Always a fan of romantic fiction, I've always been in love with the alpha-male. So in love, I've never been quite satisfied with the restrictions of series romance. I like to get into a guy's mind and have him do or say exactly what he's feeling at the moment, and sometimes I shock even myself! I consider my stories soft erotica; one man, one woman, heterosexual. But since abiding love is always the happy ending I'm looking for, my couples are always monogamous. My guy would never share his woman with anyone, and she is always enough to satisfy him. Since I believe that love starts with lust, my stories are always highly sexual, explicit in nature, and hopefully totally satisfying to my readers. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

4.5 Heart Warming Stars!!!

WHOA!!! I DID NOT EXPECT A BOOK LIKE THIS FROM LYNDA CHANCE!!!

Now if you're a hardcore Lynda Chance fan, like yours truly, you'll know what to expect when reading one of her books.
1. OTT Possessive alpha male
2. Beautiful and fragile heroine
3. Hot smoking sex scenes

This book was so different, don't get me wrong, it had all three of the things I pointed out above, although the sex was little toned down this time, which is to be expected since the heroine is a rape victim and this is NA people! He's not going to "eat her p#ssy like he's going to get quizzed on the sh#t!"

What made this book different to all the books I've read by Lynda Chance was the:

Our hero, Zachary McIntyre is a man who has been betrayed in the worst way. His wife cheated on him with the town drunk and all round no gooder, what makes it worse is that his wife was leaving town with this man but they never made it very far. Their journey was cut short when the car they were in crashed killing them both and the unborn child Zachary's wife was carrying.

Zachary is grieving and angry, he takes out his anger the family of the man who took everything away from him. Katie Turner is Hanna's best friend and she's always with Hanna, which means she spends a lot of time at Zachary's childhood home. He can't stand to look at her, he convinces himself he hates her. But he is also wildly attracted to her, and he acts like an ass because of it!

Katie is a fragile soul, she's been through hell and back. She has one secret she's been hiding from everyone in town, but when things start getting out of hand she has to come forward. Zachary is a constant pain in her ass, he's always got something mean to say to her and she knows he blames her and her family for what happened to him. She's surprised when Zach kisses her one day. She goes away to college and suddenly Zach pursues her. What's changed?? He's always hated her and now her wants her?

Zach struggles with the intense feelings he has for Katie, and Katie struggles to overcome what happened to her, if she can get over what happened maybe she can move on this her life...

Zach really surprised me, he was definitely alpha but he was also sweet, kind and understanding. He new when to back off, Katie needed a special kind of man and he was able to be that man!

If it isn't obvious then I'll tell it to you straight.
I LOVEEEED IT

The amount of toxic shit I’ll willingly swallow for this woman…

Let me get this straight.

We got the story of a very tormented H who hates a family and a girl specifically but at the same time lusts after her and feels like she’s owed to him after what he went through.

We’ve got a traumatised h after being raped.

And we’ve got years and years of the H trying to pursue a relationship with her in the most twisted of ways and the most sick reasoning in his head.

When he touches her, after she’ll say NO, petrified and shaking, he takes her shivering as if it’s caused because she wants him? COME ON MAN.

But I’ll gobble this shit and ask for seconds.

Zach is my kind of hero. He’s possessive and aggressive and ready to do anything necessary to get the woman we wants. I loved how he backs Katie into a corner. He’s completely ruthless.

But then he gets new information. And frankly? This is the reason why I avoid books where the h is a rape victim. If the H carries through with his nefarious plans, LIKE I WANT HIM TO, he’s kinda irredeemable. And if he doesn’t, I’m left a little deflated. But, I will say that, given the circumstances, I liked how LC played it. Zach is swoony. Does all the right stuff and still manages to maintain his his bossy alpha persona.

