"Lisa Kessler is an up and coming author to remember!" - Sherrilyn Kenyon #1 NYT Bestselling Author of the Dark-Hunter Series
Sometimes the only way to heal is to love...
When Colin Flynn returns home to Ireland, the immortal Night Walker is not the protector he had once been. Although his flesh has healed, the scars hide a broken spirit.
Juliana Duffy is a survivor. She owns a florist shop and continues to play piano in spite of her deafness. Her prophetic dreams warn her of coming death and show her the faces of two men: one a customer and one a handsome stranger.
After hearing her music, Colin finds himself drawn to this woman who refuses to be defined by her injury. As an ancient enemy emerges and threatens her safety, Colin will need to learn Juliana's secret to overcome his wounds, and regain his strength.
But falling for a mortal could be the greatest risk of all...

A novella in the Night series that you wish were a full novel! Colin and Juliana are, by far, my favorite couple to grace the pages of these books. This story is a wonderful filler while we eagerly await the release of the next in the series, Night Child. Kessler, you've done it again! Well done!!
From what I can tell, this novella was written due to fans asking for a specific character’s story and HEA. I thought that was pretty great that the author gave her fans what they had been wanting. Unfortunately, I still haven’t read all of the books, but it didn’t hurt the read for me at all.
Set in Ireland, this novella tells the story of Juliana, a deaf florist, and Colin, a Night Walker that has just returned home to Ireland. Night Walkers are not vampires, although they are immortal. They must drink blood to live, and they have an animal or bird that they shift to at will. Colin shifts to an eagle, although he was recently injured and part of his wing(arm)muscle is gone. He can no longer fly, and he is very depressed. He is informed that Benedict is back. Benedict is also immortal, and shape shifts to a sea horse of sorts-one that survives by eating women. Really fun guy to be around. Colin has made it his mission to stop Benedict for good, as he considers himself a protector of his part of the world.
Colin meets Juliana in a pub, after he sees her play the piano. He can’t believe that she plays even though she is deaf. He decides he wants to learn her secret of not being depressed by her deafness, and how she was able to rise above it. What he doesn’t know is that Benedict is also an admirer of Juliana, and has plans for her as well.
This was a sweet romance, but it was also a bit of a thriller. Benedict was a well written villain, and he has as big a part to play as Colin does in this read. Or pretty close anyway. I enjoyed the characters of Juliana and Colin a lot. Since it is a short read, of course the romance happens really fast, and since I usually don’t necessarily enjoy insta-love, I had to go with it. And that was fine in this case.
Lisa Kessler always writes good books that are romantic and paranormal-two of my favorite things in a read. The Night Walker series fulfills my love of both shifters and vampires-although each Night Walker stresses that he is NOT a vampire. Drinks blood to live-yep that describes a vampire, but since he shifts to an animal, well that makes for a different sort of creature altogether. I have enjoyed all of the books that I have read up to this point and recommend them to adult paranormal romance fans.(RabidReads.com)
Well what can I say . Lisa you did it again this novella has Colin coming home to Ireland after being wounded, he is broken . Until Juliana comes into his life . Not going to say more . But they deserve the happy ending . I love the whole series . The mix of Irish lore and everyday life is well written and I learnt something, I can't wait for the next installmentt . Way to go Lisa
What a great story well written with passion and very compelling with the handicaps they both had Juliana was able to build up Colin spirits for him to overcome that he was no lesser of a person would highly recommend so glad the had their happy ever after :)
"Sometimes the only way to heal is to love" This novella is a testament of the healing power of love.
Colin is one of the four original Mayan gods, Night Walkers, who were created to keep balance in the Universe alongside mankind. He was gravely injured in a battle with the Demon Camalotz in Night Demon, the previous book. While its true Night Walkers can heal any injury they are unable to regenerate missing tissue or other body parts. Due to the injury to his arm he is no longer able to connect to his spirit animal and fly with his hawk like he used to which leaves a larger, darker injury to his spirit. One of Colin's biggest issues is his fear that he will no longer be able to protect those who rely on him when he is no longer able to fly. He is struggling with feelings of inadequacy, something he has never before encountered and has no frame of reference for. He doesn't understand how he can continue to be himself when he has lost touch with a vital part of himself.
