5 ⭐️ AND MORE!

*slight spoilers but I have tried really hard not to*

I genuinely feel like my insides have been scooped out and left to dry in the sun. This book picks up right where the first one ended (that evil little cliffhanger) and dives even deeper into the absolute heartbreak of Azahara’s journey.

I want to scream about what she goes through … like she just cannot catch a break - but I won’t spoil anything. Just know that it’s painful, it’s powerful and it made me feel every kind of emotion. Azahara’s strength despite everything … it’s not always there and that’s what makes her feel real. Because pushing forward when you’re shattered? That’s bravery.

Also there’s Jayce. I didn’t think it was possible to love him more than Kaed and yet HERE WE ARE. I was genuinely surprised (and slightly unwell) by the way things unfolded around him. And the new characters? Incredible additions. The found family vibes are strong and beautiful - adored Alyse the most I think.

That ending though!? JFC another cliffhanger. Another emotional gut-punch. Another reason I need the next book yesterday.

ARC review: I am unwell after reading book two in The Keepers series. I savored this one longer than book one because I knew I would have a long wait for book three. My favorite thing about the Dragons Keeper is that it gave me my newest book boyfriend. Plus, even more found family than the first book and the banter I love.

The Dragon’s Keeper by M.L. Burns is the second book in The Keeper Series, a fantasy saga that continues to follow the adventures of Azahara, a young woman who develops a special bond with dragons. In this sequel, Azahara faces new challenges and dangers as she travels to the Isle of Ilkiz, the legendary home of the Power of Dragons as she continues to try and break her curse from the god Goddick. Along the way, she encounters new allies and enemies, both human and supernatural, who will test her courage, loyalty, and destiny. In the second book, M.L. Burns will unveil the mysteries that kept you craving for more, and restless from book one, curious about who, what, and why.

The book is a captivating and thrilling read, with a fast-paced plot, vivid descriptions, and engaging characters. M.L Burns does a great job of creating a rich and immersive world, where magic, mythology, and history flow together, effortlessly. The dragons are especially fascinating, as they have distinct personalities, abilities, and secrets that we continue to discover throughout the book. Azahara’s relationship with them is complex and dynamic, as she learns more about their history, culture, and role in the balance of the world.

The book also explores themes such as identity, family, friendship, love, betrayal, sacrifice, and redemption. Azahara is a relatable and sympathetic protagonist, who struggles with her past, her present, and her future. In this book, she struggles a lot with self sabotage, doubt, and not knowing who she really is. But her journey forces her to overcome her fears, doubts, and insecurities, as well as the external forces that threaten her and those she cares about. She also has to make difficult choices, some of which have dire consequences. The book shows her growth and development, as well as her flaws and mistakes. She is not perfect by far but I love that she is all about family friendship and love despite everything that she’s been through. She is still willing to love fight, and care for the people that are close to her. The ones that she calls her family.

This book contains some very dark and disturbing scenes that surpass the ones in book one, that will make you cry, scream, hurt, and feel for Azahara in a way that no other fictional character has ever made you feel. The way that ML Burns crafts her characters in her stories is done with such beauty and skill that you are compelled to fall in love with them, hate them, and grow with them. By the time you finish each book, you feel a deep connection with each character, as if they were part of your own world. She is the only author that has managed to pull me into her fantasy world so completely. When I put down the book, I can’t stop thinking about these characters and their situation for days on end.

The book ends with a cliffhanger that left me eager for the next installment. The Dragon’s Keeper is a captivating and thrilling fantasy adventure that will appeal to fans of dragons, magic, ACOTAR and epic quests. It is a worthy sequel to the first book, The Keeper of Dragons, and is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a well-written and imaginative story. This book is in a class of its own, even though I compared it to ACOTAR. It can compete with the finest and most brilliant books, and it can stand on its own merits.

I’ve been sitting on this review for far too long but I still don’t have the words to describe how it made me feel. It brought me joy, heartbreak, love, fear and a sense of belonging. Aza is just such an incredible character and she’s surrounded by a found family that gives her everything she needs when fighting her demons and growing into the woman she was always meant to be.

