There’s nothing like a summer escape. A sun-kissed story about living life to the full.

In the month-from-hell, incurable optimist Anna has lost her father and her job, and her trademark smile is dimming. Clearing out her dad’s house, she discovers a postcard of a beautiful sandy beach and a map with a route plotted to the Greek island of Kefalonia. With an empty summer stretching ahead, Anna’s eyes stray to her father’s old camper van. Next thing she knows, she’s hitting the road with friend Demi in tow, on a course from Salford to Skala!

Over one unforgettable summer, Anna and Demi make their rickety way along the sparkling Mediterranean coast, the hot sun shining down on their frequent mishaps with cheerful local characters. It’s the trip of a lifetime, and the scent of lemons in the air – as well as an unexpected romance – are just what Anna needs to awaken her inner Greek goddess.

But there are big surprises in store when they arrive at the island paradise, which could change both women’s lives forever. And as summer comes to an end, Anna has to decide whether she has had enough of the Greek life, or whether this is only just the beginning…

A joyful, hilarious summer read, perfect for fans of Carole Matthews, Jenny Colgan and Sophie Kinsella.

Sun, sand, and a camper van. Sue Roberts descriptive storytelling always whisks me away to exotic locations. I could feel the wind in my hair, the sand in my toes, the sun on my skin. I could smell the salt from the sea, the spices of the food, and the gas from the camper van. Anna is at a crossroads, her beloved father has just passed away and she has accepted an offer of voluntary redundancy from her job. When she is cleaning out her fathers house she runs across a postcard of a gorgeous beach in Greece as well as a map of the trip her father took many years ago. Thinking there is no time like the present, Anna invites her elderly neighbor Demi who is from Greece to take on this adventure with her. So the two load up the camper van and the journey begins. France, Switzerland, Greece, or Bust.

This book was so fun! Loved traveling all these places through the pages of this book. Anna and Demi were such great characters. Anna had such a free spirit and Demi was so spirited. Loved how these women were over three decades apart yet so similar. They both had great emotional stories and loads of growth throughout the book. Demi confronts her past and Anna re-invents her future. There was also a splash of romance in the story that warmed my heart.

Some Like it Greek by Sue Roberts was a lovely entertaining afternoon read.

Anna and Demi were both likable and relatable characters. The characters develop well throughout the story as their thoughts and history are revealed through Anna's thoughts and Demi's conversations with Anna.

The plot moves smoothly and the descriptive writing by Ms. Roberts made France, Switzerland, Italy and Greece come to life as they traveled along the roads in the campervan. With a touch of romance for Anna and a heartfelt family reunion for Demi, I quickly escaped from the real world for a few hours. In these times of "stay at home orders" I found this book to provide me with an "armchair travel experience" that I relished.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Bookouture via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Just lovely! An emotional and fulfilling road trip to Greece

Some Like it Greek is a lovely story of two women forging an enduring friendship during a road trip from England to Greece.

Anna, 31yo, had just lost her father and been cheated by her never-do-well boyfriend. While boxing her father things, she finds some pictures of a road trip he made to Greece when he was young and is enchanted by the place and the experience.

When the bank she works for offered voluntary redundancies, Anna decided to take the money and go on a little adventure.

She needed a companion, and who better than her neighbor and family friend Demetria? Demetria, 69, had moved to England decades ago and never been back to her home country.

The story is simply lovely. Anna and Demetria’s friendship is beautifully deepened by their shared experiences.

There are some emotional moments, some fun bantering, and the challenge of accepting a friend as they come. Sometimes grumpy, sometimes needing the restroom every few miles.

The road trip is a treat of its own, especially in times of COVID-19. The author describes the many places they pass through in an immersive way, without overdoing it.

There is a lot of food and scents. I confess I felt quite hungry throughout the reading. If you are going to read it in the park or on the beach, bring a snack!

The cherry of the cake is a little summer romance with an adorable, yet elusive, Irishman.

Some Like it Greek is the perfect summer read! Highly recommended!

What a fantastic and delightful summer read!

Anna's father has just died, and Anna discovers that her father was planning to go to Greece, where he went when he was younger. So, Anna and her father's friend Demi embark on a road trip to Italy and Greece.