Colin hears Juliana Duffy playing the piano in The Bridled Pony just after his return to Ireland. He is immediately enchanted by the beautiful music she plays. Once he finds out that she is deaf he cannot help but be curious - how is this beautiful woman whose dream was taken from her by an injury still play the piano? How is she not bitter and angry at the world because of the injustice of it all? He is truly bewildered by her acceptance of her fate and decides to spend time with Juliana, hoping to learn how to reconcile himself to his situation as she has to her own.
The connection between Colin and Juliana is immediate and powerful and a true pleasure to read as it opens between them. The sorrow in Colin's soul calls to Juliana who feels compelled to help heal him, to provide solace and comfort as he battles his own personal demons. The passion between them is explosive but there is also respect, admiration and tenderness as well as a deep-seated need in each of them to protect the other. These two are wonderful together!
I am really enjoying this series and I am thrilled that Ms. Kessler is writing more books. I am so excited for Night Child !
Well I must say can't get enough of this author's books so when this was released ate it right up. She has the ability to transport you away, breathes life into her characters take you along on a adventure, then leave you well sated. Juliana works in a flower shop, doesn't due to a bombing that stole it. It also gave her something in its place though glimpses of the future in her sleep. Lately it has been changing on how it is revealed which she will learn all in due time. She has one odd very charming customer Benedict who also appears in her dreams. Later at her cousin's pub while she is playing piano another face from her dreams crosses her path Colin. Colin she is attracted to and the same could be said for him also. She will be caught up in the middle of these two- one who will want to protect her and one who will want to own her. She also has something else interesting a Celtic necklace she wears at all times that has a great meaning and us the reader will come to learn it's significance in the story. Now these two men are not your average Joe's too. They are unique in there own way but only one is good at heart. The joy of reading this is discovering who and what they are and one of them will also pull on your heart strings. What can heal a bitter angry man who thinks he is damaged not able to do what was? The love of a awesome woman who pierces straight to the core. Love is a great healer and can overcome many barriers. So go along with this author and her ability to heat it up also with this read thrilled to the bone you will be and left well sated when finished.
Another fantastic story from one of my favorite authors. In this novella set in the Night world we see Colin, now a biter and broken man unable to cope with his lose of flight from the battle in book 2 of the series Night Demon. When he returns to Ireland he meets Juliana who is deaf with the gift of prophecy. Through her he thinks he can finally find the way to overcome his disability. But an ancient evil has returned and threatens to destroy the life and love that is beginning between Colin and Juliana. They must rely on each other and for Colin to get past the pain and bitterness of his disability to defeat their enemy and be together. This is a beautiful short story of a broken man and the woman who finally heals him. I loved the characters and the story and really hope to see more of them in the future. Lisa has a way of writing that draws you into the world she has created. You feel all the emotions of the characters she writes and live their battles right along with them. While this could be a standalone, I highly recommend you read the rest of the series from the beginning. It is one of the best PNR series I have read.
In Night Demon, the second novel of Lisa Kessler's Night Series, we saw one of her unforgettable characters, Colin Flynn, God of the South, lose his ability to fly as his spirit animal, a hawk, after the Night Demon destroyed the muscle in his arm. Now Colin has returned to Belfast a bitter man. The hawk inside is begging to be set free and he can't get over his new disability. He meets Juliana, a deaf girl with a gift for prophecy, and he thinks he can find the secret to overcoming his disability through her strength. But an old enemy had returned and he could destroy Colin and Juliana's life together before it's even begun.
Night Angel is a very quick, very deep read. You don't have to bea fan of bloodsucking immortals with great bodies to enjoy this aside from her undeadly series. Like Beg Me To Slay, Night Angel is a story with a deeper meaning, about overcoming one's disability to be the best person that he/she can possibly be.
Great story from a great writer. Longtime fans and new readers alike will sink their teeth into Night Angel!
