Ours to Protect

Rate this book
Socialite, Lily Montgomery, has done her best to stay out of the spotlight since her mother’s death. For five years, she’s carried the burden of being an heiress—felt the pressures of upholding her legacy. But she never once believed she was in danger.

Until her car is chased and run off the road.

Lily can’t shake the feeling that the horrific crash was more than a random act of violence. It felt personal. As if someone wanted her to feel terrified and helpless.

When her stepfather hires a security team to protect her, Lily prepares to be under constant watch for the next eight months—biding her time until she turns twenty-one and collects her inheritance, allowing her the independence she craves.

But Lily unexpectedly finds herself caught in a whirlwind of passion with her protectors.

Jackson. Elliot. River. Thomas.

The four formidable men give her solace and strength. And, together, they find the courage to face the demons of their past. But as their bonds deepen, will their connection be enough to protect her from the lingering dangers?

*Ours to Protect is book one in a why choose duet and ends on a cliffhanger. Please note that due to some dark themes and adult content, it is only recommended for readers 18 years and over. Proceed with caution. A list of content/triggers can be found in the author’s note at the beginning of the book.

Lily Montgomery is in trouble. She was in a wreck, and she's being stalked.

When her stepfather hires a company to protect her, she's kinda wary. These are four strangers who are going to be very close to her all the time. Very close.

Jax is the head honcho (maybe officially? If not, he definitely feels like he is). He is not impressed with Lily and her charmed life. We have Elliot, who's in control of the tech. Clark Kent. River, who's a charmer. And Tommy, who's living with some trauma.

Lily isn't what these guys ( ok, mainly Jax) are expecting. There's more to her than a pampered Princess. It was enjoyable when every layer was revealed.

This is very spicy. And there's some mystery as well. Hope to read book 2 soon!

I was gonna give this a 4, but that last scene with Jackson was REALLY narsty. He actually seems like a creep, and I can’t see myself enjoying him as a love interest. He slut shames Lily for sleeping with his dudes (because he thinks this 20 year old girl is playing with their hearts HUH?) and then proceeds to sleep with her too (again HUH?). What is this clown behavior sir?? He’s 38 by the way. Really rubbed me the wrong way. So yeah the last 50 pages of the book really ruined it for me unfortunately. Also these dudes are pretty bad at their jobs. You let her get got TWICE, saved her a grand total of zero times, and failed to look into the one obvious threat. Might want to think about a career change fellas.

The story had such good premise, but the mediocre writing did the book such an injustice.

It was as if the author wrote scenes and events, but did not have them affect any of the characters at all.

First, let's start with some of the most basic plot holes ever in existence. FMC is getting death threats and was almost killed at the start of the book where her step-father decides to hire bodyguards. Do the bodyguards check into her financial affairs? Nope. Do the bodyguards check into anyone in her immediate circle? Nope. Yet, they kept saying things like "something seems off." Do they check into any of the reports about the accident? Check for any additional cameras along the street that the FMC traveled on? Nope.

Now let's talk about the MMC's. No one had a distinct personality other than Jax, and he was just a bully, and of course a Dom in the making because we can't have a RH without people really liking BDSM.

I was just so disappointed in the author choosing to not do research into how bodyguarding works, or improving her story. It was as if she wanted certain events to happen, and they did, but she wanted them to happen in a vacuum.

FMC learns self-defense, but does she use it any of the three times that she could have? Nope.
Do the guys question her as to why she has so many scars on her body? Nope.
Do they look further into Richard? Nope.

Basically, these are the most inept bodyguards to have ever bodyguarded.

OH... MY... GOD!!!
THE CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!

I got an ARC for this and wow.
This book was sooooo good. This had me re-thinking everyone throughout the book. The relationship the guys had with each other was amazing they all shared past trauma built a bond on it. Yes we have a sword-crossing relationship in there too and they were perfect even when Lily was added to the mix.
All the guys and Lily are letting past trauma and secrets hold them back. I'm excited for book 2 to see where they go from this. And hopefully all secrets will be out and Lily gets to keep her men.

