did it left the pages of this book on fire.
The only thing that slightly unsettled me was the years Brand and Charma were apart. Brand was a werewolf and had a very high sex drive, so it was inevitable that he had sex with other female wolves during their heat seasons. Charma as well had another pride mate (who basically didn't care for her). I didn't expect both to be celibate the years they were apart, because that wouldn't have made the story believable. But still, part of me wished that Brand remained celibate all those years instead. I mean, a girl like me could wish, right? That said, this book is one of my favorites by Dohner. I hope Braden and Bree will have their own book soon.
Rating: 4.5 stars. Series: 3rd book in the Mating Heat series. Can be read as standalone. Cliffhanger: No. HEA: Cheating:
I had been waiting and waiting for another book from the Mating Heat series and I FINALLY got my prayers answered.
Brand, is the cousin of Anton and Grady. He meets half-human/half-leopard shifter Charma while in college and the two fall into a passionate love affair.
HOWEVER...
When duty at home calls Charma to take hold of a previous made agreement with her and another leopard shifter to protect the lives of her family, she returns home leaving Brand with no word and heartbroken.
Fast forward nine years later, and Charma is now unhappily mated to Garrett, the son of her clan leader. Garrett is abusive, terrorizing, and doesn't give one rip for Charma.
But when fate intervenes to have Garrett and the rest of Charma's clan to rage an attack over Brand's pack, she impulsively takes the opportunity to warn Brand regardless that she has now signed her own death sentence.
So Brand...
Still reeling over the disappearance of the love of his life, Brand is stoic and considered to be cold hearted by many of his pack members, particularly the women.
When Charma explodes back into his life, he is determined to not let her get away and finally claim her. Will Charma reciprocate his affections? And with the threat of her former pack on the prowl, will they survive?
Read and you will find out!
My thoughts: To be honest, I don't really have any lingering thoughts or feelings other than if Charma never returned to Brand, this would have been his song anthem:
Otherwise...I'm still actually, REALLY HOPING that the author's next book release will be from the Zorn Warriors series!! Particularly, on Vhon and Coto!!
Recomendable.
How I love this serie, even if I loved this story a little less than the other books ... maybe because they already knew each other before. I like when the heros meet in the story.
Love It!!! All of it. Definitely the best of the series. Brand is AWSOME. He is so very much in love with Charma. He's going on the favorite males list. I'm really hoping Rave gets a book next and I want to know what the future holds for the Harris pack. Happy reading!!
L.D. switch it up a bit, with the return of a lost love, and second-chance romance for cousin Brand and ½ snow leopard shifter Charma. I didn’t like this one as much; I think because there just wasn’t much going on. The couple has an instant-love reunion with like zero lingering anger from Brand…like at all. Now, I know all would have been forgiven with a convo, but BEFORE he even knows the situation; he’s down for immediate mating. I mean she left you NINE years ago with zero explanation, and you searched for four years for her, and you’re not even a little pissed. (??) Also, there’s not even the forbidden/frowned upon relationship tension, because Anton & Shannon already paved the way for kitty shifters. The “action/conflict” is uneventful and over quickly, and the follow through is done off page.
There was also IMO several plot holes…like during the “re-uniting” neither can smell or recognize voices/back of their long lost love… the fact he just bit over Garrett’s mate mark when every other book has made these “mating bites” irreversible (the dad is also in an arranged/not love match and he has to go into a coma)… the fact that they just reached out to the other pride to get their help with killing another cat shifter, where last book the two shifter species just tried to kill each other on sight… now they sign a treaty. (??) AND, I found the flow choppy with all the flashbacks, and slow.
