She thought the human realm was dangerous, but it has nothing on Unseelie Fae Academy.
After being kidnapped by the Seelie and taken to the Fae realm, suddenly, Erica's soon discovers she may never be able to return to her former life of hell on earth. Because. according to the king and queen, as the lost princess of the Seelie Court, Erica must attend the Unseelie Academy to foster relations between the Seelie and the Unseelie.
So what's worse than being forced to attend a hostile academy that hates you for belonging to the "wrong" court? Being stuck in a coed dorm with an Unseelie prince who wants to destroy you. Which is exactly what Erica faces as the brooding enemy prince bullies her along with the rest of the Unseelie fae at the school.
They share a common secret, though, that could put them both in far worse danger than any school, magical or not. Because as much as they hate each other, they're starting to fall for each other too.
And even if Erica does learn to use her magic quickly enough to survive the torment of her bullies, there's little hope her heart will survive Maddox's loyalty to the Unseelie court.
Fans of Sarah J Maas and Jennifer L Armentrout will love this spicy enemies to lovers fantasy romance.

This is the type of book I think of when my husband teases me for reading Fae Smut and Fairy Porn...
I recently saw a question posed that asked if you prefer a mediocre plot with excellent characters or mediocre characters with excellent plot? I had initially answered that I'd take characters over the plot any day but I think this made me realise that depending on the pace...I might not mind mediocre characters if the plot had something going to keep me hooked.
This book is a dual-POV story following Erica and Maddox. Erica has spent 18 years of her life in the "human" world in the foster system - just trying to get by...But it turns out she is the long-lost Kidnapped Seelie Princess. She is brought back home, reunited with her parents in about 5 sentences and then almost immediately... since someone wants her dead sent to the Unseelie Fae Academy as part of some weird peace treaty arrangement with the Unseelie Court. She is forced to share a suite with the Unseelie Prince - Maddox and oh what fun they have.
By Fun... I mean this "Bad Boy" prince has some elements that make him a sadistic and cruel bully but then some that you would find straight out of a childish juvenile fraternity. He and his friends place traps around the academy to torment the girls - he forces Erica to sleep on the floor by concealing her mattress. Then he forbids her from seeking help to learn magic, and because he can't seem to get her off his mind, magically binds her and has his way with her (BUT SHE SECRETLY REALLY LIKES THIS) while calling her pet.
Now - I have no issues with hate sex, bully romances and CNC - I love those in books so that part I actually enjoyed... What bothered me is while the overall plot was SUPER Intriguing...it went round and round in circles and although it finally reaches the end destination, we have about 50 statements repeated, the same dialogue and internal monologues said over and over, on top of plot elements recycled. If those are removed you're left with very little. It just stagnated the forward movement as it seemed everything fixated on "She is my enemy" and "why do people want her dead"
The other issue is this is more plot-focused than character. So there isn't much depth to their internal suffering and trauma. It is touched on in places but there was such a missed opportunity to actually dig deeper into these elements and make us connect with Erica and Maddox. Also, aspects of the dialogue seem contrived/forced or stilted - like you're watching a badly rehearsed high school play and someone forgot some dialogue and just jumped to a conclusory end statement.
There were so many unanswered questions that in the end they felt more like plotholes than "bait" for the next book. I was also quite irritated at the numerous instances of the other character being aware of happenings with the other without being there or being told were annoying. (An Example: Maddox thinking of something in his internal dialogue related to something that happens to Erica but he wasn't there to see it, hear about it or should not actually know about it at all...but he does)
I know I am griping on things but it really wasn't that bad - it was fast pasted and fae smut fluff that scratched the itch to pass the time.

Thank you BookSirens for my ARC gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. He falls first and he falls hard. All without realising and bullying her. This book is an easy read but do check the trigger warnings for it. The dual POV is great at showing the characters different feelings, however, certain parts of the book feel repeated as the same scene is written from both perspectives. The writing makes you want to hate certain characters based on their behaviour and interactions with characters. It does end on a cliffhanger but I can’t wait to see what the second book has to offer!
