Ayano Yamane (native name: やまねあやの) is one of Japan's most popular Boys' Love genre manga artist.
She debuted as a professional manga artist in 1996 and since then has published several BL series and illustrated many light novels. She is one of the top selling BL manga artists in Japan. Her most successful work is the Finder series.

Well. I hoped for so much more. I guess this volume is ok, on the same level as the first two, but... But there is this volume 3 , which is perfect. So comparing everything with the third volume is very tempting, though maybe not exactly fair. Is there a chance Ms. Yamane makes every third volume much better than the rest? Then all I have to do is to wait for the next one. However, it seems it's going to be a long wait :(

Since it's been a while since the last volume came out, I reread the first four volumes before reading this. I remember really liking this when I first read it; now I have to say that while it's good for what it's trying to be, I've read much better.. the art is nice to look at, but overall it never really grabbed me. Idk, in a way I get why it is as popular as it is, but in my heart that kind of series will never reach the top.

There were a very choppy points that made me wonder if pages had been accidentally omitted (like when Mars coincidentally(?) shows up at the graveyard the Vald and Havi happened to take refuge in, carrying a wreath, but on the next page they're in a street sans wreath and it's never mentioned who he was going to the grave of).

Other than that, a pretty strong installment in terms of advancing the larger story arc. They are finally starting to learn more about the mostly-off-page bad guy who cursed the sword, and about Lim's past.

The plot becomes more interesting and compelling. All characters are well drawn. Cute little sketches between the characters. Havi has created a special seal. The author leaves us with a cliffhanger: who will be the evil super wizard?

So after the break up in the last volume Havi and Val are back together again, because pretty art and boy sex is what sells this manga, we mustn't tinker too much with the selling factor. There is some cross-dressing, everybody attempts to ignored that Havi and Val are having hot, dirty sex and random monster try to attack Val so Havi can rescue him and they can soulfully look into each other's eyes and kiss.

The manga as a whole is losing some steam but the pretty art and hot sex persist.

I love this series, and I recommend it to any yaoi fan. In past volumes, the sex has been pretty explicit, but it was less so in volume five. I love that it is a fantasy (as in magic), series, and I can't wait for the next one. Vald and Havi are endearing together, and I like Rulca, too. The artwork is beautiful, and bear artwork means beautiful men.

Another fine entry in the series with all the usual delights - eyecandy galore and amusing bits (I almost spewed my coffee over Halvir's protection of Vald's "chastity." Hahahahaha!). I even sense that we could be approaching the end of the story *gasp* don't worry, I'm sure it won't actually be out in English for ages to come.

Tomo muy intenso en el que se desenmascaran varios secretos y en el cual nos encaminamos hacia el desenlace del manga.
Llegados al imperio de Zenedura, Vald se topa con el mago que maldijo su espada, así como sale a la luz una verdad concerniente a Limris.

definitely enjoying this series more without the dubious consent sex scenes.

vald is definitely growing more attached to havi and being honest about his feelings. and honestly theyre cute.

i borrowed vol 1-5 from the library, but i they dont 6 & 7 so i have to wait to finish reading this 😭


i definitely went into this with 0 context, but the series definitely grew on me.

Title: Crimson Spell Vol. 5 by Ayano Yamane

Volume 5 continues in the space time realm where Rimris and Vald are currently trapped although they have managed to escape from Astador for now. Throughout the past couple of volumes we have seen Vald changing slowly, now whenever he changes to his demon form we see these white wings emerge before the demon that seem almost angelic which might hint at something hidden within the demon’s nature that we haven’t seen yet or something with Vald himself.
Rimris has sealed himself and Vald in a separate part of the space time realm and we learn he was the lover of Vald’s father in order to receive visions of the future and in order to get his powers back he needs Vald to help him being of the same bloodline. However, sex without feelings is something that Vald isn’t able to do despite it being to help a friend and ally of his Kingdom as his heart belongs to Havi.
In a moment of rage, Vald is able to destroy the outer barrier allowing Havi to enter that space to save him but Rimris simply walks out leaving both Havi and Vald behind in the space time realm. Havi immediately begins looking for the barrier but the entire space is infested with demons and they can’t keep fighting through them. Havi notices the barrier in on Vald and begins breaking it but this is a painful process that Havi has to guide Vald through in order to return them. When they do return they realise that something is controlling people of the Imperial Fortress but only at night and they have to get to the bottom of it.

