I retired early from my career as a biotech exec to focus on my traditionally published American history books. All that changed when my 8-year-old grandson decided we should co-develop Dragons & Dinosaurs books!

I embarked on an extensive study of kidlit books for science fiction, fantasy, & action/adventure...probably reading 200 books, mostly from Amazon!

After studying under a Disney author and a preeminent kidlit editor, we launched Star Life Keepers, our family's first epic fantasy book, on 2/5/24. Amazingly, during the first month, it became a #1 Amazon Children's New Ebook Release for both Space Exploration & Time Travel.

Our books follow Brandson Sanderson's Evil Librarians model with extensive custom-made illustrations. I also used my military history experience to create sequential maps.

I'm now writing sci fi/fantasy books with 3 other grandkids. I also created StorymakingWithKids.com to provide insights for parents, grandparents, & educators who also want to use creative writing to engage hands-on with children.

Everything you’d want in a middle reader fantasy and more!

STAR LIFE KEEPERS is fantastic. Told in alternating POV’s between Jason, Elisa and Amanda, (3 cousins), readers are plunged into a world of dragons and dinosaurs with epic battles and quests for cures to save a dying queen and rescue two worlds in danger.

Action levels are high and so is the violence, on occasion. That’s the reason I deducted one star. I’d prefer a bit of tempering in the descriptions. On the other hand, world building is magnificent as are the various characters. Rick and Brady Williams, (grandfather and grandson author duo), include a listing of terms, characters and places at the back of the book for easy reference. I found it quite useful.

Throughout the book, readers are blessed with some stunning artwork. It looks like they are pencil and perhaps charcoal drawings of scenes from the story. They are amazing. No author is mentioned, credit is given to Prayan Animation Studio.

So many themes to be found in this story: family, loyalty, trust, honesty, friendship, serving others, and much more. At times I had feelings of Tolkien and others of Harry Potter. Quietly, in the background, were subtle gospel notes; just lovely.

These Brady boys know how to spin a yarn and keep the pages flying by; hairless flying monkeys ARE included📚

Love middle grade fantasies, or well thought out and detailed war scenes? Star Life Keepers has done both of them exceptionally well in the middle grade genre.

If you want an easy book for your children with many scenes of varied fantastical characters, they will love every other scene where a woman suddenly turns to a dragon, then takes Jason to meet her mother dragon. Then the dragon has five heads. Even more, she has a prophecy and a mission for him. Oh, the delicious climb and a child’s wide-eyed wonder. The kids love it.

It is NOT for those looking into time travel, science-heavy fiction or stand alone reads.

Time travel

Not sure what I was expecting from the title but this turned into a pretty good story. Definitely a good choice for younger readers as advertised. It follows the adventures of three young people with a goal in mind, and also their grandfather. There is a good cliffhanger at the end and then a short story showing an earlier time and filling in some details that help the reader with to know how things progressed to this point in time.

Always like to find a book to recommend to the tween reader. This is one that I think they will like. It has a creative plot, great kid characters, time travel, fantasy, lots of action and dragons. Everything to keep them interested.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.

Knights, dinosaurs, and sci-fi mesh perfectly in this multi-world fantasy about three cousins who travel through a portal to solve a family mystery. Highly imaginative and packed with lore, the story is co-written by the author’s thirteen-year-old grandson.