This was good! The writing wasn’t the best at first, but it got better as the book went on. I liked the bodyguard aspect of this. I do wish we got a little more character interactions, I just thought it was all a little fast especially with some of the people. This isn’t really Smutty until the end which is fine. This does end on a cliffhanger kind of so beware. Oh it also does have sword crossing.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Pullen's "Saved By Two" is one of my all time favorite comfort romances and I was soo excited to read this! Can say this book didn't disappoint 🫶🏻

It took me a bit to warm up to all the guys, especially Jax, but towards the end I loved them all. They all have different relationships with Lily, some developing more quickly, some less, but that is something I really appreciated and I feel we see too rarely in RH.

There wasn't tons of smut but a) the smut that was there was goood 🥵🥵 and b) if I had to choose between dozens of smut scenes and proper relationship development, I'll always choose the latter.

All the characters still have loads of backstory (or at least I think so) that we've yet to discover, though we did get hints. I wish we already knew more about what the guys went through on their last deployment but I guess I have to be patient 🙈

As this is the first in a series (yay!) we didn't yet get a conclusion to the stalker storyline either and imo this was more of a book to really introduce everyone (after all there are 5 MCs...) instead of a "proper" romantic suspense but I'm hopeful that's what we'll get in the sequel! I'm ready for some more action 😎

Thanks to the author for the free copy and I'll be looking forward to what comes next!

Oh my god… I don’t even know how to review this. The ending cliffhanger bro.
Everything about this book is so good! I loved it so much and I love the characters but the shock I’m feeling now is so bad.

I need the second book right now. I’m not gonna say anymore because I’m worried I say a spoiler so moving on. I can not choose who’s my favourite guy. They are all so good.

Jax is the more detached guy but he shows he cares with little things he does that I don’t think he realises.

Than we have Elliot who’s an adorable hacker. I think he’s so adorable and I love their little moments together.

Than you we have river who let’s be honest is a golden retriever and then last bit definitely not least we have Tommy who’s the little book worm!!

The moments they all have with lily are giggle worth honestly! I’m obsessed and need the second book right now.

Overall the plot was 10/10 absolutely amazing and the characters are even better lily deserves so much better and I’m glad she’s got the guys there to help her now. I’m keeping my eye out for the next book so I can read it asap! Please check TWs with this one because there are some heavy topics.

⭐️ 4.5 ⭐️

Ok let’s make one thing very clear I don’t know what L.S. Pullen puts in her books but this is the second time I’ve finished one of her books in one sitting. Her storylines and writing style is just so addictive that’s the only way I can explain it.
The plot was captivating and all the main characters were just so loveable. All four of the MMC’s Jackson, Elliot, River, Thomas were completely different yet I fell in love with all four of them so honestly… Lily …. I don’t blame ya darling.
Also HELLO ?! That cliffhanger! * grabs hold of the second book * I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

I liked this book alot. Very much a slow burn book but the tension and build up is so good. Loved the MMCs backgrounds and then sense of found family they had. Brutal cliffhanger and will be reading the next book straight away!

Plot: 3/5 • Smut: 2/5 ——> This draggggged until 3/4th of the way through, and then it finally got intresting. Ends of a cliffy. The jumble of men and who is with whom gets a little
confusing for a bit. Sword swapping = ☺️

A reverse harem / why choose book with spice and plot-

Socialite & Heiress Lily has a car accident when she is run off the road by an unknown attacker so for her safety and protection her stepfather Richard hires a security company to protect her. Lily has lived a sheltered and wealthy life she is shy & reserved, but caring & protective of the 2 people closest to her , her friend Avery and her little sister.

Jackson (Jax) owns the Guardian Elite security company and his team who are all ex military : River, Elliot & Tommy all become her bodyguards . I’m fan girling for the 4 MMCs their different characters and personalities complimented each other and I liked the different ways they formed their relationships with Lily.
Usually in reverse haram books some of the MMC's are better suited as side characters but in this book all 4 stood well as individual characters and added to the story. They were so well put together together.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book & I luv when a book has a good plot and allows time for story and character building and this book has both. I’m an imaginative reader so I enjoyed L.S Pullen's style of writing and it kept me engaged with the story . it's also written in multiple POVs.