The characters were real and lovable. I fell in love with Anna because she was wonderful and easygoing, and found Demi hilarious.

It was the perfect read for this summer, because even as I'm at home, I feel like I've been to Greece, swam in its beaches and eaten Greek food. I will be re-reading this book every summer!

This was my first book by Sue Roberts and it won't definitely be the last one.

This is a lovely contemporary romance, a story about daring to change your life and take a chance - whilst still being careful!

The sudden death of her father leads Anna to clearing out his home with her sister. Whilst doing so she discovers some postcards showing his youthful adventure exploring Greece and maps showing he'd planned to return there. She's had the option to take redundancy and Anna decides to do just that - and to follow her father's planned route, driving her father's old camper van. She invites her father's contemporary and neighbour, Demi, to join her on this adventure. Demi is Greek but has lived in England for many decades, never returning to her home because she doesn't want to fly. This is a way to get there without flying, but there will be some great encounters on route, secrets from the past revealed, family reconnected and even an unforeseen romance!

It is a story packed with love, great characters, tasty food, beautiful scenery and a heartwarming reunion. I thoroughly enjoyed joining Anna and Demi on this camper van adventure. I'd actually been somewhat reticent about reading it as it involves the death of Anna's Dad and I'm still missing mine following his death in January but I need not have worried, this really is an uplifting story, one to put a huge smile on your face and having you laughing out loud at some of their interactions. Without giving a major spoiler away, one of my favourite encounters involved Demi and a cocky teen thief who got much more than he bargained for - just got to love Demi!

I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending this adventurous read to anyone looking for a well crafted romance to take you on a journey revisiting the past and moving on to the future with some beautiful countryside and very special characters.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and thoroughly enjoying doing so.

After reading As Greek As It Gets, I was looking forward to picking up my second Sue Roberts title, especially one that promised to be a laugh out loud romantic comedy.

While I did enjoy the book, I didn’t find it to be quite as funny as I was expecting, and for me the story was much more about friendship and family than romance. At times I felt the story seemed a bit repetitive, and often focused on all the food Anna ate during her travels than anything else.

Still an endearing quick read I enjoyed, I really enjoyed reading about the travels Anna took to find herself, and her friendship with Demi especially. 3.5 stars from me.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Były oliwki, sery i wina. Były plaże, monastyry i urocze, małe miejscowości.

I definitely like it Greek! Having visited the beautiful Santorini Island of Greece and having absolutely been awestruck by the beauty I blindly picked this book up. Being a fan of chick lit I found this book to be a satisfying reading experience.
The protagonist, Anna is in a terrible mental state due to a turn of disastrous and tragic events in a row. She has lost her father, and found out that her boyfriend is more of a cheater. A serendipity encounter with a beautiful beach postcard gives rise to an impromptu roadtrip to the island of Greece.
They travel from England through the Swiss Alps through France, Bologna, Italy and finally to Greece. I loved this roadtrip angle filled with the fun adventures and friendship between Demi and Anna. Unfortunately, being stuck at home and not being able to travel due to Covid-19, this book helped me live and experience roadtrips and travel vicariously with Anna and Demi.
Also, the whole Anna finding herself angle really made me relate and enjoy the journey of reading this book even more.

Within just a month, Anna has lost her father and her job.

Whilst clearing out her fathers house she finds a postcard and map with a route to the Greek island of Kefalonia marked out on it. Anna has no plans for the immediate future and before long she has the idea of driving her fathers old camper van to Greece along the route mapped out.

Anna doesn't take this road trip along though. She takes along her father's friend, Demi who originally hails from Kefalonia.

As Anna and Demi make their way from Manchester via Friance and Italy to the beautiful mediterranean island, they meet lots of characters and come to terms with where they both are in their lives.

I didn't find a great deal of character enrichment in this book. The descriptions of the countries that the women drive through are fantastic and the sights and smells really come alive. but there wasn't a lot of depth.
I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley.

