Okay, I thought I felt seen by Isadora Bentley, but then comes Mackenzie Graham.
This was such a cute holiday book, y’all! The story centers around Mackenzie and her coworker (and secret love interest) Jeremy Fletcher as they compete in Christmas shenanigans for a promotion at work.
I’m a sucker for a good slow burn romance and this totally satisfied. I also loved the character growth seen in both MCs, but especially Mackenzie. And Jeremy was a stellar guy! 😍
So grateful to Sarah for the social anxiety representation! I really enjoyed getting to know Mackenzie and seeing her evolve.
This is a perfect read for the holiday season! Highly recommend!

I really liked Sarah Monzon’s writing. It flowed and it made the characters feel intelligent.
We follow a woman named Mackenzie who works at a design firm. She has severe social anxiety and it affects how she can communicate with others. We see it affect her a lot and it’s really sad to read. There is an on page panic attack so beware.
Then she is up for the same promotion as a guy she has a crush on. Jeremy. He is a sweet guy. An uncle raising his niece and nephew. He took a bit to win me over.
Since Mackenzie struggled with anxiety so badly, it was hard to see that they were building a romantic connection when they barely spoke.
I think the message was solid. Would recommend as a clean Christian Christmas option!

All's Fair in Love and Christmas by Sarah Monzon - 3 Stars
I greatly enjoyed Sarah Monzon's novel "Kiss Me On Christmas" last year, particularly because it resonated with me as a mother of a child with autism. Consequently, I was eagerly anticipating delving into her latest book, which features representation of social anxiety and promises a delightful Christmas romance. While I found the overall story to be enjoyable, I must admit that it didn't quite capture my heart as much as I had hoped.
In this story, we follow Jeremy and Mackenzie, co-workers in the field of graphic design, both competing for a new promotion at work. Mackenzie grapples with severe social anxiety, and we witness her journey navigating this challenge in various work and social situations, all while dealing with the additional stress of her mother's Alzheimer's. Jeremy, on the other hand, is an uncle raising his niece and nephew, doing his best to provide for them. Both characters have compelling reasons for needing the promotion, leading them to enter into a competitive dynamic. While the story possesses elements of romantic comedy with some humorous moments, I found myself somewhat underwhelmed by the limited interactions between the female main character (FMC) and male main character (MMC). I hoped for a more pronounced development of their romantic connection. Rather than a typical romance, the book leans more towards a Christmas-themed narrative centered around a girl emerging from her shell and learning to cope with and manage her anxiety. I can relate to some of what she went through as I find myself dealing with social anxiety at times, specifically in the work place. In general, the writing was commendable, and I believe it would appeal to a wide audience. However, it didn't quite resonate as a personal favorite for me. I did love the faith content of prayers and discussion of God throughout the story.

Such a unique heroine that I really connected to, a girl with social anxiety that needs to step up if she wants to earn that promotion at work by bringing Christmas cheer to the office.
I loved the office set romance, and having a character with such high anxiety in her life really put in a new perspective of how people with social anxiety can be treated and misunderstood when they go through social settings. Having social anxiety myself in some situations, I felt a real connection with the character. Seeing how she finds ways to help with that, and praying to the Lord and also having amazing friends along the way.
My favorite part was the way our heroine brought the Christmas joy to the office, her unique ideas really brought the love of the Lord and showed true kindness.

So sweet, so funny, so festive! I loved the opposites-attract theme with Jeremy and Mackenzie both trying their best to get an edge over the other in the unofficial competition for a promotion. I appreciated that it wasn't merely for personal ambition, but each of them provide support for family members and are thinking of them as they pursue the advancement. Jeremy is a friendly and charming guy, but some of his missteps prevent him from getting past Mackenzie's protective shield. The social anxiety she experiences also makes it difficult for others to get to know her better, but getting out of her comfort zone and making Christmas special for her coworkers helps her in ways she did not expect. I loved that she had a close friend who is always ready for shenanigans and keeps her grounded when worries are overwhelming. When Jeremy and Mackenzie slowly open up and see the deeper layers in each other, their attraction and chemistry develops naturally to something more, and their work relationship shifts as well. There is a lovely balance of humor, romance, angst, and emotion in this holiday heart-warming story that is perfect to read any time of the year!

