A sizzling neighbors-to-lovers romantic comedy about two strangers who waited until their final minutes to act on their feelings…and then lived. Awkward.
Emergency Alert: Ballistic threat inbound to DC. Valeria Fuentes and Lander Dawson have fifteen minutes left to live. One last chance to tie up loose ends and live out their wildest dreams. So…they screw each other’s brains out, naturally.
Except Valeria and Lander are strangers. This headstrong camgirl and hotshot lawyer may be neighbors, but they’ve barely spoken. Tonight, it doesn’t matter. Going out with a bang (literally) is the perfect ending…until they learn the emergency alert was a mistake.
Now, neither can forget their scorching hot hookup. Valeria wants to pretend it never happened. There’s no future for a guy trying to make partner at a prestigious firm and a girl who performs for strangers every night…
But Lander disagrees. And he’ll do whatever it takes to prove he doesn’t just support Valeria’s lifestyle—he loves it.
Rebecca Kinkade is a Mexican/Filipina-American contemporary romance author who writes competent leads who work hard and love harder. She currently lives in Los Angeles and assumes that makes her inherently interesting. She has a BA and an MBA and is 100% positive that the most valuable thing she got out of those experiences was content for her books.
Valeria, a camgirl trying hard to separate herself from her controlling father finally speaks to Lander, her attractive neighbor one night. 20 minutes later, they receive an alert that a missile is headed right where they live in Washington, D.C. Valeria goes to Lander's condo and proposes they have sex, after which they receive an update that the alert had been sent in error.
Valeria tries really hard to stay away from Lander, especially when she finds out he's a lawyer like her father and her father's lackey who has tried hard to ruin her life since she won't date him. However, Lander doesn't back down, and Valeria quickly realizes that not only is Lander willing to risk it all for her, he is also extremely supportive of her camming career—to the tune of tens of thousands, since he'd been her most supportive viewer for a year.
Streams and Schemes was genuinely so funny, I had such a fun time reading this! To be honest, I was a little put off by Lander being a supporter of Valeria's, just because I worried that he would be fetishizing or idealizing who Valeria was. However, I felt like Rebecca Kinkade did a great job of not only making Lander seem genuine and decent, she somehow made him not seem like a creep. Which was impressive, because I still think that behavior—engaging in a sexual relationship with someone you've secretly been watching and giving money to—is strange. LOL.
I think that the will-they-won't-they was too…extended for me. It was inevitable that they were going to end up together, so Valeria saying no and sending mixed signals and Lander pushing back against Valeria's no's simply took place for far too long and it got to a point where I was almost uncomfortable about it? Not because I was triggered, but because I was worn thin over the sheer length of time it took them to be like, "okay, we're in this for good."
The conflicts in this book are pretty much non-issues for us normal folks, but for people who grow up in privilege and excess, their conflicts were very real and crushing. In a broader sense, this was a book about familial relationships and the expectations adult children put on themselves to be what their parents want. It is also a wonderful display of chosen family. There is even important commentary about what it means to be a Mexican immigrant in America, and the cultural expectations for women within Latinidad that can be crushing. I think that Kinkade did a good job making these characters sympathetic enough to root for/care about. The spice was entertaining and hot, and I very much enjoyed that Lander kept giving Valeria money because I'm so tired of books where the MMC is trying to drop a bag and the FMC says they're fine with just a coin purse!!!!
Overall, I really enjoyed the writing style and look forward to the friends' books!
Rating: 5/5 POV: 1st; dual Tropes: Neighbors to Lovers; Found Family; Erotica Romance; Interracial Relationship; Cinnamon-role MMC; RomCom Heat Level: Erotica 🥵🔥 Kinks:Breeding; Praise; lots of sex toys; Butt Stuff; Filming
Likes: *Now this is how you do an erotica romance! Great plot with pages and pages of sex 😂 *Both MCs are in their 20s and they are more put together than I am at my old age of 30s, lol *I really love the Neighbors to Lovers trope * The drama in the plot made sense and added to the plot in a positive way
Dislikes: * It did feel like it took the FMC just a tad too long to give in to the MMC regarding dating
Conclusion: *sigh* This was so good. I had a big smile on my face as I was finishing up the epilogues. I’m so glad I somehow came across this book.
If you are not shy to sex scenes and enjoy erotica and reading about different kinks, etc then I highly recommend this for you.