Bottom line? I liked it a lot! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️

- no cheating or sharing
- no OW drama
- no dubcon (skates line)
- h (23) was raped in HS and had a sexual relationship with boyfriend before that, but nothing since
- H (33) is a widower and a manwhore, but his sexual past isn’t really dwelled upon
- the h’s assault is referred to in conversation but no flashbacks or details of any significance

I am so mad at this book! SO SO MAD! Let me start off with telling you that I loved Josh and Hannah's story (Redwood #1).
I was really expecting something equally as good if not better.
What I FELT I got was 50% of the same stuff in book one, but much more irritatingly told.
I HATED that Katie HATED Zach so much and pretty much vis-versa. It ruined it for me. I get being confused about each other and then hating each other because of the confusion or past...but neither of them moved on. It was just ridiculous and not what I expected out of a Lynda Chance at all. Zach wasn't even a good alpha. I wanted to punch Katie and then punch Zach. I mean, I had to put it down SEVERAL times just to get through all the irritating jibber-jabber and stupid back and forth.
2 stars for being Lynda Chance.....0 for the romance, 0 for the steam/sex and a big fat 0 for the story.
Boo! Now, this is just my own personal opinion, don't go getting your panties in a twist if you loved it. I'm happy you could find something decent in this read, because I just couldn't. Well aside from the cover.
Will this affect me from future reads from Lynda or Redwood? HECK NO! That's why I'm so mad! It just wasn't even in her normal ball field of the excellence that I find in Lynda.
Oh well! We can't win 'em all, can we Peyton?

There are boundaries that it’s better not cross.
This is a typical story where the hero blackmails the hero to have sex with him to save their parents business, but sadly there’s more.
- the hero’s wife run away with the heroine’s uncle and they died in a car accident. She was pregnant (but are we sure that it was the hero’s???)
- the hero is 10 y older that the heroine. They’ve known forever and she’s his sister’s bff.
- the hero hold a grudge to all the family of the heroine, which seems to be a stupid thing since the uncle’s son was also abused by his father and that man was an awful person. That says much about the kind of woman the hero’s first wife was.
I hope no one hates me because of whatever one of my many uncles did - uncles that I meet only at funerals or marriages when I decide to attend- it would be stupid and unfair and I wouldn’t mind telling them.
- the hero has noticed the heroine for some months. He apparently started seeing her as a woman some months before his dear wife died even if the heroine is only 18. Now that he’s alone and she’s grown up he would like to have a taste of her that he justifies as his due, since her family took something of his.
Medieval.
- he corners her and kisses her in anger scaring her. The poor girl is only 18- but sadly there’s more.
- time goes by and he tries again to approach her, realizing that he was wrong to assault her as he did. Meh.
- does he apologizes? Does he try to explain? Does he asks her to spend some time with her- only for the pleasure of his company? No! He tells her he wants her and he will have her, frightening her again and again.
He sends her flowers each month for three years, then when her parents risk losing their business he offers a loan- that obviously he will threaten to call off after some time.
He blackmails the heroine to have sex with him and makes her sign a contract where she’s his property for as long as he wants. Basically his sexual slave. This was very disturbing and disgusting even without the elephant in the room because he treats her abominably, groping her and telling her she has to submit to him in bed.
Ok, I really hated him then but what was actually the worst thing was that the heroine was raped in high school, and is still traumatized.
The hero doesn’t know it thank god but this makes the situation even more painful and disgusting.
They leave for a holiday together and thank god they won’t have sex at all, the hero has already regretted his behavior and doesn’t know how to get out of the big mess he made, and when he understands that the heroine is not playing difficult to get but is actually traumatized, he is all remorseful and regretful and immediately break their agreement, assuring her that he would extend her parents loan without any conditions.
I like that he is the first to say ILY and that he eventually lets her go, leaving her free to decide if she wants to see him again.
Of course there is a HEA, but I don’t know if I liked the book.
I rated 3 stars because it’s an angst fest like no other and I really had to stop several times because my pressure was skyrocketing.
The rape is not described in details but the girl was clearly severely traumatized and no one proposed her to see a therapist. Or to have counseling. She was still closed and afraid to even date anyone.
I understand that the hero didn’t know what happened to her but it was even more distressing to see him blackmailing her for sex after what she went through.
About celibacy. They had a 10 years gap so he got married when she was a teenager and she also had a boyfriend before him. Thank god his obsession began when she was 18 and he was widowed.
- after he kissed her the first time she has been celibate while we don’t known anything certain about him. There’s another 5 years before they are together, and nothing is said about him. But since it wasn’t mentioned I wasn’t disturbed.