I haven’t felt this way about a series since I read Throne of Glass and it’s such an amazing feeling! This story gave me hope and just reminds me why I love reading so much. The Dragons Keeper is truly one of the best books I’ve ever read. If you are a romantasy lover, you definitely need to give it a try!

The Dragons Keeper is the second book of an amazing Dark Fantasy series, The Keeper Series, written by M. L. Burns who enchants readers once more, spinning a tale as intricate and mesmerizing as the finest elven tapestry.
At the center of this woven world of wonder stands Azahara, a heroine whose indomitable spirit, in stark contrast to her repeatedly broken body, remains as unyielding as the ancient magic that courses through her veins. Her passage to the Isle of Ilkiz unfolds into an epic quest of renewal, self-reawakening, and dominion over her extraordinary powers, fueled by the twin flames of vengeance and the defense of her chosen kin.
It’s a riveting fantasy saga that intertwines threads of extreme animosity , profound sorrow, enduring love, palpable suspense, and intricate intrigue across realms and epochs. This tale is crafted to hold you in its thrall until the final word. The characters are sculpted with meticulous care, the settings are brimming with originality, and the author’s cinematic narrative coupled with unmatched prose seizes your focus, ensnaring your senses in an adventure that is as much heartrending as it is heart-mending.The ending struck with such force that it left me utterly spellbound and desperate for the third book.
In the shadowed corridors of Dark Fantasy The Dragons Keeper stands as a towering achievement. My. L. Burns has crafted a narrative that is as haunting as it is unforgettable. This series offers an enigmatic journey like no other. For those who dare to traverse its veiled trails, the rewards are immeasurable. Unreservedly recommended.

My heartfelt thanks to the author for the privilege of receiving an eARC of this mesmerizing tale; your generosity has allowed me a glimpse into worlds beyond imagination.

Firstly I feel I need to say.. please read the trigger warnings. They aren’t there to put fear into you or to entice you to read the book but to protect you as the reader and are warranted one million percent.

The dragons keeper is the second book in the keeper series which continues to follow Azahara’s story. Pain, fear, love, hate, any emotion you can name this amazing girl has felt it ten times over yet she still stays standing. Azahara is the MFC of all MFCs, not only beautiful but absolutely badass always doing whatever she can to keep her loved ones safe from harm, even if it could cost her life.

I have loved every second of getting to know and love all the new characters that have been brought into Aza’s story, apart from the main good (because godd**k can do one) characters (& Sam of course) I don’t think I could ever choose a favourite. The way every character has been written by Mel is phenomenal, I felt everything they felt, saw everything Mel described them seeing and fell more in love with them with every page that I turned.

I could go on and on about not only this book but also the hourglass keeper (first book in the series).. I am absolutely grateful to have stumbled across the author on TikTok and am overwhelmingly honoured to have become apart of her team. Congratulations ML Burns yet again on such an amazing, awe inspiring and phenomenal book!!

I cannot wait for the world to see what I see and love the way I do ♥️

After I finished The Hourglass Keeper, I was so ready to jump back into Azahara’s story. Without writing any spoilers, this book was filled with action, tension, twists, and heartbreak. Basically everything you want in a book, especially in a sequel.

I cannot explain the love I have for Azahara and her family. She has been through so many heartbreaking things, and I don’t think she’s done going through them. I’m terrified, but also excited, to see where she takes her story next. She is broken, but strong, and that makes for a wonderful fmc.

Also, I really loved the mental aspect to this book. To me, it’s always nice to be inside the characters’ heads, trying to understand the turmoil they’re feeling. Healing is not linear, and that is demonstrated so well in this book. The Keeper Series will go down as one of my favorites, and I’m impatiently waiting to see where the author will take it next.