The plot is fantastic -the MMC has been practicing Law for 4 years and is close to becoming Partner because of his extremely hard work and some nepotism. The FMC is a college dropout (sort of) and has been working as a camgirl (think onlyfans) full time for 3 years. She gets paid extremely well doing this and is able to afford to buy her own apartment.. which is next door to the MMC! The book starts at them having already been living next door to one another for 1 year so they’ve seen one another around and mutually find each other attractive (neither knows this). A hilarious mishap happens which throws them in bed (couch) with one another before they *gasp* die, lol. They obviously don’t die and then starts the story of how the MMC gets the FMC to actually date him, lol. Then there’s drama, sex, more drama, more sex, etc. and it’s so good! 😌
I plan to purchase the ebook (I read it on KU) and I would reread this!
FC is a camgirl, MMC a lawyer next door who watches. She's a streamer, he a schemer(thus title). They seem opposites but both are dealing with dominating father figures. But after much spice, they come up with scheme to free themselves, although there's a contradiction in the plot.
4.5 ⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. Wow! Such a fun steamy read! I am someone who loves a sex worker romance so going into this I was so excited. It delivered on pretty much every level! I definitely suggest to read the tropes and make sure it's something you're into because the breeding kink is a HUGE part of this book. Valeria is a camgirl and Lander is her old-money lawyer neighbor. They've been lusting after one another for months but finally hook up when they think they have 20 minutes left to live. The banter and lead up in this book is so fun and I really enjoyed it! The spice is really strong in this book so beware if you wouldn't enjoy that. I think my "issue" (if you could even call it that) is lack of plot sometimes. No spoilers obviously but sometimes the spice overtook an important plot point. Otherwise this is a fantastic book! I can't wait for possible Everett and Dalton books and i'm definitely going to be reading the rest of Rebecca Kinkade's books.
Y’all I can’t even express the amount of joy I felt when I was selected to read this Arc. I was already in love with it from all the tropes and I actually screamed when I received the email.
Now let’s talk about the book. The author absolutely ate this book up! From the beginning of it I was immediately hooked. Lander (The MMC) has “golden retriever” energy and I’m here for every second of it . I love me a man that feels like he can’t breathe when I’m not around him. Now for Valeria (The FMC)… Valeria babe I love you but I can’t lie that rule was lowkey pissing me off at the beginning (if yk yk) .Further down I understood why exactly my girl was standing on business as it relates to it but the way I wanted to grab her through my screen! Anyways the tension>>> ,the “🌶️🌶️” scenes, the book on a whole>>>.
This was a medium burn book with all the feels.. I loved the diversity of this book as well as how the characters where portrayed in this book. This book had a great plot, amazing characters (& friends) and alot of action.
Premise: Two strangers think the world is going to end in 15 minutes so they bang it out, only to find it out it was a false alarm. Oh, and they're also neighbours! 🤣
Full disclosure, I did find Valeria’s reactions annoying at times, but I grew to understand her POV so no marks deducted. On the other hand, Lander!! Omg, the perfect MMC from start to finish, I loved him more as the book went on.
The writing was so funny, the spice was spicing (whew), there were schemes and satisfying comeuppance in a non-OTT way... it ticked all my boxes.
Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4) stars Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (5) The Tumblr girlies would love this one (it's me I'm the Tumblr girlies).
There's so many things I loved about this book, but one that stands out the most is the friendships the main characters have. They're very solid and are just generally amazing people (both the guys and the girls)--they've had interactions within their own groups that genuinely made me smile. I would love to see them each have their own book.
This doesn't feel like a lot of other spicy books because the characters seem to have a bit more substance to them and any kind of conflict actually seems like it would legitimately happen rather than throw in some random miscommunication to tick the box.
The writing style fits the vibe of the book and, while there were one or two scenes where certain phrases were a little cringe, it does a significantly better job than a lot of other books that I've read. The writing flows well and suits the personalities of the characters and the overarching plot.
And the spice? Well, I think my rating would tell you how I feel about that. (But please do have a looksie at the content warnings in case particular things are or aren't up your alley).
Overall, loved this book. Now I'm off to go read all of the others. 🏃♀️
ok so tears were shed at the end of my re read. i love Lander and Valeria so much. TO BE LOVED IS TO BE SEEN!!!!!!!!! reread: 05/02/2025
first read: 03/16/2024 if Rebecca writes it, ima read it!