All’s Fair in Love and Christmas was a sweet and charming holiday read. Mackenzie and Jeremy were great together and I loved watching them ‘one up’ each other with the holiday spirit. The ending left me with a big smile on my face. I truly enjoyed this one!

- This was a sweet read and would be perfect for people that are looking to have a hallmark vibes story without spice. I also loved how the characters briefly touched on their faith. It was a nice touch during the holiday season!
- The story felt very predictable at times, but I think that’s fairly typical with books that give a hallmark story so I didn’t mind. I do think the love story was a tad rushed, but I am thankful it wasn’t insta love.
- Really loved how there was an anxiety rep in this story. It was great to see her progression with learning to accept that she needs help and to watch her journey through that.

This sweet novel reminded me of You’ve Got Mail mixed with other fun romcoms. There’s aspects of a crazy Christmas competition combined with heart and a need for both the hero and heroine to get the promotion that will go to the winner. And both are great characters. It’s a truly enjoyable read filled to the brim with the best of Christmas and pure fun.

This quickly became one of my favorite Christmas books this season, and will probably rank up as a favorite of the year!
It’s holds a little more depth than your typical Christmas rom-com with fun and layered characters, authentic and genuine faith displayed, and a tender portrayal of the pain of Alzheimer’s.
The main character is relatable with a strong & unique voice. And being a dual POV book, you’ll also get a peek into the male lead’s side of things.
There were so many little moments that made me smile and lines that made me audibly giggle. It was just what I want in a fiction read - a good wholesome story that I can loose myself in for awhile and truly enjoy reading. I didn’t want it to end!

Super cute and adorbs! I loved all the Christmas feels this book gave! It gave me such nostalgia from making the gingerbread houses in the office to making hot cocoa to performing the Nutcracker. I loved it all!!
And the learning and participating in Christmas celebrations from around the world was so interesting to learn about! I still can’t get over the fact that 3M people in Japan celebrate Christmas by eating KFC, I’d have never known that! Imagine the travels of A Lady’s Guide to Marvels and Misadventure mixed with Christmas traditions and workplace humor in a book.
I didn’t love the characters too much which caused me to dock off a start. But I still really enjoyed seeing the FMC deal with her anxiety and see her go to therapy and remove the stigma of mental health. Especially her conclusion that therapy could be the answer to her praying to God to free her of anxiety.
Super cute and will definitely be a yearly re-read. I’ve never read a book such authentically Christmas. Can’t wait to keep on the holiday cheer 🎄!!

This was on me. All I saw was the cover and went for it but didn't know this was a christian book.
I swear, nothing happened for over half of the book. Just the female main character swooning over her crush but not being able to even say a sentence around him. Not only that, but how is this a romance when the two main characters don't even talk to each other(!!!!). I'm sorry but just no.
And someone getting a promotion based off of who has the most christmas spirit instead of who is able to do the job correctly? That's just a dumbass plot point.

All's Fair in Love and Christmas is a delightful read that will leave you feeling warm and cozy. The characters are so likable and sweet. I totally understand and feel for the heroine and her introverted ways. The hero is so precious to her. I love him! The storyline makes for a feel-good inspirational read. I highly recommend not only at Christmas time but at any time of the year!

Faith based romance complete with Bible verses. Not for me

I am obsessed with Christmas themed books. I like the aesthetic, the ambiance, the brightness, and lightness of it. Likewise, I selected a couple of Christmasy books from Netgalley to read for November/December. This was the first to be read.
First things first: I enjoyed some details, but the things I did not like… Well, let's just say I was not able to enjoy the book fully because of them.
The plot is basically a rivals-to lovers story. She has been in love with her coworker for years, despite having almost never spoken to each other, and he did not even notice her that way. Until of course their boss puts them against each other for a promotion. So instead of doing their job and proving their value as workers, they decide to do Christmas things/traditions because the boss is known for giving promotions to people with the most Christmas spirit. Despite how stupid and cringy it might look, this is what I enjoyed the most about this book. In fact, I fell like this over the top unreal situations are what make fun this sort of typical Christmas movies or books.
The problem however were mainly the characters. The MC is socially anxious, which trust me I get, but it gets to a very stupid point where she gets to a psychologist (good thing). Suddenly she is able to use the tools they give her to talk to anyone, to not let her brain fool her and to solve all those problems. Yeah, sure. On the other hand, the love interest is supposed to be this very clever and organized person but the moment he notices her he “loses control”? Like, seriously? Those changes I understand, but them being so sudden… Plus, those things change because someone mentions God.
That is my biggest concern with this: the amount of times God, religion and prayer are mentioned. I understand it is important for US culture, but it felt like a Christian book more than a romance novel. And it always happened when the characters realized something important. It all just feels like a preaching for Christianity.
All in all, I enjoyed the Christmas spirit of the book and the overall plot, but the characters were annoying and the constant mention of Christian religion took me out of the book. This was definitely not for me.

