Addictive Nightshade

Rate this book
Falling in love with a shadow sounds impossible, taken home to live with myths is even more insane, yet on Yule's night this is exactly what befalls Emma. Nothing in this modern world could prepare her for this new reality, the mark of Valhalla, or the depths of her connection to the mysterious Macala.

Destiny dances a wicked tango, locked to her obsession nothing makes Emma want him more than the imposed separation. He's enigmatic, a paradox, and everything she's ever needed. Walking the paths of Norse gods, Emma rises to the call of her heart. She is a lover of darkness and finds Macala an opiate, and an addictive nightshade.

This is a WOW! adventure into Norse legend brought to life in our current age. Meet the Raven clan, go into battle with Eagles, know the enemy in the wings as Wolf, and delve through snow and forest into a mountain enclave created from the wonderful imagination of author Poppet.

Meet Emma, who finds her true self and destiny when she is taken to a safe place by Macala…and Macala, reader, is definitely worthy of discovery, a delectable, powerful being with a moral code and a romantic streak. He takes on the task of bringing Emma into the fold, to teach her about her true past…and sparks fly indeed.

Master of Miasma isn't merely a great tale and, make no mistake, it is a great one. Beyond the story is fantastic imagery, every line is poetry, and the plot is cleverly woven. Ancient legends and magical spaces and objects of power and imagination takes one from page to page actually holding one’s breath. The Book of Life revealed in Master of Miasma is to die for, if you’ll excuse the pun. How I wish we (us humans) possessed such a magical thing, sigh. This is a brilliant and beautiful read, as if one’s soul recognises a past time of pure enchantment. This is profound…and it’s also an adventure to get lost with.

I cannot wait to read what comes next. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!

Oh the wondrous history and legends in this book that seductively entangle themselves with the characters in this tale of destiny and love! The author teases the reader in such a delicously torturous manner.

I enjoyed how Emma learned of the legacy left to her by past generations and how she took on the challenges of learning to use her awakened powers of the gifts. (What a ride!)

The other characters in this book are well thought out and are satisfyingly depicted; I could see them in my mind with no effort on my part. The locations are enthralling and I was sorry the book ended as I wanted to "see" more!

This is, in a way, a coming-of-age book, but peppered generously with lust, mind-blowing sex, knowledge, history, legends, gods, treachery, battles, fellowship, magic and shape-shifting.

If an erotically charged, magical history lesson with a huge wave of animal shifters mixed together, then this is one book you MUST read.

Poppet, you expand my imagination exponentially and I lay myself prostrate before your creative soul. Many thanks, dearest bard!

Norse mythology retold

I liked the underlying story itself, but had trouble relating to the heroine. She was so quick to fly off the handle, almost hysterical at times. I also had some issue with the writing style. The book is written in a very flowery prose, but the dialogue is not, and the switch back and forth could be jarring at times.

An example:

"I'm so pathetic I'm ground up, sucked in, regurgitated and sampled inside a moment, sliding vacantly down the pillar at my back to bang hard glass on my kneecap."

and:

"Cut me some slack here dude! This isn't exactly familiar territory."

DNF.

I was really thinking I would like this author. What I was hoping for was something dark and edgy. But at chapter four, I’ve come to the realization that I, in fact don’t care too much for this author. To me this is just preference. So my issues may not be such an issue with others.

To me this is all wordy long sentences that barely contains an actual story. Take in the blog from “How to Write a Novel” by SecretGeek, his insight to this topic reflects perfectly with this story:

“#4 Golden rule: the bigger the vocabulary, the better the book. Every now and then you should beflabbergastimate your reader with a shimmerglitzering showray of innovational superlatative cogitations.”

This story reminds me of the Walt Disney movie “Fantasia.” While I can appreciate its historical significance, twenty minutes into the movie and I’m gone. This story, like Fantasia, is not preferable to those like me who are plagued with ADHD. Patience is not our friend.

Over ll, this wasn’t my kind of book. I’ll give Poppet one more go at it before I decide to throw in the proverbial towel.

DNF at Chapter 4.

This has to be one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Master of Miasma is magical. I was taken on a ride, that I never wanted to stop.

It was like being doused in magical fairy dust. I couldn't stop reading.

The characters are so deep and intriguing. Emma is taken to a safe haven where she is protected, and taught what her real purpose is. Macala, along with members of his clan, are her teachers. Emma and Macala have a special bond, and their love story is captivating. The history and the journey they take is incredible.

In this story, you'll meet the Raven clan, Eagles, and the enemy Wolf clan. Not only are Poppet's characters very sexy, the entire story is one you do NOT want to miss.

Poppet weaves a story like no-one I've ever seen before. I'd definitely recommend this highly.

Unbelievably mind blowing! I was transported into this beautiful, yet unbelievable world. Learning facts and "seeing" the mystical underground world was an thrilling experience! Poppet has such a fantastical way of telling a story and making you feel as if you are really living in that world. The imagery is phenomenal! The fact that you see a forest, but it truly looks like that tree is wearing a tweed coat! :-) The magic of really knowing the historical facts to weave into a unique love story. UNBELIEVABLE!! AMAZING! MAGICAL! PHENOMENAL! These words seem to be a common theme when telling someone about Poppet's books. Again, she does not disappoint! Great job!