Night Angel is a novella in the Night Series by Lisa Kessler. I could not put it down. It takes place just after Night Demon.
Colin - Night Walker and God of the South had his upper left arm damaged by the Demon while in the Yucatan fighting him. He returned to his home in Ireland to not only recoup but to get a handle on his feelings.
Centuries ago when he first settled in Ireland he fought a Water-horse called an Aughisky. While in human form he is called Benedict.
Juliana Duffy - Is a woman who runs a florist. She lost her hearing years ago in a bombing, but can read lips. Juliana also has prophetic dreams. She had dreamed of both Colin & Benedict before she even saw them. Also in this dream she heard a Banshee wail.
Colin is intrigued by how Juliana has coped with her loss of hearing and hope he can find out how she overcame the bitterness so he can.
Benedict wants Juliana and despises Colin.
Who will win the love of Juliana?
If you are intrigued by this snippet I have shared, please read Night Angel to see what happens between these 3 people.
This is the first book of the series that I've read and can be read as a standalone.
Colin returns to Ireland injured and feeling sorry for himself. He meets Juliana, who is deaf due to an incident in her past. Despite her loss of hearing, she continues to play the piano because it makes her happy to "hear" the music through the vibrations. Colin is determined to find out how she was able to move forward with her life after such a loss, convinced it will help him heal and move on.
In her dreams, Juliana sees two men, Benedict, a customer from her flower shop, and a stranger who ends up being Colin. She knows that their lives are intertwined and that there is danger for at least one of them. Benedict and Colin have been enemies for centuries, but now Benedict wants Colin gone and will do anything in his power to destroy him.
I really enjoyed the novella, I must got back to read the first books in the series before the next book, Night Child is released.
This book was received as a gift in exchange for an honest review.
I was given this book as a gift and so thankful for it. I absolutely loved it! Lisa Kessler has done it again!
I fell in love with Colin when I met him in book 2, Night Demon. He is the God of the South and the red tailed hawk is his spirit animal. He was attacked by a demon and he lost his ability to fly. He returns to Ireland a broken man. He meets Juliana, who is deaf from a bombing, while she is playing piano in the local pub. Evil has come to Belfast and Colin is out to get rid of it.
This is a great story of overcoming odds and making the most out of life. I love this story and so wanted to cry when it ended. It was a great story to read while impatiently waiting for the release of Night Child.
Oh Wow!!! I loved this book!!! Me being disable, aloud me to see this story as one that says, don't let it stop you from doing what you want. Lisa took a lesson, and put it into a very exciting adventure! This story is full of excitement, passion, and the beauty of unconditional love between two!! The action and adventure of the one women that is wanted by two men and what they would go through to win her. Don't miss out on this book, its a great and very important part of "Night Series" Happy reading and writing* Teresa
Even though it was just a novella, I fell in love with the characters' story in this book! I loved Juliana and Colin and how he finds strength in the courage she's shown to overcome her deafness. He can "speak" to her in a way no one has before and she is drawn to him. An ancient evil is lurking around them and they need to trust and depend on each other to face it. Can't wait for the next book in the series!
Oh my is that Colin one sexy Night Walker. So glad he got his own story.Loved the Irish twist.Juliana is his perfect mate. Was surprised by the water horse. Benidict was the perfect villain. Colin was struggling to accept his handicap till he met Juliana. She taught him how to graciously accept himself for the way he was. She taught him inner peace.Yes She is one Foxy Lady! Colin learns to soar again in a different way. I give this book 5*****.From a Lisa Kessler Fan...Pam James.
I enjoyed this novella. It is about Colin a Mayan vampire god, and Julianna, who is deaf and is visited by a banshee is her dreams. Benedict and aughisky is their nemisis. He tries to take Julianna, and tries to kill her. Colin saves Julianna, but she must become a vampire also. Colin also is called a Night Walker. He is injured, and believes that he cannot help anyone, until Julianne convinces him otherwise. I am going to start reading the Night series next.
