When High Risk Securities (HRS) agent, Eva Torres, botches an undercover job by failing to rescue both of the kidnap victims she was sent to retrieve, Quinn Blackwood—her former lover and the man who broke her heart—pulls her and one of the victims out of harm’s way. As a penalty for her sins, she’s offered the dull job of escorting a former bio-chemical warfare scientist to Washington D.C. to reunite with his daughter. Much to her displeasure, the job of monitoring her assignment is given to Quinn. Quinn isn’t thrilled with the situation either. He taught Eva everything he knew about secrets, sex, and lies—but the biggest lie of all was the one he’d told himself: that his missions for HRS were more important than anything, including his relationship with Eva. Because now that they’re working together again, the urge to put his hands on her, to feel her beneath him, is killing him. Things only get worse when their current operation goes wrong, and the scientist they’re guarding is kidnapped mid-air. Now, Eva and Quinn have to work together to find him before he is forced to create a monstrous weapon that could destroy entire cities. A hard task made more difficult when they find themselves fighting both the enemy and their building desire for each other. Can they work together for the sake of the mission without reigniting the passion between them—or will passion be the salvation of them all?
For anyone who has been following my reviews, you know that I have been taking myself out of my "I hate romance" comfort zone this month. This is another one on my list.
And, again, for anyone who has been following my reviews, no I did not choose this one for it's cover haha. When it comes to anything romance-based, I have to read the full book description (while, at other times, I either skim it or ignore it all together) because I need to know if it is actually something I will enjoy.
This one, being under the genre of suspense, thriller and mystery, was right up my alley. I really liked the story when it came to the mission that they were on and the twist at the end - completely not what I expected. Once the cop shows up ... I sat there with my mouth wide open reading as fast as I could, completely shocked by the events that were happening on the page.
My issues with the book didn't take away from my enjoyment of the suspense, but at the same time annoyed me to no end. First of all, Eva - oh my God!! Eva - she is probably one of the most annoying women I have ever read about in a book. Now, you may love her, and I won't blame you if you do, but to me, she was just too much. I get that she loved this guy and he hurt her and now they had to work together, but sheesh (You still worked together and he was one of your bosses, Eva, so you had to know that the possibility was there. And if he hurt you so bad, why do you keep throwing yourself at him, only to feel guilty afterwards?). I know I know, you're saying "Meghan, that's the romance part" and I get that, but it just didn't seem logical to me (but then maybe romance isn't supposed to be logical). Secondly, there are some editing issues, which didn't effect my rating, but this is the third book I've read from this publishing company and all three (different authors) had editing issues. Third, there was action throughout the whole thing, but it doesn't get really good until about the last maybe 75% and, as I've noticed with other books that are romance-based, everything is wrapped up into a pretty little box at the end (the happy ending/happily ever after thing) which is great and all, but it just seems a little TOO easy. Fourth, I think that the author spent too much time dealing with the romance part and not enough time with the rest. I think, if she had backed away a bit from all the longing for each other nonsense, making the romance more of a side note, that this would have been an even better book (but that is just my opinion.)
Would I read another from this series? Yes. Would I suggest it to someone else? Yes.
Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The biologist, Felix, Eva was supposed to rescue didn’t cooperate with the rescue and gave her attitude instead. She did her best to convince him to let her help; that she was one of the good guys…ugh ladies. This took precious time they did not have and it resulted in them being caught. Luckily she manages to get them out of the FARC camp and to the helicopter that would get him to safety. But her mission wasn’t over yet, one more person needed to be rescued. She prepared herself to return to the camp, preparation that wasn’t needed as Quinn hauled her ass out of there….quite literally too, he threw her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
Back at the HRS headquarters they are both reprimanded for the screw up. And they get assigned to a ‘babysitting’ job that consists of having to escort Felix to Washington, so he can meet his estranged daughter. Both Eva and Quinn think it will be a simple babysitting job, but alas it’s not. The plane Felix and Eva boarded was hijacked mid air. Turns out the good old biologist was wanted for his expertise by others than just the FARC. And his expertise of his can bring down cities, maybe even the world as they know it if they don’t get Felix back in time. Now Eva and Quinn have to follow bread crumbs and work closely together to save the lives of millions of people.