Azahara’s story continues in The Dragons Keeper, book II in the keeper series. Azahara is no stranger to pain, yet she continues to push forward and fight for the people she loves. All while battling with her mental health, running for her life, and seeking answers that can help her along her perilous journey. So much is resting on her shoulders, the question is will she break? This heart stopping, emotional roller coaster is packed with action, adventure, tension, spice, and much needed healing. Azahara is the epitome of strength and feminine rage.

MELISSA!! Wow!!

This is the second book in The Keeper Series and it made me feel all of the feelings. The surprises I didn’t see coming? Eeee! Aza’s strength to withstand everything she’s put through, and remembers is admirable.

The spice level is lower than the first in the series, but it is better IMO. So tasteful. Maybe because of the MMC. I love him. There is no greater man in my mind ❤️

I need book 3 now, please!

This will hurt me so bad. This is the worst villain I’ve ever read, I’m probably the most I’ve ever highlighted a book just with how the language in every chapter spoke to me.

This book does a phenomenal job at being an addicting and fun read while also exploring themes of grief, trauma, and anxiety in such deep and impactful ways.

I’m so in love with Mel‘s writing world and this series as a whole

Wow!!! This book was amazing!! The character building, world building and magic system were so well written.

M.L. Burns does a fantastic job of pulling you in and rocketing you through time and space with twists and turns you never expected!
This book being the second in The Keeper Series immerses you in the world of Azahara and her attempts to free herself from the grips of the god who cursed her and the Fae and King who wish to destroy her.
Her life is not her own, but she survives the unimaginable and gets right back up again! Her strength is a testament to women everywhere who are stronger than they know!
I wish I had, even, an ounce of the strength Azahara shows in this book.
The love she has for the family she creates and the strength she shows in the face of everything she endures is awe inspiring!

Thank you M.L. for creating a story that broke me and put me back together before it broke me all over again.
I can't wait to see what's next in Azahara's story and the world of the Keeper!

I received this book as an ARC and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

This was easily a 5 star reading experience! This is also spicy, but I'm not the best person to judge that aspect. Before you start this, remember to read tw! They are listed for a reason. The whole thing was great, with all its horrors. I would have liked to read more immediately! What else would you dare to say without spoiling anything. Well, at least the FMC is here 🔥 there should be more like this. With warmth (or actually heat) I can recommend both this and the first part, The Hourglass Keeper

And she does it again. I don't even know how to describe these books aside from absolutely heartbreaking and healing all at the same time. This is the second book in the Keeper series by M L Burns. Aza is on the run from her actions in book one but in her escape she meets and unlikely friend again, Jayce. He seems so straight & to the point but can he be trusted? I'm going to spoil it for you....yes he can. I refuse from this point on in my life to settle for nothing less than someone telling me my body should be worshipped. The slow burn to the perfect chapters of 33, 34 AND 44 are so worth it (and I'm not a slow burn kinda girl).

I can't make you read this series but I can tell you that if you don't, you are absolutely missing out.

As always, ending with some of my favorites

"You smell like black tea as it settles into the hot water. You will always be my sun... always."

"Some would praise her as the hero, while many would brand her as the true villain. The burden of perception weighed heavily on her heart"
"You are anything but helpless." His voice carried a tenderness reserved only for her, "Close your eyes, take a breath, and feel peace."

"I don't know all of you, but I know what love feels like, and I hope to be able to give it to you one day."

His soul finally knew what it was like to be touched by hers, and there would be no going back. The only way he could think of, was to forcefully separate him- self from her, try to get himself back in check, and then return with a stronger resolve. That, however, was never going to happen.

I’m still processing… I’ll be back with my review. > okayy it’s almost been 9 months since I said i would back lmaooo but baby , I just couldn’t wrap my head around the things that took place in this book. Fantasy isn’t my go to genre. So the fact that I’m so addicted to this series is actually insane.

Dragons Keeper is by far my favorite book in the series right now. It was so healing for me in various different ways. I see myself in Azas struggle as far as the cards she was dealt in life… “heavy is the head” & all that. I see myself in Zhal because honestly… she is literally me. But I also see myself in “Sam” because the way that he loves is the way i naturally give love & what I wouldn’t do to finally be on the receiving end of that for once.