As this book started – Anna finds her boyfriend is a cheat, she loses her lovely father, her relationship with her sister is distinctly wobbly, and to cap it all she’s then made redundant – I did rather wonder if this was going to be the light uplifting read I really wanted it to be. But worry not, things soon take an upturn – she finds photos of her dad’s time in Kefalonia as a young man, and a map all marked out for a planned return there. She has her redundancy money, the fish seller’s van he’d converted into a camper van is sitting on the drive – why not do the trip for him, and take some of his ashes to the island he loved? But not on her own. Her father’s neighbour Demi (now on the brink of her 70s) has long wanted to heal the relationship with her family: they live on the island, near Sami, and her fear of flying has made it impossible until now.

So off they set – a journey of discovery in many ways, as Demi has a few more deeply hidden secrets than it appears, and Anna slowly regains her confidence and self esteem in the company of a supportive (well, most of the time!) friend. It’s a very long drive from Salford – and we follow their journey across Europe to catch the ferry to Sami, stopping off along the way, meeting new friends as they do, and their own friendship deepens. I do think I might have preferred a slightly less extended journey – I just wanted to get to Kefalonia and whatever might be waiting there – but I did settle into the pace, moving from campsite to campsite, sometimes breaking the journey, and the way the story and characters developed.

There’s a romance in the book, a really gentle one that I might not have been entirely convinced by at first – but he’s a nice guy, and it does give a good shape to Anna’s story, with a little happiness and a few rather nice surprises. But perhaps the biggest surprises are in Demi’s story – a bit of unexpected drama (and a few laughs) when they first arrive, a few secrets uncovered, and some rather large issues ultimately resolved.

The Kefalonian setting is every bit as beautifully described as I wanted it to be: I’m so glad Anna takes herself off to Fiskardo, because I rather loved it there too. And the food descriptions are a mouth-watering delight – to be honest, I was already salivating from the lamb with tomatoes and onions that Demi cooked back in Salford, and things just got better and better in the run up to the feast for Demi’s birthday.

It’s a lovely story and very well told, but I might have liked just a little more tension and conflict – the problems and challenges were resolved a little more easily than I wanted them to be at times. But if you’re looking for a really heart-warming and feel good story, I think you’ll love this one – with a lovely road trip and destination thrown in, some well-drawn characters, and a few good laughs too. Definitely one for your sun lounger in the garden, should the sun come out for us again… I enjoyed it.

I really loved this incredibly summery book with its fabulous road trip from Manchester to Kefalalonia in a camper van, just Anna and Demi who is 69, used to be good friends with Anna's dad while he was alive and is Greek, but scared of flying so hasn't seen her family for many years.

Although the book is from Anna's point of view, it is Demi's story that really captured my attention. She is a fabulous character and has reasons for being nervous about her return to her home country, However given the whole Greece set bit of the book is the second half I can't really talk about it as that would be blatant spoilers.

The road trip though was really great, and good to meet other people travelling through the various places, and some friendships struck up everywhere, plus one gorgeous guy who keeps cropping up.

It's a really enjoyable story with Sue Roberts doing as I've come to expect and giving fabulous descriptions of the places visited, so that you can feel the heat, smell the food and feel like you are actually there. And Demi's story is well worth reading, its rather moving and the rest of the time she is just lovely and so friendly.

It's another entertaining story from an author I really love.

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I have read honestly and voluntarily.

This book had... a lot going on. There were so many converging stories that it felt like none of them were entirely well done. Anna misses her father. Anna has job trouble. Anna and Liz have a troubled sibling relationship. Anna meets a handsome stranger. Demi has hidden secrets from her past. The list goes on. The characters were faced with obstacle after obstacle, but each one seemed to be resolved in the blink of an eye, by the most remarkable of coincidences. It was just difficult to believe as a reader and I found myself getting increasingly frustrated by each encounter.

The second half of the book picked up slightly from the first. And there's no denying that the descriptions of the food and the scenery were beautiful. But in the end I still couldn't get past my feeling that each and every plot point got wrapped up with a neat and tidy (and not altogether interestingly colored) bow.

Reading the cover description, it's easy to believe this novel will be a quick, fun summer beach read. And maybe for some, that's what it will be. Who knows? But for me, it was a bit of a disappointment.

