Telling a story about the importance of survival within any circumstances, however strange, and showing a girl-in-a-man’s-world angle, Presence is a novel about Samantha, a woman in her late twenties, both smart and attractive. One day, Samantha's regular life is suddenly turned around as the fact of her existence is somehow erased from the world. Nobody seems to remember her, her own apartment is occupied by the uninvited tenants, and even her sister, the only family Samantha has, is unable to recognize her. Lost and confused, Samantha accepts help from a stranger, a charismatic man named Archie, whom she accidentally encounters and unwillingly joins him in his fight against the silent invasion of the planet, Alfa planet as he calls it; and he himself happens to be a soldier from a parallel one, Beta. The glass wall put between Samantha’s new life and her former life makes discover the roadside of the world, dark and silent, the hidden place where her primary instincts come to the surface and she finally feels the urge to fight for herself and for others.
I’m not sure how to properly review the book as I am a rookie in this genre (Science Fiction is not my typical read).
However, I was very curious about this book just by its synopsis. So with that being said, I will simply drop a few lines to talk about the book from my personal perspective.
It took me a few tries to adapt to the writing (I felt it dry and ironic in places) and it was not an easy read, but once I got into the stride of it, I settled right in. I don’t regret the time I took to go “off the reserve” so to speak to read this. Once I “got it”, I thought the story was engaging. It had everything I believe would be included in a Sci-Fi book. It had some tension and mystery, with some wonder and imagination. My small quirk? I didn’t feel the characters were skillfully fleshed out, however, for some reason they fit the tone of the book. I could easily overlook my small nuance with that piece and really enjoy the read. I am looking forward to the second book!
Sorry for writing this horrible rating, but I must warn others about this book. I looked this book up on Goodreads and saw the amazing reviews. "Awesome!" I said, and bought it.
Then I started reading. Oh. My. Gosh. By the time I was at page 50, there had been two sexual scenes, not to mention the cursing. And by the end of the book, the main character, Sam, had had sex MANY times and raped once. This is not worthy of one star in my opinion.
I don't know what book the people giving presence were reading to give it five stars, but the book is FULL of grammatical errors and so poorly edited it makes me wonder if it was edited at all. Its an interesting storyline but the poor writing and editing meant the book was too frustrating to finish. One star is generous.
I couldn't believe the awful grammar and poor spelling, Was it written by a 12-year-old or just somebody too lazy to correct the dozens of glaring errors? I managed to get almost half way through before stumbling over so many careless mistakes that I had to give up. I have found many such books, obviously self published, obviously not corrected, and I have abandoned Amazon for this reason. Why does everybody think that they are writers when it is patently obvious that they couldn't write a postcard?
As a former proofreader and copy editor I lament the fact that we aren't used any more - it makes the authors appear either lazy or stupid - for goodness sake at least get a friend to read and correct the thing first!
A very poor story ruined by carelessness and not helped by the many dishonest reviews - the author must have an awful lot of friends!
Was privileged to read before it is published and it’s AMAZING. It’s a MUST-READ. It’s one of those “Hunger Games” gems. One of my favorite novels now. I can’t wait for the promotion to start. People NEED to read it.
I just finished Presence a couple of days ago and I am still impressed and keep going back to the heroes of this book in my mind.
The world of Presence lets you in slowly and you feel almost like embarking on a journey across the ocean. It is slow and steady at first but then the waves start rocking the boat more and more. And the closer to the end of the book the stormier is the ocean. The plot becomes very intense and captivates you completely and there’ a lot of action and a lot of unexpected twists and turns. And I loved that.
As for the heroes, they are 100% real and relatable. I was rooting for every one of them with my heart. The main heroine, Samantha, had to go through a lot of troubles and she had learned to be tough and strong and yet stayed vulnerable and that is what makes her so relatable and makes you fall in love with her. For me as a woman she is an incredible source of inspiration.
When I finished reading the last page I was left wanting more. I definitely want to know what happens next and, as I already know that the next book is gonna be titled Beta, I can’t wait for it to come out. I just want more. I wish I had it on my hands now.
It’s a great book. It’s just great. Everyone should read it, but not under 18 because there’s some language and some sex scenes which are not explicit but not for children anyway. I loved this book and I’m looking forward to see what others are gonna be saying about it.
I received prior released, a free digital copy of this book from the author.(Yes, I took my time to read it :P) This story is totally awesome! From the beginning you are caught with a need to know what is that "noise". However, I don't give it five stars because I feel like it is necessary develop the characters a little bit more. There is too many "blanks" on the story; sometimes it moves on too fast and another times too slow. The soldiers invading Alpha... the trick balls, the System... Tim, Josh, Archie T_T And OMG that finale... knowing that the things are going to make worse in Beta... Just can't wait for the second book. It was so fucking amazing!