I need to shout out about the spice in this book . The tension was building slowly slowly and then 💥 Bam the spice hits… and it was so worth it 💯. This is why I love slow burn 🔥 books the yearning & intensity and the build up . It synced and flowed so well with the story and it was blazing hot 🥵 🫠😮‍💨. Will I be a bit extra if I say it was poetic . I like to be extra thou 🤓. The spice even had its own plot and wasn't just spice on a page to create spice.

This is book 1 & I luv a good cliffhanger which this book has. I need book 2 so bad .. the ending thou. 😱

Wow!! What a book!

This book was free and so glad I downloaded it to give it a chance after so many dnf lately with some really good books thrown in between.

Lillith (h) has had a tough time recently after losing her mother and the added pressure of living up to her and being controlled by her step dad who is the father to her 12 year old sister mia. Litlth gets into a bad accident when someone is chasing her through the the streets and then precedes to ram there car into her causing it flip. She wakes up in hospital and is told by her step dad Richard that she will have bodyguards 24/7 after this and give her time to heal from having the cast and boot on.

The security team/bodyguard are all ex military and take any case and client seriously and are ordered to protect liltth at all times.

You have jax, river, Elliot and Tommy all with past and present scars from war and are still trying to ease back into normal life away from the army but still have issues that they are working through as a team and as individuals.

As time goes on after weeks of protection the guys all feel a new connection to liltth and in some cases that goes over the professional line but she feels the exact same way about them. The threats to liltth are still there and are escalating more now she has the guys around but it's her stepfather that has more of a issue with her being with the guys and makes his feelings known when he unleashed an heart breaking attack on her and from the looks of past scars it's not been the 1st time but it's what he said that makes you wonder what he has plans for liltth and if the guys are in time to stop Richard from doing something more deadly with the plans he has for liltth.

Slow burn but filled with s3xual tension
When the pace does heat up its 🔥🔥🔥🔥
No ow
No cheating (Elliot and river are together and all know)
Attempted aššualt of FMC
Mentions of past and present struggle from millitary

I said I would read 10 pages… yeahhh that happened 134 pages later and I couldn’t put this book down and read it in a day. Loved this story and ready for the second book in the series

Like with every book check triggers

Lily is a young women who has a lot on her shoulders
A lot is expected being a heiress. Who is due her inheritance when she turns 21

Living at the family home with her stepfather and her sister who comes home from school at the weekends is determined to make her mother proud and honour her memory. She’s not used to being in the spotlight till she has to step up and in honour of her mother to do her proud and continue what she started.

Before she has chance she’s involved in a serious car accident. Worried things aren’t as they seem her stepfather hires security for her

The four men that come into her life promising to protect her and keep her safe. Have the most amazing bonds and friendships. After being in the military and suffering injuries and trauma which brings them closer together and their relationships between them all is beautiful. Lily and the security team Jax, River, Elliot and Tommy soon become her protectors and each spend time with her and they build relationships, friendship and more. Which is nice to see these relationships growing and the new ones forming I love how L.S. Pulled has done this with these characters and took the time to really show each character and the relationships which are beautiful especially rivers and Elliot I love the dynamic between these two.

There’s some spice between different characters and it’s hooott.. hot… hoooottt 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🥵🥵🥵

The ending is OMFG I can’t even cope I need the next book now. This story was so good that I absolutely devoured this book and needing the next

Thoughts
I had the pleasure and honor of reading this story early.

Holy hell this story. I was only supposed to read for thirty minutes before calling it a night, but this story sucked me in. I didn't stop until that last page. It has all the trope's I loved with the added suspense.

I loved how Lilly spent time with each guy individually, forming friendships with them that started to grow into feelings. It made the why choose aspect real. Sometimes I find why choose to be hard to get behind but not this book. Another aspect of this book that was a surprise was the male/male aspect along with the why choose. Ms. Pullen didn't shy away from allowing Elliot and River to have spicy moments alone without Lilly, which is where some authors fall short for me.

All the guys have broken past with things they are trying to work through, and I love how Lilly is able to connect with each one with their shortcomings (in their eyes not hers.) My favorite guy so far is Tommy.

The suspense aspect kept me on my toes and even though this book is done with I'm still not sure if I know who is behind everything. This book does end on a cliffhanger which made me sad I kept trying to flip the page, but nothing happened. I am dying to find out what happens next and watch this family, Lilly and her guys, heal each other.

