Jolly Copper is one of the few people who know the world is on the brink of cataclysmic destruction.... not because he had any scientific knowledge or prophetic dreams, but because he is nosey and read what was on a fellow bus passenger's phone one day.He learns there will be an unprecedented series of natural disasters, and the expected grand finale disaster is predicted to be a tidal wave massive enough to swallow half the globe. His discovery leads him to exhaust all his funds making relentless preparations, transforming Jolly into a modern-day Noah. However, only those closest to him believe him, while others around him see him as delusional. That is … until it all begins.Suddenly, "delusional" Jolly is now the expert...but, really, he’s not. He’s just a single father doing all he can to make sure he and his daughter survive.Even the best laid out plans can go awry, and despite everything he did and organized, Jolly and his family find themselves like everyone else … in the middle of it all at the end of the world. Can Jolly keep it together enough to keep his family and those he loves alive?
I love this author's post apocalypse books. Take that back. I love ALL of her books. Where does she vets these storylines. So unique. Definitely recommend this read.
For quite awhile I could not figure out if this was a comedy or a survival story. Much of it was laughable. A family of older parents with a grown son and the father never speaks because his wife talks too much….A neurotic adult son who gets into two real disasters. The family of people who don’t follow their own plans of survival. Saving photos is more important than saving one’s own life. Last minute shopping is more important than getting to a boat during a flood. Only in this author’s imagination would any of her main characters survive. But the joke is on me because I actually read this book.
The book grabs you from the first page and doesn't stop. Fast read and entertaining. Thought the ending was anticlimactic and a bit rushed, but enjoyed the story.
The story isn’t very believable or good but it would maybe be readable if it was better structured and edited. The author made the inexplicable choice of simply hitting autocorrect or spell check??? and replacing words with other words that don’t make sense. In one paragraph, two kids meet and “they were both televised” which makes literally no sense in context and it’s impossible to tell what the author actually meant. In another, the girlfriend’s parents “ran away after the nursery” which also makes no sense in context. The end makes no sense at all (where are they? what happened?) and it is simply confusing. Honestly, there’s no way that any of these five star reviews can be real. It’s baffling.
I can give this 2.5 ⭐️. This was fast paced and short. The beginning was promising and well written… but it went a little downhill for me after that. It’s an apocalyptic story but there were so many things that were not believable. The son becoming obsessed with a website called the watchers and immediately believing everything and everyone. Building Noah’s Ark in his 6th story apartment. Mom stopping at the crowded store to shop when things are clearly bad instead of going to her sons where there were already supplies. There were also some grammar errors. But I finished it and it was entertaining.
This is a fairly short, stand-alone book. The science behind how this disaster would occur is very murky and quite unlikely but I moved on. As with a lot of her books, this has a lot of editing issues and that was after I decided to ignore a narrative style with choppy sentences (e.g., should be dessert and not desert, stitch and not stich...etc, etc). The characters and pace of the story was quirky but interesting and kind of had a Wes Anderson movie vibe. I like the positive ending though the outcome for the characters was unbelievably serendipitous and too good to be true.
Struggled between a 2 & 3. Wasn't sure if Jolly was supposed to be brilliant or an idiot. Brilliant in that he had foresight to get a boat, secure it in the best location, and have a detailed plan B. Idiot in that the boat wasn't prepacked with everything needed like water, medicine non-perishable food, clothes, etc. Once West Coast was hit he nonchalantly followed a 72 hour countdown (since mother nature was definitely going to stay on schedule), even sleeping an extra night and figured they could leave in the morning after packing. And oh yeah let his easily distracted parents to go home and pack and they can just meet them in the morning. And after being stuck in his apartment they leave to find the family who left on their own, not factoring in if they die, so does everyone in his apartment. Also was waiting for someone to try and steal his boat as he wasn't too tight lipped keeping it a secret. Was close to pulling a DNF.

Jolly is a bona fide worrier. He gets stressed out about everything, in an attempt to manage his anxiety he makes plans. He really didn’t want to take the mountain road, he didn’t think it was safe but if the weather stayed clear he agreed that yes they could go that way.
His wife wanted to stop at the roadside cafe, but Jolly wanted to get off the mountain. Things did not go according to plan. After the accident his therapist was frustrated with him because Jolly wanted to live in isolation. He had a job working remotely from home, finally he agreed to get a hobby.
When he read someone’s phone screen over their shoulder on the train he didn’t expect his new “hobby” to be preparing an evacuation plan for a predicted flood of quite biblical proportions. Those who knew him humoured him right up until they realised he was right.
This was a good read. The pacing was just right and it stayed consistent throughout the book.
I liked the characters, especially Jolly and Leah. They had their own grief and issues which made them more relatable.
I felt like the plot was rushed a little towards the end. I know that Jolly was unconscious but there were other POVs throughout the book so it would've been easy to show how he was found, how his family got him back to the boat and how they got to the refugee camp. Instead it was all skipped over and jumped to everyone being settled in the camp and having jobs.