The author takes us on a road trip. We travel from the UK to France, Italy to finally arrive at our destination : Greece.

We learn a bit about history on our drive and it might be interesting to take a notebook and write down some (or all) of the tips that are worth a visit if you like those countries.

It was nice to see how Anna developed, learned to put herself first and as the author pointed out: no one is certain that there will be a tomorrow. So grab every chance you get to achieve your dreams and happiness.

And then there is Demi: a very fit and spritely septuagenarian who is full of life. What will this trip have in store for her…?

A great story that put a smile on my face and warmed my heart. It felt so real that is was as if I traveled with them. 5 stars.

Thank you, Sue Roberts and Bookouture.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to review Some Like it Greek by Sue Roberts.

So, I picked this book because , just like everyone else right now, I’m stuck. I’m dying to travel and can’t because of the pandemic. I think this would normally be a beach read, but right now it’s a get out of Covid-19 book.

This is a story of a woman who takes a trip when her whole life is turned upside down. She travels from her home in England all the way to Greece with an older lady and they have a life changing adventure in a camper van. The descriptions of places and foods really took me there. This book will put you in the mood to get outside and have a picnic if nothing else.

There is a fair amount of romance in here, but it's not overwhelming. Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed reading Some Like it Greek and getting to know the characters; they felt like old friends. It was fun to travel along with Anna and Demi and enjoy their adventures and family history and stories. For a couple of hours, I was transported to many wonderful locations that sound beautiful and rich with history and experiences. Anna finds information that her father may have been planning to return to Greece, where he visited and worked as a young man. She decides to take a road trip, travel to the same places her father went, and spread his ashes after his recent death. I love the line in the book when one character asks, "What's the occasion?" and the answer is, "Life is the occasion. Live it."

Anna and her friend Demi travel from England through the Swiss Alps into France, then Bologna, Italy and into Greece.

Unlike the book and Anna finally saying that nothing feels uncertain to her anymore, that is my problem, everything is feeling uncertain for me. That is why I love to read so much; for a brief amount of time, I can transport myself into the books' lives and destinations and escape. I will check out other books by Sue Roberts as I enjoyed her writing style and storytelling.

I enjoyed this book. From beginning to end I really liked following Anna's story and especially felt connected to her sister Liz, who I wish we had more of. I also appreciated that while we had a love interest this story was focused on Demi and Anna's journey rather than focusing on the romance side of things. Their stories were more important.

In a few weeks that have taken her through the death of her father, an argument with her sister at the funeral, the break up with her cheating boyfriend and requests for voluntary redundancies at work, Anna makes a life changing decision and sets off to drive to Greece with 69 year old Demi. Their adventures along the way and once they arrive are very funny and this would make the perfect holiday read, particularly on a Greek beach. Recommended.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. The last few books I have read have been a bit heavy so I was really looking forward to a change of pace with this one.

This book is the perfect summer escapism. Given the current climate in the world, I am not going to be going abroad this year but with this book, I don't think I need to. Sue describes such wonderful places with such detail that I felt like I was right there with Anna and Demi. I have definitely added some places to my bucket list after this book. They visit such wonderful places and eat all the food. I was quite jealous of the food!

I'm definitely yearning for a road trip through Europe after reading this. I'm also wanting another trip to Greece. I've been to a few places in Greece and its islands but I've not been to Kefalonia. I think it will have to be my next trip. I'm part greek and I love visiting. I love the food, the atmosphere and did I mention the food!

Anna and Demi are such great characters. The main character is Anna but Demi is such a character that you just have to speak about her too. For a 69-year-old she's doing very well! Anna is at a crossroads and is trying to figure out where to go with her life. I think it's something we can all relate to. There is a little romance in this book too but the main focus is Anna and Demi and their journey.

If you are in need of an escapism book full of beautiful locations as well as a little romance then this is for you.