This book definitely needs some clear Trigger Warnings because there is a fine line between non consent and r*pe.
Imagine living a mundane human life only to be abducted to the Faerie realm and learn that you are the missing Seelie Princess that was taken when you were a baby. Even worse you are sent to study and learn to harness your magic at the Unseelie Academy in an attempt to foster better relations between the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.
Erica was orphaned and lived a hard life. Learning she is a Fae has tilted her world on its axis. To make matters worse she is placed in a coed dorm with a cruel, ruthless Unseelie Prince Maddox
Maddox and the rest of the Seelie and Unseelie Fae bullies Erica relentlessly. As her dorm mate he treats her terrible and feels he can treat her however he wants. The lines between non consent and r*pe is a fine line in this story. Regardless of how a woman's body responds to a man's touch; when a woman says No; No means No and in this book Maddox didn't care, he used his magic to restrain her and took her and didn't care whether she gave consent or not.
As Erica learns to control her magic and trying to understand the inner working of Fae politics she realizes that things aren't adding up.
The more she tries to avoid Maddox the more Maddox can't stay away from her. Following his father's cruel, sadistic orders Maddox finds himself at a crossroads. The more he sees Erica bullied and tormented by his friends and others the more he finds himself wanting to protect her but how can he without his father finding out.
The more Erica learns to harness her magic the more she realizes how powerful she is if she just learns control but something sinister is at play. In addition to the excessive bullying and humiliation; someone is out to k*ll her and if she doesn't learn how to control her magic fast she's as good as dead.

It is not a bad book, but it feels like more of sexual assault than BDSM. If a man treated me and talked to me about how Maddox does, I would never want him touching my body. I would not enjoy it. I like men who act like real dom, not controlled-ridden teenagers rebelling against their father. There is no consent once stated in this book. This book is also not 'to be released' it has been out for a while now, and I recently got it as an ARC book the book was released on 01/15/24 but I was offered the ARC after that date. It was not a good book, and I had to force myself to finish it. The main characters lack depth, and it's just a forced sex/SA smut book. Torturing women WITHOUT verbal consent like really.... and it was written by a woman.... I'm not sure how this book has over a 4-star rating.. it is immaturely written. The author says on the trigger warnings, '..but it's okay she secretly wants it'. To being held down and having someone force themselves on her. Oh yes, she wants it so much she says no over and over then cries after sneaking away afterward. Not a woman sounding like a r*****! This book is nothing but r*** and SA.
I got this book as an ARC and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read it. The story is so good and written very well. I was absorbed in it immediately and was so sad when it ended. The characters are great. Erica is very easy to love and you can’t help but root for her. Maddox had me very back and forth. He is so mean to Erica but you get glimpses that he could be a happily ever after for her. The story starts with Erica, who grew up in foster care in the human world, all of a sudden being thrown into a magic filled world she never imagined existed. She is all of a sudden thrust into Faery as the long lost Seelie Princess and is sent to a fae academy for the sake of peace and safety. Poor Erica is in the Unseelie kingdom with no knowledge of magic, no self defense or any idea of the history that has everyone even her own people hating her. The Unseelie Prince, Maddox, has been tasked by his father, the Unseelie King, to find out what the Erica and the other Seelie girls are hiding. Things get hard for Erica with the other students hating her that’s she’s completely on her own. Everyone bullies her especially the Prince. Everyday is a battle of survival for her. This story may have triggers for people with issues with violence and assault. It’s a good read for those who love twisted romances and male characters who are domineering a-holes. It has spicy content that does not disappoint and the story does end with a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book.

Erica, 18, kidnapped princess of the Seelie Fae Court, grew up thinking she was human Maddox, unknown age, Prince to the Unseelie Fae Court, groomed to be the next ruler
Told in dual POV, A Court of Discovery (after the prologue) starts off with 18 year old Erica in the human world. She is approached at her job by a few people who asked her one too many questions about her family history. After work, she ends up being knocked out and then wakes up in the Seelie Court to find out she was the long lost Seelie Fae Princess…… SURPRISE! Upon her arrival, a few things are apparent, Erica knows nothing about the Fae world or her magic, and someone or rather multiple someone’s are trying to k1ll the princess. Her parents decide to send her to the Unseelie Fae Academy to keep her protected.