This book was really frustrating for me.

The majority of the book focuses on Zach and Katie's very weird and sporadic encounters throughout a 5 year span. It was an "I hate you" and vice versa game that was frustrating and unnecessary.

Katie frustrated the shit out of me. I didn't like her AT ALL. Rape is a traumatic experience but, if you receive the proper help you will overcome it. Frankly, she was obdurate and refused to get help, she allowed the rape to just completely define who she was and basically blamed Zach for everything wrong in her life. And then at the end Zach says the three magic words and suddenly Katie does a one eighty and wants to be with Zach? What? Not only that, but how did she honestly expect this guy to leave her 'alone' if she never told him what had happened to her? She just kept it all bottled up inside and when he was a dick and pushed her buttons on an issue she had, it was his fault for being a dick and for not knowing when, SHE HADN'T TOLD HIM.

And Zach was can't be considered an alpha, just a douche. He felt that Katie was 'owed' to him because of what her uncle had done to him. I'm sorry but we don't live in a Western movie, like please move into the 21st century.

I honestly felt zero chemistry in this book. There was only sex like once and it was rushed. It was just a serious case of lust but I didn't really think that Katie was that amazing for Zach to be so obsessed with her, like there are hundreds of beautiful girls around the world.

This book sadly didn't cut it for me. Sorry for everyone who loved it.

Everyone is worried about mentioning the Turners to Zach. Especially where Josh and Hannah are concerned. Zach has a score to settle with the Turners and he wants Katie as payment. He doesn't know Katie's dark secret and he doesn't' realize how strong the connection between them is.

Zach does some things in this book that are hard to take. After knowing what Katie has gone through I really felt sympathetic towards her when he was treating her badly. I didn't think he was going to be a redeemable character but once he learned her secret he really pulled himself together. I ended up loving them both in he end.

I enjoyed this book even more then the first installment. The only thing that I would like to have seen is the ending a little longer. Everyone didn't get resolved until the very end and that was unfortunate because I really liked Zach and Katie together when they weren't fighting.

The next book in the series is Ethan and Ava's story. I can't wait to read it and follow what happens to this group. This is a fantastic read and if you like alpha males then this is definitely a series you will enjoy.Because of Katie's fragile state Zach was a little less controlling then Josh was but I like Zach even more.

4/5 ⭐️This was such a sweet and slow burn romance with a possessive and persistent hero. I liked how relentless Zach was in his pursuit of Katie. He literally wouldn’t take no for an answer and kept trying to get her attention for years. I just love an obsessed and persistent hero 🥰.

I loved both Zach and Katie. My heart broke for Katie and what she went through. She struggled immensely in the aftermath of her trauma. I did wish she would have opened up to Zach sooner, but I understood why she didn’t want to.

I also loved how possessive and jealous Zach was!! He was such a bulldozer and I loved him for that! Lol

Overall, this was a fun read. If you enjoy OTT jealous and possessive heroes like I do, then give this one a try! 👍🏼❤️.

I loved the first one in this series but Zach and at times even Katie just ruined the story for me. Zach was for me one big emotional mess who didn't know what he wanted and when he finally figured it out, he still managed to screw it all up. I understood why Katie was how she was but the author should have made her heal sooner for the story to work better.

For me it was simply one big mess. :/ Hope for someone else it works out better.

I continue to love this author. This one was a bit different since it's a new adult title. That genre is not typically my favorite but this one was nice. It took place over about six years. The hero had the hots for her and chased her off and on for years. But because he didn't know she was a rape survivor he was at a disadvantage because he couldn't understand why she wouldn't go out with him even though he could tell she liked him. He did some really sweet things and some pretty shitty things o to get her attention over the years. Loved the angst. The hero wasn't quite so crazy assed stalkerish as LC's heroes usually are but that worked well in this genre.

A nice read but I still perfer the adult stuff.

Rating:** 3 stars**

I am a sucker for Lynda chance books with ott alpha males and the leads steaming chemistry. Unfortunately this one did not work it's charm on me.

