The Wolf Within / Cynthia Eden - 4 stars - CE is pretty hit or miss for me, but I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The h/h were both strong, clever and honorable, their romance was plausible, and the set-up left me looking forward to reading more in the series. Worth the $.99 for this story alone.

The Vampire Affair / Vivi Anna - 2 stars - The heroine is a transphobic nitwit, the hero is completely lacking in personality. I laughed a few times, but grimaced a whole lot more.

Captured / Erica Stevens - Dude. I was leaning toward 4 stars for this, which kind of surprised me as slave-master "love" stories are a hard sell for me. (When you can't say no, any yes is meaningless.) But I was rolling with it, and it was avoiding serious DNF territory until the cliffhanger ending. And since the cliffie occurred in the middle of a ragehole temper tantrum from the hero... eh, probably not picking up the next in the series.

Paris After Dark / Jordan Summers - DNF - I have vague memories of enjoying the author's RED, but never connected with the characters in this or with the setting. (Seriously, I've enjoyed my trips to Paris, but it is not the place to visit if you're an already-depressed US-American. Try Costa Rica instead.)

I've lost interest in this anthology at this point. Will update if I ever read the other two stories.

Book 1
The Wolf Within by Cynthia Eden 3 1/2 - 4 stars
This author is a favorite of mine and I've read this novella before so I'm just going to cut/paste my previous review.
Special Agent Duncan McGuire is part of the West Coast Para Unit, a secret divistion of the FBI that hunts paranormal beings who attack and kill humans. In the opening pages he is bitten by a werewolf and is transformed into one. The twist here is that only a small percent of the population have the pre-disposed DNA to become a werewolf if bitten and most other people die from the bite.

Doctor Holly Young is the lone doctor at the unit's facility. There has been an attraction between Duncan and Holly that neither one has acted on. As Duncan's transformation begins Holly is there to help him and soon his "beast" can no longer resist the pull of his desire for Holly. Holly has a secret of her own which is hinted at and you will probably be able to guess, but it isn't too long into the story before you discover for yourself.

The story is fast paced and I like how the author lets the story unfold, there are surprises and characters don't always turn out to be what you think and their motivations are not always clear. I don't want to say too much because it would spoil too much of the plot and the journey is enjoyable.

Book 2
The Vampire Affair by Vivi Anna - DNF
Itried. I really tried, I put it down twice and went back to it but I could not get into it.

The heroine is beyond annoying. A reporter for a gossip magazine trying to get a story on a sexy and mysterious billionaire. I couldn't believe he would every see anything in her so I gave up. Life's too short to force myself to read something I don't enjoy.

Book 3
The Dark's Mistress by Michelle Hauf - 3 stars.
I had high hopes for an epic love story. The author is a good writer who obviously loves the paranormal world she's created and this story felt like a love letter. The descriptions, and language she uses drew me in quite like the heroine is drawn to her master.

Alas, it fell way short in the romance department. So many things were right but so many missed chances. Worst of all, only one love scene but the H & h NEVER consummate. I was left with an unsatisfied feeling (no pun intended).

Kambriel a vampire is the daughter of and twin sister of characters in previous books. She's been in Paris for a time though she can't remember exactly how long. She has a mysterious man in her life who gives her everything she could want, including the ability to sing and create a club out of thin air for her to perform in. She has a dark ethereal air about her.

Enter our hero Johnny, a vampire and rock singer in his own right and he's drawn to Kam. Johnny is anything but an alpha. He is devastatingly charming but he somehow decides he want to woo Kam and be "worthy" of her. But Kam has terrifying secrets which can harm anyone who gets near her.

If you've read Michelle Hauf before, you can guess who the dark boyfriend is and that I find fascinating. The author has explored this character in ways I suspect other authors are just not willing to take on so that gives it something special.

Ultimately I was disappointed that the romance and falling in love didn't happen organically. On one page they like each other and feel like they how the "potential" to fall in love (how luke warm is that?)and the next morning declare they love each other. I just didn't buy it. Also, I admit, I LOVE explicit love scenes and this story just did not deliver on it's promis.

Book 4
A Taste for Passion by Patrice Michelle - 3 Stars
Rana is mourning the death of her beloved grandfather. She finds a ring in an antique store that intrigues her and seems to emit a fragrance only she can smell.
Lucien, a vamipire has pined for his lost fiancé who died 80 years ago, before he could convert her. The ring was designed to find his mate should she ever be reincarnated.
Once Lucien finds Rana he begins to slowly seduce her and she is completely attracted to him, still unaware of what he is.

Lucien is seriously sexy and hot, and the love scenes were smoking.

Rana frustrated me sometimes with her inconsistency, she was so back and forth about her feelings for Luc sometimes even within the same paragraph. Example: When she finds out Luc is a vampire she's hurt and angry but it never really gets discussed and is brushed under the carpet. Also, (without being too spoilerish) when something major happens in the story a new character appears, she just believes everything he tells her without batting an eye and later she never says anything about it to Luc except a vague reference in passing.

Still and all, I really liked the story and would read more from this author.

Book 5
Captured by Eric Stevens
This is a DNF. I started to read it, stopped and read 3 in the Hard Ink series (which I loved) came back to it and only made it through chapter 3.
After some research, it seems it's a YA installment series with each book a cliffhanger and in the final book they don't even do the deed on the page. Not worth my time.

Book 6
Paris After Dak by Jordan Summers
Another DNF. I didn't like the heroine from the start and skimming through proved I was missing nothing.

