Tom Swan and the Siege of Belgrade #2

Tom Swan and the Siege of Belgrade: Part Two

Rate this book
Following on from Tom Swan and the Head of St George, Tom Swan and the Siege of Belgrade is the next instalment of the fast-paced serialised novel set in the turbulent Europe of the fifteenth century.Fifteenth Century Europe. Tom Swan is not a professional soldier. He's really a merchant and a scholar looking for remnants of Ancient Greece and Rome - temples, graves, pottery, fabulous animals, unicorn horns. But he also has a real talent for ending up in the midst of violence when he didn't mean to. Having used his wits to escape execution, he begins a series of adventures that take him to street duels in Italy, meetings with remarkable men - from Leonardo Da Vinci to Vlad Dracula - and from the intrigues of the War of the Roses to the fall of Constantinople.

direct sequel to #7 taking place in Rimini where brutal condotierre Malatesta holds sway while Tom Swan has to navigate very treacherous waters as an envoy of Bessarion, recruiter of troops from Malatesta's superfluous ones, while trying to get back the ring that was stolen in the previous book and of course get back at the beautiful and strong willed Demoiselle Iso who used Tom so handily in the earlier volume - of course if on one hand he can resist her and on the other if her father doesn't object as now Tom is fully in his power, while it is still not clear what Malatesta could object to, Tom resuming his affair with Iso, or Tom not resuming his affair with Iso or both; trickery, deception and overall very treacherous waters to navigate for our hero

Overall same general comments as for #7 (see below but essentially that the Italian installments are the best so far and this is no exception) and excellent stuff, the only complaint is that Belgrade is still kind of far and a change of scenery may do the hero good...

Another town in Italy survived! Another girl in Tom's bed causes more trouble than pleasure and a super fun adventure set in the 1450s continues. On to the Venice!

Very entertaining.

Each of these stories is almost impossible to put down. So very entertaining. The series and supporting cast is diverse and travels to often unexplored areas of the world at this time. Can’t wait to start the next section tonight and see how Swan does in Venice.

More adventure, as always

The swan story continues in fantastic fashion. This chapter contained a bit more intrigue than violence, but it’s simply another chapter in a fantastic epic!