Jolly and his wife and daughter start out on a trip which ends tradjectly. He ends up deathly afraid to drive, especially on winding mountainous roads. So he travels by train to work. Then by chance, Jolly looks over a strangers shoulder while traveling to work, and spots a headline about the end of the world. The stranger tells him of a site that tells of these devistating theories. This sets of a whole change of events that ends with mile high tidal waves, wiping out most of the civilized world.
The story was 'fun'...as fun as an apocalyptic story can be. Ar first I thought it was a light hearted story..jokey..even after a terrible tragedy. I began to like the characters, and the story was comic book fun. The author does need to learn her grammar though. She should be obligated to use correct grammar, knowing subject pronouns (he/she) vs objects of prepositions (him/her). "Her and I went to the store", is cringeworthy. For a final note on the review: Just let yourself go with the story...it is not realistic nor is it supposed to be. I'll be reading more of her books.
I liked everything about this book. Ms. Druga always creates interesting characters, great stories with lots of suspense! She writes mostly apocalyptic fiction, so I do not know how she comes up with so many different scenarios. She has written at least 200 books and I have read all of them. Each one is just as good as the last one! I highly recommend all of Jacqueline Drug's books!
The plot line is very interesting and the actual apocalyptic events are entertaining. But this is slightly marred by the lack of character development. It also doesn’t address the question of why these characters. How do they become the protagonists of this story. I couldn’t understand why the side characters were so willing to go along and assist the man characters prepping. A good plot outline could help with that. Still, I enjoyed the story.
Good book, easy and fast read! Exciting, kept me engaged throughout. This author needs an editor though, deserves an editor. Jolly loses someone close to him and turns to a prepper website in order to stop dwelling on said loss. He learns that the apocalypse is on the way, he preps, but of course nothing goes as planned. This stand alone novel is worth reading, I devoured it in a matter of hours!
The fact that this book has over a 4 star rating is really surprising. The most annoying part of this book are the numerous instances that clearly show that the book was never proofread. The most disappointing part of this book is the the fact that despite this “continent-destroying” wave, most of the main characters were able to survive being hit head on, with just the temporary inconvenience of being underwater for a minute. It’s just silly and nonsensical.

Really enjoyable read. Jolly loses his wife in a freak accident. As he tries to pick up the pieces of his life his therapists advises him to take up a hobby . He accidentally finds out about a natural disaster that threatens to end the world freak storms and a massive wave . He starts to prepare, will be be able to survive and has he done enough . Great Read .
i really enjoyed your book. the first 3 chapters had me crying so hard it was hard to read through my tears. i felt so sorry for Jolly, you really made me feel his pain, i wanted to comfort him and Marni. this book held my attention from start to finish and i didn’t stop reading til the end. i was really hoping for a series.
I wanted to read this tongue in cheek but the descriptions of injury and death were too graphic to make this an amusing read. The concept is biblical but the preparations are less than needed and the OCD is dropped toward the end. Mystical intuition was interesting. There was no continuity to the style of writing. Liked it ok but with reservations.
The main character is Jolly. No one mentions where he is on the autism scale, but he is on there somewhere. This story borders on a comedy. It wasn't meant to be, but it does.
This is the first time I read this author, unfortunately for her, it will be my last book by her. She has a writing style not to my liking.
I enjoyed the story line. The book had typos but other than that the book was good. It wasn’t too short or too long and honestly I am sick on all those series books. This one was just what I was looking for. A Ending without reading 5 plus series to hopefully get to the end.
It has been a while since I read a book within 24 hours of buying it, but I absolutely could not put this one down! Excitement, tragedy, and edge of your seat suspense! I read a lot of dystopia. It is usually pretty obvious what is coming next. Not this book. I highly recommend it!
I enjoyed reading this book. It kept me engrossed with each and every page I read. It was realistic and the characters were creative. It’s an end of the world scenario but very realistic and not sugar coated. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to read a thrilling page turner. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Give it a read!
decent plot. It did have a ton of typos, which made it difficult to stay engaged, but other than that, not too bad. -apocalyptic story line -no romance -feel good HEA -some suspense Overall I enjoyed it & would recommend to anyone looking for a quick easy apocalypse story
As ever, Jacqueline Druga provides an original apocalypse scenario with quirky, warm and likeable characters, which is unusual for a genre where warmth and humour are usually conspicuously lacking… I particularly liked the upbeat ending!
Great book, once I started I couldn't stop. Well written, fast paced storyline that had me on the edge of my seat. Great characters that are easy to relate to, only complaint is I want more!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a page turn from the start, there is never a dull moment. I certainly hope there is another book to let us know where our refugees end up!
Enjoyed the story and the characters. Also, liked the fact that there wasn't any testosterone filled language or behavior. And, no political agenda that a lot of these types of books have. Could use a good proof reader. Good job, though.
I enjoyed this book. Ms. Druga tells interesting and inventive stories. The characters feel real and their lives are heartbreaking and intense. I hope there is a second book that lets us know what happens to Jolly and the rest of the characters in this story.
This is a great read. A few errors but you know what it should be and they won't slow you down. The world building is really good and the story really draws you in.
