From the authors of the Goddess Girls and Heroes in Training series comes the first book in the School for Magical Monsters series about Pegasus’s first day at school—part of the Aladdin QUIX line!
Pegasus is very excited for his first day at the School for Magical Monsters! At his old school, he was the only creature there, but now, he won’t be alone. In fact, everyone there will find their special power—and Pegasus can’t wait to discover his!
But the first few days are a little rough—poor Pegasus keeps on stumbling over his hooves! And it seems like all his new friends start to receive their power before he does. With a little help from his new friends and a little magic, can Pegasus learn to soar at his new school?
NY Times bestselling children's book author: GODDESS GIRLS series + HEROES IN TRAINING series (w Suzanne Williams); THIS LITTLE TRAILBLAZER a Girl Power Primer; ZERO THE HERO; I AM THE SHARK. Lucky to be doing what I love!
3.5 stars. My 7yo first grader loved this book! We borrowed it from the library and read it together. This is great for kids who are into magical creatures and beasts as well as Greek mythology. The book is cute as we learn how Pegasus came to get his wings, but I felt like there was unrealized potential in the early chapter book. We’ll be giving the next book in the series a try and maybe I’ll bump up the star rating as I develop more of a fondness for these characters.
I really enjoy children's book that center around accepting everyone and not allowing differences to set people apart. In this case, Pegasus has arrived to his new school find it has creatures and beasts. Without many positive thoughts about beasts, Pegasus makes a lot of assumptions. I enjoyed the ending, the glossary, the table of contents and the illustrations. QUIX Books are fast, chapter books for ages 5-8 that bridge the early reader gap and I thought this one did a great job.
An entertaining early reader sure to delight your little. A fun & engaging story with found family and mythical creatures from Greek mythology. Kind of like an elementary version of camp half blood, but for creatures and beasts instead of demigods.
A fun read. I like the simple introduction to the concept of Mythological creatures in Greek Mythology. I also like how this publishing line lets readers know the cast of characters and a vocabulary word list at the end
Despite the branding of “Quix- fun fast reads” this book was too long and slow on introducing the characters which lead to disinterest. (DNF - ch.5/63%)
Cute enough and functional for readers who are fans of Joan Holub's other mythology based books, or who aren't quite ready for the length of those books.