This one was SIGNIFICANTLY darker than the first book , the hourglass keeper & it immediately picks up where the first one left off. I truly had to pace myself because some of the things that took place , I felt on a soul level. Aza just can’t seem to catch a break & THAT alone RESONATES.

If you are able to push past the trauma & heartache in the first half of the story , i truly believe this book would be worth the read.

"The Dragon's Keeper" dives into the stormy journey of Azahara, who is tied up by trauma and power. On the backcloth of dark myth told in Azahara's tale are tricky relations with other strong beings: the Fae, dragons, and gods. She is haunted by a past filled with violence, betrayal, and struggles of identity. The story follows her as she confronts these imposing adversaries-Goddrick and tussles with loyalties, pulling her between revenge and redemption. Every moment, every encounter, draws her just that little bit closer to understanding what her power is and what that power is going to cost her. Because of that, it's one wild emotional ride-from takedowns about the price of power and love in a no-quarter-asked world.

Azahara: The entire story is centered on her, and her character is better developed. She is in a personal battle as a result of the abuses of the past and her responsibility to her loved ones. She gets motivated in the story due to the need to survive, preserve herself, and want revenge. Much of her psychological strength is underpinned by the trauma she has faced-one that drives her, yet sends her off kilter at times.

Jayce: Strong and loyal, Jayce has been both protector and partner to Azahara. The times she spends with him are, therefore, solace and emotional security for her amidst the chaos. The protectiveness towards Azahara, even to the extent of vengeance, shows a complexity of both kindness and ferocity.

Goddrick is an antagonist and cruel, he is never merciful in the story. All the actions he conducts against Azahara are aimed at reminding her of the dangers she may run and act as oppression, which she tries to surmount. The manipulation he conducts and his sadistic nature bring out the darker memories and conflicts in Azahara's life and add weight to the tension in the story.

Ilkiz, Kaed, and Xol add layers to this particular tale of relationship dynamics, some decidedly wavering in their loyalties. Each of these relationships continues to shape Azahara's world and influence her emotional highs and lows while underscoring at the same time her struggles between love and revenge.

The aftermath of trauma has been elaborated in this novel through the psychological turmoil of Azahara. Representing the abuses suffered and a harrowing fight to reclaim herself from the remembered pains through flashbacks and inner struggles, which is a reality.
The work is laced with themes of power, especially in the unequal relationships which Azahara went through-with those seeking to control or even do harm to her. This can be evidenced in her relations to entities such as Godrick. From this can be seen a commentary in the story about control and autonomy-and resilient people.
Most saliently, Azahara shows the love a character like Jayce and others will have for her-most of the sacrifices that she must make. It tugs at the more tenuous edges of her tough independence and the necessity to fight her battles on her own terms.

The style taken up by M. L. Burns's "Dragon Keeper" is dense and evocative, full of billowy, descriptive phrases that put the reader in the middle of Azahara's world. The pacing veers wildly from taut, tight scenes of confrontation to a much laxer reflective tone. First-person gives one a deep view into Azahara's mind, which does much better in supporting the emotional weight the story is trying to carry. Language is evocative, often in moments of pain or in vulnerable or intimate situations. However, there are places that could drag a little because of the extreme level of detail in describing the main character's inner world and trauma that might alter the pace of reading for some readers.

"The Dragon's Keeper" is a darkly psychological novel of resilience, loyalty, and power. M. L. Burns has magnificently narrated the delineation of a traumatized protagonist's mind while limning her fragile and formidable strengths. Some may disagree with the content, as it is mostly dark, but for the most part, this book provides a perspective few have envisioned for survival and identity in a world full of mythical obstacles. With "The Keeper Series" sequel, it feels like the book is a little more into the deeper fantasy elements than others; the raw way trauma and the development of the characters come off really sets this series apart from all the others in its genre.

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Writing Style: ★★★★☆
Characters: ★★★★★
World-Building: ★★★☆☆

scenes of physical and sexual abuse, scenes of violence, torture, and traumatic memories. This book is strictly recommended for readers who can bear to read these serious themes.

