There are skeletons in every closet. Some stay quiet—and some rule your soul with an iron fist.

Ezra is ruled by the ghosts of his past—and needled by the guilt they create. Not only does he have to manage his own guilt—his friends are forced to bear the weight as well. He lives in limbo, never dreaming of anything that lies beyond the grave.
In his mind, he’s a murderer, pure and simple.

Hide and seek is Aysa’s game. She begs for small spaces and empty places. But, she secretly desires so much more.
When they find each other, a hope for something new is sprung.
But Ezra’s skeletons are out for blood.

“I hide shock well. I’m a pro at hiding. I have no idea that whatever he had to tell me would be so personal—so heartbreaking. But, I quickly remembered that heartbreak was all around him every time he turned around. He needs no more empathy or sympathy in his life. He craves someone to give him a different take on a tired situation.
And different is practically my middle name.”

Lila Felix

Lila Felix is full of antics and stories. She refused to go to Kindergarten after the teacher made her take a nap on the first day of school. She staged her first protest in middle school. She almost flunked out of her first semester at Pepperdine University because she was enthralled with their library and frequently was locked in. Now her husband and three children have to put up with her rebel nature in Louisiana where her days are filled with cypress trees, crawfish, and of course her books and writing. She writes about the ordinary people who fall extraordinarily in wild, true love.

WOW!!! Just... WOW!!!!
I can't even speak I am all over the place...

FULL REVIEW:
I'm not even sure I know how to begin this.
I knew it would be a great book, I mean, it is Lila Felix...
But, did I know it would captivate my heart to no abounds?
Did I know that it would physically cause my chest to ache, worrying about how this was going to end?
The answer is no...Nope...I had no idea I would be so profoundly affected by Sparrows for Free.
Lila Felix writes the most intense, dynamic characters. They are maybe some of the most real characters I have come across...people you can identify with, sympathize with, and just truly connect with.
The depth that these two characters, Ezra and Aysa, bring to this story provides for a powerful, explosive tale. The way we see them in the beginning captures your heart, you ache to know their pain, yet rejoice when you see these two begin to start their journey of growth.
But, it is not all happiness in Sparrows for Free. Secrets and betrayal land in their laps and it may be something that they can't recover from.
My soul bleeds for this pair. As I reached the end of the book, I almost threw my phone across the room because this tale wasn't wrapped up in one book...
Noooo....I was dropped off a cliff, high on emotions...Screaming.....I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NOW!!!!
*sighs*
Sparrows for Free is an apic read. I couldn't put it down and finished in one sitting. Only downside to that is....I have to wait...*taps fingers*...patiently...*taps fingers again*...for book 2...
I definite MUST READ!!

This book was one thing for me...PAINFUL which is unusual cos i love this troupe...it never gets cliche for me...i see a broken guy and girl book and instant book magnet! but what went wrong here???? A whole list of things!
1) I could not connect to the characters! i tried with the h and felt sad for her but the H...not at all... He jst felt fake to me. It felt like they were describing pain that they werent feeling like it was someone elses pain...I could not feel anything not even remorse for them.
2)The characters were confused all the time! They kept dillydaling in their thoughts and actions.
3) I jst couldnt get behind this Mara character! At first the H was all the girl was self absorbed and didnt even care about their baby...next thing she was a saint and cared about people around her and was the good girl kind of beautiful...the next thing again shes a bitch....make up ur mind pls!
4) The Gray girl...totally loved her at first but later....nah not at all.
5) The constant comparision the H did btw the h and Mara and Gray!!!! Uuuggghhhh

I just happen to be one of these people who gets their feelings hurt all the time. I don’t plan to get hurt or to be so sensitive. It’s just who I am.
***

An absolute heart breaking tale of two broken souls wandering aimlessly through life, just existing. Both have their reasons for hiding away from the world. But both find a reason to fight for something more...in each other. Up until they meet, their lives have clearly been just existing and not living. Now that their eyes have been peeled opened a bit, it’s time for them to start fighting for something worthwhile. Something like love. But the past has a way of catching up to you and pulling you back in. They must figure out if what is important and what is better left in the past.

