Have fun with language! One book is never enough to explore the wide range of verbs! In this follow-up to To Root, to Toot, to Parachute , the crazy cats deliver loads of additional examples to illustrate the power of both action verbs and linking verbs. Brian P. Cleary's playful verse and Brian Gable's comical cats turn traditional grammar lessons on end. Each verb is printed in color for easy identification. Read this book aloud and share the delight of the sense and nonsense of words.
This book is part of a series called, “Words are CATegorical”. These books are an absolute must for teaching or practicing parts of speech (or parts of a sentence). Each book teaches about parts of speech by doing so in a fun flowing rhyme-like style accompanied by silly pictures.
In each book, a definition for a particular part of speech is given, for example: “Verbs give sentences their action.” In addition, each book is also full of examples of that part of speech. For example, “Verbs are words like sneak and sniff, sneeze and seize and wheeze and whiff.”
These books provide a fun way to teach your child or students about parts of speech.
Although the book is very creative with using verbs and the illustration connects very well to the verbs being used, I did think it was a bit cluttered (illustration maybe?) hence the minus of one star. This book is actually a really good introduction to verbs to young students. Not only does it define what a verb is, but it also gives many examples. The rhymes throughout the book were very much appreciated, too.
Exploring and wrapping, connect and swap these are all words that we use almost daily and have one thing in common. They are verbs. This book brings verbs to life and reminds us of all of the different words and how we can use them to show just what action we want to.
This book is a great read with amazing art and fun characters that show us exactly what a verb is by showing the action and thought put behind each one.
This book would be a great addition to any classroom to expand the vocabulary and minds of all of the students in it.
As with all the others in this series, I got these to share with my children as a fun and cute way to discuss language and have not been disappointed. They are cute and engaging for kids.
This book rhymes, making it more fun to read. It gives you a lot of verb examples, brings up the subject, and talks about how verbs can also link a sentence together (subject compliment).
Part of an excellent series for kids about English grammar - a follow-up book about verbs, this one spends a little bit more time exploring helping verbs and linking verbs . . .
This is a great book to introduce a lesson about verbs, beginning at the first grade. This defines what a verb is, as well as provide examples. Also, it talks about different types of verbs, such as linking and helping verbs. It is a wonderful book because it is inclusive, and has great pictures to suit the needs of all students.
1. This book is good about showing verbs for an english lesson, but it can be confusing while you read it. The words are all over the page. It is a fun way for students to recognize verbs in a sentence. 2. This book shows students they can be creative with their words and writing can be different.
This book would be great to introduce action and linking verbs before a lesson. The illustrations do a great job of providing context for the verbs covered. Another great feature of this book is that each verb is highlighted as you read over it.
This was pretty good even though it was about verbs. It is nice that the page is broken up into sections to illustrate each sentence and verb in action.
Pretty cute. Why can't I think of this stuff and get it published? Could use with all grades perhaps as grammar lessons or review. They could have to come up with their own lists of verbs.
