A fun introduction to the Lego Movie characters and worlds! Beware of minor spoilers toward the end of the book; its probably better to read this after seeing the movie. There's even a short "behind the scenes" section at the end about how the Lego folks made the movie. I definitely want to see this one in the theater!
Want to know more about the Lego Movie? This book is a perfect combination of a movie summary and a character development book. It talks about the rules of the Society vs. the Master Builders. It's kind of like the Greasers and the Socs in the book "The Outsiders". It starts by explaining the rules in BricksBurg, the Setting of the movie. The protagonist is following all the rules and he's is so much fitting in that he's barely even noticed. "Follow President business's instructions"(Dolan 14). The book does a nice job of explaining what are the rules and how everyone is the same in a way kind of like in the book "The Giver".
The protagonist, AKA Emmett, is always happy and he always follows a guide named "How to Fit in, Have everyone Like You, and Always Be Happy"(Dolan 10). Emmett is very simple and has no one in his life. Every morning after greeting the wall, doors, ceilings, and floor of his home, Emmett grabs the book from the shelf and begins to follow his instructions for the day. First, make sure you breathe in and out, then greet the day, smile and say "Good Morning City". Then exercise, "How about Jumping Jacks"(Dolan 10) the shower shave brush your teeth, and comb your hair smooth. Always wear clothes that are appropriate four your job, watch TV with all the special people in your life but Emmett doesn't any. Greet your Neighbors and finally purchase and overpriced coffee for only $37.
WildStyle is another character of this book and she kind of saves Emmett's life. "WildStyle might look mean and moody, but beneath her black hood, WildStyle isn't quite as tough as you might think"(Dolan 12). WildStyle is a master builder that can use anything and she's part of the association of the master Builders that don't want to fit in the Society. For her, there are no rules and she doesn't let anyone tell her what to build. She met Emmett when trying to find the piece of resistance. The piece of resistance is the only thing that can block the President Business's super weapon which is the "Kragle". The "Kragle" is a glue stick that is going to glue everybody on Taco Tuesday.

President Business's number one henchman is Bad Cop. Bad Cop has two personalities, the good one and the bad one so he can be a good and bad cop at the same time. Bad Cop is always asked to do the dirty jobs for Lord Business. Right now he's asked to find Emmett AKA "The Special" and the piece of resistance."Discover the hiding place of every single underground Master Builder"(Dolan 21). Bad Cop also has other missions like finding and capturing all the Master Builders, and restore the law and order.
The book also talks about other worlds, like the Old West or Middle Zealand. WildStyle's boyfriend is Batman. Batman is dark and only works in black as a master builder. There are many other Master Builder like Superman, the has "out of this world, super-mini-figurine building powers"(Dolan 32). There is also Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Johnny Thunder, Green Ninja, William Shakespeare, The ForestMan, Cleopatra and many others.
Taco Tuesday is the day of free tacos for everyone but it is also the day where Lord Business is going to release the "Kragle". "'Hola I'll see you on Tuesday!'"(Dolan 15).

The last 2 pages of the book are all about behind the scenes of the story and how they came up with the characters. It also says what inspired them the look of the LEGO Movie?, and how did you choose the Lego locations. Let's start talking about what inspired them about the look of this movie. They were mostly inspired by stop motion videos created by "our fen community"(Dolan 62).The locations in the movies were based on the most famous Lego sets. BricksBurg was the where the movie started so it had to be in there, however Lord Business crumbled all the creativity of the movie so they made the opposite, Cloud Cuckoo Land.
The main characters were developed along with the story. As the story is all about building, the obvious was to give to the main character a building job. Emmet, was that of a construction worker. "WildStyle was then created to be everything that Emmet wasn't: bold, confident, slick, and streetwise, with mind-blowing building skills!"(Dolan 63). There's also Benny the completely mad spaceman who has a worn-away logo. MetalBeard, though, was the hardest to build with all the different parts of his body, like the shark on his hand and he was actually loading him up with every Lego Pirate icon they could think of. Then UniKitty was the easiest just put a bunch of colors and make it look like a rainbow.
Mostly all the stuff in the movie was based on real Lego sets. The easiest Lego vehicle was inspired from some Lego sets and it was the Cop Car. This book also gives a quiz about your building style, telling you if you are UniKitty, Batman, WildStyle, Emmet, Vitruvius, and Benny. It asks you questions such as, do you prefer to build with bright colors instead of muted ones? or could your builds be described as dark and edgy? or "Do your bilds contain natural shapes of features?"(Dolan 38). This book is all about the Lego movie, and here's its summary.