Estoy obsesionada con los libros de temática navideña. Me gusta su estética, su ambientación, su brillo y su ligereza. Por eso, seleccioné un par de libros navideños de Netgalley para leer en noviembre/diciembre. Este fue el primero que leí.
Lo primero es lo primero: me gustaron algunos detalles, pero las cosas que no me gustaron... Bueno, digamos que no pude disfrutar plenamente del libro por culpa de ellas.
La trama es básicamente una historia de rivales de oficina a amantes. Ella lleva años enamorada de su compañero de trabajo, a pesar de no haber hablado casi nunca, y él ni siquiera se fijaba en ella de esa manera. Hasta que, por supuesto, su jefa los enfrenta para conseguir un ascenso. Así que en vez de hacer su trabajo y demostrar su valía como trabajadores, deciden hacer cosas/tradiciones navideñas porque la jefa tiene fama de dar ascensos a la gente con más espíritu navideño. A pesar de lo estúpido que pueda parecer, esto es lo que más me ha gustado de este libro. De hecho, me parece que estas situaciones irreales exageradas son las que hacen divertidas este tipo de películas o libros típicamente navideños.
Sin embargo, el problema fueron principalmente los personajes. La protagonista tiene ansiedad social, cosa que entiendo. Pero llega a un punto en el que va al psicólogo (cosa buena) y de repente es capaz de usar las herramientas que le dan para hablar con cualquiera, no dejarse engañar por su cerebro y solucionar todos esos problemas. Sí, claro. Por otro lado, se supone que el interés amoroso es una persona muy inteligente y organizada pero en el momento en que se fija en ella "pierde el control". ¿En serio? Esos cambios los entiendo, pero que sean tan repentinos... Además, esas cosas cambian porque alguien menciona a Dios.
Eso es lo que menos me ha gustado del libro: la cantidad de veces que se menciona a Dios, la religión y la oración. Entiendo que es importante para la cultura estadounidense, pero me pareció más un libro cristiano que una novela romántica. Y siempre ocurría cuando los personajes se daban cuenta de algo importante. Todo parece una predicación del cristianismo.
Con todo, me gustó el espíritu navideño del libro y la trama en general, pero los personajes eran molestos y la constante mención de la religión cristiana me sacó del libro. Definitivamente, no era para mí.

I’d say this is a 3.5!
I was immediately drawn into the story. I laughed. I sympathized with Mackenzie being someone who struggles socially with others. I loved the faith sprinkled throughout the story!
I felt like for a book with Christmas on the cover, it was lacking Christmas in the story. At times I forgot this was a holiday book.
Another thing I struggled with was I knew Mackenzie liked Jeremy but Jeremy liking her was very unclear and just not believable. It felt disjoined like maybe the author was like oh wait I gotta make him like her too.
The end of the book— maybe the last 15-20%— was fine. Felt like it was too much and not enough at the same time. I don’t know lol…just felt a little muddled.
Overall I still really enjoyed this book and I wanna read more from Monzon!

Well, deck the halls and pour the cocoa! This Christmas story was too cute for words!

Monzon crafted a story with all the cosy makings of a heartwarming Hallmark movie but infused it with such depth! The way she tackled Mackenzie’s anxiety was beautiful; it wasn’t about a lack of faith and “doing better.” Sometimes medicine and therapy are part of God’s way of healing.
Mackenzie and Jeremy are SO adorable. And I speak as an anxious introverted girly, Jeremy’s steadiness was one of the most attractive things about him. *swoon*

I received an advanced copy of this from Bethany House and it surpassed my expectations. It was funny and had such good chemistry between the two main characters. The story had heart with both main characters having some hard things in their life as well as the main character having social anxiety. 5 star quick little Christmas read. 🎄

I actually loved that this was a faith based Christmas read, it was closed door and biblical references. While I understand thats not for everyone, I think its what I enjoyed most about it. The FMC was strong and independent, which was nice to see. It lacked a bit of depth for me; hence the 3 stars but overall it was a decent read.