Night Angel is the first story by Lisa Kessler that I've read. Even though it was not the first one in the series, it holds its own. I finished reading it and was left with the need to read the rest of this series. I love the characters and found bits and pieces of them that I could identify with. I'm ready to meet the other characters and want to read more from Lisa.
I really like that Colin travels back to Ireland.:)I have never visited there but I really want to.A mytical and Magical place for sure.I´m glad Colin got his HEA!<3 He truly deserved it!My heart broke for him!Thank you,Lisa!Five stars without any doubt!Actually more than five stars!
Really loved this story. I devoured it in one night....Colin and Juliana's story instantly pulled me in. If you're looking for a fast-paced read filled with adventure, and a Happy Ending that will leave you sighing, then this book is for you!
I loved this book. In Night Angel Lisa Kessler touches on the idea of learning to live with disabilities that can change our lives forever. Colin and Juliana help each other. The entire Night Series has been mesmerising. If you love Paranormal Romance you will love this series.
If you're a rabid Night series fan like I am, you probably have realized that this novella is the last hurrah before the final book, NIGHT CHILD. Which makes it a little bit of a bittersweet read. I've liked Colin all along so I was hoping he'd find his mate and Juliana is a wonderful one, but I also hated how rushed it felt.
When a bombing left Juliana deaf she had to learn how to keep going even though she could no longer hear the music she so loved to play. But she's been having visions of two mysterious men who've recently come into her life with no way to understand just what they mean. For one of them poses a deadly threat... while the other threatens to win her heart. In Juliana, Colin finds a strength to overcome he needs after his injury in NIGHT DEMON and so much more.
The only reason I couldn't rate this read a five is that it was too short and felt rushed. Colin was one of my favorite characters from the start—a hot Irish guy who turns into a hawk? Awesome!—and so I kind of wanted just a little bit more time spent on him. That aside this was such a good story. Kessler is so creative and fresh in a genre so easily slapped together at times that I feel she's the most under-noticed talents writing paranormal romance. NIGHT ANGEL does a great job of getting Colin ready for the conclusion of the series and I'm quite honestly dreading the end.
Not a good one to read as a stand-alone but also one I would not recommend skipping before reading NIGHT CHILD either. This is a pivot point for the series that is not to be missed. If you love romances where there's a physical or emotional (or both) element to the romance you will love Colin and Juliana's story.
Colin Flynn’s scars run deep. They not only mar his flesh, but have marked his soul and broken his spirit. Returning to Ireland to try and find a way to heal, Colin finds himself searching for anything to help him move past his pain. When he meets Juliana Duffy he thinks she may have the answers he is looking for to start the healing process…
I just loved Colin and Juliana. Lisa Kessler has once again created characters that make you feel every emotion and struggle right along with them. Colin’s inability to move past his injury was heart-wrenching, but you felt that the spark of his spirit was still alive as he looked for a way to move past all that he had lost. Juliana was everything I love in a heroine – strong, willing to do whatever it takes to protect those that she loves, and smart enough to know her limitations. Although she too has suffered loss, she has found a way to move past it, accepting all in her life that she cannot change.
Although this was only a novella in length, the pages are filled with a wonderful love story that had me captivated from the first page. The only complaint I have is that I would have loved to have had more detail regarding the rivalry between Colin, the Night Walker, and Benedict, the Water Horse – I think there was probably a wonderful back story to the history that is alluded to in the book, and I can only imagine what story could have been told in a full length novel. Don’t get me wrong, this book was wonderful – so wonderful that I just want more! Thank you Lisa Kessler for crafting a story that had me living and riding the emotions right along with your characters.
This was a captivating addition to Lisa's Night Walker series! Night Walkers aren't vampires though they share some of the same characteristics as well as being Mayan gods AND shifters. All of her Night Walkers stories ROCK!
Night Angel is Colin's and Juliana's story. I'm so glad that Colin has gotten his own story, a tale of healing and love. Colin is our classic tortured hero having returned to Ireland a broken man after an altercation with a night demon. Juliana confuses and inspires him; She's a deaf pianist who is magically gifted and thriving despite the adversities she's suffered. He cannot understand how her disability has not disheartened her as his has him. The mystic emerald isle's idyllic peacefulness provides the perfect setting for the tale. When the picturesque landscape is disturbed by a sinister mythical villain who is preying on the villagers, Colin must find a way to stop him and save Juliana.
