This newly repackaged Paddington board book will delight young fans as they learn about the bear from Peru and meet his friends.
It’s market day! Follow Paddington Bear to the Portobello Market and join him for a special treat with his friend Mr. Gruber. Told in simple rhyme and paired with R. W. Alley’s lively art, this board book is a great introduction to Paddington Bear for little ones.
Michael Bond, CBE was an English children's author. He was the creator of Paddington Bear and wrote about the adventures of a guinea pig named Olga da Polga, as well as the animated BBC TV series The Herbs. Bond also wrote culinary mystery stories for adults featuring Monsieur Pamplemousse and his faithful bloodhound, Pommes Frites.
This book begs re-reads! Short as it is, I don't think the spread "They have no time to stand and stare. They simply call, 'Good morning Bear," as it breaks Paddington's own hero narrative. But what a payoff to see those morning buns!
This is a short board book for young children who will be enchanted by the happy bear doing his shopping amongst the market traders that he knows so well. A bit young for me but I loved looking at all the lovely illustrations of that very cute bear going about his business!
This is a cute little board book that uses rhyme to tell about one of Paddington Bear's shopping excursions. I very much like the fact that the text rhymes: it gives the story a sing-songy quality that I think will appeal to young children.
The illustrations were good, but they were not quite to my taste. They were less crisp than I would have preferred. Paddington Bear and the various humans were fine, but the other pieces were less distinct.
I also should mention that without the description on the back cover, I would not have known that he was going to Portobello Market or joining Mr. Gruber for a special treat. The back cover is the only place this specific information can be found.
Love the rhymes! The Alley illustrations are delightful as well. Ths is a fun repetitive scene from A Bear Called Paddington. My children love and so do I. This little board book builds perfect excitement for the new picture book, treasury, and movie to come!
A short and wonderfully illustrated story about Paddington Bear. The 1-yo wasn't overly interested, though that may change when Paddington becomes more familiar.
Rhyming text takes readers through the market with Paddington to get a yummy treat! Nice introduction to a classic kidlit character that is perfectly aimed at toddlers.