***
I hate that moment the most.
The moment you find out you don’t even register as a blip on someone else’s radar.

***

My heart. My poor precious heart was sent through the wringer in this one. Felix gives us these two characters that are both hurting so much, for different reasons, but have so much love buried deep within themselves just waiting to be set free. In a way, they both don't feel worthy or giving or receiving it. It is something they must work on themselves. And it definitely isn't something that happens overnight. In fact, it is more like 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

***
Something in me needs something in you. I don’t know how and I don’t know why, but it’s just undeniable. Can we just—can we start over? I’m not ready to give you up before I really even had a fighting chance.”
***

I am not sure who had the saddest story. Aysa or Ezra? Both are tortured from the events of their past. But even so, they really do seem to want more out of life than the way they've been living lately. Now I am not saying that the whole book was depressing because it wasn't. There was sadness but there was also good times. Funny times. I think what made it so very heartbreaking was near the end. You know it is coming, yet you don't have the ability to make it stop, no matter how hard you yell at your ereader. But the story? It is worth the read. I can absolutely promise you that.

***
“No, I’m sorry because I’m about to kiss you. I shouldn’t. I should stay away from you. I’m just gonna break you. I’m gonna ruin you and maybe ruin us both.”
“Maybe I want to be ruined.”

***

There was some romance. Not as much as Felix usually dishes out. But there was enough to make my heart happy. It was sweet and real. Think classic beginnings of first love. The butterflies in the tummy...the pounding of your heart...the constant linger thoughts of your love interest. Definitely done to perfection, that is for sure. Felix has a God given ability to make something so simple so very hot! And in a clean romantic sort of way. I just love that about her.

So if you enjoy a story that is layered with emotion and has an amazing story line, then this is the read for you. It was so very surprising and absolutely endearing. Especially the end. It keeps you on your toes and has you eagerly anticipating the next book in the series, DOVES FOR SALE.

How freaking amazing is Lila? Totally amazing! I just finished reading Sparrows For Free, and it was AMAZING! It had moments where you just laugh out loud, it will have you yelling and shaking your head at your eReader. The characters are so fresh, real and raw. You'll just want to run up to Aysa and give her a big hug. You'll want to just give Ezra a big hug, while at the same time you'll want to slap some since into him. Oh and Gray - OMG, I won't get started on her, I so do not want to spoil anything. Overall I've just got to say this is a great story, it'll give you laughter and tears. These characters are so loveable! I have read nearly every one of Lila's books. I think there is only 3 I have yet to read, and I just know I will love them too. I've loved all of her books, Lila is such an amazing author. She brings real feelings to her stories. They are so full of realness (is that a word?) They are powerful, full of emotion you can't help but love or hate the characters.

Have you ever been simply blown away by a connection you had with a character? Not your typical, “Oh yeah, we have all experienced a little of that.” I mean a stronger connection. I remember thinking, “Has Lila Felix been in my head all this time?” From the beginning, this grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. It just wouldn’t. I went through so many emotions.
Before they meet, Aysa and Ezra are pretty much in the fight for their lives. They have to heal from their own wounds, inflicted by unfortunate circumstances, before they even have a chance at being together. That journey is not full of rainbows and sunshine. But love is all about taking risks. Going through hurts as well as joys. It is about taking your needs out of the equation and putting the other person’s needs in their place. It’s about letting people “in”. It’s about growing in yourself, so that you can be that strong tower for someone else. That definitely happens here.
It was such a breath of fresh air to see that these characters were all so real and flawed. I was so happy to see that this was not an immediate love relationship. They both struggled with themselves while trying to figure out each other. You literally watched this relationship start on very insecure ground and eventually grow into something you were really rooting for. I honestly felt a weight on my chest and my heart squeezing the entire time. I couldn’t read it fast enough.
I absolutely loved watching the growth Aysa was able to experience. She is such a symbol of strength and hope for any girl out there with self-esteem issues. She is a fighter. I felt every single emotion she went through. Every single one. I cried with her. I laughed with her. I definitely swooned with her. We certainly can’t forget the anger and betrayal.
My heart has definitely taken a beating. It is no longer in my body. It lays on the floor smashed to smithereens. I don’t know what to expect now. What a book hangover! I absolutely love them together. I have had so many tears and deep breaths but also so many giggles and sweet sighs. This is so brilliant and smart and honest and raw. Lila continues to leave me breathless and in awe. Her books just keep getting better and better. I can’t wait to watch this bird soar.

Oh so addictive! Lila Felix knows how to capture an audience. I can always get lost in her stories without even knowing it. This one was no exception.

It follows Aysa, a tiny girl in big world who thinks she's invisible and is somewhat damaged. When she meets Ezra, an equally damaged guy but for different reasons, both their worlds take sudden turn and everything will never be the same.