Over all, I wouldn't recommend this anthology as a whole since I only liked 3 out 6 and the other 3 were all DNF.

I do however recommend Cynthia Eden's story which is currently free on Amazon.

I'm going to do a very basic general review because as anthologies go as always you take the good and bad this is no exception. Some of these stories I actually continued series (i.e. Captive) others didn't really go looking for any additional reads. Overall not a bad read but definitely a mixed bag. I gave them all a chance and read through all of them but some just for the sake of finishing. Not the best anthology but not the worst. I would recommend reading up on the authors other works and then decide whether you want to purchase/read this but as always this is my opinion.

I tried to read 3 of the stories, but they did nothing for me. So I quit. I had read Cynthia's story when it came out in 2014. I think I gave that 3 stars.

I will start with an overall book reveiw and then break it down from there. I feel this had a great mix of "vampire romance" reads, bound to be something for everyone in here. Not sure if I would spend money on this but if one enjoys paranormal romance and has the option to ge it free its well worth your time reading. There were a couple in here that I really liked.

"The Wolf Within" by Cynthia Eden
5 stars
I loved everything about this story. It was full of suspense, thrills and excitement at every turn of the page. Hardly a dull moment or a spot to catch your breath! The characters are well-developed, likable and had some serious chemistry going on. I really love how Eden leaves her readers in the dark about certain things and the mystery element of that really makes magic throughout the pages. She gives just enough to stay in the loop but not enough to bore or become predictable. Couldn't put this one down!

"The Vampire Affair" by Vivi Anna
3.5 stars
Would have been a solid 4 star read but I was disappointed with the ending. Not that it was bad, just a little unoriginal and fell a hair flat compared to the expectation the precourser of the book had prepared me for. Overall though, I loved the story and the characters. The writing style of the author is just what I like! Full of witty bantering, funny puns, with entertaining antics and sensual characters I lol-ed at quite a few parts in this story. Its a quick, fun and light-hearted read! I would recommend this book and would read Anna again.

"The Darks Mistress" by Michele Hauf
1 star
I found this story to be to dark and depressing for my tastes. Very demonic and unriveting plotline, I couldn't burn my eyes anymore and stopped on page 325. The female lead (I refuse to label her the "heroine" as she was anything but) is confusing, selfish, childish and from what I read, deserves every bit of misery she is in. I didn't read far enough to be able to tell you how she got into the mess she did but from what I read it sounds like she was nieeve and unappreciative, made a deal with the devil...that kind of thing. Everything about her bothers me, I couldn't read that garbage.

"KENDRIAN VAMPIRES: A Taste for Passion" by Patrice Michelle
2.5 stars
This book had its promising moments but just as it started to ignite somethng would douse the flame. I think the sex scenes (although well written) were too abundant throughout the story and there wasn't enough plot going on inbetween to balance them. The fight scenes were okay but often short and undescriptive. At times it felt as though the author was rushing through scenes to try and get to some unknown spot in the book. Overall, this story leaves me yawning and unimpressed. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. I would, however, read this author again. I am willing to give Michelle the benefit of the doubt and assume this is an early book in her career, just due to the fact that the writing has potential to be better and just has a slight "amateur" feel to it.

"Captured" by Erica Stevens
4 stars
I really enjoyed this read. The writing style was smooth and naturaland the author has a great "voice". The plotline veered a little close to boring throughout the middle but both the beginning and the ending were strong. I will be continuing this series and would recommend this book to others.

"Paris After Dark" by Jordan Summers
1.5 stars
This book just bordered being alright for me. The plotline was okay but the writing could have used a lot of improvments. The author should work on being more descriptive of the setting and taking her time on scenes. There were quite a few parts that felt rushed or unnatural. She should also try and be a little more cryptic in her writing and stop giving all the answers or blatant clues. A little mystery would have greatly improved this read for me. There were also a lot of plot inconsistencies and things that just didn't make sense. I found it to be annoying.

I really enjoyed the variety in this boxed set of paranormal books. There is such a mixture of story lines: Vampire-Werewolf, Vampire-Demon, Vampire-Vampire, FBI, historical....just to name a few. There is definitely something for everyone. Each author offers a fresh voice on the world of vampires and spins a tale of romance and mystery that will keep you turning the pages. There is also a mixture of book lengths, which is nice.

Whether you've read these authors before and just can't get enough of them, or you are looking for a new author that you will love, this is a great collection of stories that introduce you to the different styles of writing. Some are part of a series, like "The Wolf Within" by Cynthia Eden, which is book 1 of the "Purgatory" series. There is also a "About the Author page after each story that lets you know titles of other books they have written and links to their websites or facebook pages.....which makes it nice when you love what you just read and want more. I would recommend for anyone that enjoys reading vampire stories to read this 5 star collection.

Well, I picked up this collection at the super cheap price of ninety-nine cents. I guess it's not a bad deal, but I only read two of the stories.

I read the first two stories. I was not overjoyed or awed with the awesomeness of either story. I was going to try to read the rest, but I couldn't even be bothered after reading the synopsis for each story.

I probably wouldn't recommend this collection to anyone. I'm not going to say that others won't enjoy, but I personally don't recommend books that I don't like.

Loved this box set!! Only problem I had was that I wanted to continue reading some of the next books in the series on some of them, but also wanted to continue on to the end of the box set.

I hadn't read anything from some of the authors, so it was a good way to find out if I liked their style of writing in these particular books.

I love books about vampires! I will be going through and rating and reviewing each one of them separately so it may take me awhile. :)

An entertaining read. A couple of subpar stories but that's only to be expected in anthologies.