Grieving the loss of her beloved father, Anna finds herself at a bit of a crossroads in her life. She has fallen out with her sister, is facing redundancy from work and has recently discovered her boyfriend Joel has been cheating on her. Whilst sorting through her father’s belongings she discovers some post cards from a road trip to Greece he took many years ago. She then finds a map showing the route he took, and it seems he planned to re-create the trip before he sadly passed away. Anna makes the brave decision to make the trip in his memory using his old camper van. Soon Anna is on the road with family friend Demi for company. Demi is originally from Greece and decides to return home to see her family who she hasn’t seen since she was a young girl.

What a delightful book this was! This is the second book by Sue Roberts I have read this summer and the second one set in Greece, my favourite book location and I loved both of them. This book opens with Anna facing redundancy and I did have a squirmy moment because that situation is tad close to home at the moment. However, I knew this book was likely to show Anna taking a chance and her life ending up better for it. It was nice to read a story that showed something good can come from redundancy.

Anna was an immediately likable character who is having a bit of a hard time and I really empathised with her. I thought she was really brave making the decision to leave her job and take some time to consider what she really wanted to do. Our other main character is Demi and I loved her too. She was 70 and such a kick butt lady who made me laugh on so may occasions. One in particular stood out to me when the ladies reached Greece and encountered some unsavoury characters. Demi and Anna also had such a fabulous relationship and dynamic between them too which was lovely to read.

I loved the fact that this book wasn’t just set in Greece. We followed Anna and Demi as they road tripped to France, Italy and the Greece. Once they arrived Demi spent time with her family whilst Anna explored various places in Kefalonia. I adore books that feature travel and road trips are a particular favourite of mine. Hubby and I love a road trip, so I always enjoy reading about them as it reminds me of our trips. The descriptions of the places the ladies visited were fantastic, I felt as if I was there experiencing the trip with them. They stayed in the Italian mountains and Anna explored areas of Kefalonia including Sami, Fiskardo and Skala. Sue’s descriptions brought the settings to life to the point that I didn’t need to look these places up as I usually would. Although, of course I did look them up afterwards, reading all of these books set in Greece keeps giving me ideas of new places to visit!

I feel like I need to take a moment to mention and appreciate the food descriptions in this book. I can only but imagine how tasty Greek food is having never visited myself, but I feel Sue captured how tasty the food in Greece is. My mouth was watering the whole time I was reading. One thing I really liked about the story was Anna hardly ever dinned alone as there were always nice families near by offering her a place to eat with them. This applied also when Demi and Anna were together. They were always making friends along the way. As I have mentioned I have never been to Greece, but my nan always told me how hospitable people in Greece are from her experiences of visiting. Every time Anna made friends with someone who invited her to eat with them. it reminded me of the scene in Shirley Valentine where Shirley is eating alone and is rescued by ‘Janette and Dougie from Manchester!’ Although everyone Anna met was so lovely. (I am sorry if no one else got that reference)

It is through meeting lots of people along the way that Anna met Dara who was traveling alone. They meet before the ladies reach Greece when he helped them out of a little bit of trouble and keep in touch through the rest of their trips. The is where a sprinkle of romance came in which of course I loved because I love a little romance! What I also liked about the two books of Sue’s that I have read is the fact that they feature romance, but it never takes over the plot. Both books centre more on women taking time for themselves, having experiences that ultimately see them grow so much.

I also really enjoyed the plot surrounding Demi, that is quite an integral part of the story. I thought Demi would be a side character, a travel companion for Anna but their stories are equally important to the plot. I don’t want to give anything away anything about Demi’s story as it was one of my favourite part’s, so I don’t want to spoil anyone. Demi was just a lovely lady and really deserved a happy ending.

Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough. The setting, description of the setting, the food, the characters, the plot, every part of it was just top notch. I was originally going to give this book 4.5 stars but as I was writing this review, I realised I couldn’t think of anything I didn’t like or anything I think could have been better. It was pure sunshine the rather rainy day on which I read it.

Before saying anything else, I would like to thank NetGalley and the author for letting me read this masterpiece as an e-ARC.