When we get to Maddox we learn his father is an extremely cruel man who beats his son for any and all perceived disobedience. He has ordered the prince to get any and all information out of the princess, by any means necessary. Only problem is, once Maddox sees the lost princess he is enamored with her.
As the book progresses Maddox and his continues to bully Erica while Maddox is secretly falling for her behind closed doors. His friends seem to be aware of what’s going on behind closed doors even though Maddox is trying to be extremely careful not to show his emotions or publicly protect her from the bullying.
I am left wanting more answers! When does the next book come out? I want to know if Fae’s have fated mates and if so is Erica Maddox’s intended mate? Is that why the pull to her is so strong? What exactly is the prophecy about the lost princess?
The next book is going to be even darker guys! The misconception in this book is strong and Maddox is P1SSED! Hold on we are in for a bumpy ride!
This book has a duel POV that switches back and forth between Erica and Maddox. I loved the POV alternating back and forth every chapter. It really lets you get into the characters minds and experience events through both Erica and Maddox’s perspectives! Both these characters are complex and compel the reader to continue reading to learn more about them! The FMC is a strong willed heroine who perseveres no matter what and I loved rooting for her! The MMC has complex motivations and I loved seeing the struggle he goes through between what he wants vs what others want for him. I can’t wait to find out more about their journey in the next book!
I really like the pace of this story! The author gives you details as they come (allowing for a faster pace), instead of bogging the reader down in details in the very beginning. It makes it easy to read and get lost in the story! One more chapter before bed… tuned into finishing the entire book in one night!
Overall I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy stories about: fae, characters with powers, D/s interactions, bully romance, MMC with the I-want-her-but-I-can’t-show-it attitude.

I could NOT put this book down! I read thru it in 2 day's and it has been a while since I have done that. Erica has so much potential, especially being thrown into another realm she never even knew existed, and I am really looking forward to seeing what she has in store once she has mastered her magical abilities. There's typical school banter, hazing, attitude, and the spice.....amazing. I am ready for the rest of the series!
I received this ARC for free in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to like this book. Fae? Academy? Enemies to lovers? Sign me up. Unfortunately, my issues with this book started from the very beginning. I will keep this review spoiler free and therefore vague, but review some of the general concepts that made this a 2-star read for me. The following is mostly from the description of the book. The female MC is a unknowingly a fae living in the human world. She grew up in foster care, and lived a pretty tough life. Suddenly, she is kidnapped, plopped into this world with her family, and she is just fine with it. Like, really fine. She complains here and there, but within the first week her parents are mom and dad. It was so bizarre to me, I just felt like that was really unrealistic. Rough start.
The rest of the book is long, monotonous internal monologues of the two main characters regarding the roles they are forced to play and their disdain/want for each other. At first, it was the start of that enemies to lovers feeling I so wanted, with a splash (okay more than a splash) of bully romance. There was zero world building, barely any explanation of the magic system, and really not much of a plot at all. Even the romance ended up falling flat for me because of the lack of character development. I hurried towards the finish line on this one because I though surely there has to be some big plot twist coming that will hook me in for future books. The only plot twist I got I guessed about about 30-40% into the book. I think what really sealed the deal on the two star rating was the last 30% which had multiple complete scene repetitions because the male MC is constantly following the female MC (BUT NOT HELPING HER UGHH) and so we read the same lines again from his point of view. This just was not it for me, I will leave it at that.
Always be sure to read the trigger warnings! While the author notes there are scenes of violence, bullying, CNC, etc. I felt mislead in that there is a scene of straight up premeditated r*pe. She said NO right from the beginning, there was no CNC in the first encounter scene! I would not have read this book had I been made aware of that overlooked trigger.