I love Aysa and her quirks. I can relate to her feelings of loneliness, invisibility and rejection. She's written in a way you want to just give her a huge hug and tell her it will all be okay. Ezra's self loathing makes me want to shake the guy, but I can understand why he thinks the way he does. The interactions between these two and their circle of unique friends keep the story rolling, adds mystery and some questionable connections that made me want to keep o n reading to see what happens. I loved the idea of Aysa and Ezra and everything they go through made me cheer them on as a couple, even though everything and everyone seems against this fate, even themselves!

I can't wait to see what happens to these characters in the next book, I already bought it. I love Lila Felix's style of writing, it's very emotional, addictive and anyone can relate to the characters. Highly recommend any of her books.

Title: Sparrows For Free
Author: Lila Felix
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Format: Ebook
Pages: 316
Rating: 5
Heat: 1

Thoughts: A beautiful story of finding your backbone and learning to let go. Of course since it's the first there is no HEA yet which means I have yet another book added to my TBR list LOL. This is a totally clean, slowly fall in love story between two people with different issues that have shaped them into the people they are today. I really liked the characters, their real life problems were so easy to relate to and understand. Aysa loves to hide but longs to be seen and goes out of her way to please everyone. I totally used to be like that, so she really spoke to me. Ezra has been stagnant ever since the accident and the guilt that he carries around prevents him from living or moving on. When the two collide they each get a new lease on life but will it last? Now I need the next book to find out lol.

ARC review

This is a beautifully written book that really showcases how much Lila has grown into her writing. Even though I've been a long-time fan, and have loved everything she has written, there is just a depth of these characters that I cannot explain.

Lila has always had a flare for character development, always. You become close to her characters; their stories become yours. You know them, and you can usually even relate to them on some level.

In Sparrows for Free you fall in love, get your heart broken, and then ride a roller coaster right off a cliff as you wait for what will happen next.

How do you get your heart broken? You meet Aysa and Ezra. Two people you want to hug and do all you can to help them repair their wounded souls.

What I like about this book: The story doesn't take place in a land far away. There is no fairy tale romance. This is just a story of broken people, going through the world trying to make sense of their lives and figure out what it means to actually live.

You know how I love it when an author makes me feel emotions, and emotions were definitely felt. I was surprised, sad, happy, angry and a list of other Dwarves. Most importantly, to me, I felt like I was having a conversation with a good friend. By the time I reached the end, I felt like Aysa and I had sat down with a cup of coffee and she had just filled me in on the last few months of her life. I love it when I can say that about a book.

What I didn't like about this book: I didn't like being left wanting more, but one really can't complain about that - it is what I don't like about most books.

Would I recommend this book: Definitely.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Have you ever played that game with a balloon? You know, the one where you smack it up into the air and then when it comes down you pop it back up? That’s the kind of feeling this book has. Every time the negative stuff these poor characters have gone through or feel start to drag you down, they manage to do something to pop you right back up in the air.

Most of the book is done in a point of view passed back and forth between our two main characters Ezra and Aysa, giving us the story from both angles. Now a tiny little tidbit is seen from Ezra’s best friend Gray, and it packs quite a crazy punch. I had guessed how that part of the story was going to go while discussing bits and pieces with my wife after she read it but before I did. And even though I was right, I was sooo wrong at the same time!

Just to be fair, and this way you can’t say I didn’t warn you. The ending is a “to be continued” moment, so haters of cliff-hangers beware! Personally I suggest you read it, and then take a moment to relax, because I believe the train to crazy-town is going to go off the rails in book two!

Everything that Lila writes is Amazing! All the chataracters in Sparrows for free we're so awesome and I wanted to literally hug them!! I really wish the book never had to end and I can just keep reading about Ezra and Aysa!! I just loved them!!! What I love about Lila's books is that I can litteraly feel the emotion in her words. A story is just a story if not given emotion. And I can literally feel everything that the charcters feel! Oh this was just so good!! :D Note: I know that this review is short but trust me. The shorter the review the more you know I loved it! Usually Long review mean that I'm ranting! :)

This was a really good read. It's more YA than I normally go for but I will read on because the ending sucked.

It's got a shit ton of self loathing, insecurity, self blame/doubt. It was so sad and hard to read at times because it was just so damn negative but, in the end, I did enjoy the bit of peace Aysa and Ezra were able to find.

I hated the way it ended and if book 2 doesn't give me the HEA I HAVE TO HAVE I will break something!

I haven't reviewed any book lately because I have had health issues. The fact is I've depressed a lot lately, to the point that I don't want to get out of bed.