This was a really frustrating read. I like stories where MLs are determined in their pursuit of the FL and are sure of their feelings unlike MLs who like teenage boys are commitment phobics, trying to fight their feelings so their precious freedom is within reach and variety is still available to them. Besides if the FL is not shown to be attracted to the ML it's nothing but harassment and coercion which got multiplied badly with Katie's experience Zach instead of coming across as a confident ML pursing Katie came across as a lovelorn pathetic man and with Katie's vague feelings switching between resentment, fear and excitement made him look more like an obsessed creepy stalker.

My patience wore even more thin with Katie for not confiding in Zach. On one end she keeps reiterating throughout the book how much she trusts him but at the same time she kept mum for years with Zach continuously making a fool of himself over her. It's like she hated it but did not want to let go of him at the same time knowing how much he was attracted to her.

Towards the ending of the book it got really sweet with Zach realizing his mistake, being understanding and repenting and Katie making an effort to move on bravely but unfortunately the charm of the leads was pretty much over for me by then. Still added half that star for the sigh worthy epilogue.

P.S I don't know whether Lynda is on a hiatus or has left writing entirely which I hope is not the case. Hopefully she puts pen to paper again.

This book has pretty controversial rating as it deals with heroine, who was a rape victim. The Hero is a regular LC's jerk, who doesn't stop at a blackmail to get the girl... It's a bit thin ice in this case, for many people sensitive topic, and H's assholeness definitely doesn't help.

Thankfully he doesn't force her to sleep with him during this blackmail, and when he finds out the truth he shows remorse.

I personally didn't mind the TW as much, but honestly didn't enjoy it like other books from Lynda. The angst is perfect, though 😊

No OW/OM drama.

All I know is that I want you and I'll take you any way I can get you. I've wanted you a long, long time." Katie was held speechless in his grasp, breathing hard. She was silent as he continued, "But, Katie. . . It's a fact that your family took my wife and child from me." His eyes went to her lips and he expelled a breath. "I believe I'm owed something in return." He lifted her chin another notch as his eyes lifted back to hers and he studied her closely. "And you're what I want."

Full review to come...

I love Lynda Chance and was excited to see this one release. Overall, I liked the story, I liked the characters, and it kept me reading from beginning to end. Parts of the story were sexy, there was a lot of sexual tension throughout which lead to a sense of anticipation for almost the entire book BUT...there wasn't a lot of actual sex. Now, there were definitely reasons related to the story why there wasn't a lot BUT...Lynda Chance does HOT, ANGRY, ALPHA sex so well that the fact that this book was tension-high but sex-lite was a little disappointing. I missed the sex!

At the end of An Eye for an Eye there is a sneak peak of the next book in the series which will be Ethan and Ava's story. Now I normally don't read much NA, especially stories where the characters are in high school, but this series is a must read for me. And can I just tell you... this next book looks like it could be freaking HOT! Loved the teaser. Can't wait. Bring it on.

I liked Josh & Hannah's book a lot, but this one?

description

It would have been bette if Katie had said this to Zach

Ya. That would have boosted my star rating quite a bit!

But it wasn't all bad. If you mentally add a chapter where Katie punches Zach in the throat two or three times then the rating skyrockets to 5 stars.

Ehhhh...this is one of those books where you dislike both protags, the storyline angers you, the hero's actions creeps you out but you continue to read because in the back of your mind you think...it can't get any worse, right?

Wrong.

Imagine if you will, a hero who essentially hates/lusts after a woman whose uncle sleep with his wife. He blames her and her entire family for his wife's infidelity. BUT he lust so hard after this woman (whom is about 10 yrs younger then him and light years younger emotionally)that he stalks her, scares her, and threatens her. His lust knows no boundaries. He is filled with lust. Lust and hate. Hate and lust. I know this because it's told to me every 5th page.

He eventually uses his cha CHING mojo to force her into a sexual contract to save the family farm. Of course, he KNOWS he can't legally do this. His lawyers who drew up the contract should know he can't legally do this but this is romancelandia and anything is possible here.

The heroine cries the whole time and he can't figure out why the hell she doesn't want him. I mean COME ON...he's such a prince. Plus, there was no logial reason why she didn't just tell someone, anyone, about this guy's douchey behavior.

