Ann saves Fido from the dogcatcher, is almost damaged by the housepainters' paint, and listens to the seashell's story, while Andy is given a new smile
Johnny Gruelle was an American artist, political cartoonist, children's book author and illustrator (and even songwriter). He is known as the creator of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. He had such confidence in his design that often he would create the final ink work without first sketching in pencil.
There's a reason why everyone recognizes the dolls/characters pretty quickly, but don't know the stories: the stories aren't good. They feel very condescending, and dated, and not fun. I discourage you from reading them, lest the dolls become tarnished in your heart. Although, come to think of it, when's the last time I saw someone dressed up as Raggedy Ann?
So charming and old fashioned. My daughters both loved it so much that they insisted on making a rag doll of their own... with candy hearts 💕 . Perfect stories for bedtime: short and cozy.