Bottom Line- I know I’m the minority here, but I found this one a dud, and beyond frustrating that she teased so many “relationships” (M.I.A. Von & his human; Rave & his mystery woman; Braden & Charma’s sister, and Debbie’s still out there pining over Parker going through heat alone because Von took off. Since it’s been six years, I’m assuming all these subplots are just being dumped. 🤷♀🤷♀
Just finished reading Mating Brand. First LOL. His ex-girlfriend's offer to be a boy toy for her's grandma. Again LOL. That was so mean. And now about other stuff's...Well now I'm curious about where the hell Von did go? And what about a girl who asked Rave for asylum because her pack was not good at all? And is there a spark going on between Braden and Bree? OMG. There so much going on and I want to know what right NOW. Oh and I loved Braden's attitude. He really loves to annoy his family and other member's of his pack with his carefree act. But I think, they don't give enough credit to Braden. He may be young by shifters age, but he has good head on his shoulders and heart in the right place. And there are others I'm getting more and more interested. Yes. I'm talking about the twins. Kane & Klax. There going to be their's storys? I really hope so. Great book Laurann. Again. Edited: This is one of my rereads books. Never gets old. It seems, in my review I talked, but didn't mentioned the main couple. My bad. Lol But there really lots of things getting my curiosity. I need next books ASAP. What Charma did in the past... Most of the time in the books, I get annoyed by this choice and just wanna to shake them. But this time, I'm undecided. I'm not happy with Charmas choice, but on the other hand, things were just not right for them be together. There was uncertainties and things at stake. Especially for her, when she had more then about herself to think. And after everything happening in previous two books and add Charmas present situation, it's seems like fates aligned everything for theirs time to come. Brand... He is up there with Anton on the BBF list. Charma just came back into his life and he don't gives a damn about anyone or anything. Brands main focus is don't let his second chance to escape. She's his mate and that's that. The way he loves Charma unconditionally... "Give me the address of where you lived. I’ll get them and bring them home, Charma. Here with us." You may don't understand this snipped out of context, but when you read that moment... My God, that man just... Yeah, on the top of the list.
So I've been without the internet for 2 weeks and I'm trying to get some reviews done of the books I've been reading. And GRs just ate another review! I'm never going to get done at this rate.
Middle of the road read. Too much love too quick. The heroine shows back up after 9 years and the hero instantly forgives her and loves her and just blah. Romances are supposed to be about the journey of two people overcoming some sort of obstacle in order to be together whether that obstacle in internal or external. Here there wasn't really any obstacle thus there was no tension. It was sort of like reading a Hallmark card.
I some of LD's other series better. But if this one had fulfilled its potential I could have gotten behind it.
Reread 1/2016 - Just what I was wanting , easy read with lots of naughty bits.
Charma and Brand fell in love years ago, but problems caused it to not work out even though they were soulmates. Brand is a super alpha male and I love being able to watch them fall back into love.. if they were ever out of it.... *Sigh. I am sad that this series has stopped being written, LD says she will write another one, but its been FOREEEEEVER.
I was really hoping the next book in the series would be one of the brothers. Brand is delicious, but I was digging all those smexy siblings.
The book is slightly non-linear, we get the back story and then jump forward nine years. My major problem with the plot is that they were together and she leave him to mate with someone else. In my world that smacks of cheating. I know there are circumstances, aren't there always.
Brand is delicious and Alpha and oh so protective. I kind of like that he was all about forgiving and getting his woman back. I was expecting that to be a bone of contention, but he was awfully sweet and understanding.
Charma is great in the beginning, then that mating takes a lot of the spunk out of her. It is nice to watch her grow and get back to who she was before. It is a tough journey.
Again with the insta hate between shifters. I feel like that is strange. I know they are basically dogs and cats, natural enemies, blah, blah, blah. The problem I have is that they are humans as well, they live in our society, so general rules should apply. Trying to kill someone on the street or fearing you will be killed in a college classroom, seem extreme. Okay, so I guess I have two complaints.
The rest of the story flowed nicely. Plenty of action and movement in the plot. I love the mixed narrative, it really helps you understand the two leads. Hearing their POV gives you greater insights into their motivations and feelings.
Oh course the steam is yummy and oh so detailed. Reunion smexy time is hawt!! What I wouldn't give for a smexy dominant wolf!! They really know how to talk naughty and follow through!!! Have a very cold shower ready!!!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by G. C. VonCloudts, who does a great job. Plenty of variation in the voices and consistency. She has a great tone that leads itself to the material. I loved her energy throughout the read, especially in the naughty bits! The girl gives good voice!
I do enjoy this series and I can only hope there will be more. I think it is kind of on the back burner because of Ms Dohner's other more popular series. Fingers crossed there will be more to come and all the siblings get HEA!!
I loved this book. A really touching and exciting story. Brand is a Mate to die for because he would do the same. We need another Brand and Charma book so we can find out about the repercussions of her leaving her Pride and other things that I don't want to mention so that I don't give away too much information. If you like Laurann Dohner (as I do) you will love this book.
This is a story about second chance love. Brand and Charma fell in love in college but Charma was keeping secrets. When Brand went for a run one day after they had a fight, he came home to find Charma gone and no way to find her. Nine years later they meet again and the love they felt is still there. There are still obstacles to overcome but one thing they know for sure, they don't want to spend another nine years apart.
I really loved this story! I was pretty surprised by how much I liked it. I thought I would be so mad at Charma but her reasons for leaving were valid. I do think things could have been different if she was more honest with Brand when they first met but since she was pride and he was pack, her distrust made sense.