But today was different for me. My Kindle had been yelling my name for the past couple days, and today I picked it up. My 'to-read' has been out of control, so I decided just to read the first book that was on my shelf and this was it.

I have a cardinal rule when I read and review books: NEVER EVER compare authors. EVER!

I'm breaking that rule today.

I've always loved book that suck me in, and don't let me go. I love books, that make me laugh, cry, yell, and scream. I love that they send me away from the reality that slapping me in my face.

Jane Austen is my go to author when I need this. I need that 'old world' behavior, and forget about everything that is here.

Rachel Higginson is the next author. I pick her because she is such an amazing author that she actually made me break my Kindle in her Star Crossed Series (that is a true series).

So, when I started Sparrows for Free I was thinking: Okay, a love story, blah blah, past tribulations, blah blah, happy ever after.

But I needed that...I needed something to take away the pain I've felt lately.

Well, I'm nothing but a big, dumb idiot! Because I have spent the last three hours, bawling my eyes out at this amazing story written by the fabulous mind of Lila Felix!!

How could I have thought this was just going to be 'just another story'? Especially when it comes from Lila.

See, I have loved Lila since her very first book! But, I get a little worried when 'another' book comes out, because some authors become 'cookie-cutter'. I mean it's just the same story over and over. And I knew this wasn't her "Love and Skate Series", so YES, I was worried.

Again, I'm nothing but a big, dumb idiot!

The first scene held me and didn't let me go. Ezra and Aysa are two people that have secrets from their past that are controlling their present lives.

I wanted to slap Ezra through most of the book. Not because he was a jerk (well, not the whole time), but he was a whiny girl at times. NOW, don't start yelling at me. He DID go through something traumatic and he should work through it. But, I still wanted to slap him.

Then Aysa. Oh that poor girl! Her past reminded me a lot of my own, and I could truly relate to her pain.

NOW, I loved how they found each other, and began to 'connect' and work through stuff!

BUT .............. I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE ENDING ........ NOPE .............. NO WAY!!!

Now, Lila usually ends with a ending that I can handle, but this cliffhanger just .... gggrrrr ... I just wanted to Facebook her and just say:

)(@&)($@&($*Y@iunaerfhai830*(Y@(*$(*@)(&(*#Y(&Y!(*&)@(HFJBKno

YEP.... I wanted to say that !!!

However, I want to thank her! Thank you Lila, because through Aysa and Ezra words I found hope in my own personal situation. I need to remember there is hope in every situation, whether it's fictional or real.

Thank you Lila! Thank you for helping me, even if you didn't know.

This book (and the next one) has earned a place on my 'go-to' shelf.

For that, I love you!!

Wow..... just.... wow.

I am wavering on how many stars...

4 Freeing Stars

I can't decide between 3, 3.5, or 4, so lets just go with 4.

First of all, I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this. The blurb, for me, wasn't very informative, but I thought... what the heck, lets do this.

In the beginning I knew I was going to hate this book. The characters and the whole atmosphere of the story was just.... depressing, and slow, and depressing. However, once the story really got started I was hooked.

I wavered in my ratings because of the beginning and the ending. The majority of the book was great.

Sparrows for Free is the story of Ezra and Aysa. They both have lived through some tragic events in their pasts and are just basically stuck. Ezra is stuck with the guilt and obsessed with what happened, so much so that he has stopped living any sort of life. He is surrounded by equally depressing friends who enable his never ending pity party.

Aysa is a girl who has been beaten down by everyone, especially the people who are supposed to love her the most mainly being her family. Everyone treats this girl like dirt, and she just takes it. She over analyzes everything people say and do to just continue making herself feel bad for her station in life. She has no friends. Her parents are mean. Her life sucks. However, instead of growing a pair, she hides. Her coping mechanism is hiding. I really wanted to grab her by the arms and shake her and tell her to grow a pair, but at the same time my heart was breaking for her.

Ezra and Aysa are both broken when they find each other. Yet somehow together, instead of being more broken together, they are good for each other. Together light is entering the darkness, laughter is found, and life begins to happen. They each begin a journey to find out who they really are, and what it is they really want out of life.

This turned out to be a beautiful story of overcoming loss and tragedy and learning to live again. I really enjoyed the story.... until the end.

That ending!!! I really wanted to shout at Lila Felix and ask her "why why why" in my most distraught and tearful voice. I mean really... why? I should have paid closer attention to reviews and realized that this was a cliffhanger. But not any cliffhanger....but the mother of all cliffhangers

The story is really good, the flow is amazing and BAM the story ends... just ends... and there is no release date for the next book!!!