Overall, the story itself is interesting. A missing fae princess reunited with her family after living in the human world for so long (she's an adult now) that she needs to start over in learning her magic. The fae worlds meanwhile have been at odds with one another. The Seelie and Unseelie heirs, including our found princess, are forced to live at an academy to learn together in hopes of peace moving forward... but if they kill one another they'll start a full on war. Just because the students can't kill the heirs at the academy without breaking the truce, doesn't mean that our missing princess isn't being hunted by an unknown figure.
The expansive magic system is enjoyable, especially as we watch the missing princess learn the various elemental aspects of what make her stronger than most. The dual POV was also good, but there were a few scenes that were almost full duplicates. As the prince starts falling for the missing princess, the depth of the story seems to take off and I found myself enjoying the second half of the book more than the first.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
A Court of Discovery is a story of two kingdoms in a state of precarious peace, and how two rival schoolmates threaten to disrupt it.
Erica was kidnapped by an unknown party as an infant to the human realm, causing the faerie realm to fall into war, Unseelie versus Seelie. After making her own way in the world being passed from foster home to foster home, we meet Erica as a young adult. Soon her past is revealed and she’s reunited with her parents, only to discover that an assassin has entered the Seelie court and is trying to kill her. For her safety, she is sent to the Unseelie Academy, where there is an understanding that no harm shall come to rival royal family members, lest war is declared once again.
Maddox is the prince of the Unseelie court, a cruel and spoiled fae and self-appointed prince of the Unseelie Academy, who thinks his purpose is to put Erica in her place. His conflicted feelings about Erica wind up threatening his place in school, his relationship with his father and his future in his kingdom.
I was initially a little weary of following school-age MCs, since it’s always little dicey if they’ll be too young or unbearable as characters. This is set with characters who are a little older, and good thing too because the spice is PLENTIFUL. I did feel a little uncomfortable though, if I’m being honest, as it toes the line of consent. It wasn’t so concerning as to disgust me, but there is a WHOLE lot of ‘no’ happening. The relentless bullying on top of it kind of made me unhappy.
Regardless, I found the story enjoyable but a bit repetitive. I also thought there were moments where the plot was a little bit disjointed, some seemingly important plot points were mentioned which disappeared later/didn’t matter. It didn’t quite make it to four stars for me.
Tropes in this story: ✨ Enemies to Lovers ✨ Forbidden Love ✨ Fish out of water ✨ Bully MMC
I received an advanced copy of this book via HiddenGemsBooks, but my review is all my own.
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from booksprout for giving my two cents. We meet Erica working in a bar one evening where she meets a few people who give her some creepy vibes and it gets even stranger when one asks abou her parents...I'm.. what...she was dropped off at a fire station as a baby...foster kid growing up. All she remembers is taking out the trash and was hit over the head. Next thing she know she wakes up in a weird place and the creepy woman from last night is there leading her to a throne room...yes a throne room where she is told she is the lost princess. Erica is trying to process this and the fact she is fae, not human. We meet entitled unseelie prince Maddox who is determined to make thr seelies princess a living nightmare at the academy..only bc his father, the king is making him. He didn't expect to be attracted to her and now he has to live with her. Erica is way out of her depth. She can't fight or use magic not to mention being bullied by everyone including her own people. Maddox is infuriating and making her do things against her will. Not to mention people want her dead. A new professor is trying to help her but at what cost? Her magic is unstable and dangerous and she will use that to her advantage to keep herself safe. Things are not what they seem and No one can be trusted. Whispers are heard about a prophecy and the history is false. Knowledge is power but at what cost?
Erica grew up in foster care and now works in a diner until mysterious strangers visit one day and turn her life upside down. They kidnap her from the human realm, reveal she's the long lost seelie princess, and throw her further into the deep end thanks to political treaties with the unseelie. She's shipped off to their academy with little training, no control of her magic, and no protection and left to fend for herself against vengeful teenage boys, ruthless Fae and enemies in every direction. Maddox is the arrogant and bratty unseelie prince and its his mission to destroy the seelie princess and uncover her secrets for his psychotic father. Now he's set his sights on Erica he's obsessed, and torn between tormenting her or desiring her.