This is book three in the Mating Heat series and I feel they all stand alone. The main characters from the previous books are in this one as well but you won't be lost if you come into book three first. I always suggest reading series in order just because you get a better understanding of the world and characters when you start at the beginning.
One thing I was pleasantly surprised with, and it's not spoiler-y since Brand is very upfront from the beginning, was how accepting Brand was of Charma's return and didn't really even hold a grudge. The love he felt for her when they first met is still there, just as strong when they meet again. Same for Charma. She never thought that Brand would want her back but when she realizes that he is willing to accept her as she is, she is more than willing to jump back into a relationship with him. I was so happy to read about a couple that loved each other enough to accept all the crap that happened and not make it a huge drama about what happened in the past.
There are some little Easter eggs dropped about different characters; Von, Rave, Braden, Bree to name a few. I am excited to see where Dohner goes with this series next. The characters and possibilities are endless.
In book two we learn about Brand and how we had a relationship with a she-cat. Well, that she-cat comes back to warn him and his pack about her pride and the other pride's going after them for revenge from what happened in book two.
I loved how when Brand sees her he automatically won’t let her go again. And how their connection is as strong as it was even with the time they were apart.
This book is action-packed and HELLA sexy no lye lots of steamy scenes.
I kinda of wanted another book!! I loved how this one ended but I feel like we are missing some great side characters stories like the cousin and the enforcers. I am sad that it seems like this series is done.
I loved the narration, the male voice’s the female voice’s G.C. VanCoudts does a freaking amazing job!
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
This was a quick read. There really wasn't a great deal of conflict in this one between the H and h. Actually there really wasn't any despite the h running away from the H nine years prior. I thought the H would be a little angrier with Charma but he wasn't. It made it a little nice there wasn't a great deal of bickering but left little but lots of nookie between the two.
There was a small bit of action as the Pride enforcers from Charma's old pride came to kill Brand (the hero) and members of his Pack. This came from things that happened in the previous books when Brand's cousin's mate was kidnapped by a bunch of Pride members and was almost raped.
Good fast story with some grammatical errors but a decent enough read.
Third book in this series featuring Brand. I really liked his character he was so easy to relate to. He met Charma at college, they fell in love,Brand thought it was forever but Charma was promised to a male of her pack. She'd no choice or her whole family would be in danger. Besides he's a werewolf and she's a half human leopard shifter. So she runs away leaving Brand devastated.
Nine years later and desperately unhappy Charma discovers her pack are about to attack Brand's, she runs away to warn him. She soon discovers their feelings for one another have not changed.
Great book that's hot and romantic. Plus there's plenty happening elsewhere in the story. All the characters from the previous two books are featured as well. I hope the wait for the next book isn't too long.
3 1/2-4 stars. Story line 3 stars. I Boosted the rating up because I really enjoy this author's writing style-especially after some of the other books I have been reading. It had a great flow--easy to understand even though the the time line moved back and forth with flashbacks. Good dialog, well developed characters, and spicy intimate scenes. However, I found it a little on the slow side, even with the constant threat of action. The romance was very sweet to me, without really any angst, despite the description of past love gone wrong. Except for their first meeting, there really wasn't any tension or friction in the relationship. I thought it made the story a little flat.
Actually a fun an Hot read. Not a page turner as some of the New Species books. I will look forward to read the next book from his erotic paranormal series. Laurann mentioned a dark twins. It would be amazing if Laurann would step out of her standard script and surprise us with a existing story about the twins and Charma's sister ???? Or is this just wishful-thinking ??
Laurann did it again. I just love the Harris family, they live by a code and family is everything. Be it human, werewolves, cats they protect all. I'm so happy Charma and Brand found their way back to each other. Can't wait to see what see has in store for for the remaining brothers. Great job Laurann.
Love the book Brand was a true Alpha was so happy when Charma wised up and went to him. Loved both her sisters and the way they supported her. Brand was a true Alpha and and loved the way he just took over. Lots of action and some steamy love scenes Ms. Dohner has another winner.
It was so fun. I love Brand, and Charma was great. I am super curious about Branden and Bree though!! They're the babies, but like they're also NOT babies so they could totally hook up lol. I'm also looking forward to Raves book and I'm just invested in that entire pack at this point lol
I loved brand storyline with charma wow what a roller coaster ride. I really want bree story next to happen. I laughed and loved this book and the things that happened bring on some more!!
3.5 stars A sweet second chance, paranormal story, that also had possible triggers for some readers. Not my favorite of the series, but still good. I was hoping to see a book for between the sister and cousin, their story seemed like one I would really enjoy.