Finding Felix comes with many roadblocks, murders, the police, corrupt people….themselves. The two of them working together isn’t an easy feat, with Eva rehashing the past and their lingering attraction for one another, old hurts found their way to the surface once more. Here we do get the opportunity to glimpse into their past relationship and found out that Quinn was supposed to train her, but he did more than that. He fell in love with her, a subordinate. Something the company rules states that it was forbidden. And during their short time together he had found out why that rule exists. Eva too is forced to understand because she happened to find herself walking in his shoes along the way.
Not only that, but while following the bread crumbs, Eva and her inability to maintain her cool and have a little patience, manages to work herself in a pinch and a sub-mission was added to the initial mission: Clearing her name. She may not follow the protocols but the quality I love about her character is that she actually cares about the people she is assigned to. She doesn’t see money or just a job, she sees their needs and wants to help make things better. Apart from that she’s also tenacious, trusts few (which happened to be a good thing) and has a sarcastic side that I grew rather fond of and would have liked to see more.
Overall is this an action packed read that had me sucked right in. The little twists and turns are well put together, makes you think you know what will happen but then it doesn’t happen and you have to rethink the strategy you had in mind. It’s no Sherlock Holmes mystery but still very entertaining. I give it 4 couples.
I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Eva Torres survived alone on the streets of Bogota using her wits and skills she picked up here and there. Pickpocketing an HRS agent, she was recruited for their agency instead of being turned over to the officials. Eva has never once regretted it. During her training she meet and eventually falls in love with one of her teachers, Quinn Blackwood.
Quinn has always lived for the job. He's ex-military turned HRS agent who always follows the rules. There was just one rule that he couldn't follow, falling for a student. Eva is not like anyone he met before and he let his guard down.
The two begin a relationship that only last for a year before he leaves her. Because he loves her too much. But they both start to “heal” as time goes by, but he still keeps tabs on her, knowing her every move, every assignment. When her cover was compromised during a mission in Colombia, he was there to rescue her.
The two are then thrown together into a mission to find a kidnapped scientist and his daughter. But as the mission progresses, nothing is what it seems, people are not what they seem. Eva and Quinn also start talking about their past together, and how much they both feel things should have been different.
Risking It All For Her Boss was a lot less than I was hoping it would be. I was hoping for more suspense, more romance, more... more. The chemistry was there between the leads, there's no denying that, but the story was too repetitive and slow that the chemistry couldn't save it. The romance fell flat due to the same things.
The only part that I really enjoyed was when they were keeping eyes on a mark and they had to go into a gay bar. Best. Scene. Ever.
Read on Radish. Well-paced story with great action. Love how Eva and Quinn try to deny their feelings and wind up completing the mission because of their attraction to one another.
Blurb: When High Risk Securities (HRS) agent, Eva Torres, botches an undercover job by failing to rescue both of the kidnap victims she was sent to retrieve, Quinn Blackwood—her former lover and the man who broke her heart—pulls her and one of the victims out of harm’s way. Much to her displeasure, the job of monitoring her assignment is given to Quinn Blackwood, her former lover and the man who broke her heart. Quinn isn’t thrilled with the situation either. Thoughts: This book had romance, of course, but also a little bit of intrigue and suspense to go along with it. It was action packed, and no matter what was going on, it made for an exciting and interesting read. However, it was a bit predictable....I had guessed the villain of the piece the moment they were introduced into the story, so I would have liked a little more shock factor there, and the reasoning behind the villain's actions didn't really gel for me. I liked both Eva and Quinn, but I did have a bit of an issue when it comes to understanding the 'why' of their actions as well, so I think for me the biggest issue was character development - particularly when it comes to the reasoning behind their behaviors, actions, thoughts, and feelings. For example, Quinn's reasoning behind breaking it off with Eva and the reason he has managed to stay away from her all this time conflicts with why he is willing to get back together with her now. The way it went from point A to point B just didn't add up - I was waiting to see why this huge epiphany now, and the reasoning just lacked something for me. There is something missing there when it comes to Quinn's thought processes, and I just didn't quite feel it.
Other than that, it was an action packed book that kept you flipping those pages to see what happened next. An entertaining read for sure.

Review:
I really enjoyed the story from new to me author Sharron McClellan!
This story starts out with action and it keeps going until the end of the story. I thought the author's writing style and her topic were very entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end of the book. I think the use of the biological weapon in the story is very timely and so true to the world today.