Finally everything comes out and hero realizes that a trauma from her past pretty much solidifies he will never, ever, EVER get with her. Not with everything he has done to her

However, never underestimate the power of an well planned, "Oops, my bad and I love you."

The end.

I gave it 2 stars because hero did realize the whole time what an arse he was being even if he didn't do anything about it for a long time and the fact I finished it.

I enjoyed the first book but I didn`t like this one.

First of all, the plot is very, very weak.

Zach wants revenge because his ex wife cheated on him with Katie`s uncle. Really? Uncle? She must pay because of her uncle? WEAK!
First, Zach tries to seduce Katie but because she was raped when she was 17 (not a spoiler) and is traumatized, she keeps saying no. And Zach can`t take a no for an answer. He keeps sending flowers EVERY month for a year! Really? WEAK!

All we see is Zach obsessed with Katie and Katie saying no to him! Then, almost in the end of the book, Zach decides he`ll have Katie for himself one way or another. So, he blackmails her and she is forced to sign a contract that says she`ll be with him for FIVE years. OMG, how is that believable? Or even legal? WEAK plot! But wait, Zach is a gentleman. Although he forced her to sign the contract and leave her life behind her just to be with him, he won`t force her to have sex with him. WOW What a sweetheart he is!

One day Zach finds out about Katie`s past and is full of remorse. He decides he`ll let her go and out of nothing, Katie, who so far was so traumatized and thinking she would never have sex again, is all of a sudden in love with Zach, willing to forgive him and have sex again.

Weak!

What a disappointing book and I was so looking forward to it after reading Josh & Hannah's book which I liked.

Majority of this book is spent highlighting interactions between Zack and Katie from school to college and the minuscule encounters they had together did not lead to anything romantic.

Katie was just so frustratingly stubborn for me. Yes the rape is traumatic but Katie did not seek help & she refused to move on with her life. She used the rape as a crutch that defined her life and that was frustrating for me to read.

Zach was no alpha male that I have come to expect from a Lynda Chance book.

Sadly I DNF this book, it is just too frustrating for me.

I've read ten books by Ms. Chance so far, so you might safely assume I'm a fan, right? Well, I really can't say it - and I'm as confused as a chameleon in a bag of Skittles. Her books have earned the whole gamut of ratings from me, skyrocketing to 5 stars, plummeting to 1 star, and fluttering in between. Sadly, An Eye for an Eye: Zach & Katie's Story was a huge disappointment and fell into the less-than-stellar group.

Well, as much as I enjoyed it, this book is not really my favorite.

Mostly because I want to read a proper apology from the Hero and even though I feel bd for the heroine because she's trapped in a situation that she had nothing to do with, I kind of think that she's annoying. She keeps telling the Hero that she 'hates' him even though there are vulnerable moments and she could just admit that she's in love with him.

But no, she just hurting his feeling and I don't really like it.

That's why I give this book 3.5 stars. But overall I liked the whole thing going on in this book. Looking forward to read another book from Lynda Chance.

Zach & Katie

I was so confused... I think I only really caught up at the end of the book but even then I was like,

I never really got to know Zach... I mean really, who is he?
I don't feel that I was given the opportunity to get to know or understand either of the two.

Especially the whole captive in the dark part, like WTF?

So I can't review this really because I am still lost. I'm just happy they're happy.

Can I have Ethan and Ava's story now? Its long overdue!

Zach + Katie

Zach was an absolute asshole in Josh and Hannah’s book, so I knew in my heart that I would be positively in love with him. Katie is a survivor and Zach did not realize he needed to handle her with care but once he did ... he went from asshole to awesome. Zach definitely crossed lines, yet I could never stay to mad at him. I felt like my feelings fluctuated with Katie’s. I find that I definitely have an odd love for blackmail romances.

“She wasn't ready for a sexual relationship with him. She wanted to be ready, she really did. But the choice had been stripped from her and now all she could do was try to protect herself from what he wanted from her.
She didn't think he'd give up easily.
And as he studied her now and pressed a soft, closing kiss on her forehead, she was astonished to realize that the prayer she said deep down in her subconscious was that he wouldn't give up easily.”_Katie’s thoughts

Well the prayer was answered, just not in a conventional way.