5/5★ 4/5🌶️
a cam girl and a lawyer falling in love is the book i didn’t know i needed. 😫 Val is strong-willed, confident asf, hilarious, and so much more than her job as a sex-worker. Lander is goofy, a little weird, extremely competent, & the complete opposite of the facade he puts on at work and with clients. Rebecca is so good at making her characters feel REAL and i always find myself missing them as soon as i’m done reading.
Lander & Val standing up for each other honestly had me squealing, the moments with their respective friend groups & altogether were hilarious (rlly hoping they get their own books too), the spicy scenes were hot asf (check content warnings to make sure they’re for you), and i genuinely loved the progression of their love. 🖤
if you’re looking for a book that has an MMC who literally worships the ground the FMC walks on, this is it!
trope list ✧˖°🎥📎⋆ ༘⚖️⋆ˏˋ✨°•*⁀➷ ♡ neighbors to lovers ♡ cam girl x lawyer ♡ found family ♡ latina FMC ♡ sex positive MMC ♡ super funny ♡ no third act break up
i am so honored to have been chosen to be one of the first readers for 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨 & 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙨 🥹 you can read it through Amazon/Kindle Unlimited now!
I will never be able to express adequately how much I love this book.
This book is a great example of a book with TONS of spice but still an amazing story and plot. I was GASPING at the end!!!!!
I feel like I didn’t actually like any of the male characters on their own at the beginning but I love all three of them inside their relationships by the end of the epilogue. I didn’t love how Lander schemed but somehow I did love that he was scheming in order to get closer to her?? I definitely loved who Landers had become by the end and I loved his friendship with Dalton and Everett. I did, however, love Valeria and her two besties from go. They are amazing and I’m obsessed with how each of them have their own special skill set that they all use together to improve their businesses.
This was a great story, 5/5 stars. But the SPICE!!! I had to put this book down THREE TIMES to stare off into space.
I am so glad I picked up this book. I am BEGGING for more books in this series. This book was SO. SO. GOOD.
I was gifted this book from a fellow bookstagramer and and I will be eternally grateful to her for introducing me to Rebecca’s work 😍😍😍
Make sure to read the author’s TW - seriously, read them. This book won’t be for everyone.
Okay now for the good stuff - ‘Streams and Schemes' is a SPICY, f*ck it we are all gonna die except they don’t because the government sent out a mistaken emergency alert, all around HOT story - but it is SO much more than that.
Valeria and Lander aren't perfect and they know it and accept each other’s imperfections. Some books pad out their pages with extra characters that feel unnecessary…but this one!!!! A group of friends that adds depth and charm and LITERALLY GIGGLES to the whole story. I mean we all have weird friends, this group takes the CAKEEEE!
I’m a sucker for interconnected standalone stories about chosen families and personal growth, and this book puts the focus just right on our MC’s relationship.
I picked up Streams and Schemes thinking I’d get a cute little spicy distraction. What I got was a full-blown hilarious, thirst-trap of a romcom with emotional damage and orgasms in equal measure.
The MMC, Lander, is a lawyer so down bad he makes Mr. Darcy look emotionally balanced. This man fell for a cam girl mid-doomsday panic and then kept spiralling in the best, horniest way possible even after the world didn’t actually end. Like sir, you survived a false doomsday and kept your fine ass willingly subscribed to her premium content with the same commitment people reserve for marriage vows? Obsessed.
And Valeria. Absolute icon. Ten out of ten. Would let her bankrupt me emotionally and financially.
Between the spicy scenes that had my Kindle overheating and the comedic timing that nearly killed me off, this book delivered chaos, charm, and carnal energy on every page.
In conclusion: If you’re looking for existential dread, catastrophic horniness, and a lawyer who treats gals spicy content like a sacred shrine, Streams and Schemes is for you.
These 2 are just horny in the best type of way. I could have done without the constant reference to Lender's blue eyes. Outside of that and maybe could have been 50-80 pages shorter I liked that the occupation was taken seriously. On page there was discussion about the time and effort it takes to create this fantasy for someone's pleasure. But I do think the author still had a tinge of respectability pointing out that Lander was the only one getting to rail Valeria. Either way its fiction it didn't have to be perfect because there were other things like found family, exploring desire, communicating your needs, and most importantly living the way that makes for you even if its taboo.