The story is about Eva and Quinn who work for a private security firm. Eva and Quinn have had a love affair in the past, but Quinn broke things off about a year ago when he got scared that the riskiness of their job might mean losing Eva. Well, I understand where Quinn wants to protect Eva not just from himself but from outside forces, but it does not work. As they go about trying to rescue a scientist and his daughter, they fight their love for one another. I love that Eva is tough as nails, probably stemming form her past, but that she also has such a tender heart. I think Eva and Quinn are perfect for each other and was so glad they overcame their obstacles.
Without giving anything away from the story, there is tons of suspense and mystery here to keep you guessing and the ending is a real nail-biter.
This was the first time in reading this book and chose it because of the title and what it was about. I do so love a hero and when special missions are also involved it is even more delectable. Was introduced right off to one strong female character- Eva undercover to extract and rescue a scientist. But things go south she does get him but Quinn (her ex) is there to take em both out not just the one against her plans. They have one funny strong woman boss too that takes no bull-Temperance -liked her alot. Anyways she Eva that is has been regulated to something like a babysitter to deliver the good scientist home but unforseen events causes them to do things differently and he is kidnapped again. High stakes are in this novel with plenty of gripping adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat. But that is not all of course there is the heat that is still there between two that used to be together before but he walked away. Now they are forced to work together so too speak and since the heat was only put on the back burner it flairs to life. Oh buddy the fun of love and mix that with adventure and action that keeps them going, you the reader hooked this author delivers one hunky blood flowing novel. When a novel has a group such as this you are introduced also to colorful supporting characters. There is humor here and there but the really nice thing is the bad guy in this is so well hidden that when the bad guy shows the true colors you are slammed because you did not see that coming. Stubbornness is no match for love either which is just peachy for us the reader. For high adventure this has a wonderful flow that moves right along through it all till the end then you are in a book coma ha ha.Well I do say if she would not have got hooked up with Quinn I would of snatched him up. He can save the day for me anytime. Received a arc for a honest review.
This was a good story with lots of action and suspense. I love stories with a kick-ass heroine, and this one certainly did not disappoint with Eva Torres. From her background as an orphan who survived on the streets in Columbia, to her ability to master all the skills required to become a top operative, Eva was everything you want in a strong heroine.
Up until the end, Quinn was just ok for me – I really found that I wanted to slap him half the time. The way he walked out on Eva and then continued to hide his feelings was just infuriating! It added a great dynamic to the story, but boy did he get me angry! On the one hand I loved the fact that his feelings for Eva were so strong he wanted to protect her, but on the other hand I wanted to get all up in his face and remind him that part of why he loves her is her strength and ability to take care of herself, so be her partner, not her protector!
I was a little disappointed by the lack of spark and sizzle between Eva and Quinn for most of the book. I’m not sure why I never felt that over the top tension between the two characters that I really wanted to feel throughout the book. I don’t know if it was because there wasn’t a lot of back-story on their relationship (there was some, but maybe for me it wasn’t enough?), or perhaps it was that I never really got Quinn’s side of the heat, but it wasn’t until near the end when they got dirty and sweaty in the gym that I felt those sparks fly.
I did enjoy the overall story and like the premise of the HRS organization, and look forward to reading the next installment in this series.

Quinn and Eva are one hell of a duo. They work in tandem with one another. At times, it felt like they anticipated each other's next move.
Their past is always there during the story, showing up one way or another, whether it's in the form of a memory, a touch, or a sound. Their time apart is almost unnoticeable as their present is saturated with the desire that's simmering between them. It's a passion for each other that never died out. And I like that it's still there, burning in the background, waiting for that perfect moment to explode and burn brighter than before.
What I had a hard time grasping/understanding was Quinn's inability to believe in Eva enough to let go of the rules. His mouth was saying one thing but his actions said another. It was frustrating to see those roadblocks knowing they were so easy to remove and wondering why he didn't just hang the rules and go with his gut. After all, Eva learned all she knew about being an agent from him. It should've been enough of a reason to have more faith in her and her ability to get the job done.
And...yet I can't fault him his reasoning. Their past might be ever-present throughout the story, but the good part of their past is vastly overshadowed by a shared tragedy that ultimately led to their breakup.
This is a fast-paced romantic suspense that Ms. McClellan filled with excellent dialogue, descriptions, action, and adventure. Every move Quinn and Eva made helped them face their past and a truth that was undeniable: their love for one another was all they would need to make it.
I really liked this book - the story was good, with a lot of action and a sizzeling romance.