OMG. A full 5 stars from my side. Where do I begin? It was such a fun read. I was so engrossed in this book that I put off writing my research paper (that counts something, right?). It was sooo amazing and beautiful read. I liked how Anna learned so many things about life. How she was open to a change and how she accepted her flaws and embraced herself and everything that life threw at her. I loved her sister, Liz too. I am so so happy for her (read it and you will know what I'm tallking about, the big news). I love Anna's friendship with Roz. They were so sincere in their friendship with each other. And Demi! Sorry Demi for being annoyed with at the beginning of the journey. But, I loved everything about you and then later, I was no longer annoyed (is that okay now?) Her lifestory broke my heart. I so so wanted her happy ending (if you know what I mean! Don't want it to spoil it for you readers)

I am glad Anna made a decision about her job/career. That was the beginning of a change and wonderful adventure. One more thing that I liked about this book is that how little Joel was discussed. It was good thing. It was necessary for Anna's character building but it was precise and to the point. In my opinion, the author did a wonderful job.

I was a bit doubtfuland suspicious about Dara somewhere around chapter 20+. But that's the charm of the story to keep making the reader to guess, right? Not to forget the wild guess (*clue: Demi)I made. But that wouldn't have made much sense.
I am glad whatever happened in the end.

Ohh and how can I forget about the beautiful adventures of Anna and Demi. I so so want to travel. I wish I could. (It sparked the thirst of travelling inside me).

The best thing about the book is that it is full of so many meaningful words. There is so much wisdom in it and I don't mean that complicated philosophical theories that one finds difficult to understanding but rather simple and easy that makes one ponder. Here are few of the examples:

...I guess sometimes in life, we have to let go of the past and move on.
...If Dad's paasing has taught me anything, it's that you should never be too busy to check in with people.
...Snippets of a life once lived now consigned to a dustbin. I realise that if we're not ruthless about getting rid of stuff, nothing will ever get thrown away.
...Tomorrow is promised to no one, yet we take it for granted that we have have so much time to catch up with people...
...it's that friendship come in all shaped and sizes and that we should keep an open mind to possibilities.
..... I wonder whether the iniverse tries to balance things for us so life doesn't become too unbearable.
... in life there are opportunities for people to reconcile, should they wish to do so.
I could go on and on about the quotes but I think now you know what I meant. It's a must read. And I would definitely buy it once it gets released because I want it in my collection. Highly recommended.

A perfect getaway take your troubles and set them to the side read. Anna has been at the same job since leaving school, and with her relationship of five years falling apart, the death of her father, and having some harsh words with her sister Liz, she’s ready for something new. Voluntary redundancy at the bank offers her a choice, one that she was thinking about until she found photos and maps that her father was working on. He’d travelled before he married, and always shared stories with his daughters about his ‘European Tour’ - and had remodeled his old fishmonger’s van into a camper van. Anna is thinking she could just take redundancy money and travel – no children, no boyfriend and no job means that she has the opportunity. And with her father’s next-door neighbor Demi talking to her about her father’s adventures and her own loneliness since her husband passed, the two decide to drive to Kefalonia where Demi can see her family and Anna can travel in her father’s footsteps.

One of the reasons I adore Roberts’ books is her getaway to think and rediscover your joy plotlines, with characters that you want to know. Demi is almost seventy Greek lady who never forgets her home, but has brought life, acceptance and joy to the lives of others. At thirty, Anna has hit a crossroad in her life, after taking the ‘safe’ route all the time, this is her first chance since taking a month after leaving school where she and friends camped in France to really travel and see some of the world. Driving the camper van is a logical (and mostly cost-effective) way to get to Greece, stopping along the way in France and Italy to just enjoy the trip – and bonus, she and Demi have time to talk, discover one another, and Anna has the opportunity to learn more about her father’s early years, and get some advice from someone who grabs life by the horns.

When you add in subplots of Dara – an Irishman travelling to avoid/ heal his own grief and a secret that is the reason Demi moved from Greece, added to the descriptions of food, places and simple joys, the book is a ‘go here –find that’ travel guide for your own trip to Greece. Added bonus is the happy endings with new outlooks for all the characters, and a wonderful escape for the reader!

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This book is such a perfect read for the situation we all find ourselves in right now! We can get all the feels from this book, sad and emotional, fun, and laughter, friendship, adventure and love! While most of us can’t get away for those much needed and desired holidays we can sit back, enjoy the adventure, the beauty and the culture in this book!