This will be particularly appealing to readers of dark fantasy who also enjoy deep character development with heavy, psychological turmoil. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy morally complicated characters and don't mind a heavier storyline, something on par with authors such as Sarah J. Maas or Leigh Bardugo.

If you are thinking.. mehh book 2 never measures up to book 1.. THINK AGAIN!

The Dragons Keeper finds us a short time after The Hourglass Keeper concludes.. so you feel as if no time is lost. You are not left grappling for unanswered questions, and loss of time and story...

EMOTIONAL:
I think this book might have broken me in the most beautiful and hopeful ways.. The emotional foreshadowing in book 1 (aka THK), has nothing on this book.. so many questions answered in honest and raw ways. Azahara is on a journey, that is evident in this book, you find yourself warring between the emotional bonds you held so tightly in THK and what you know and feel to be absolute truth in TDK.

PLOT:
I don't know how this author did it, but the plot line, while skillfully concluded (to a degree) in THK, continues with even more fervor and intrigue in TDK. You can't imagine things going any deeper.. lives getting any twistier, relationships getting anymore intertwined... but they do.

CHARACTERS:
We have our favorites.. and our mystery characters who make an appearance or who are central to the story line, but she introduces us to so many more.. who we love.. or hate.. just as much. This author builds a family so profound, woven together by circumstance to tightly, it truly is one of my absolute favorite parts of the story.. everyone has their own part to play and they do it so well. They are fierce and protective, loving and kind, hysterical and quippy, and forged together by circumstances that are out of control. Found Family is my favorite trope and this does not disappoint.

FANTASY ELEMENTS:
I know, I know.. when you see fantasy, you expect someone to drone on for endless chapters with world building, and scene setting, but again .. NOPE not this book, not this series really. The world building is impeccably done, and subtle, it doesn't play a central part to the story from the readers perspective, it is helpful and painted with beautiful imagery.. I can see the movie play out in my head and it is epic and brutal, lush and beautiful, and written in such a way, you don't even realize it until you arrive at another location and find yourself already knowing or anticipating what will happen, who they will meet.. etc. I don't say that to mean it is predictable.. because it is anything but.. only to say it is subtly done and skillful.

You hear people joke about books being their "Roman Empire" I believe this series will end up being mine.. but The Dragons Keeper has taken top spot - healing through hope.. I can not recommend this series enough.. 100 /10 recommend - it will be this years must read dark romantasy series.

Before I say anything, PAY HEED TO THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!! This book has some very dark, serious content!!

I didn’t think it was possible to top The Hourglass Keeper (Book 1 of the Keeper Series) but Mrs Burns has outdone herself with this novel, taking you on yet another emotional rollercoaster.

This book will answer the questions you had been left with from The Hourglass Keeper while keeping the suspense going to the very last page.

We follow Azahara as she continues to try to break the curse cast upon her by the evil god, Goddrick, who has aptly been nicknamed GodDick. His curse causes her to live forever and he tortures her in every disgusting way he can. She has suffered more heartbreak and agony than any person should ever face. Through ML’s captivating story telling, we are not left in the dark to any of the atrocities brought upon her.

In this segment of the Keeper Series, Azahara sets out on what starts as a self-sabotaging journey but she soon finds her strength thru a new found family. Within the story, she finds new magical beings and powers that she was unaware she had. She finds love, friendship, and clarity.

In true ML fashion, your heart is going to be put thru the wringer again, as you will experience all of Azahara’s pain, love, and laughter. This book is full of banter, magic, some spice, and epic adventure. Again….please, please read the trigger warnings because ML has eluded her readers into all of the tragedies inflicted upon our Aza. The things that are done to her are very dark! The stuff that nightmares are made from. But know, the entire book isn’t dark, there are parts that will have you swooning and laughing.

I’m anxiously awaiting book three because the last few pages absolutely broke me. I was not in anyway expecting what she threw at me.

I received an arc copy in exchange for my honest review and most likely my soul, as she owns that as well after this book.

