This is a Dark Romance with potential triggers including Non-con and Dub-con. Please read the TW list in the Author's Note at the front of the book.
In a dark realm where magic and deception reign, and mortals are mere commodities, will she become their cherished possession...or the instrument of their ruin?
At fifteen, I was a killer—a weapon forged by a deceiving madman's twisted desires. A little bird in a gilded cage, my soul destroyed and remade in his image. I wielded a power no mortal creature should ever control, one I vowed never to use again.
Seven years later, I thought I'd escaped that life. I never expected my past to find me, let alone in the form of the three fae warriors who used to invade my every thought. Dane, Grey, and Kallum—oblivious to my true identity these past few years—now see me for what I am.
The Harbinger. I am a creature of power and darkness, and now I’m their captive.
Their eyes are alight with hatred and a heat I don't understand; they believe they can control me, punish me for my crimes against them, bend me to their will. But they don’t know what I endured at the hands of their so-called savior, the scars I bear beneath this facade.
Once upon a time, I let myself be a pawn, used in a game I never understood. I learned that my life wasn’t a fairy tale, but it isn’t an ordinary story of predator versus prey either.
They want a taste of the power I can wield?
Fine. I’ll give them a feast. But this time? I won't stop until I'm finally free and their precious world burns.
Sold to the Fae is the first book in the Dark Realms Series. If you like twisted antiheroes and a strong FMC, multiple POV dark ‘romantasy’ with bite, and a TW page that reads like a shopping list this book is for you.
Kyra was 18 when she read her first romance, 19 when she left the US for the UK, 20 when she decided to stay in London, 25 when she met her now husband, 30 when she got married, 31 when she had kid 1, 33 when she had kid 2, and 36 when she was diagnosed as autistic.
She now lives a few miles outside London with her husband, the two (likely neurodivergent) kids, and a cuddly cocker spaniel named Patch who likes to roll in bird crap.
Not all of her stories have neurodivergent FMCs but representation is important, especially when so many women are not diagnosed until well into later life!
She writes PNR, Romantasy, and Contemporary why choose where the enemies to lovers journey is rough but worth it!

Sold to the Fae is a new story in the Dark Realms series and I was so excited to be back in this intricate and brutal world. No one does alphaholes and fierce females like Kyra and this story was no exception. It was full of pain, torment and heartbreaking moments but it also laid breadcrumbs for hope and love.
Thalia has been THROUGH it. There is much more sadness and desperation than happiness in her life and most of her memories haunt her. Despite that, Thalia stays strong in mind and body as best she can and makes a life for herself away from the man (Varrik) that is the catalyst for everything bad.
However, her past catches up with her in the form of three alphaholes...Grey, Dane and Kallum. When they recognize her beneath her mask, her carefully constructed cover is blown and her life is about to change. Thalia has always felt a pull to these men but they have a nefarious task that doesn't involve saving her.
Stuck in Alcana, the gate is opening soon and these men intend on using Thalia and bringing her with them to return her to Varrick. Little do they know they may be making a huge mistake. Since finding Thalia, Dane is getting stronger, Kallum yearns for Thalia and is the nicest of the bunch and Grey's beast is finally making itself known and it wants to claim her. Kallum is learning things may not be what they seem, Grey is beginning to wonder if his initial thinking is wrong and Dane...well he's still an asshole. Will they be able to mend what's broken one day?
Sold to the Fae ends on a brutal cliffhanger but I know Kyra will make these men grovel and change their ways. These men may have the capacity for violence and hate but they also have, if not more, the capacity for love and deep emotion. Thalia is about to go through some more betrayal and heartbreak but I know she will come out stronger for it. I love Kyra's ability to mesh romance and angst so well. She puts her characters in tough spots but always gives them such fantastic character arcs. If you're a fan of the Dark Realms, you have to read this! I loved it.