If you don't mind a cliffhanger then read this book. It really is a captivating story. If you don't like cliffhangers, wait for the next book!

Happy Reading!

I really liked Lila Felix's AnguiSH so I decided to try this book authored by her also. She writes wonderfully flawed, quirky, loner-type characters you just feel so much for. But, nowhere, anywhere does the info on this book tell me its a CLIFFHANGER!!! And, #2 "Doves for Sale" hasn't been released yet. Excuse me while I scream!!!!!

But, I was introduced to two of the quirkiest and loveable characters ever. Aysa is a loner, longing for the affection her mother never showed her, "touch deprived" as someone put it. When things get too bad she hides in a closed cabinet in her entertainment center invisible to the outside world. She has no real friends, she just blends into the scenery. We think Aysa is totally weird until we meet Ezra.

Ezra is a handsome boy who in high school sweet talked a girl into sleeping with him. She got pregnant. She decided to give the child up for adoption against Ezra's wishes. One day driving his pregnant girlfriend home, Ezra's mind starts to wander thinking about the adoption and what he is going to do and he swerves off the road into a tree killing both the mother and child. He is consumed by their deaths. His whole life now revolves around thinking about them, thinking about the accident, becoming almost catatonic on the anniversary, going to confession with his brother, the priest, weekly to try and absolve himself and generally driving everyone around him crazy with his guilt and depression.

Ezra and Aysa meet. Ezra knows that Aysa needs help and comfort and he thinks that by helping her he might absolve some of his own guilt. But in the end we find that Ezra needs a lot more help than Aysa ever did and Aysa realizes she has become Ezra's enabler and he would be better without her. They have fallen in love but must part.

I really liked this book. It isn't really an easy read. You have to pay attention to what is going on and at times it seems a little tiring to keep dealing with these very broken people. At times you feel that Aysa is having her own pity party but then she can become so intuitive about both herself and Ezra it's scary.

Damn, I wish Book #2 was out but I'll certainly be reading it when it is published.

I was sent an ARC for an honest review!

This was amazing! When I first started out I thought this would be another sob story for the oh woe is me girl, but it is so much more. The characters are wonderful, it is written wonerfully, and I'm just gonna say it was WONDERFUL! Lol!

Aysa is a small girl who loves to hide, she is comforted by her small hiding spot in her entertainment center. (imagine just how small she is to fit in this little hidey hole). She thinks the world hates her, she feels she is invisible but this little woman is anything but invisible! She is strong, independent, smart and truthful all rolled into a small package. She is so much stronger than what she see's in the mirror. A great group of friends is all someone needs to climb out of there hiding places.

Ezra is a hot mess, shell of a man. Living with ghosts that don't exist fueled by deciet. A tragic accident shaped his future and continues to rule his life. Aysa is a breath of fresh air that his lungs need to breath! She is the eye opening honesty that he needs to hear. She is broken in her own way, but she is the glue that is sticking him back together. He is so twisted in his own head he could lose the second chance he's been given.

Mara is the girl he lost, Grey was her best friend and now she is Ezra's best friend and roommate. They are coping together. But coping can lead to codependancy which can lead to things going seriously wrong.

Dobber (Roman) is the other roommate and best friend. As the author says "picture Howard from The Big Bang Theory", hilareous! He is awesome! He is a great friend to Aysa. He see's the situation for what it is and is just an all around great guy.

There are so many great supporting characters, and funny moments I could just go on all day! I loved this book, it will be added to my favorite reads of 2014! This is a must read! An absolute page turner, I started it and didn't put it down until the end.

This is my first book by Lila Felix. I read this book as part of a group challenge. 16% into the story and I still had no clue where the story was heading. Ezra and Aysa (I wish we'd gotten the correct pronunciation of her name in the text) are two characters who seem to have so much going against them, so much despair. Well we were told that but I never really felt that. Aysa seemed a bit more interesting to me than Ezra.

I was bored with the first 2/3 of the book but then the final 1/3 started to pick up. I could finally see a story here. This would have been a solid 2 star rating but then the book ends abruptly and we don't get any kind of resolution. Since I only read this book for a challenge, I won't be reading the next installment.

Relatable, raw, fresh, emotional and amazing! Those are just a few words I would use to describe this story. Lila has written a story that is going to tug at your heartstrings, feel what the characters are feeling and rejoice with them as they grow.