So Anna has had a truely horrendous time when her life is turned upside down by the numerous awful events which quickly take place in her life! One of those events being the death of her dearest father!

When Anna is packing her fathers belongings she comes across some photos and post cards of a trip he took when he was young to a beautiful Greek Island called Kefalonia. When Anna realises her father was planning a road trip back to Kefalonia, between that and the photos, she is inspired to go on the road trip he planned herself!

She uses another of her heartbreaking events (the redundancy from her job) to fund this trip and to make it happen! However she realises that she could do with some company and who better to ask than her next door neighbour Demetria! Demetria is Greek however she has lived in England for such a long time and has never managed to bring herself to go back to her home land, so this is the perfect opportunity!

How will they get on? Will they both get what they want from their trip?

This is honestly such a lovely read, one filled with likeable and relatable characters, with a budding friendship and a lot of laughter!

It’s such a heart warming story with a beautiful romance and set in such a stunning country! This was one of my favourite things about the book, the descriptions of how beautiful the places are that they visit, the food the culture, all brought back my very own memories of a holiday to Greece and also living in the Greek half of Cyprus! The author has done an absolutely fantastic job of making you feel like you are there!…. and now I miss the Greek food even MORE!

Don’t get me wrong at times it was also emotional but it fitted perfectly and made the story even more enjoyable!

Overall this is quick, easy to read, fun story, with a little sadness, a lot of laughter and a tonne of self discovery! I’m so happy to give this book a very much deserved 4 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

A perfect summer read!

I really wanted to love this book--it had an adorable cover, took place in Greece (where my parents used to live, and I've visited) and was premised on a young protagonist and quirky older neighbor roadtripping together. So much potential! But ultimately, so little happened in this book I hardly have anything to talk about. What did happened was presented in such a way that made it utterly boring. Anna decides to take a road trip from England to Greece with her 70-year-old neighbor to scatter her dad's ashes in the place he loved vising as a young man. While on this journey, Anna meets a handsome traveler and her neighbor reconnects with family. There are no moments of excitement, intrigue, or romance in this book. The budding romance between Anna and the traveler (Dana) feels so forced, or at least unexplained, you wonder why they're together at all, or, I guess, why it's more than a vacation fling. Nothing in the novel makes me believe these two are destined for each other. I also find it incredibly implausible that Anna would go from a well-to-do corporate job to becoming a hairdresser. Not because that's a bad career choice, but because it requires numerous steps of additional schooling, licensure, and training before she can make the transition. It would have made much more sense for her to pick up something with less transition steps, even within the creative field, like painting or photography. Everything else is incredibly predictable, presented either in long descriptive paragraphs that read more like a travel guide than a novel or incredibly stilted dialogue that feels too formal for actual speech. I would say the novel could benefit from MORE dialogue, instead of so much time of Anna by herself or alone with her thoughts , but I'm not sure that would make a difference. The book is also entirely lacking in humor. Sure, there are moments of amusement (like the 70-yo beating up some thieves), but nothing is really FUNNY in a way that makes me want to laugh. This book is entirely forgettable, but at least it was a quick read.

This is the first book I have read from this author and thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book! This is the honest review totally based on my opinion.

In a month, Anna loses everything--first her relationship with Joel, then she lost her father from a heart attack and then she lost her job. It seems to Anna that she is living in hell. While clearing out her father's house, Anna discovers a stack of photos and postcards belonging to her father, when her father was young and was travelling to the Greek Island of Kefalonia. Using the money of redundancy she got from the bank, she decides to embark on a road trip to Kefalonia to reminisce her father's memories and she is accompanied by Demi, a fellow friendly neighbor who is also Greek and who seems to be having some second thoughts about going to Greece. Towards their journey, they encounter surprises, making new friends, even finding some romance and also some fun!