This cover is so darling! You definitely get the fun Christmas vibes from it, and that there’s romance involved.
What it doesn’t convey is the heart and depth that is in this story—the things that made this such a standout read for me.
Along with a lot of fun holiday spirit and humor, and a festive competition between Mackenzie and Jeremy for a workplace promotion, the storyline also includes dealing with social anxiety, a parent with early onset Alzheimer’s, and raising your sibling’s children.
One of the characters states, “I just think the stigma of mental health needs to end.” I couldn’t agree more, and I LOVE books that try to do that, while portraying mental illnesses in a sensitive and empathetic way. Sarah does this so beautifully, and with firsthand experience.
She also accurately conveys the heartache and weightiness of having a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Even with these heavy and tender topics, All’s Fair in Love and Christmas is an upbeat story that is funny, tender, and sweetly romantic. It’s heartwarming and full of so much hope, faith, and joy. I loved it!

I loved everything about this book! First off, the ending was one of my favorite endings ever. Mackenzie and the rest of the characters were awesome and the story is just completely charming, hilarious at times and emotional at times but still 100% what I would characterize as a light read. It definitely made me smile and giggle throughout! Great read!

All’s Fair in Love and Christmas by Sarah Monzon is a wonderful read, even in August. Mackenzie and Jeremy work together at InDesign. Their boss has told them they are both up for a promotion and she will decide before Christmas after judging their performance. She is known for choosing people who have the most Christmas spirit for promotions. Let the games begin!

To me this was so much more than a Hallmark Christmas story. I felt the characters were my friends by the end of the story as I was able to walk through life with them. I enjoyed the banter, humor, and how the story had depth and compassion. The author’s portrayal of social anxiety was so well done, and gives insight to the reader.
"Someone show me how to backstroke, please, before I drown in my thoughts, made-up scenarios, and uncharted, confused feelings. "
The Christmas competition was endearing and kept the story not too heavy. The themes of friendship, faithfulness and walking with someone through hard times resonated with me. This is the Christmas book you do not want to miss. I very highly recommend All’s Fair in Love and Christmas.

Perfect rivals-to-lovers story, no notes. 🤍
For the purpose of a review, I guess I'll say more. ;) This couple was so cute and respectful and chemistry-filled. I really enjoyed their interactions, and the wrapping paper scene had me swooning. I'm married to a man who is much more confident than I am but supports me so effortlessly, so the dynamic in this warmed my heart. The anxiety rep was amazing too.
Also, all the Christmas traditions from around the world? Very fun and detailed. ;)

Jeremy is outgoing and confident, but he is also responsible for raising his preteen niece and nephew. His orderly life doesn't leave room for fun, much less God's plan. I'm not crying. You're crying. Let me just say, before I even get into discussing the romance part of the book, the representation of social anxiety in All's Fair in Love and Christmas has me wanting to cry. I have been formally diagnosed with both generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder, and sometimes I just know people don't fully get why I react to certain social situations the way I do, so to see it in a story feels validating. And this is was real anxiety, not just "I worry sometimes." Likes yes, just being around people can trigger flight or fight (or even freeze) in a way that many don't get. The part about the little construction workers working in her brain to reprogram and redirect thoughts associated with social anxiety, I felt that so personally.
That part aside, as I know it won't resonate with everyone like it did with me, this is such a cute story. I adore Christmas so I loved how Christmas saturated this book was. Mackenzie's idea to incorporate everyone's Christmas traditions around the office was just adorable. And Jeremy, while he has kind of a big "wow you're an idiot moment," really shows remorse but also a genuine care for Mackenzie. I loved all the moments he tried to help ground her in her anxious moments. Also, my daughter is a dancer, including ballet, so I told her about the Nutcracker part where Jeremy didn't know plié from relevé and she promptly did both and said that's easy! It made me laugh and was another personal connection to the book. Highly recommend. Can't gush enough.

This was super cute and perfect for Christmas! With references to funny pop culture things (yay for Star Trek!) and an MC with debilitating anxiety, I loved the journey this book took me on.
At times it was hard to understand the FMC’s anxiety but I think that’s kind of the point - if you don’t suffer from it you may not get it, but the book helped me see a different side to it.
Also loved the lack of a 3rd act break up 😅
Highly recommend!