Ezra and Aysa have hidden away from life and themselves. They've both had experiences in the past that has halted their happiness and life. It took meeting each other for them to realize that they want more from themselves. Throughout the story you get to see the growth in them and the want to grow.

I love how Lila writes, she is my favorite author, but this book in particular she has written so well that you are able to feel all the emotion and the growth that the characters are going through. She is able to make you want to jump into the story and help them out and guide them along. I would definitely recommend that you read this book as soon as it comes out.

No one writes damaged characters like Lila Felix! I always end up wanting to hug them through the pages or grab them by the collar and shake them if they are being destructive. In this case both. The characters in this book are so messed up! Add one dead girlfriend, a manipulative best frien and a kind of basket case and you get magic!

This book was depressing most of the time. And just like the characters, it tended to drown you in their sorrows. That you just wanted to stop it already. However, the saving grace for this, it didn't fail to leave out, little sparks of hope here and there. And those kept me reading through the end. And it should come as a warning that this book has a sequel and with a bit of a cliffhanger.

I do enjoy Lila Felix but this book was a miss for me. I feel like I might have been reading a different book seeing all the glowing reviews.

Could be a great story but it drags a lot and it seems like there is a lot not being revealed.

This was a rather PG coming of age romance. It was just an ok read for me. My main complaint is that it ended on a cliffhanger and I am not a fan of those. Book 2 is offered on kindleunlimited so I guess I will give it a try just to get some sort of closure for this series.

Thought there was a lot of potential, but got rather confusing for me - I couldn't understand why everyone hated on Aysa so much, didn't make sense. It didn't read much like a well thought out story.

This book completely captured me from the moment I started reading. I am sure that you all know by now how much I love Lila Felix’s writing. She has a way of creating theses damaged and broken characters and you find yourself completely wrapped up in their world. Feeling their pain and and heath right along with them. Sparrows for Free was a beautiful, yet heart wrenching story of two damaged people just living their lives day by day. Their world slowly starts to change, and they become more alive when they find each other.

Ezra is still haunted by his past, from that one tragic night that changed everything for him. He has yet to let go of it all, still carrying around the guilt of what happened. He has just been working and living, not really caring about much. He doesn’t believe that he deserves any happiness at all. He is best friends with Gray, who has been by his side since the accident. She is in just as much pain as he is. But they both seem to be in their own world, mourning and dealing with the pain that it is hard for anyone else to be a part of their world. They have a great group of friends and Ezra has an amazing brother who loves him, but it's as if their life revolves around Ezra and his mood. It is all about him and how he cannot let go of the past. He needs to move on, he needs to have a life again. But when someone has that much guilt for something that they feel was their fault, it is hard to let go. When he meets Aysa, things start to change for him.

Aysa has her own heartache. For most of her life she has been invisible to the people around her, including her own family. My heart broke for the way her own mother treated her. She was such a wonderful person who was of full of love. When things got too tough to handle she would hide, and I mean literally hide in her secret spot. She needed to block everyone and everything out. Then she meets Ezra and her life starts to have some meaning. He introduces her to his friends and for the first time in her life she has friends who treat her they way she should be treated. She has people who actually care. Ezra and Aysa slowly begin to get to know each other. She becomes a part of his life and his group of friends. But sometimes things aren’t always as they appear. There is someone is not so fond of the close relationship that she has formed with Ezra and will do what it takes to sabotage it. The have finally begin to find happiness, will someone else get in the way of that happiness?

I loved these two characters. Aysa is a strong heroine despite the way she has been treated for most of her life. She is one of those characters that I can personally relate to in so many ways. They are both so broken and damaged that you want to jmp in and hg them. I hated the way her mother treat her and felt so sad for her. Ezra was hurting so badly and carried so much guilt for something that was not his fault. Ezra continued to beat himself up over something that happened over 4 years ago. He didn’t think he deserved to be loved. But deep down you see how much love he has and what a great person he is. He wants to be a better person and wants to live and feel again. He wants to be happy. And you want him to find his happiness.

This is told in alternating point of views which I love. And Lila even gives us a bonus chapter in another POV which I also loved but it also caused knots in my stomach at the same time. This is an amazing story and I think it had a little more angst and drama which I loved. It certainly had it’s sad moments but there are moments that will also make you smile. And yes my heartbeat raced a few times as well. Another amazing job by Lila. I cannot wait for the second book.

Sparrows for Free is an amazingly beautiful story of two broken individuals. Lila Felix has done it again, writing another compellingly addictive story that I couldn't get enough of. Told from the dual points of view of Ezra and Aysa, it was lovely, heartbreaking and stunning.