SWEATING. THIS BOOK HAS ME SWEATING. It was so incredibly good! OMG!!! I was completely enamored with this book and absolutely devoured it. It was delicious, it was nutritious, it was everything I wanted in a smutty read. Our MCs relationship, despite how hard the FMC made the MMC work at the top, was so incredibly wonderful. His constant support of her in her career was absolutely swoon-worthy and he had some true knight in shining armor moments which had me kicking my little toesies and giggling. I loved our strong and intelligent our FMC was, and absolutely adored her relationship with her two besties. I can't wait to hear their stories in the subsequent books! AND THAT SPICE. LORD HAVE MERCY. FIVE ALARM FIRE!!! It was sublime. This was such a great read!
Spicy, steamy, rom-com full of witty banter, steamy scenes, and heart felt moments
"You good, baby?"
"Let me be abundantly f*cking clear: I want all of you. Including this."
It's a bit of a rocky start to say the least, but through all the hurdles and resistance (mostly her) it's a well earned HEA. He wants her from first sight and dives in head first once he gets his opening.
How could he possibly want her? She's a cam girl. And why would should possible want him and finally give in all the way? He's a lawyer after all and she's not going to break her rules. - Valeria
"Scheme number five: Stop scheming." Once he gets his lawyer brain working towards evidence to prove his love, he makes his case, and wins her heart, body, and soul. - Lander
Lots of steamy, spice all along the way with both characters owning their sexuality and learning more along the way. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ With both their group of best friends causing trouble and helping along the way. Full of witty banter, steamy scenes, and heart felt moments as they find what they both want best in life - each other.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review
If you grabbed this book thinking its full steam & smut and nothing else, get ready, strap yourself in! 'Streams and Schemes' has so much more. Valeria and Lander aren't perfect and they know it and accept that from eachother. Unlike other books that may pad out their pages with extra characters, this one introduces a group of friends that adds depth and charm to the whole story. I mean we all have weird friends, this group takes the medal.
As someone who's a sucker for stories about chosen families and personal growth, this book puts the focus just right on their relationship.
Trust me, you won't be able to resist showing up for this crew!
PS. I asked for and received an ARC and I'm voluntarily leaving a review, with my own honest opinion in it.
please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. HEA: yes with extended epilogue short stories when you sign up for Rebecca’s newsletter! spice: tons of open-door spicy scenes TWs: attempted SA, slut shaming, misogyny, sexism, racism, neglectful/emotionally abusive parents, death of a parent (off page), cheating (not MCs), narcissistic parent, mentions of suicide (not MCs, off page), blackmail, divorce, assault TW Note: there is no cheating between the MCs but the FMC is a camgirl and continues her work after starting a relationship with the (very supportive) MMC standalone: yes, but there’s definitely potential for some follow up books in the same universe (pretty please Rebecca Kinkade??) final thoughts: HOLY MOLY!!! What a ride! This was such a great story filled with plenty of plot and tons of great spicy scenes. I love the sex positivity from the MCs and most of the supporting characters, the dynamics between the MCs once they finally get out of their heads and just go for it, and the character growth. This book (and its extended epilogues both within the book and from the newsletter!) has some of the hottest spicy scenes I’ve read and goes through an EXTENSIVE kink list that were all really well done. This was my first book from Rebecca Kinkade and I can’t wait to read more from her. Great mix of plot and smut, easy to read, medium-to-fast paced
read this book if you love
😬 angst 🏝️ forced proximity 🧠 “it’s always been you” ☠️ “touch her and die” 💞 neighbors-to-lovers 🔀 opposites attract 🧑🤝🧑 great side characters 👨👩👧👦 found family 😳 forbidden lovers 🤫 hidden secrets 🥰 nicknames 😂 romcom ⛓️ BDSM 🤩 curvy FMC
A rom com with a Cam girl and lawyer! Yeah this was everything and more. The growth and realization both characters experienced on their journeys on finding / what makes them happy was so nice and felt so real! I love love love the constant support Valeria and Lander gave each other and the way Lander supported / put her first in every aspect of his life! Lander was so down bad for her and I loveddd that he never let up!! *chefs kiss* The spice scenes, the streams, the schemes, were all so hot and perfect! The drama had me shook!!!!