Kyra Alessy has a new series in the Dark Realms! I’d secretly been hoping she’d go back, and when she anwered my plea with the ARC of Sold to the Fae,i immediately downloaded that beauty. Heads up,it’s a rough one,and after reading,i was left with a broken heart. The only thing that holds the pieces together,is the knowledge she’ll make it up to me with the second book in this duet…..
Thalia had a rough life, she lost everyone she loved at a very young age, endured abuse, and had been forced to to things that will haunt her for the rest of her life, but she doesn’t give up. She does her best to find a place of her own,and live in peace, without having to kill anyone else. She’s determined to stay far from the man that fooled her at first, and forced her to do his bidding later. Alcana may be closed off from the world, but even if that means she can’t get out,it also means he can’t get in. Cloaked as an Orc,she found a job,and keeps a low profile. Until one of the fae that she knew back then, finds her. She’s seen Grey,Dane and Kallum from a distance before, and that’s where she wanted to keep them, but now? When they find out who she is under her disguise? She doesn’t stand a chance in Hell!! Even though she’s always felt drawn to them, she knows they’re dangerous, and she fears what they will do to her…..
Grey,Dane and Kallum have lived in Alcane as long as she has,and they have an agenda. The same man she never wants to see again,Varrik, sent them after her to bring her back. They were just as stuck in Alcana as she,but knew the shields would lower soon, and the Gate would be open again. When Grey found Thalia,he followed her home, and found out who she really was underneath her disguise. He alerted the others, and they started to put a plan into action, making sure she’d have no choice, but to leave Alcana with them.
Dane’s powers haven’t grown as he’d wanted, but he feels them stirring now and he can’t wait to go home and show his beloved Fiana what he’s capable of now. Kal’s powers haven’t become as strong as he’d wanted, but as long as he has someone, preferably Lia,that doesn’t really matter. Only,he feels them growing now… Grey has waited a long time for his beast to show, but why did it have to be now? This isn’t the time,or the place for it to run wild….
As they travel through the Gates, they start to see eachother in a different light. Slowly, but surely,Kal gains Lia’s trust, and the things she shares don’t add up with what they know about her. As Grey’s beast grows stronger,it starts demanding he claims her,and he has trouble denying it. Dane may be the only one that doesn’t feel attracted to her,but even he ends up treating her better after a while. Lia may be forced to go with them, but her feelings for them start to grow. Still, she can’t wait to regain the freedom she longs for. And then everything goes to hell…..
Kyra has become one of my favorite authors, her stories are packed with emotion, heartbreak and action. Her heroines may suffer,a lot,but they still keep going. They don’t give up,even when faced with betrayal, abuse and evil. And in return, they receive the love and loyalty they deserve. Her heroes may start out as absolute bastards, but underneath those cruel facades lie vulnerable men, afraid to show emotion. Needing someone like the heroine to show them the way….if they let her. There’s only thing i don’t like about Sold to the Fae…. That cliffhanger…..that one HURTS!!!
If the author would have fleshed out the fmc's background more in the beginning I would have liked this book more. But alas, nothing is really justified; the fmc's feelings, the mmcs actions, events. All of it is very superficial, just told they all feel this way, have things happen without giving a good explanation as to why/how and the explanations you do get are about as deep as a puddle. There is no weight to anything. The last 25% of the book just gave super ick vibes and dumb choices made by characters. Dark plot? More like typical school bully stuff. Spice? Minimal, mostly just creepy.
For starters, it took me a while to finally get into the story. And even once the plot started to pick up a bit for me, I kept losing interest after a little while. I would say that Kallum was the main reason I kept reading.
While I'm not sold on this series, I have enough questions that make me curious to read the next book. I'd like to see how their magic works, specifically Thalia's, I'm curious about how their relationships develop, and that was a heck of a cliffhanger. So while this wasn't as good a read for me as I was hoping, I think I'm going to continue the series anyway and at least see what happens next!
