Bread and Barks Cozy Mysteries #1

Cats, Cookies, And Capers

Rate this book
The town of Misty Meadows is excited about an upcoming pet store grand opening until they discover a cat thief and vandalizer is in their midst.

Lily Roberts, the proud owner of Misty Meadows’ quaint Bread & Barks Bakery, is turning her dreams into delicious reality while adding a dash of charm to every freshly baked treat.

She does it all with the help of her two dachshund pups, Casey and Copper, who are better treat-testers than they are business partners. When Lily learns a new pet store will open right across the street from her bakery in the coming weeks, she’s thrilled at the prospects of having easy access to supplies for her furry friends.

The only problem is that someone seems determined to keep that store from ever opening its doors.

The moment the grand opening is announced, trouble starts brewing for the small-town pet store. First, there’s vandalism. Then, the store’s cat rescues are catnapped! With the police focusing on the vandalism, it’s up to Lily and her pups to find the missing felines.

Luckily, Casey and Copper have great noses for mysteries and are hot on the trail of those missing cats. But will Lily be able to find all the clues before the pet store is shut down for good? Even more importantly, will she survive the danger she finds herself in once she learns the truth?

This book is perfect for anyone who loves cozy bakery mystery books that are filled with excitement and danger (and maybe a few friendly doggie snuggles.)

The small town of Misty Meadows, Vermont has many cute shops. Lily Roberts, along with her two dachshund puppies, own a bakery called Bread & Barks Bakery. She’s excited to find out a pet shop will be opening up across the street. The pet shop even features a section for cat rescues. She already met the owner, and they have become fast friends.

All is not that happy in Misty Meadows, though. Someone doesn’t want the pet shop to open, and they vandalize it before the grand opening. The cat rescues are missing. Lily vows to find them and discover who is behind these horrible attacks. Who would want the pet shop closed like this? She quickly discovers that danger lurks every place she turns. Lily has put together a long list of suspects. She and her puppies are determined to find the missing kitties and restore order to their peaceful community.

This is the first in the series and I found it adorable. It’s a quick, charming read with cute characters. Except for the bad guy - he wasn’t cute. There is no murder in this one but it’s an interesting puzzle to figure out. It’s a nice introduction to this set of characters. They are lively and I already care about them. I found them easy to get to know. They didn’t have that stiffness of a first novel that sometimes happens with "first in a series" books. There’s even a touch of romance.

This one can easily be read in one sitting. It kept me guessing to the end. I’ll definitely be looking for more in this series.

Pretty lame. I was able to figure out who the culprit was as soon as a particular character was introduced. A shop got broken into. There were no red herrings and if there were they were hidden so deep within the horrible dialogue I couldn’t find them. The book started off with dialogue that seems to start in the middle of a conversation between two people with no mention of who exactly they were. There was absolutely no character development, and I felt nothing for the characters. I’m left to wonder why the reviews said there was. Do we even know why anyone looks like or how they sound? I truly don’t like to give bad reviews on books but this one was well deserving of a two star review.

Unexpected Culprit
When Lily learns a new pet store will open right across the street from her bakery in the coming weeks, she’s thrilled at the prospects of having easy access to supplies for her furry friends. The only problem is that someone seems determined to keep that store from ever opening its doors.
This culprit was an unexpected person. I had problems figuring this one out.
I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.

Honestly this book was such a cute, cozy, quick read! I read this because the cover was cute, it was a stormy night/morning and I wanted to read something cute and quick. I lived all the characters (especially Mittens 🥰) I also love the little insta love between her and her love interest!

This novella packs a lot of fun between the covers of this first book in Paige H. Perry’s Bread and Barks Bakery Cozy Mystery Series. I love the small-town setting where neighboring business owners are friends. Both cat people and dog people are going to smile at the cute animals included in the story. If you want a bit of romance, well, you will find it, too.

Of course, since this is a cozy mystery, not everything is rosy and there is someone who keeps causing problems to prevent the opening of a new pet store. But the other shop owners step up to the plate to help clean up after a break in and to help learn who is responsible.

Cats, Cookies, and Capers is not long, so do not let time be an excuse for picking up a copy.

This was such an adorable start for this series! I saw it as a KU suggestion and was completely won over by the adorable dachsies on the cover, but I soon found some awesome characters I now really like and can’t wait to read more of their mystery adventures in the next book! I especially liked that since Lily and Jackson were obviously attracted to each other, they didn’t waste their time making excuses not to date. They just decided they were dating, so I’m sure it’s gonna turn into a sweet relationship.

No murder but a good mystery!

Lily has owned the Bread and Barks bakery in Misty Meadows? for about a year when she meets the new owner of a pet shop opening across the street. But before the shop even has its grand opening, it suffers two break-ins and has a number of cats and kittens stolen. Who is causing so much trouble for the new shop in this quiet town? How can a book full of cute animals not be fun to read? Enjoy!

Lily owns a bakery in a small town and is excited to learn that there will soon be a new business across the street. Emma wants to open a pet store and is days away from a grand opening when someone starts breaking into her store. This person also steals several of the cats that were up for adoption. It's up to Lily and her friends to find out what is going on. Book also has two cute Dachshunds, Casey and Copper which is why I read this short story in the first place.

The main character is Lily. She owns a bakery right next to a hardware store. When the store across from her is set to open up as a new pet store , she is so excited. But then that new store is broke into twice and some of her cats have been taken. Now everyone is trying to figure out who is behind it all. Can Lily figure this out before it's too late ?

This was a quick read. I love animals and this touched me in more ways than i would admit. When your pet goes missing your every day life is never the same until the pet returns or found. Will be reading more of this author.

It was an average cozy mystery with two adorable dogs. A bakery owner is trying to figure out who is sabotaging a new pet store, so there's no murder, which is refreshing. I think this short novella could have benefited by being a little longer.

nice start to a new series

I found this to be enjoyable and a quick mystery. Although I felt the relationships moved rather quickly it’s still a nice beginning to a series.

Lovely

A lovely little mystery with a hint of romance tossed in for good measure. A bakery owner that is sweet and welcoming to other new businesses.

A bit too cozy

A little too goodey two shoes for me. Very hallmark mystery. But I'm sure that works for some people so give it a try