The Dragon’s Keeper is the second installment in the Keeper’s series, and somehow!!! it’s even better than the first! I don’t know how Mel does it, but she had me completely hooked from page one. We pick up right after the Battle at Sunfall and... THAT ENDING?! I’m still recovering. No spoilers here, but let’s just say The Hourglass Keeper left me gasping.

Azahara, our fierce and heart-wrenching FMC, is a shadow of her former self, and it absolutely broke me. She’s walked this world for over 500 years, carrying unimaginable pain and heartbreak, and yet she still manages to hold onto her compassion—and her sharp sense of humor. I adore her. She’s one of the strongest, most compelling female leads I’ve read in a long time.

Azahara’s journey to save the ones she loves and break the curse that binds her is full of heartbreak, danger, and grit. Trigger warning: this is a dark fantasy with some heavy themes, so please make sure to check content warnings beforehand.

Then there’s Jayce... oh my heart. The man defines loyalty. I fell for him just as hard as I did for Azahara.

This story is full of found family, adventure, and rich worldbuilding. Mel’s writing completely immersed me. I could see every location, feel every emotion, and connect deeply with both main and side characters. Her storytelling is vivid and cinematic. I was so pulled in that real life didn’t stand a chance.

If you're craving an emotional, character-driven fantasy with depth, darkness, and unforgettable characters, this is it. I’m completely obsessed and counting down the days until the next book!

5 stars just does NOT seem enough for this book. It was amazing!! I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC and am so grateful for it! This book was everything, I am completely obsessed!

Following on from The Hourglass Keeper, the story takes us on to new adventures and introduces us to more new characters that you will absolutely fall in love with. Trust me! This book has everything you could possibly want from a dark fantasy, and again, I have lost many hours of sleep as it just completely consumed me.

Now, this is quite a lot darker than the first book in the series, so I would highly recommend checking out the trigger warnings! But wow. The hardships Azahara has to face in this is heartbreaking in places, but the strength & resilience she shows is amazing. The author's ability to write found family & create depth to each of her characters just blows me away. I am so emotionally invested & attached to all of them and think about them constantly. The story will have you guessing the whole way through & I loved the twists & turns it took & the truths that were uncovered in this one!

I have been through every emotion under the sun with this book, and it is so beautifully written. You can really see & feel the love that has gone into it. This is now a 'Roman Empire' book for me for sure & I recommend EVERYONE needs to read & experience this book at least once!

A dark fantasy romance that is heartbreaking yet, healing at the same time. This deserves so much more hype and praise!!!!

This picks up right where book 1, the hourglass keeper, left off. We get introduced to new characters, new places & an epic adventure. But, at the heart of it all is a devastated Azahara. Her pain, heartbreak and devastation bleeds off the page making you feel every bit of soul crushing pain she feels. Then there’s Jayce, the captain of the kings guard, whose intentions and motivations remain unclear…. until they aren’t.

The found family in this will feel like a hug for your brain. That is the only way I can describe the way Mel writes a family where every character has a unique role and personality that makes them stand out. You will love every character in this and go through every emotion under the sun while reading this. and the villain? You will viscerally hate them with your whole being. No one writes a detestable villain like M.L Burns, and the keepers series is no exception!!

This is quite a bit darker than book 1 so check your TW, but this is a story steeped in heartbreak,
guilt and trauma intertwined with healing, acceptance and strength. There is also a few chapters in here that give similar feelings to chapter 54 in ACOTAR, but so much better!!

In book two of The Keepers series, Azahara continues to fight for her freedom from a possessive god. She has a new quest, but she leaves her friends at home to take a ship on another journey. She has connections to the ship's new captain, but doesn't know any of the crew members, except for one surprise from her past. Azahara quickly makes new friends and allies as she embarks on her journey, but there are devastating consequences related to her past. To me book 2 read very much like book one. There were the same fantasy tropes and more romance, although this time around Azarahar's romantic interest was more complicated. Anyone that loved book 1, should also love book 2. However, now that Azahara has her memories back, there is a lot of trauma for her to work through. She also endures even more in this book, and the trauma is now in real time. If you have triggers, I would definitely look into this before reading the book. The book ends with a bang and a cliff hanger to leave the reader dangling until book 3. Because I don't love how the romance plays out and once again I felt the book dragged in the middle, The Dragons Keeper is 4 stars for me. However, overall, well-written and enjoyable.