I don't understand RH authors' obsession with putting their FMCs through literal hell and then making the MMCs relentlessly hate and bully her for the dumbest fucking reasons while being absolute pieces of shit. Are the authors okay?
This is the first book in the Dark Realms series, a new dark fantasy romance series with fae, humans and other sorts of fantasy races. This is a story of revenge, growth and the struggle for freedom. Tropes include why choose, morally gray characters, slow burn, angst, and betrayal. This is a darker fantasy romance so please review the content warnings.
The Lovely: There’s not a part to this story I didn’t love. Going into it I was excited for the why choose/RH but everything -the plot, the characters, the world - all melded together create a dark and romantic story of a drastically misunderstood FMC. The three MMCs hate her for what they think she’s done and will not make the journey “home” pleasant (or even tolerable). But the journey through the world, and how humans are viewed, will change all of them. I could not put this story down, although I did nearly throw my kindle at the wall after that cliffhanger of an ending.
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars 2/5 Flames
Recommendation: Thank you to the author for providing this book for review consideration. I finished this book an hour ago and already miss the characters. There’s so much more I want to know about all of them. It appears book two is expected to be released towards the end of 2024. I’m going to be in a bit of a panic until then. If you like dark fantasy why choose/ reverse harem, but with fae, and the complete package of a good book, I think you would love this story.
This was my first "dark" romance...not sure this qualifies as romance, ooookaaaayyy...and no. Just...no. I will not be reading the second book...Dane, Grey, and (especially) Kal don't deserve redemption, and Lia...well...Lia needs therapy for her Stockholm Syndrome.
I don't care that she "always felt drawn to" and had a crush on these men when she was a pre-teen and teen, that's no reason to be all, "Yeah, they abused me with the intent to break me, but they have their reasons, and I deserve it." Surviving all that and deciding she wants fuck them does NOT make her a badass FMC...it makes her an emotionally broken victim...simple as.
Maybe...MAYBE...if there had been character growth beyond the men feeling bad about abusing her (even though in the next breath they admit they're still gonna do it...because revenge) and all of them realizing they want to fuck her and she them, I MIGHT have given this one more star...but we'll never know, because no one grew or showed even a hint of a redeeming quality.
The storyline captured me from the start! We get to take a journey, thats filled with magic, secrets, betrayal and more! There was also action, angst, and some spice. I had so many different emotions throughout. There was pain and sadness to possibly bits of hope to come.
I loved Thalia. She is so resilient. She has been put through the ringer in life, but still manages to pick herself up and keep moving.
Kallum, Grey, and Dane were the guys or should I say captors. I have mixed feelings about each of them. Some, more than others seriously need to gravel. However, I'm having faith, that will see changes of heart when the truth comes out.
I think this was an excellent beginning to Thalia's world! Be prepared though, there is a cliffhanger!!! I can't wait for book 2 now!!
Lia - the Harbinger - hiding in plain sight. Living quietly trying to escape her past.
Kallum, Grey and Dane - tasked with finding the Harbinger and bringing her back to pay for her crimes.
They only want to bring her back so they can go home. Stuck in exile for 7 years, now they have her. They just have to get her safely back home to face her punishment. The cruelty and brutality they show Lia is heartbreaking.
As their journey home progresses they do start to realize Lia is not the monster they believed she was.
The characters were so well written that at times they made me angry at them for their callousness. The world building is wonderful as well.
The story does end on a cliffhanger and I’m very curious to see how the ends up playing out.