This book is very dark and has lots of triggers, and lots of graphic sexual content / spicy scenes. Overall it's a fast paced, tense and drama filled dark fantasy, with a CNC enemy to lover / bully romance between enemy Fae. It ends on a cliffhanger and there's still lots to unearth with secrets, betrayals, underlying twists and hidden identities and motives. Looking forward to book 2.
A dark, addictive academy romance packed with enemies-to-lovers tension, A Court of Discovery throws readers into a dangerous Fae world where magic, secrets, and power plays rule. Erica, a lost Seelie princess, is forced into the Unseelie Fae Academy—and into close quarters with Maddox, a cruel, possessive prince who wants nothing more than to break her… or claim her.
This book delivers on every dark romance trope: bully romance, forced proximity, possessive MMC, and dual POV, all set in a cutthroat magical academy. The dynamic between Erica and Maddox is intense and often morally grey, walking the line between pain and passion. Magic is both weapon and prison, and trust is rare.
Not for the faint of heart—this story includes bullying, non-consensual magic use, and a slow shift from hatred to something deeper. But if you’re craving high-stakes dark fantasy with spicy enemies-to-lovers heat, this one’s for you. Now I need to jump into book 2!
“A Court of Discovery” by Ember-Raine Winters is about Erica, a girl who thought she was a normal human her whole life. When she was kidnapped, she found out she is a Fae lost princess of the Seelie Court. Her life was in danger as a baby, so the King and Queen had her put into the human realm as a Changeling. Now that she is back in the Fae realm, she is put into the Unseelie Academy for her safety and to prepare for her new life as heir to the throne. Being in the academy her life is in constant turmoil with the Unseelie Fae that hates her and unknown danger that keeps putting her life on the line.
I really liked this book. Perfect spicy, magic school, bully romance vibes. This is one of my favorite book about a magic Fae school and it didn’t give me any cringe vibes that often happens with magic school books. I loved the main characters, and the world was easy to read about. I gave the book a 5 out of 5 stars, I would love to read more of this world.

just looking at the cover, I knew this was going to be an awesome book.
straight away, there was mystery, and I was hooked. I loved how the world building was and the way the places were described it made me feel like I was there and could see and smell everything around me. The more I read about the fmc, the more I felt for her. Parts of the book made me want to reach in and grab her to give her a big hug. I loved how there was push and pull from both the fmc and the mmc. you can sense their chemistry and reading further. I was waiting for something to happen. I felt happy sad and excited about this book. I loved the whole book from beginning to end and really hope to read more by this author.
I absolutely devoured this book! Very intense and sizzly.
It was dark and might be a little uncomfortable for some as it is very forced proximity and blurred lines of consensual/forced intimacy, but I honestly loved the story.
It was a rich world of Fae, an enemy magic academy, an enemies to lovers vibe (feeling that), a development of character strength, and a mystery!
I was so absorbed in the story when *BAM!* Huge plot development, darkness incoming in our broody male main character, andddddd, cliffhanger cuts me short, and I'm now sat here (book)edging, wondering what feck is gonna happen next??
An absolute delight to read. Worth all the starssss. *°•*°•*
BAM xo.

A Court of Discovery is a dual POV about a Seelie Princess (who was raised as a human due to being kidnapped as an infant) and an Unseelie Prince who is drawn to her, no matter how much he resists. The storyline is quick-paced and the character is quite engaging which results in a quick and immersed read! This is a spicy book with the forbidden love/enemies-to-lover trope mixed with a Bully MMC. The book does toe the line on consent, so checking TW would be recommended. Book #2 would be on my TBR as I’m excited to see how this story develops!
oh, what a spicy book this is. There for sure should be more of a detailed trigger warning for some of the more unknowing audience, but I enjoyed the deliciously dark moments that had me re-reading several scenes. There
is no moment left bland, instead I was filled to the brim in yearning chaos. I am excited for the next book, as there was so much left unexplained. I believe there were moment that were rather rushed especially towards the beginning of the book. I believe where some details were lacking, the author made up for with unrolling a plot worth the read. I also enjoyed the character developments that surrounded the mystery, but I do feel there should have been more details on some of the characters background. I hope to read more on that in the next book.