This book is actually fun and quick to read. I have never been to Greece so reading this book, made me think that I was in Greece with Anna and Demi. The story is told from the complete perspective of Anna so as a reader you get to enjoy the Greek culture, Greek food (of course I have tried Greek food) and of course the perfect sceneries and descriptions given by the author, as I picture the sandy warm beaches and places around the island of Kefalonia. I just like how warm and friendly this book is and reading this book made me wish I can go to Greece too! Even the descriptions of the road trip, as both Anna and Demi go through France then through the Swiss Alps and Italy also created the image in my head as what the scenery and places look like. Truly enjoyed reading the book

This book is a heartwarming book to read, filled with laughter and romance, a perfect read for summer. Oh not to mention this book will take you to the journey to Greece along with Anna and Demi. Totally worth reading and is also a quick read. Worth five stars!

If you have ever thought about a road trip from the UK through Europe to Greece then this is the book you need to pick up. The synopsis for this book gives such a wonderful idea of what you are going to get, but the author has exceeded my expectations as I journey with Anna and Demi through France, across the Alps, into Italy and onto Demi's childhood home in Greece.

The is an age gap between the women and the author pulled off their friendship with such natural ease. While Demi is older she is so full of life and energy more so than her younger friend. Anna takes advantage of voluntary redundancy in a firm she has worked in for 12 years and decides to recreate her fathers trip in his old converted fish van. Demi wants to return after too long away from her family as well as for a more personal reason.

This is just an amazing read and with such an easy flow to it. The main female characters have an easy companionship that really suits the style of the story. It is also a chance for them to get to know each other better and also make some of their own personal realisations. In essence, a story that is about family, relationships, friendships and realisations.

Then there is Dara! Yeah, a little bit of a swoon moment here! He sounds so amazing, yes there is a small romantic aspect to the story but one with doubts, what if's because after all, a holiday fling is just a holiday fling!

A gorgeous read from start to finish that has left me wanting to try numerous Greek dishes from the mouthwatering descriptions the author gives. There is an obvious affinity for this area and culture as the love of the food, people and location just oozes from the pages.

I loved this book, the story, descriptions, the characters, food and well... yeah pretty much everything about the story. It is one I would absolutely recommend.

In the space of a month Anna has had to deal with the death of her father and her job and she is struggling to maintain her usual optimism. Whilst clearing out her fathers bits she comes across a postcard of a beautiful sandy beach and a map with a route planned taking the traveller to Kefalonia.

With little else on the horizon Anna decides to follow the route planned by her father, in his old camper van, with her dad’s neighbour Demi in tow. Demi is originally from Greece and hasn’t seen her family in years, however as they get closer to their destination it is clear that there is more to her story that Anna first thought.

The story follows their travels and the various escapades hey have and the people they meet. There is a lot of detail about the journey and the various locations they end up in which I found distracting from the main story, at times it felt a bit like a travel book.

The story has a few twists in it which kept it interesting but at the same time did not come as much of a surprise. I felt the author gave a number of hints of what was to come that it felt a bit predictable, as if you knew where the story was going to get there.

With regard to the love interest, again I could see where it was going and what the likely outcome was going to be. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, sometimes it is nice to read something that you can see the story unfolding and know it is going to reach the happy ever after you are expecting.

The ending for me was obvious, it was very much the last seen in a romance film and I think I would have liked it to be a bit more original.

Some Like It Greek was the charming story of Anna, who after losing her father, and taking a redundancy at work, decides to take the trip to Greece that her father was planning before his passing. She takes along her father's neighbor, and friend, Demi, who hasn't been home to Greece to see her family in over 40 years. While on the trip Anna has to face what will become of her future , while Demi has to confront the past that she left behind.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I thought this was going to be just another cutesy, cookie cutter romance. I was very wrong. While, yes, Anna and Demi did meet a rather charming Irishman on their travels, the story was more about Anna coming to terms with her life, and her future and Demi dealing with seeing her family again and why she left Greece in the first place. I really loved the relationship between the two main characters. It was such an unlikely friendship, given their age gaps. I also loved how relatable the author made Anna and how much I wanted to really meet Demi. Lastly, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the book. The author made me feel like I was in Greece with them. I could smell the salt from the ocean, taste the delicious lamb stew, and feel the sand in between my toes on the white sandy beaches.

I really enjoyed this book. it was so heartwarming and lovely. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cute romance/women's fiction book.
