An ode to the feline in your life, Hardworking Cats shows that cats are much less lazy than we give them credit for. It’s not all just sleeping in sunspots, curling up on laps, and looking adorable. Our cats are just as motivated as we are to get a good day’s work done. The next time one of your dog-loving friends (shudder) asks you “What’s your cat even good for other than laying around?” you can answer with a long list of one hundred different professions that your cat can do, including:
Official greeter, waiting for you at the door Exterminator, ridding you of those pesky pests Interior decorating, achieving that messy yet chic look Furniture stripper, because who really needs upholstery anyway Comedian, providing you with laughs at just the right moment Food critic, letting you know you accidently bought the wrong flavor Yoga practitioner, making sure to stay in shape with extra-long stretches Job supervisor, keeping an eye out for any goofing off during gardening season Data entry typist, showing that you don’t actually need to use real words to get your meaning across And many more
Lovingly illustrated with one original illustrations, cat-lovers of all ages will enjoy finding which profession their cat is best at.
“Hardworking Cats: A Humorous Look At The Feline Contribution To Our Workaday World” is a very good humour and artbook by Lisa Kerber of New Hampshire and Jack Ungar of San Francisco. Published in 2014, it is modern, creative, and very warm. Readers and page browsers will love this sweet gift book. I gave three stars because I know cats in my soul and have a few pesky remarks about a few contents.
Cartoons express light-hearted, fictional merriment with spare lines, that is not serious. Jack conveys this very well in every character’s warm, jocular expression. Colours are vibrant from flowerbeds to furniture. People are well shaped in homey clothes. Backgrounds are most impressively detailed: brick walls, knitting baskets, carpets, shingles, bureaus, and beds. The stars for some reason, the hardworking cats, are rudimentary lumps. When you have seen Robert Bateman & Lesley Anne Ivory draw animals: you know the awesome possibility for realistic splendour.... in their eyes and in every tuft of fur!
Turning to Lisa, I easily, gratefully thank her for being true to the love and humour that abounds in the lives of cat families. Her whole book flows from a positive place and her wonderfully original ideas are actually funny and relatable. I credit this with appreciation because many purported cat books miss these important marks and forget our mutual love! Our cats love us as much as we love them. They are the lights of our lives, always.
My humble notes are that several depictions were naughty things no one wants cats to do and a few were duplications. It is the easiest thing in the world to share one-hundred precious things our beloved cats do for us every day. I am touched by the scenes of Kitties raising glum spirits and making us laugh.
As a cat lover, this book appealed to me. And while nothing groundbreaking, it's a cute and funny look at all the "hard work" cats do for us humans, and the multiple roles they play in our lives -- willingly or not. The illustrations are simple but cute, and everyone who's ever owned a cat will find themselves grinning and nodding in understanding.
The one downside to this collection is that the comics aren't numbered, at least in the Kindle version. While this normally wouldn't be a problem, it's a bit frustrating when a particular comic's caption tells you to refer to another number of comic... which is nearly impossible to do without counting through every comic when they aren't numbered. A minor complaint, but a complaint nonetheless.
Hardworking Cats: A Humorous Look at the Feline Contribution to Our Workaday World (Kindle Edition) — Lisa Kerber (unnumbered titled chapters) June 10-11, 2020
Great diversion; funny book for cat lovers. The only bad: author references title # and titles had no number attached. (ie: see #71, .) Plus the TOC did not list titles or chapter numbers so could not easily go to reference indicated.
Otherwise, OK. Illustrations transferred nicely to Kindle e-reader.
Lots of smiles and giggles of appreciation in this book. I really think every page is a true story! 💜 Well written, cute illustrations... Check it out!
Are you looking for a listing of all the “unpaid” tasks and chores kitties perform around the house? Hardworking Cats offers you humorous answers!
Author Lisa Kerber seems to have put some extra thought into the various jobs. A few of them are redundant though and essentially the same work with a different title.
What do Hardworking Cats get up to? It boils down to eating, sleeping, and playing. Oh, and there’s also destroying stuff, hunting, and submitting to petting or grooming. One wonders how humans ever coped without their feline aides. 😉