It all begins with Ezra and an accident that leaves a horribly dark scar on his life, forever changing him. Fast forward several years and he is living with his best friends Dobber and Gray. Ezra and Gray have a complicated friendship, tangled in the past and solidly connected as a result of the accident that changed it all. They are both a mess and so immersed in their own pain that they seem stuck in a never-ending dysfunctional cycle. On one of their regular friday outings together they go to a Catholic church where they have a brief encounter with Aysa.

Aysa, is different. One of the more unique female leads that I've ever read about. She's broken, but she's oddly strong. I found myself very intrigued by her behavior, and the fact that she closes herself away into tiny closed in spaces just made her even more interesting. I really liked her, she's sarcastic, funny, and completely un-self-aware, it was wonderful reading her journey. When Aysa meets Ezra, Ezra does what everyone else does to her, doesn't even notice her. But then they meet again and she's all he can see. I loved it. I loved their connection, and the slow but steady relationship that builds between them.

All of the other characters are equally as interesting. You've got Gray, who in the beginning I really liked, but as the story progressed I began to get a little scared. However, I still like her, it should be interesting to see where she goes in the next book. Then there's Ezra's brother, Knox, and oh my...he's a priest, and he's really kinda awesome - I loved him. Then of course the three musketeers of friends, Dobber, Leon and Neil, these three are awesomesauce. I can't wait to see more of all of them in the next book.

Overall, this was another beautifully done story by the incredibly awesome Lila Felix. I loved it so much I finished it in one afternoon. And even though, it ends on a killer cliffhanger that has left me desperate for the next book, I still trust Lila Felix, I can't wait to see how she finishes this story. Amazing, amazing read, can't recommend it enough.

I am genuinely surprised people are giving this 4-5 stars and calling it 'amazing'. There are so many issues I have with this.

The main female character is probably one of the most annoying characters I've read in a while, and I read Twilight not too long ago. She is completely spineless and probably the most insecure person to ever have been written into existence. The slightest thing that is said that isn't completely mollycoddling her makes her freak out, leaving her to hide in a cupboard until she feels more emotionally stable. I didn't even mind the cupboard so much. I thought it was a pretty unique and quite interesting little trait to have. What I did mind was with the self importance this character, Aysa, walked around life. She is convinced that everyone hates her, even people she has never even met before. Do adult people this insecure actually exist in real life? Meanwhile, they keep talking about how she never breaks and how strong she is... What a joke! She is the weakest female character I've read, and I find that very, very sad. The fact that she does a 180 and completely turns confident woman at the drop of another hat is also baffling, but OK.

The bond that forms between Ezra and Aysa is pretty instant once they start hanging out, and immediately, he's ... what, exactly? He's pacing the floor "like a maniac" because she acted like a child and turned her phone off and didn't want to talk to him. He's locking his friend out of his flat so he can find out where Aysa is because she got annoyed over something else. People don't do this. 21-year-old men don't do this with chicks they've just met. I understand that this is fictional romance, but I like my romance to be at least somewhat believable.

Ezra's white knight syndrome is annoying at best. Her voice is so small. She's so fragile. She's his second chance. He needs her to save him and he needs to save her, that's pretty evident. Why does he need her to have a small voice? At the same time, the author has made her cooler than 'other girls', she doesn't like shopping, she's a killer at video games and she only watches 'guy movies', whatever the hell that is (didn't know films have genders). It's such a ridiculous stereotype, and would she really have been less of a character if she had been into chick flicks? Apparently so.

Finally, this writer needs to check her grammar properly. Tenses changed willy nilly, which was REALLY annoying and sentences lacked words or were structured really oddly. I definitely won't bother with Lila Felix's next releases.

ARC Review:

Lila Felix will capture your heart with her latest love story "Sparrow for Free". Ezra & Aysa are two broken people looking for the missing pieces of their hearts in a world of rejection. Together they find strength, courage & themselves.

Aysa is invisible, at least that's how she feels. She works hard, never complains & instead of being praised she's dismissed by others. Even Aysa's own family withholds their affections from her. The one time she doesn't feel alone & outcasted is in her special safe haven, her hiding place, the cabinet. Here, tucked in tightly, she's enveloped in love & warmth. Enjoying the beauty of the Christmas decorations, Aysa enters & church & discovers she feels comforted there. One evening, tucked into the refuge of her pew, Aysa sees Ezra *sigh*

Ezra's past is so deeply etched into him he can't move passed it. He's caught up in a vicious cyclone of self loathing & depriving, friends & family hold him at arms length for fear of being sucked in with him. One person is Ezra's life line in the living hell he calls life & that's Gray, she alone understands his torment. Until he meets Aysa.....