Oh, wow, I'm breathless. I've just finished 'Sold to the Fae' my goodness what a cliffhanger. Before I write my review Kyra, WRITE THE NEXT BOOK! So you will know dear readers that Kyra writes extremely well when constructing new worlds and characters. This book is no exception. We are back in the Dark Realms and boy are they nasty. This is the first book in what I believe to be two for this tale and my goodness I need the second one NOW as I need to know how our heroes get out of the jam that they are in. I don't give spoilers so please read the other reviews for them. This book is written from multiple points of view which I thoroughly enjoy, especially the man's view. Our female lead is living a really tough life and quite frankly has been given the sh*tty end of the sh*tty stick. Humans are the lowest form of life in these worlds and are slaves being treated appallingly. However slowly things start to turn around for her and the three men who are taking her along with them. I don't want to give much more plot away. The sex scenes are exceedingly well written, I don't think you would be reading this sort of book of you weren't open minded but just a warning there are some explicit erotic scenes. Kyra is a very experienced author and she really uses her talent to great effect on this book. A cracking plot, some fantastic characters, sizzling sex and what an ending to the book. Read it and have your breath taken away from you just like it has happened to me. Go on then... What are you waiting for? Go.
Guys!!! This is not a DRILL!!! It’s 4am and just finished devouring this book. Amazing! WOW!! Those Fae should grovel in the next book. Ugh i hate alphaholes but love them when they run out of stupidity and grovel. This book got me hooked! I can’t explain the intense chemistry but ugh🌶️🌶️🌶️🔥🔥🔥👀 @kyraalessydarkarcsmut really throw in for the kill. And it really does leave me hanging 😖 i need that second book!!! I bet Varrik ang Grith will be 2x meaner now that they got her back. Those faes really ugh😡 Dane will feel like shit, i just know it. I bet that lover of his is long fat him now. Grey and Kal would beat themselves after what they have done. I can feel it boiling now😤
I want to rant it all but i don’t want to leave spoilers😞 Thank you author for this wonderful work. I’m excited for the next book🤭🤭🤗😘
DNF (oh, well, after a while, I skipped several pages to the end). I don't mind dark romance features: I can read several twisted relationships, but... I'm not too fond of weak characters, especially if the author insists on portraying this character as a victim to inspire empathy by the reader. The FMC is insufferable and incoherent: does she have immense power or not? Doesn't she know it? She knows! And still, she is stupid and weak. Worst: lines like this one: "I say quietly, a gleam in my eye". How??? So... 0.5 stars.
This was my first dip into this author's world, and let me tell you, it's DEEP! It is very rich, scary, and dark, all rolled into one. Even though I was new, I didn't feel lost. The world unfolded naturally as the characters journeyed, no giant info dumps here!
I won't spoil the plot, but let's just say Thalia (Lia) is seriously misunderstood. The three guys who took her are absolute jerks who are clueless and not exactly open to changing their minds. I can't wait to see how that dynamic shifts once they actually understand what Lia's been through all this time—so much hurt and sadness.
This book sucked me in after the first thirty percent or so - it took me a while to warm up to the characters. Especially Kallum, Dane, and Grey. Bunch of jerks, honestly! And Lia... well, she seemed a bit too passive. But things picked up fast, and the story totally had me hooked.
Heads up: there's a massive cliffhanger at the end (and one particular guy better get what's coming to him in the next book!). I nearly threw my Kindle at the wall... (I didn't, and my precious remains safe, thanks for your concern ;) )
I read an advanced reader copy of this book in one sitting, and honestly, I'm bumping the author's other books right up my TBR list. If you're into dark reverse harem with some serious jerk-to-lover potential, a seemingly fragile heroine with a hidden badass side, then dive right in!
Sold to the fae is a slow burn, multiple POV, romantasy with enemies to lovers vibes. If you like alphaholes and strong female main characters, this book is for you.
Thalia is a human living among the Fae. She was taken in by the leader of a Fae camp after the death of her father. She is physically weak compared to her peers. Which is something several of them enjoyed taking advantage of. She was never going to be able to fit in, but when she was fifteen, they discovered something that was going to set her even further apart from the rest. She was the Harbinger. She was valuable and dangerous. The leaders kept her even more isolated until she escaped. She managed to stay hidden for seven years. She didn't want the power she had. She only wanted to survive and find a place where she could belong. Thalia was mostly succeeding until three alphahole Fae discovered her true identity.