The sisterhood / friendship between Valeria , Cora and Essie was so refreshing! They truly are ride or die type of friends! Same goes for the friendship between Lander, Dalton and Everett!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!& The Epilogue was so CUTE OMG my heart!!!!!
*READ THE WARNINGS* This book may or may not be for you, so please read those warnings and tropes.
A lovely steamy read! The author sure killed it with this book 🫠🤤
The dedication and notes had me right off from the start!! I couldn’t put it down and left me wanting more, and more. I never read anything of sex worker/camgirl romance but this is one that immediately captured my interest.
Loved how everyone came together and he loved her just the way she was. He was THE BIGGEST SUPPORTER and omg they both are meant for each other in every possible way.
Yes, I am excited and ready to start book 2. Like RIGHT NOW 🫶🏽
Received as an ARC in return for my honest review.
💵 Camgirl FMC ⚖️ Old money lawyer MMC 🎥 Live-streamed sexy times 🏘️ Neighbours to lovers 💕 Found family 👑 MMC is a sex positive king 👩🏽 FMC is a woman of colour 😜 Funny! 🌶️ Kink list - breeding, exhibitionism, somnophilia, spitting, DP with toys, choking, slapping, 🍑 fun and so much more
I bloody loved this. This was my first read and introduction into the world of Rebecca Kinkade and I am hooked I tell you.
This is how you write an FMC, Valeria was a badass independent woman who gave zero shits about other people’s judgement of her and what she chooses to do for a living and I ate it up! I just wish I had this much confidence 😂
Her and Lander worked so well together as a couple despite being very different. The story progression was well spaced and laid out with great introduction of side characters throughout. He learns Spanish for her for fucks sake 😫😫😫
I’m really excited to see what else is to come from Rebecca, I’ll be reading anything released from this point forward to be honest.
Well holy moly I thought I knew what I signed up for but I really didn’t…it was so much more 😍
I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC of this book (in exchange for an honest review) and let me tell you it didn’t disappoint!
FMC Valeria Fuentes is a cam girl who has one life rule…never date a lawyer! Enter her hilarious and handsome MMC Lander Dawson, he’s everything she could want…his one flaw? He’s a lawyer! 👀
Rules were made for breaking, right? 😜
The banter and one liners in this book had me in stitches. I actually found it super refreshing to have a MMC who was both hot as hell and hilarious.
Honestly this was such a fun read and the spice was literally on fire…seriously, it’s scortching! 🔥
I am so excited and appreciative that I received an ARC, and this is my honest review. This was the first book I’ve read by Rebecca, and I was not disappointed. This story follows Lander and Valeria who are neighbors that spend what they think is the last fifteen minutes of their lives together… and then, just kidding! The funny, cute, witty gems sprinkled throughout the book are everything.
Being Hispanic, it was great to read about a strong, independent Mexican FMC. And Lander with his touch her and die vibes? Yes, please! This story was unlike anything that I have previously read before. The plot kept throwing some unexpected curveballs, with it all being tied up so beautifully in the end. Rebecca did an amazing job of showing how family can be so much more than blood. Lander and Valeria each have two of the very best friends and the dynamics between the group are pure perfection.
If you love spice, found family, neighbors-to-lovers, banter, and did I mention spice?, then do yourself a favor and give this book a whirl!
I need the stories of Everett and Cora and Dalton and Essie, please!
these characters are a breath of fresh air! they matched each others FREAK and did not back down. the found family trope was so sweet to see 🥹 i loved how the plot + spicy scenes were perfectly woven together. finding out this author is mexican was the cherry on top! i enjoyed the exploration of machismo within the mfc’s family. cant recommend this one enough!!
Super excited to have received this arc. This is my first book by this author and it did not disappoint. The plot over all was good but still felt lacking in areas but the spice and chemistry make up for what I felt was missing in the plot. Also the fact they have sex in chapter 3 was amazing change from reading so many slow burns. Over all this book was well written and would definitely recommend.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I just finished my ARC of this book and oh my…. I read a lot of smutty books and this one takes the cake. The spice was well written and varied throughout the book. Some smutty books it feels like the spice is the same description in different locations but not this one. Beyond the sex there was a really great storyline of a woman who saves herself which I loved. If you’re looking for a book with decent spice and a female lead who takes control of her own life this is for you!