The Dragon’s Keeper, the second book in The Keeper Series, completely blew me away. Azahara’s journey to the Isle of Ilkiz is darker, more emotional, and somehow even more addictive than the first book. She’s fighting to break her curse, but along the way, she faces nonstop heartbreak, betrayal, and challenges that had me on edge the entire time 😩🖤

Azahara is such an incredible FMC —she’s strong, relatable, and just keeps fighting no matter what life throws at her. Her bond with the dragons is so fascinating, and we get to see even more of their history and culture, which only pulls you deeper into this magical world. And then there’s Jayce. OMG, JAYCE. He’s officially my new favorite book boyfriend—his love for Azahara is so pure, and “the star” moment had me SOBBING 😭🩷

This book is packed with twists, action, and emotions that hit hard. It’s darker than the first one (check the trigger warnings!), but it also has amazing moments of healing and found family that balance it out perfectly. The ending? Total cliffhanger. I need the next book ASAP.

If you’re into dark romantasy with dragons, action, and heartbreak (think Throne of Glass vibes), this series is for you. M.L. Burns has created something unforgettable, and I’m completely obsessed 🙌🏻✨

The first about third of the book makes no sense and that almost made me dnf it. It gets better later on, thankfully

It's definitely less polished than the first part, the supporting characters' motivations being unrealistic and fickle, many things happening just so the heroine can be put in a particular situation but not really relevant to the story or world. The "dark" and "heavy" part this time is not spread out throughout the book, but concentrated in a few chapters, clearly marked as such. This didn't feel justified to me, those chapters were really traumatic and I would have preferred a spread of more, but lesser horrors happening throughout the book, as in the first one

A (mostly) positive part was the healing-from-trauma arc that the heroine experience after that. It felt somewhat rushed, but other than that really liked how gradual it had been and how safe she was in the process

The final fight was disappointing on almost all fronts and resolved nothing and for that reason I won't be reaching out for the next books. I'm satisfied knowing that one way or another there will be a happy end and don't feel like subjecting myself to a book that is likely even less coherent

This should have 1000s of reviews! This is such an incredibly underrated fantasy romance series! It will eventually be a why choose series. The story is about our FMC Azahara who is cursed by an obsessive God for the last 500 years for rejecting him! He makes her forget her previous year, every single year. This book picks up where Aza is working with new found friends that are trying to help her rid herself of the Goddrick curse! This is an adventure based fantasy novel with quite a few tribulations along the way. Our MMCs Kaed, the half elf bound to the kingdom is not in a great way for now. Jayce is with Aza and helping her heal and thrive as much as possible! The story dives into curses, love, emotional attachment to more than one person, patient healing and understanding, tension, yearning, fantastical creatures, twists and turns. I am not sure what else someone could want! Book 1 was a slower paced- world building, heavy character backstory builder book. This book really exudes confidence from the author and the characters. Excited for the novella from Jayce's POV next!!

Wow. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions. I was not prepared, neither was my heart, for this epic journey further into the world of The Keeper series. I truly & honestly adored this book.

The book has you crying, sobbing, laughing, and overall loving it. It makes your heart soar, makes your heart crack, crumples it into a tiny ball and stomps all over it.

It is a beautifully and wonderfully written dark romantasy. Our badass FMC, Azahara… we love her, as she continues her journey to escape being under Goddrick’s thumb, and her journey further into embracing herself.

I can’t say enough phenomenal things about this book. It broke me, it healed me, it made my heart full… bravo. This was an immersive experience, and it isn’t often that a book affects me so deeply. This is my top read of
2024 & I don’t say that lightly.