Dane, Grey, and Kallum were sent after the Harbinger and failed to find her for seven years. They couldn't go home without her. Even though they had lessons with her as children at the camp, they knew very little about her other than she was powerful and dangerous. They had mostly watched her from a distance, and then she had destroyed everything when she ran. All they wanted was to be able to go home. Now that they had found her, they were getting her home by any means necessary. And if they took their revenge out on her along the way, who could blame them?
During the long journey, they started to struggle with who and what they believed Thalia to be and the vulnerable human traveling with them. The stories and rumors they had grown up with made less sense the more time they spent with her. Maybe her life at the camp hadn't been as pleasant as it appeared. Or maybe she was manipulating them. Things were changing. They were changing, becoming stronger. But they wouldn't be allowed home without her, so they couldn't let their doubts get to them or affect their friendship.
This is my first read of any of Kyra Alessy’s books though I do have Demons and Debts and sold to serve on my TBR list, this is where I start.
Sold to the Fae was an amazing book, I really enjoyed the world building and the pov’s of all the characters. I’ve read super dark romance books before and would definitely recommend this book to someone who wants to dip their toes into the Dark romance world, but are still unsure. I love that it started out as enemies to lovers for both Kallum and Grey. I hope that the next book we can finally see if what Dane has been looking forward to for 7 years was actually worth that ending/ cliffhanger. Overall a very great book!
This is my first book by Kyra and I really enjoyed it. This book has great world building that really immerses you. I like the characters. I feel sorry for Talia. All she wants is to be left alone and be normal. I didn't like the men at first but they are growing on me. I like Kallum and his weird serial killer vibes. I can do without Dane. The only thing that bothered me was I don't know if there is a book/series before this one but I felt kinda lost in the beginning. I could still read and understand it but I had a feeling I was missing some part of the story. Of course this book ends on a frustrating cliffhanger. I need the next one, NOW!!!
Dark,soul-gripping and spicy! A delicious romantsy ,why choose with dark themes weaved masterfully by kyra Alessy.Has many triggers but that only gives depht to the story. Well written with detailed and often complex settings and plot, the chemistry between the characters is to give you goosebumps and their interactions left me in the doubt of loving or hating them. Special mention to Thalia,to her resilience after being used, beaten and broken. End in a cliffhanger so good that I can't wait for the second part of the duet!
So, I had been in a reading slump for quite a while and couldn’t really get into anything. But this book… well it’s left me with the worst (and best) kind of book hangover! I was HOOKED. I need the next book in the series like yesterday!!
I was captivated by the main characters. I absolutely love Thalia - she’s so strong and determined and badass! And don’t get me started on Kallum, Grey and Dane! 😍 I’m so ready for the grovelling to begin! It’s definitely dark (but I LOVE it)! Definitely check TW’s though! But just a warning the cliffhanger will have you in a chokehold!
Anyway if you love dark why choose romances then I highly suggest giving this a read!
This was my first time walking around in Kyra's world, and I'm glad I did. I love some crazy, dark, not for everyone, kinda books. This one tickled all the right nerve endings. The story flowed extremely well. Even though I was new to this world (there are other books based in it), I didn't feel lost. Its an all new story line so there was no info dumps at all which I greatly appreciated.
I won't spoil the story line because personally I hate that in a review, but let's just say Thalia (Lia) is completely miss understood by everyone. She is in hiding (using magic to transform her look) and there are three guys who have spent years looking for her and the whole time she was right under their nose. The guys are absolute jerks to her because they don't know the facts. I seriously can't wait to see how this unfolds.
This book at me right away. Kyra can write very well with an amazing flow. There is a huge cliffhanger that had me kinda mad because I didn't want it to end. So lets just say I am ready for part 2 like yesterday. I did read this book in one sitting, as it is a shorter story. Saying that, it definitely doesn't read like a short story. Its not compacted with a hurried storyline, its not filled with unnecessary fluff either.