New release December 2013.
Samantha, whose life has been ruined by the noise she's been hearing for months, finds out something terrible. Parallel to our planet, Alpha, are two other planets: Beta and Gamma. And there are soldiers from Beta infiltrating to steal our lives...
The plot of this book is pretty exciting and suspenseful. However, the characters are too changeable throughout the book. At one page they say A, three pages later they do B. This is why I can't rate this any higher than I would like to.
Although this was my first Sci-Fi read, I really enjoyed it! It's full action, mystery, with just a touch of romance. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire read. The imagination it took to write this was amazing and i definitely can't wait to read more from this author. 5 STARS!
Audible:I did not care for this book at all.I thought it would be fun or interesting but I just couldn't wait for it to be over. Narration by Darla Middlebrook was fine.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I have read sci-fi/fantasy novels, graphic novels, even comic editions for so long now and drop on this genre once in a while to take respite from the romance novels I normally read. One of the things that attracts me to this genre these days is the artistry of these novels in both text and graphic art. Thanks to sci-fi-based technology we now take for granted, more and more artists and authors find it easier to get their ideas across. One of those authors is Perie Wolford.
I am not unfamiliar with this author's work, in fact, I must admit that I am very familiar with it. However, I have ignored his sci-fi works until I stumbled upon this little digital booklet while going over his site and I took interest to read it. It was for Free, so what was I to lose? Nothing. However, I quickly found myself lost in the worlds he created, spurring my curiosity of what this book may be all about. And boy, was I surprised!
Presence is Samantha's story, a magnetically young and beautiful woman on the brink of losing herself to the noise. This noise (best described as white noise) had been in her head for some months now, insidiously taking over her every waking and sleeping patterns. As her personal life falls around her and her grasp on sanity gets questioned, she stumbles into a reality that involved parallel worlds, non-existence, soldiers and the System.
One by one, what she knew of as 'reality' gets taken down and squashed. She discovers a truth that involves a dying parallel world called Beta which people are now silently invading her planet; that there are rules to take to heart or be erased by the supreme System; that she needs to follow these rules so she could get her life back by stealing the lives of others to pay rent with the use of the trap balls, and that her life could change dramatically thanks to the Blue sunrise and the liquid. Confused and unaccepting of her new life, Samantha plunges herself into this new world with a vengeance, fighting from within the System like a seasoned soldier. As this new Samantha rises, we see a soldier of firm determination and a perseverance that could only be admired and hated from afar by the elite of Beta. Reading Samantha's story unfold, her world is seen as a constant whirl of betrayal, confusion, trap balls and men.
The best way to describe Presence is a matrix: where the world of man collides with a Supreme one, they learn to take it apart and discover its individual properties and eventually learn to manipulate it to their own advantage. What is known on Earth (Alpha) as God, those on Beta know it as the System. These are two different worlds with supposedly different fates, but with Beta dying, and the third world Gamma an inhospitable desert, there is only one certainty: invasion.
It was not very difficult to understand this book, thanks to the Digital Booklet. With that on one hand and this novel on the other, it was quite easy to connect the dots and come up with a full picture. It was quite easy to understand what the noise was all about, thanks to the video trailer. With these tools, I got submerged in Samantha's world and was just plain intrigued.
The author has created a world that aroused my curiosity. It was confusing and fascinating all at once. With a light touch, he was able to quickly set the pace to such depth that it amazes me how he could get the story lines straight. There are a lot of things going on here, most of which is best left to the reader to discover for themselves, but one thing stands out: Samantha's adventure into the unknown is like drowning in a dark world of the fight for survival. As her character evolves, she is revealed to be a very strong heroine, the likes whom are only found in some of the more outstanding heroines of science fiction. She is a determined fighter who is willing to make use whatever tools she could to survive and fight the System that is insidiously invading her planet. Even if she has to sacrifice her life.
For those who love the intrigue and all things science fiction, Presence is one book not to missed.
Full disclosure - I couldn’t make it even a quarter of the way through this book. I found it through good reads where it somehow has above one star (which if there was a lower star, or a negative star I would give this book that star). I am obsessed with parallel universes, sci-fi, fantasy, it is kinda my deal - so I go into things like this wanting to love it, wanting to not have to go and find another book about alternate worlds because it’s a bit of a pain to do that. The amount of it that I read, was the worst book I’ve ever read in my life. I have never actually had to stop reading a book without finishing but after one too many “I don’t mean to play around the bush” level errors, I couldn’t any longer. Like, what is this? Fan fiction for a nonexistent series? What have I missed that lead me to this point? I actually felt personally attacked by the badness of this book. STAY AWAY OR GOD HELP YOUR SOULS.