I was absolutely enthralled with the chemistry between Colin and Juliana... sexy, sweet and very romantic. Juliana is a very strong, independent woman and I greatly admired her spirit. Colin's despair was palpable as he felt helpless and a fraction of what he had been; My heart went out to him. The Celtic links enhanced the mystery and mystique. Lisa's writing just flows and she engages the reader with every word.
I would highly recommend this story - and all of the Night Walker books - to anyone who loves paranormal romances. Lisa's books are all must-reads for me.
Amen! I am so happy that Lisa wrote Colin's story! She just keeps getting better and better with every book she writes. I Love her crisp, clear, and simply sexilicious writing style.
When Colin returns home, a broken version of his former self—he meets a beautiful young lady, with issues of her own and the story soars until an evil enemy's true nature steps into the picture and turns the story down one hellacious path—causing a twisted journey of events that are terrifying and horrific at times.
I don't want say anymore, because I do not like nor use spoilers, as they can ruin a book for others.
I recommend this series to those 18+ who enjoy some steam with their paranormal romance.
I LOVE THIS INSTALLMENT!
Lisa Kessler's Night Series #1 Night Walker #1.5 Night Thief (novella) #2 Night Demon #2.5 Night Angel # 3 Night Child - coming April 28, 2014
When I started this book I didn’t realize that this was not the first book in the series. That being said, it works just fine as a stand alone. I will be reading book one next.
This book is about Colin & Julianna. Colin is the God of the South & he has been injured & his spirit animal (a red tailed hawk) can no longer fly. He is deeply depressed because of this disability & is unsure how he can go on like he is. He meets Julianna, who lost her hearing in a bomb blast in Belfast, but still plays the piano like a virtuoso. Even being deaf, Julianna lives life to the fullest. Colin wants to learn from Julianna how to do the same. Unfortunately there is a problem, Benedict, who is an aughisky & his ancient enemy. And so the battle begins…
This was a quick read & a wonderful story. I look forward to reading the rest of this series but I think I will now start from the beginning.
Juliana Duffy had been a piano prodigy until she went deaf from a bomb - but, this does not stop her from hearing the cry of the Banshee. She still plays the piano in her cousin's pub in Ireland as she can fell the vibration when she does. As well as works in a florist shop.
Benedict comes into the shop to buy red roses, or so it seems, but is he really what he claims to be?
Colin Flynn, an injured hawk shifter, returns to his family estate to protect the humans living there.
i loved this book. it had all of the elements that i look for in a paranormal. the characters were intriguing and had depth and drew me into the story effortlessly. i found my self becoming angry, sad, happy and all the other emotions right along with the hero. i am already planning to read it again just in case i missed anything and i can't WAIT fot the next book in the series if there is one so i can find out what happens with them next not to mention some of the other characters that have their own stories to tell.
This is a riveting novella in the Night series that tugs at the heart. The author has created a fantastic series of immortal beings with her own unique touches that spice things up and the captivating characters really reach out and grab the reader ensuring that they want to know everything about them. While I wish Colin’s story had been a little longer, the story packed quite a punch and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.
Lisa writes a story like no other! Her Nightwalker world is definitely one of a kind! I was thrilled Colin got his own book and Juliana was the PERFECT match for him. Her story is very touching and she helps Colin open his eyes and accept the things he cannot change. I want to say they are my favorite couple, but to be completely honest I love all the characters in this whole series equally! It's a definite must read!!
This one started a little slow then just as I was getting into it - bam! - it was action all the way, right until the very end! Lisa managed to pack a lot into this little novella and I was really happy to see Colin getting a chance to shine before the final part of the trilogy comes out in Night Child!
I really like Lisa's take on the paranormal, the mythology is always interesting and the characters fully developed. The books are worth a read and the covers, droolworthy!