Needless to say I am going find the other books in this realm, because this just stimulated my brain in all the right ways. If you're into dark reverse harem with some serious enemy-to-lover potential, a seemingly fragile heroine with a hidden badass side, then this one is definitely for you.
DNF at 17%. Even though I didn't get that far into it, from what I read of the book, I decided it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm not a fan of info dumping in the first chapter or anything, but the world building needed some serious explanation to me, especially regarding how many supernatural species exist/ were mentioned. There was almost no grasp of the FMC's character, other than the fact she's a human pretending to be a troll. The prologue was more confusing/vague than informative or insightful, and felt like a waste of space. The first few chapters seemed lacking in direction and the characters all seemed like stagnant 2d cutouts. This one wasn't for me unfortunately.
I normally try to get further into a book before giving up but this book was so bad I just couldn’t. What really got me was one of the mmc sexually violating the mfc. I’ve read other books where something like that happens and it’s always been written so much better than how this author did it. Additionally at least at this point in the book the mfc has zero personality and everything is so superficial, none of the mmcs feelings seem justified. This book was hard to follow and made me uncomfortable which was new for me, I’ve read some extremely dark books that I loved but this take on dark was just bullying that was icky, not even dark imo.
I loved the Dark Brothers series and here we get more of this fascinating world in the first of a new series set in the Dark realms.. The world building here is amazing, in this harsh and unwelcoming as we travel with Thalia, our human FMC thru gates to new worlds where she’s considered no more than property. In the Dark realms humans are at the bottom of the pecking order, Thalia even with her special abilities as a Harbinger is treated like dirt and bullied. Her three fae captors and owners she has history with, having met under commander Varrik who has nefarious plans for her. The guys treat Thalia badly, being under the impression she’s wronged them , I really feel for her as they are so cruel especially Dane and Grey, the only slightly nice one is Kallum and he has his own selfish plans for her. Such a fantastic story that leaves us on a breath taking cliffhanger, I desperately want to know what happens next. I’m still really hating all the guys, they’ve certainly got some explaining and grovelling to do.
Lia is a powerful human mage with a vague and poorly developed background. Dane, Gray, and Kallum are subpar fae with little magical power. They all come from a Camp where they were under the tutelage of a cult leader for mysterious reasons.
When Lia escapes, the fae bros are sent to find her, which they don’t do for 7 years despite being trapped in the same university as her, because they’re incompetent and have one brain cell between them.
The fae bros find her by accident and are immediately much more powerful, but they’re too dumb to realize it’s because of her.
These idiots proceed to relentlessly abuse, neglect, and torture Lia for her crimes (which we lack any real detail about), and she finds this attractive. I guess “abuser” is her type.
In their 7 year absence, humans have turned into a slave race that are treated like pets, but who require sexual stimulation. For some reason, Lia finds this horrifying and doesn’t want to stay and be a pet despite the fact that the fae bros threaten her with rape, physically torture her and have told her she’ll be used as a killing machine. Personally, I’d take my chances with the goblin doctor.
They have to practice masturbating her in order to pass some weird slave owner test, and this takes up half the book. It’s such a great experience that when Lia saves Gray’s life and he owes her a life debt, she asks for… did you guess she would ask for his help getting back to the human realm? You’d be wrong. She asks him to take her virginity.
She is predictably betrayed immediately afterward.
Sold to the Fae is an intoxicating blend of magic, desire, and danger that will leave you spellbound from the very first page. This book draws you into a world where a formidable human woman must navigate the treacherous territory of fae warriors, igniting a fiery passion that leaps off the pages. The palpable chemistry between the characters crackles with intensity, making every encounter pulse with anticipation. With its addictive mix of enemies-to-lovers and reverse harem tropes, this book is a must-read for fans of dark romance and fantastical escapades. It is enchanting prose that you lose yourself in a tale that is as thrilling as it is tantalizing. This is a journey into the heart of desire and danger that you won't soon forget.