Ezra is drawn to Aysa's peaceful spirit & begins to step out of the darkness & live life. Together they start to feel an inner harmony that was missing from their lives. Like life, nothing is ever easy soon, Ezra's ghosts wrap around him & yank him into misery again. With the relationship on shaky ground Aysa begins to doubt their love will be strong enough to save Ezra. The breaking point comes when a trusted friend betrays them both, shattering the relationship.

Ezra knows he must face his demons & destroy them if he has any hope at winning Aysa back. Will Ezra be able to overcome his past to build a future with Aysa or will the fight be too much??

I loved this story for so many reasons!! Aysa & Ezra are two people who are truly suffering from their pasts & the scars run deep. I liked watching them come out of their shells & let loose. Aysa really grew in the story & realized her self worth & began making healthy choices even the the consequences were painful. Ezra was shocked into clarity when he realized just what he was going to lose. This is a story of two people who not only fight for love but for who they really are. I've loved ALL of Lila's books as always, I can't choose a favorite. I must say though, I don't remember any of Lila's characters battling so feverishly for love. Truly aw-inspiring!

It took me many tries to read this book. I don't know what it was but I wasn't feeling this book at first. The beginning is very confusing in my opinion. I felt very lost and I didn't know what was going on but the more I read it, the more I got sucked in. Felix is a fantastic writer. The story and characters she created are amazing. I adore Aysa. I have so much respect and admiration for her. In the beginning, she has no backbone. She had a very tough childhood that was filled with a lot of neglect and lack of appreciation. And throughout the book, we get to see her become stronger. In my opinion, the moment she started becoming stronger was when she met Ezra. I'm not a big fan of stories that surround a character fixing someone that's broken. I didn't see this story as that way. I didn't think that Ezra was trying to fix Aysa or vice versa. Ezra and Aysa are helping each other get through the demons they both had. I think that's what made it work. They developed an understanding and respect for one another. I admired that. I really did love how Aysa helped Ezra and how Ezra helped Aysa. It was wonderful. I grew such a fondness for these characters. I really did like Ezra because he was so caring. At times, he did become a little bit over-bearing but I was able to look past that because his character is still not completely over his demons. But I admired how he developed and approached his relationship with Aysa. He was very respectful and it was really cute to see how much he grew to adore her. I really did love how his friends were able to easily accept Aysa into their world. It was really sweet. Overall, as much as I like Ezra. Aysa is my favorite. I love that she put herself above anything else. As much as she likes Ezra, she knows that she needs to put herself first.

“I’m willing to fight for love, I’m willing to fight for him—but I won’t lose myself in the process. And I’m just beginning to know who I am for once.
Gladly, I will help him from his quicksand, but I’ll be damned if I’ll let him pull me down into the spiraling sands with him.”

I literally love this quote because honestly, it sends an important message. Never lose yourself in the process of love.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK.

First of all I love Lila Felix and everything she writes. She is the coolest person and so sweet. So knowing all this made me nervous to submit this review. Luckily I worried for no reason. So, here are the reasons to read Sparrows For Free:

1. The characters in the book are not caught up constantly in a lust filled fog. Ezra and Aysa start to build a relationship that has nothing to do with how much they want to sleep with each other. The nice thing is they both are trying to help the other battle their own personal demons. That seems to be what bonds them together in the beginning. Also for once the guy in the book says stupid things instead of just the girl embarrassing herself. That was a nice change.

2. You feel every emotion when you read this book: Embarassment, Sadness, Anger, Joy.

3. Lila has you liking and feeling sorry for one of the characters and then you end wanting to smack the character and hire a hit man to get rid of the person.

4.Even though Aysa struggles with standing up for herself and making other see her for who she is.She starts to learn how to let go of the past and heal.

5. We are not constantly told how amazing the Ezra looks and how his muscles have muscles. He doesn't seem to unattainable. In a nutshell he is a normal guy that it isn't too hard to be able to picture Aysa with him.

The only negative thing to me was in the beginning Ezra annoyed me with how he couldn't forgive himself and move on completely with his life. But, as the book progresses you realize there is a reason for everything. Then, you understand and overlook it.

Sparrows For Free was a good book and be prepared to want to smack Lila for making us wait to read the second book in the series Doves for Sale.