***Please read trigger warnings before reading this book as it contains dub/con and/or non/con situations.***
This book kept me interested, and I’m honestly looking forward to see what happens next. The story is so good and written very well. I was absorbed in it immediately and was so sad when it ended. The characters are great. This story may have triggers for people with issues with violence and assault. It’s a good read for those who love twisted romances and male characters who are domineering a-holes. It has spicy content that does not disappoint and the story does end with a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book.
Wow I love a good bully romance and this ticks all the boxes. Poor Erica is thrown into the academy where she’s at a serious disadvantage, having been raised in the mortal world. She has no clue about the ongoing battle between the seeliie and unseelie. Maddox us a real ass as are his friends especially Callum, he can’t help but be drawn towards Erica despite his fathers orders. Professor Locke is Eric’s saviour, she has enemies on all sides as she struggles to master her magic. Such a great first book I. This excellent new series.
I was hooked on this story by the end of the first page! It had such a high volume of suspense in the beginning!!! The different realm was interesting to learn about, and I loved being transported into that world! This author made the world building, and the characters come to life in such an incredible way 😍 Out of every character, Erica was my favorite🖤✨️ Since A Court of Discovery completely blew me away, I'm excited to see what the next book will bring!
A Court of Discovery is the story of Erica, who finds out she's believed to be the missing Seelie princess, and Maddox, the Unseelie prince who's destined to be her enemy. They both attend the Unseelie Fae Academy, where everyone seems to be after Erica...including Maddox? This is the setup for a bully romance and an epic adventure for both of our main characters. I'm interested to see where this story goes from here.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Omg the book was amazing. It has two points of views from both the male main character and female main character. Definitely fits into my love of fae erotic fantasy but do pay attention to the warnings from the author if you’re one to look at warnings against certain things in spicy books. By reading the warnings I knew what I was getting into but I usually don’t cringe at warnings myself. Now I’m assuming I’m stuck waiting for book 2. I want more!!!
This fantasy dark bully romance novel takes the reader on a journey through Erica's painful journey of discovering the truth. It leaves so many secrets left untold. I enjoyed it enough to read the 2nd book. There is not a lack of villains within these pages. There is plenty of mystery on the intentions of almost everyone with a dash of spicy. This story has me invested from the beginning, and I am anticipating the next book. Please read trigger warnings, I was not prepared for all of the darker elements of this story.
I had high hopes for "A Court of Discovery" by Ember-Raine, drawn in by the captivating premise of a human thrust into the tumultuous world of the Fae.
While the plot delivers on its promise of intrigue and conflict, I found the writing to be somewhat repetitive, with an abundance of actions like 'stomping', 'strutting', and 'scoffing'. Maddox, the brooding Unseelie prince, and his father come off as somewhat one-dimensional, their behaviour resembling cranky toddlers rather than fully fleshed-out characters.
Despite these shortcomings, the story holds promise, weaving a tale of forbidden romance and hidden secrets.
Overall, "A Court of Discovery" is a decent read, but it didn't fully hit the mark for me.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
There is alot of storyline in this amazing book. Erica is living in the real world so to speak. She doesnt know who she really is. But she will soon find out unfortunately the hard way. She is taken to an Unseelie Fae Academy not only to figure out who she is but to be protected. But is the academy the safest place for her? Maddox is king of the academy or so he thinks. He doesnt want anything to do with Erica but soon realizes that thinking that is all wrong. These two face so much in between the pages of this book. Will they come out together in the end or hating each other even more? Hold on because Ember takes you on quite the ride with these two. This is the first time reading from this author and I absolutely loved it. I am dying to read the next one in the series.