“I'm going to have to come to the understanding that it's my due in life to suffer . . . suffer without you. I want to kill the person who hurt you, yet I've probably hurt you more. There's no excuse for the way I've treated you, but if it makes you feel any better, God is punishing me for it now. I want to keep you forever, but I have to take you home tomorrow. I'm sorry for the way I've treated you. I know you probably can't believe that, but it's true. Katie, please believe me when I tell you that I never knew . . . what happened to you. I've been rough on you, and there's no justification for that, even if you hadn't gone through . . . what you went through." _Zach to Katie

The realization and him admitting he was wrong made me love him more. The way Katie handled it after he apologized (though he could have groveled more) made me love her.

SOME SPOILERS INCLUDED IN THIS REVIEW!!!

I have to start by saying that I am a fan of Lynda Chance's work. Some of my favorites are Marco's Redemption and The Mistress Mistake. When I heard she was writing a NA series "Redwood Falls" I was excited. I enjoyed the first book in the series Josh and Hannah and although it didn't have much of her trademark steaminess, I still enjoyed the plotline and characters.

Unfortunately, Eye for an Eye - Zach and Katie's story, missed the mark for me. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and although Ms. Chance is known for her aggressive, alpha males, Zach just didn't do it for me and Katie REALLY didn't do it for me. This book was filled with so much angst it was overwhelming and overpowering. Their were very little tender moments between the H/h and this book spanned like 5 years of time, all of which were the characters barely seeing eachother and having strange encounters. THEN...at the very end of the book, Zach mutters those 3 little words and Katie changes her whole outlook on life. She now feels comfortable with Zach touching her and wanting to be with her, when just weeks prior it literally made her sick(Katie had something VERY traumatic happen to her in high school and she struggles with it throughout the entire book)! The end was rushed BIG TIME. I will say the epilogue was sweet and Zach and Katie did get their HEA.

Ethan and Ava (Josh and Hannah's friends) are up next, which I will probably read because I did enjoy them in the first book.

These books are atypical LC books, in my opinion, but even so, I liked the flow of the story. I was glad, that those godawful, distracting flashbacks were not used in this book. In fact it probably makes a book more difficult to write in a time-line that crosses over with another book, but the way this story was constructed worked for me. What did not work for me were Katie's repeating thoughts, every day we got more of the same, but I felt sorry for what she had suffered. I found it incredible that Zach never learnt what happened and years passed by like that. This was a little odd, but I just went with it. Zach himself, was a lovely tortured soul, and when Katie was not messing him up, he managed to do a pretty good job of it all on his own. When the light bulb came on, so to speak, his waking up and realization about his actions, was very well done, I thought. Of course, the book lost all interest at that point because Katie and a guilty Zach made for a simpering couple and that was that. So, I enjoyed this read but I would not recommend it.

LOVE AND REVENGE

Once again this author has surprised me with her latest story. With a departure from her normal style she gives us an angst ridden tale of two deeply damaged characters, who have to fight their way through the challenges that have come their way.
Katie has always had a thing for Zach, she hadn't gone unnoticed by him either, but when a member of her family is the cause of his heartache she becomes the target of his revenge. But they say there's a fine line between love and hate, as we discover in this story. I always enjoy LC's books and this was no different. I can see some reviewers were not so keen. But I liked it. I only had one quibble, I didn't think it was believable that Zach had not heard what had happened to Katie as it was public knowledge in their small town. That aside I loved the teaser for Ava and Ethan's book, which I'm really looking forward to.

I never intended to read this book. Because honestly the blurb was not that tempting to me. But after reading Resisting the Rancher , I wanted to try this one. And it turned out that this one was not bad itself.
There is lot of separations and time apart between the MCs. Lot of resistance on the h's part. But I liked how adamant the H was. Though he was a complete a****** to her in the beginning, he later realized his mistake. I didn't hated him like many people did. I think in a way he is justified in his action. And I could also sympathize with the h. Overall both were nice.