One of the first things that really stood out to me was how these men were each other’s safe space and how they instinctively wanted to be that for Lily as well. These men - Jackson (Jax), Elliot, River, & Thomas (Tommy) - all met when enlisted in the military. They all suffered differently while serving, and have worked closely together since.

I feel as though this book had a lot of the relationship building put into it to really set the foundation for what’s to come. It was nice to see the different ways the relationships progressed and at their own paces. I think L.S. Pullen did a great job of having Lily get to know the men individually, as well as showcase the inner dynamics of this “group”. I loved the bits of action we got and I can only assume there will be much more going forward. Even though I knew a cliffhanger was coming at some point, reading “To be continued…” STILL HURT TO SEE!

I typically avoid books with cliffhangers unless the next book is already released, but I knew this would be worth it. I’m definitely invested in the relationship these characters have built together and am excited to see what comes next! I will be setting a million reminders for the next book release!

Ohhh what a cliffhanger!! Why would you do this to me! 😩😩

I finally got round to being able to devour this book after a lot of stopping and starting and I loved it!

This book kicks right off into the action and I instantly felt invested in Lily's story. I love that the story slowly unravels and doesn't give you everything straight away. By the end there is still some level of mystery to which is amazing because I need the next installment now!

Enter the boys... 🫠🫠🫠. This story is a why choose trope and I am all here for it but if you're not into same sex encounters or polyamorous activity then this book might not be for you. It certainly got me a little hot under the collar 😏😏

I loved the diversity between all the male characters and that they have some depth to them. Also like Lily not all has been revealed so I look forward to getting to know them more.

I just want to wrap Lily up myself and keep her safe.

The plot is goood and the story really paces well. Lots of story and character development. It's written from multiple POV's. It's a slow burn for the spice to hit with a lot of tension but when it does it's perfect!! 🔥🔥🔥

This was my first LS Pullen book and I will definitely be diving into some of her other work. Thank you for letting me ARC read.

This book plot was intriguing to me because I love a bodyguard scenario and then add in they all are from the same military group sounded good. I will say the writing wasnt the best at the beginning alot of description and kinda filler when we needed maybe some more charaxter interaction especially with Lilly. I will say it was also hard for me to see these train men not completely pick up how disgusting Richard was....I mean I clocked in real quick. I know hes psycho not sure if he is the one who ran her off the road but all signs pint to yes. I loved Tommy so much but after the hotel she just kinda stop writing about him and his trauma. Elliott and River I mean hot and also in love so cute. But not really scratched a ton qith them. But Jax yikes he is 38 and acts like a 19 yeat old boy. I the self depreciation constantly. I hope she gets better with him. I am hoping the plot gets better and it really isnt all Richard.

Oh my god, I was lucky enough to be chosen for an ARC and when I say I couldn't put this down, I really couldn't! I have literally binged this book so quickly, I'm seriously disappointed I have to wait for the next one.

This has literally had me captivated all day, the different perspectives from each character, along with their back stories had me seriously gripped.

The POV from each character had me warming to each and everyone of them. Every single one of the boys has be captivated! God the chemistry is another level.

I went from laughing, to crying to being not able to breathe, I knew the cliff hanger was coming but I seriously was not prepared!

I am holding out for the follow up, hopefully I can breathe in the meantime.

This story really has it all, another fabulous story by L S Pullen.

Who doesn’t love a good why choose, age gap, ex-military brought in to protect a heiress (Lily), trope with four, yes FOUR ridiculously hot men?? Mix in a good bit of touch her and die and it’s a book made in heaven 🥰😍

It’s somewhat of a slow burn, but the spicy scenes are unreal👌🏻with the level of detail that goes into them 🥵🌶️

This was my second book by Leila Pullen and as the first I read (Saved by Two) where we met Tommy, Jack, Elliot and River it’s very well written with plenty story and smut to go round!

