When childhood reads take on a whole new level of awareness...

Why did Macdonald had a farm, which is past tense. The answer we will never know although could it possibly be he was old or that he had a flock of male mallards with no hens to offset them?

This version is colorful although leaning towards a darker palette and the artstyle more leaning towards vintage realism mixed with cartoonish as well as infactual portrayals. But what really made this book stand out were the details.

Besides the male flock of ducks a person is carting away one of the pigs while a poster on the next page talks about pork although so disjointed you can't read it. And on another page he is leading a cow away...

Unlike other versions, this one has a weird spelling for the refrain and halfway in the book choose to change the chorus portrayal so it can cobble everything at the end.

It was okay as a weird I Spy form but not for the actual book version it was meant to be.

I really enjoyed the illustrations but it didn’t follow how the song goes. It would do the full lines of the song and then partial ones.