Eva Torres is a HRS agent, who is specialised on the rescue of kidnap victims. when her current job does not go as it should, she gets a dull job of escorting her victim home and to her intense displeasure her former boss and lover, Quinn is monitoring her success. but the job is not what it seems and Eva and Quinn have to work together to successfully finish the mission
this was my first book by Sharron McClellan but definitely not my last! I enjoyed everything in there - the story, the action and the romance.
the characters were really interesting and believeable - especially in their history together and how this would influence their decisions. I loved the tension between them and how they worked through their differences. Although in the end, everything was a little bit to smooth for me - but that is ok Eva is a strong-willed and tough heroine but also has a lot of compassion. Quinn is quite stoic but behind the facade he is the perfect guy.
I loved the story line: there was a lot of action, twists and turns and it was perfectly paced. the dialogues were excellent and funny.
this is a stand-alone but I really hope for another book in this series, as I would love to see some of the secondary characters and of course Eva and Quinn again
Disclaimer: I received a copy for an honest review
Eva Torres is very good at her job for High-Risk Security. After all she learned from Quinn Blackwood and he's the very best. Now he is the director of South American rescue and recovery as well as her boss. Her last mission went badly. She blew her cover and could only rescue one of the FARC hostages. Felix Bennett is a famous scientist. Eva is determined to redeem herself but things keep getting worse. Felix and his daughter are kidnapped and the police think she did it. She is arrested. Frustrated she escapes. Quinn decides to help her. Now they are on the run. Can they locate the hostages and save them? Can Eva and Quinn put their past behind them? This is an exhilarating adventure filled with danger and intrigue. Eva is an edgy character who's strong and determined. She can and does take care of business. Quinn is fierce warrior who's weakness is Eva. Their past romantic involvement and their current attraction kept me riveted. The author does a wonderful job keeping the reader off balance. The twists and turns never stop, but the author saved the biggest surprise for the end. I love that Quinn treats Eva as his equal. He may want to protect her but he let's her do it herself. I loved Risking It All For Her Boss. It left me wanting more.
This is my first book by Sharron McClellan and I half to say I'm impressed. This was a very enjoying book. From the action, suspense, and romance. From the start to the finish this book held my attention. I really couldn't put it down.
I really liked Eva. She was fearless and sometimes hardheaded, but that's what I liked about her. When she set her mind to do it, she did it no question asked (well maybe a few). I liked that she didn't let what Quinn's breaking them up affect her that much. She was still pretty professional.
Quinn, in my opinion was awesome.I liked that he still cared what happen to Eva, even after he broke up with her. He was so protective and you could still tell he loved her. But I wish he could of seen it sooner.
The only problem that I had with the book was that it need more romance in it. I'm all for a suspense book, but I also love romance.
I really can't wait for the next books in the series!
I received a copy of this book in place of an honest review.
Eva Torres loves her job as a HRS agent. She doesn't always do the things that she was trained to do. Sometimes she goes by her gut feeling. Maybe that is why she feel in love with her trainer Quinn Blackwood. They knew it was against the rules but they couldn't hide it any longer. That is until the day that Eva almost dies and Quinn knows he needs to leave her alone. He could never make her choose between her job of him.
This book is very action packed. You just never know what is going to happen next. I was guessing all the way til the end. I loved the missions that I got to experience and I could tell that Eva and Quinn needed to just give in and be with each other. No one is promised another day so take what you can and make the most of it.
I have to say that I loved the cover of this book and the author did a great job with her characters and writing her story. I never felt that I would fall asleep while reading this book.
This is a well written and well edited suspense/romance novel.
The characters were fully developed and their backgrounds were presented in a way that explained their actions. I was a little put off by the heroine's roommate being described in great detail at the beginning, but then she never made another appearance
The Hero and heroine are operatives for a high risk, private security company. Early in the heroine's career they had a love affair which was abruptly ended by the H. Now they are thrown together on a mission much to the h's dismay. I just didn't feel that the sexual tension that existed between them was enough, nor was there enough conflict between them.
The suspense plot was interesting and provided some unexpected twists and turns, plus there is a HEA.
This is a stand alone novel, but with secondary characters that could be given their own book in the future.
This is my first time reading a novel by this author and I gotta say it was GREAT! Right off the get go the action begins and it doesn't stop til the last chapter. Eva is a mercenary sent in to retrieve a bio scientist and winds up botching the removal and to top it off was saved by her ex lover and current boss while on that mission which just pisses her off all the way around, unfortunately for her or not(snicker) pain in the butt Quinn her boss is now her babysitter on her next mission to deliver the same scientist to his destination, what should have been a really easy mission turns into a a freaking adventure that leaves the reader glued to the book and wondering where the heck did the nuttier than a snickers bar daughter of the scientist Pauline come from. If you read a book make sure you read this. Thanks entanglement.
