Although I loved the story, and the feel/vibe, and the art, at times the art lacked clarity, which for me weakened the impact at times that it might have had.
Did they kill Shelley at the end or was she put back in the water? I like that nothing was explained, you have to take it all in and learn about the world. It was a fun ride but I didn't fully understand. Worth reading digitally at least.
It's like 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep'...kind of...sort of...
Ex detective Bennie is brought in to investigate an attack on this 'Keeper Program'. Turns out, it's a pit of darkness that swallows up anybody that looks into it. Ask a question and you too might vanish.
What secrets does it hold? Why are people disappearing? Can the truth be set free?
Great sci-fi/noir graphic novel! A plot with enough twists to keep one entertained, and gorgeous art that is a delight to look at. When they brought the old detective into town, to solve an unexpected event, they got more than they bargained for. But things are not really what they look like, and the past will catch up with them all. A great fast-paced surprising story, that I couldn't stop reading. Highly recommended.
An OK future noir. It seems to get pretty dark but it's also very confusing as to why things were happening. Almost everything is left unexplained along the way. I was fine with the ambiguous ending but there were several other things I had questions about along the way. It often felt like they were pages or scenes missing.
I think you have to order a decoder ring to understand WTF this story was about. There was some quotable lines here and there but overall not great. 3 stars exactly and I’m biased cause I really enjoyed ‘little bird’ but that story is about as much confusion as I can handle.
A bit of a let down: at the beginning, I was enthralled to find out about this future world in which this story is set. However, the info are never really fully explained which led to a bit of a frustrating finish. Great moody art though.
What I liked: The bleak atmosphere of this possible future. The unexpected twists along the way, and the way the story concludes.
What I didn't like: It's meant to be a slow burn, but some things were explained very late, and others not at all. I didn't find any of the characters particularly interesting.
Overall conclusion: It's a solid detective story with some really dark tones, but which for me failed to create an emotional connection with the protagonists. I read it to see where it goes, more than to see where the characters go.
