A Game Of The Dead #1
The Duchy's Necromancer: A Game Of The Dead
Morgan Lovecraft had a problem. The world hated him for what he was, and what he could do.
Saved by Duke Kinson himself, Morgan finds a new life in the world of Dunnishire. Orphaned as a young teenager, he finds himself in a new world where making friends was easy. That all came crashing down the day he turned sixteen and found out he not only had a death affinity, but he was also a necromancer. For a time, all necromancers were put down before they could gain levels or power.
Morgan was born after that nonsense, but many of the old prejudices and hatred were still prevalent. Going from having friends to being an outcast once again, he hopes his scholarship to the Mages Academy will be a new turning point for him and a way to redeem himself.
Most people think of necromancer’s as beings of great power who could raise up hordes of the undead to do their bidding. Well, yes, that part was true. But necromancers were a fantastic utility class that could be both DPS as well as some minor healing and maybe… just maybe… cast resurrections.
All his planning, hopes, and dreams go out the window the first day of classes, when he is challenged to an honor duel. Making mortal enemies five minutes after walking into school? Being asked by the duchy to speak to the dead for them? Help them solve an assassination plot, corruption of public officials? Not wanting to be in the spotlight, the former Earth gamer finds himself right on center stage as he becomes The Duchy’s Necromancer!
What this book A fantasy LitRPG/GameLit progression based storyline. There are grownups in this book who act like grownups. They drink, they swear, they make bad jokes, and they fall in love. What’s not in this book? Harems. Sex scenes. Graphic or otherwise. There are plenty of jokes and innuendo about it, however.

Book one
I'm sorry but this book just doesn't work for me. Before you start flaming me in the comments let me explain.
The blurb says that necromancers are pretty much hated but tolerated in the Kingdom.
The MC himself says that he is disliked for his class. He is also filled with self loathing.
The honor duel wasn't much but still seemed forced just to give him a servant that he doesn't treat like a servant.
For someone who is supposed to be disliked he immediately gets a group of friends that feel like family?
His servant has never heard of pizza or chocolate yet burgers and cigarettes are normal?
Everyone seems to know about Earth but the lack of knowledge about the food was strange.
You get a hint that portals might have been a normal thing but for some reason were closed.
Why would an orphan from Earth be in an orphanage in this kingdom?
Why would the healer talk like a mishmash of surfer and Mexican?
If his class is so disliked how is he dating and sleeping with a teacher?
Why is that even allowed?
Why is he getting soul bound to a dragon in a low level dungeon? For a level six dungeon it was so easy.
Getting the extra classes just because he really wanted them was weird.
The more I read this the more questions I had, and not good ones. More confused and what the heck kind of questions.
You should remember that this is my opinion and you may enjoy the story.
3/10 The entire flow just felt off to me and caused me to drop it at 146 pages in.

Poorly done wish fulfillment
It's title says this book is a poorly done wish fulfillment, the MC is constantly given everything he could ever want with a little to no struggle. The antagonists are constantly doing incredibly dumb things supposedly inconvenience him, but never actually think through a plot so it all fails and ends up with the MC getting even more stuff.

Pretty good, but could use a bit more character and world development. The characters are a bit juvenile, which is mostly to be expected as they are 20ish. The exception is the supercentenarian that also acts like a teenager. Its pretty clear the author would like to write a smut novel, but decided to keep it almost entirely PG with constant innuendo and inappropriate responses... Such as a serious situation involving familial mortality being responed with a thats what she said joke. The story has good bones, if you can get through the poor depth of characters.

Fun book, will read next one
Fun book, no love triangle drama, which is why I typically go for harem books, I hate love triangle drama, or where some awesome girl gets left out sad or has to settle for someone else because of MC monogamy. With harem books I don't really run into that, but while MC seems to be monogamous so far, no girls missing out on MC due to it drama as of yet, nicely done there. I'll certainly read the second, and buy the audible books if that happens with at least hallway decent narrator. Honestly the quality of the book\story is right up there with Dakota Krout, E. William Brown, Randi Darren etc. It's also nice that the MC is getting action without pages of details, I'm kewl with details, but not when there's countless pages of it. Not having a cliffhanger while still having more stuff that needs doing is awesome as well. I hate cliffhangers as I'm sure most do.

Note to self: light on the litrpg/number aspect, but enjoyable and looking forward to next book.
The characters were fun, the class and spells made sense, the world-building was a bit light but worked for the story being told, the dialog (often an issue in books in the genre) was actually pretty good and natural sounding. Overall, a fun read and I will continue when I can get my hands on the next book.
My two main issues were how light the litrpg was. Barely one dungeon, light combat, ignore stats/notifications to deal with later, etc. Very light on the genre, more fantasy/isekai than litrpg.
Second, I hate it when the MC starts telling everyone their stats, how their spells work, and every little detail of their class and secrets. Ugh. I was screaming at the book, I was so annoyed.

cracking good read
But there are cracks. The story as is is excellent. It has fascinating glimpses of other, unspoken, stories. They don't spoil this one but leave plenty of room for what happened when, or what's the story there. Hopefully, some of these teasing glimpses will be given flesh and their own books. Which is not to say I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one for Morgan. Enjoy!

decent.
I am more into serious books. So this light hearted tale was ok for me but not my favorite. I gave it 3 stars because halfway through the book, the main character stops developing. He gains levels, but his personality doesn’t develop at all. Nothing really challenges him. if the book would have ended at the 50 percent mark i would have given it 4 stars. from 50 percent to about 90 percent, there is not any significant events.

Enjoyable Read
Very nice, straightforward read. I can recommend it to anybody looking to while away some time. I found the series after the third book had been published and I’ve enjoyed all three. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. They were well written and stayed right away from teenage angst and smut, which was a welcome change from many publications these days.

Really not a stand alone effort
The liberal mix of characters from 'The war of two worlds' is really too heavy for this to stand alone . Read the War of two worlds series first.
The book crashes in the middle as we seem to lose direction and then sum up months in a few pages. Seems like an editing issue.
All told though its a fun book to read.

Like many of the authors of this genre, they are way too anxious share the character sheet over and over and over. Especially a game we will never ever play.
This is worse with the audio book where skipping it is trickier than just having your eyes briefly glaze over.
Whole lot of 'everything is easy for the OP MC'. It's bubblegum for the brain.

Liked the carachters
Enjoyable to read.... Not too fast or slow... Well paced.
The characters could each have their own story... Loved pips girl, please explain the great cookie caper.

This has some really forced set up.
The combat is weak and unbalanced. The prejudice is obvious and unoriginal. The start is pretty pathetic. I wanted to see if different characters made for a change in the quality of the story, it does not.

I guess this is an Isekai ish book. But the entire book is marred by the CW drama that has little to do with anything. Nothing really moves forward, just these moronic YA/kids acting like prepubescent teens.

better than expected
I had this book saved since it first came out, I’m glad I finally decided to read it. Would love for it to be longer but the pace was enjoyable.

What is wrong with this writer
The mc is a whiny woe is me character, why do the writer think I want to read about a whiny dude? Instead he should be overjoyed that he has magic!!