Word of warning there are a heap of trigger warnings so please do consider these and look after your mental health….and the blooming cliffhanger is just killing me, what?! Where?! Who?! Eh?! Couldn’t put this down and I cannot wait for the next instalment to find out what happens 🫣

The devil inside

WOW just I can't even begin to describe how this book made me feel. There are obviously 4 military men with their own issues but have made a brother family in the process of being out of the military now. Then there's Lily, like a mother to her much younger sister, a girl who lost so much with her mother dying, a step-father who I would wish on no one & a friend that would do anything for her. Her now protectors can't understand the feelings that she invokes in them all & how to deal with it. The gala is a turning point & Richard the step-father ends up showing what he's truly like. He only hired them for everyone to think that there was a threat when he was the threat. Now let's see what the guys do since he left the way he did & what like will finally do to end him.

Oh my... I loved this read! This story had my attention the whole time wanting to know what was going on and what was going to happen. I had my suspicions at the start of it but after getting further in, I feel like I might be right, now that I'm finished. This was just sooo good. The added bonus of spice was just 🔥. I enjoyed the guys closeness and all the relationships involved in this. The guys were all great in their own way and it's too hard to choose a favorite. I liked Lily's character and how she was with her sister and just how she was as a person. This book just had me trying to figure it all out and sadly it ended on a cliffhanger but I'm looking forward to reading the next one to tie it all up! 😊

What an epic read!!!!!

This is a slow burn read BUT so worth it and it ends on a CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!!

Superb writing 👌

So we saw Jax, River, Elliott and Tommy (Kid) in Saved By Two and know that they run a security company

Lilith, has had some trouble and her step dad Richard has assigned these men 😜 to be her protectors

Lilith, not very outgoing since her mums passing and wanting to protect her younger boarding schooled sister Mia, is grateful for her ‘protectors’ when it seems someone is out to get her, but why? For her money that she’s to inherit? A scorned relationship?

And when these men take protecting her to a ‘new level’ 🥵🥵🥵 and then there’s the pierced 🍆😜😜

Can not WAIT till the next one comes out 🤩

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 - Why Choose / Bodyguard
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 4 - MM / MMF

*ARC Reader*

Our FMC Lily is a socialite heiress desperately trying to uphold her mother’s legacy and stay alive long enough to cash in on her inheritance.

MMCs Jaxson, River, Elliot, and Tommy are ex special forces members hired to keep protect her.

This book is much more of a slow burn than I was expecting, but when it finally burns…it’s BURNS 🥵

Often, when reading Why Choose I find myself missing the connections between each character, that was not the case here. Although, it was a slow start I enjoyed getting to know each character’s background and history. I’m hopeful that this book sets up to focus more on the group dynamics in book two!

ALSO THAT CLIFFHANGER?! Harsh. 😅

From the very start I was gripped. I had so many questions. I wanted to know what was going on. Why would she think someone purposefully wrote her off the road? Who was she to need security? There was really good character building in this book and I loved each of the guys (maybe Tommy a little bit more). The storyline continued throughout the book. The book had 5 different characters points of view which you think it would get confusing but it didn't. It was actually very easy to follow as all of the characters were so different. It was very spicy from the 80% mark onwards which I enjoyed and although the tension was apparent all through the book I didn't expect it the way it happened. The ending was nasty (in the nicest way possible) 😁💕

This book is hot! Four ex-miltary men hired to protect a heiress from an unknown aggressor and the flames are lit almost immediately.

We met Tommy, Jack, Elliot and River in Saved by Two and now they move on to their next 'job' of protecting Lily, a heiress who has been run of the road and continues to receive threats.
From the start there is an attraction to her and as they get closer the treats appear to be coming from someone close to her.

There are a number of themes throughout the book that could be triggering to some, but all are written with an understanding and awareness to the story, making it difficult to put down. The book does end on a cliffhanger with quite a few questions and ideas in your head, and I cannot wait to see how the story ends. Enjoy!

This book … OMG it was amazing!
Four super hot bodyguards, ex military, possessive, multiple pierced peens, protective, why choose, spicy, slow burn!
It had everything and left me wanting more… this is the first book in the series and was left on a cliffhanger but my God it just makes me want more!
There was dirty talk, swords crossing, likeable characters.
All of the characters were a little broken in their own ways, they were all so lovable. You’ll get no spoilers from me but all I can say is please add this to your TBR!
The writing was amazing, the story excellent and I cannot wait for the next one.