This volume features the cutest moment ever between Vald and Halvir. The prince finally realize that he needs the sorcerer at his side and what a good team they made.

Now on the negative side I could have done without the whole “Vald almost get rape, not once but twice”, I though this series was better than this horrible yaoi trope, guess I was wrong.

There is a new enemy that wants Vald demonic power, the sorcerer Asterdol. The moment the prince gets separated from Halvir, he gets stuck in a dimensional prison with Limris and the consult is not to be trusted. Since the moment this character was introduce in previous volume, I knew he was up to no good.

It funny how the author note mention that Vald have some strong “manly” moments in this volume, but I find he almost have turn into a damsel in distress and get constantly capture by his enemies. I am disappointed and hope that this will get better in the next volume.

Val and Co. are in a new magic city, which is always entertaining. But at night, some creatures appear and Havi along with his prince, fight against them –leading of course, to a sex scene, lol.

Later we find Rim was the magician who was bound to the first King, Val’s ancestor, and now he wants to restore his power by forcing him to stay with him. Of course Val doesn’t want this and Havi too comes to the rescue.

Now, this manga has its ups and downs. Sometimes it’s a lot of porn, sometimes the plot is heavier, which I’m not complaining, but it’s kinda fun to see how the author conveniently puts Havi and Val in sexy situations, lol.

Vol. 1-5 read in german. Overall rating of 3,2 stars.

It's pretty frustrating reading a manga series and having forgotten that is still not complete. Grrr.
So after 5 parts I can say that the story was looking pretty straight forward till it got more and more ... not confusing but spread out. I like the style in which the story is drawn especially how the artist drew Vald in his more demonic form. And well, the sex scenes. ;-)
Still I was a little disturbed with the overall lack of consent and the more forced parts.
Well, other than that it was an ok read; story-wise I liked vol. 3 best.

While I wish they would publish the next volumes in german, I'll be reading hobby translated scans (http://mangakakalot.com/chapter/crims...).

After the previous 4 volumes I found this one a teeny bit disappointing - I think a lot of it because of how much plot it crams in all at once, there's less room for romance or humour. Havi/Vald only have one love scene and it's very brief although I do so love Vald with wings, the artwork is gorgeous.

I think more than anything though I'm frustrated because this is the penultimate volume - so it leaves things very much in the air and despite being released in 2015, there is no hint of if or when volume 6 will be released ARGH!

Still for thouse of you who like their yaoi with a fantasy setting this is at the top of its game and the artwork is beautiful.

Crimson Spell is like a weird rollercoaster ride with lots of ups and even more downs. I just had said how I was interested in learning more about Limris but come to find out he’s just another creeper that wants to grope and assault Vald. Vald who is once again a kidnapping and SA victim. I don’t know how you can have so much attempted SA in one volume of media. The only reason this isn’t getting one star is because I continue to find Rulca hilarious and Mars endearing. Halrein has grown on me too. I have two volumes left of this series and really am hoping the author stops with the constant assault it’s disgusting.

Este volumen no me gusto nada ¿Había necesidad de que Val sea casi violado, no una, sino dos veces? Es un recurso que se usa demasiado en este tipo de historias y lo odio, aparte el protagonista actúa como si nada y ni siquiera se enoja con el violador. Además de eso, no pasa realmente mucho en la historia.

Vald is just going through it ! Gosh i feel sorry for the poor prince because his heart is in the right place but he simply doesnt know what game he has put himself in. In questo volume l'autrice mette in secondo piano l'elemento romantico/erotico per concentrarsi molto sulla storia, arricchendola di dettagli, intrighi e rivelazioni. Una scelta che personalmente ho apprezzato perché trovo abbia dato più rotondità all'opera. I disegni poi sono sempre uno spettacolo. Ah, se si potesse avere un Havi reale, se si potesse…
