Rachel West loves the water. It feels like she's been surfing since before she could walk. But when a horrific accident ruins her love for the sport, she's not sure how to stay afloat.
Walker Gracin is a southern guy on vacation for the summer when he meets Rachel, a pretty, broken ex-surfer, and he's determined to show her she can have a life free from the sea.
But when Rachel's faced with an impossible choice -- get back on her surfboard or give up her dreams forever -- she risks losing everything she and Walker worked to build.
Can Rachel overcome everything that wants to keep her down or will she sink under the pressure?
Carly Syms Hill is a 30-something-year-old graduate of Wisconsin and Northwestern. She was born in New Jersey where she wrote her first book in the second grade and fell in love with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars a few years later, sparking her love affair with football that led to CINDERELLA IN CLEATS.
Carly lives in the Phoenix suburbs, and spends her days hanging out with her husband and stepdaughter, playing with her zoo of animals (3 dogs, 1 cat, 1 hamster, and 2 fish!), writing, working in marketing, exploring the desert and cheering on her favorite sports teams!
Rachel West was a Surf Queen. That was before her best friend Alex was taken from her by the same ocean she has grown to love. Now, a shell of what she used to be, she is afraid of being in the water, let alone getting on a board.
I love the Cinderella series by Carlie Syms. It has the perfect blend of romance and sports that any girly tomboy would love. Cinderella in Surf has that and more. It deals with death and loss and acceptance and living despite of losing someone.
I didn't like it... I would love to but I didn't. Never felt connected to them and their relation lacked spark. I think the characters were plain even though Rachel grew up trough the story and I kind of related to her struggling... But I didn't like Walker, I think no decent guy would ditch you for the person who keeps trying to put you down and hurt you... Ever! So, no. I didn't enjoy this story much :/
Although i really liked the story, I missed some depth in the relationship & in the characters. So i missed the connection to the main characters, and I couldn't really get into the story all that well. I wished there was more surf in it, and some of the competition aspects weren't as accurate as they could've been. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read :)
I love this story. It's heartbreaking but at the same time it allows the reader to get a new perspective on the things that we're afraid of (like trying something new, or getting back to something that we used to do). Overall it just builds up a confidence in the reader which I definitely enjoyed.
I really liked the concept, but I felt the characters fell flat and were disconnected. It would have been much stronger if they had been friends and not love interests. He bugged the crap out of me and wasn't much of a friend in my book. It made her look really codependent in my mind.