This was my first book by Sharron McClellan and I plan to read more.
Eva and Quinn have history (of course), so when Eva messes up guess who is there to help her...yup Quinn. Eva is strong-willed and very determined, which can sometimes lead to her making the wrong choice.
This book has a little bit of everything...I was frustrated (mostly with Quinn), I got a chuckle or 2, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. There was action from beginning to end and I can't wait for the next book in this series.
If your looking for a good storyline, good characters, twists and turns, than take a chance on Sharron McClellan, I think you'll really end up liking the book.
I got an arc from the publisher for an honest review.
Sharon McClellan writes a strong Romantic Suspense novel. I found it to be really well plotted and well written. I was particularly impressed by the fully faceted characters presented. The hero and heroine were engaging and the secondary characters interesting enough to make good candidates for additional books. I like a second chance at love story and this one combines with an intriguing premise and enough twists and turns to make the suspense aspect work. The settings were detailed, the dialogue rich, the sexual aspects sensual and passionate, and the pacing was fast but even. Ms. McClellan has created characters I wouldn't mind seeing more of and a world I would revisit. *I received my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
What a powerfully intense suspenseful story! This book grabbed me from the beginning. I always love a story with a very strong female character. One who can protect herself and the others around her. Eva was a powerhouse woman! I so want to be like her. She was strong and fierce and totally went on her gut instincts. Then there is Quinn. Wanting to protect Eva at all costs. I liked the fast pace action of the story and the twists and turns of the plot. The story kept me guessing until the end. I had an inkling of who would end up being behind the whole situation, but didn't want to believe it. I am just glad I was wrong in the other way I was thinking too. Overall I enjoyed this story and would love to read more by the author.
This is not your typical romance read - it's a page turner with lots of excitement and interesting unseen twists. From page one, I was immediately sucked into the action packed storyline. McClellan does a great job of building a heroine that totally combines the femme fatale with the psyche of your best friend; basically Jason Bourne meets Tomb Raider. The romance feels real, not cliché, and connected to the story without overdoing it. I dove in and had a hard time putting it down until I devoured every word. There were some great twists that I didn't see coming which is unusual for most novels I read. I highly recommend picking up this read if action adventure with a sultry sexy side is up your alley.
Eva is a an undercover agent for a private agency. She is good at what she does and wants the chance to prove herself. Until thoughts of her trainer/ex boyfriend get in the way. Quinn just can't help himself but interfere. Eva is still upset that Quinn left her, and Quinn can't help but beat himself up trying to determine why they should stay apart.
When they get put on the same job thinking it is going to be a easy babysitting job, boy do things just start to go wrong.
Great book. The author keeps you interested. It is suspenseful and you just can't quite tell what is going to happen next. You can tell both Eva and Quinn are trying to fight their attraction, but not quite succeeding.
Eva and Quinn both work for HRS and have a past. Quinn as her boss and lover ( who walked away from her) and has reinserted himself back into her assignments and Eva a head strong agent who has not forgiven him for placing the job above them. Now they need to put their pasts aside and work together to save lives. The characters are both have strong personalities ...strong attraction factors and a non stop storyline. This is not my typical romance novel but I have to say I really enjoyed it. Actually I will be checking out what else this author has to offer.
This is my first book by Sharron McClellan and I absolutely enjoyed it! I loved the mix of danger and love.
For Eva and Quinn things haven't worked out. They are both operatives from HRS and once upon a time were lovers until Quinn broke it off.
You have residual tension from the two, you learn Quinns side of things while Eva is off trying to save a man for her mission. You mix in daughters, villians, Mercs, and unsuspecting bad guys and you get a seriously good story!!! Pick this up when it comes out it was awesome!
I enjoyed this book. Eva and Quinn had a past that neither one of them got over. This book keeps you reading because you want to know what happens. It has twists and turns. I did not lose interest when reading this book. I did also enjoy the other characters.
I received this ARC in exchange for a honest review.
An incredible start that slid alarmingly into mediocrity, a shame, considering the potential of the story. Eva is a kickass heroine, and Quinn is plausible enough as a hero (and her boss) but the action and the love scenes lacked a heart-pounding intensity with which I've come to associate romantic suspense.
