Marie Rydzynski-Ferrarella
aka Marie Charles, Marie Michael, Marie Nicole, Marie Ferrarella

Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.

Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.

Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.

After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.

In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

Politics have forced Countess Krystyna Poniatowska to flee Poland all the way across the Atlantic to North America. Things aren't any better here as rebellion is brewing in the British colonies. Krystyna is a survivor who doesn't take crap from anyone, so why didn't I like her? This is usually the kind of character I adore but we just never connected and I don't know why. Love interest Jason McKinley is consumed with getting up under Krystyna's skirts and that's all to be said about his character.

I will give the book credit for one thing: George Washington's mother, Mary, makes a brief appearance. Was she really that awful? I'm now inspired to learn more about ol' George and his life.

Krystyna fears that everything is lost forever. She never thought that she would need to escape from her homeland. Her father did his best but he lost his life to their enemies and now she is living with Jason & his family. She doesn't even know him but he has been kind to her and she thinks that she can trust him. Jason has fallen hard for Krystyna she is fierce and very loyal but he fears that she will just cause even more trouble. Can they find a way to get along without them wanting to rip each other's clothes off? She fears that she can't stay she needs to find a way back home to regain her family's honor but it means leaving Jason behind. Can she really live without him? Jason knows that no matter what he does or says that she will leave him behind can he go on without her by his side?
A good read.

Fun but predictable

The characters were fun if not largely stereotypical. The storyline had a lot crammed in.
It was a fun read.

The revolutionary time period is not my favorite, but this book was well-written and kept my attention. I loved how the heroine was able to handle herself realistically and although needed rescuing sometimes, she also rescued others. She stood up for her beliefs and never compromised those beliefs. Good read.

Okay

Although I had a hard time following along sometimes, the book was good. I love the historical aspects of the founding of this great country and the author's understanding of the desperation and conflict soldiers on both sides felt was touching. Thanks for writing this book 's Farella.

Good read

I enjoyed this book. A lot interesting dynamics going on and some great tension between Jason and Krystyna. If you like historical romance with suspense then this is the story for you.

DNF

THE HERO was merely self-serving and a bit selfish for my taste. I wanted to read about an alpha, older hero who would resist the heroine before falling in love. Instead, we get a 25 year old man who can only think about getting into the heroine's pantaloons and...not to mention just complain a little about his life. Overall, Jason's character points to a jaded but spoilt rich son...but yet again he's not exactly that.

OUR HEROINE was as prickly as a porcupine but when the hero takes her on the grass...she has no complaint. Whaaat? If I actually did like the characters, I wouldn't give two fucks if they fucked first and fell in love later.
