I enjoyed this one but not as much as the others in her series. This is Robinson’s 4th book in the A12 series. These books really need to be read in order and from the beginning to get a good feel for them. While I am not generally a big fan of serials, I do anxiously wait for these books to come out.
Dath is the sweetest and kindest demon of the tribe. Or at least he had been. With the arrival of his human mate, the two become essentially inseparable, their behavior unlike that of other demon/human pairings or even any other matings the demons can remember. So, the members of the tribe forcibly remove Deja well away from Dath and barricade him in his room. He begins to change into a rage filled creature that only calms when they are reunited. Of course, nothing is ever easy and Dath is convinced he can’t mate a human despite his all-consuming desire to be an honorable male and do so. Part of the story is him coming to terms with this and learning the reasons behind the change and his own misinterpretations.
However, I felt this book just had a lot more thrown into it. It was great to really learn about the events that happened to the members of the tribe as very young children, as well as having Dath and Deja’s story told. But, also learning about the Chosen, another tease about the Hands involvement, and then having so many more females sent off at once and for more than one reason, just seemed like too much.
The story is told in a dual-person POV. While I enjoyed it, I really felt it was more of a bridge than anything, maybe for the next 2 or 3 books at least. I am hoping that these plot teasers are fleshed out in the next couple because I was left with many more questions than the other books.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
