Someone just asked how I learned to French braid and I thought of this, truly the most authoritative hair book one can find.

The only real "hair style" book I'd actually recommend for longer hair, this book shows an array of creative styles while making other classics easier than ever. It's divided into two sections, one for those already experienced with hair styles, and one for beginners. If you have issues with french-braiding, it's made more clear cut on doing it yourself here. I envy the ability to do the upside-down french braid...directions are clear but this is just something that will take a mountain of practice to eventually turn out right.
With a visually pleasing layout, excellent instructions and clear photos are provided for about thirty-two hairstyles, some simple and some complicated. There are styles to suit medium-lengths and then much longer. Covered are various forms of twists and braids, cornrows, herringbones, ropes, rolls, and buns. Theres also a section on using hair sticks. Whether you're sniffing around for a casual work-updo, a prom formal, or just everyday fun, this book is highly recommended.

Excellent, easy-to-follow book of instructions of lots of hairstyles for a variety of hair lengths!

It's where I learned how to do a French braid, and the only set of instructions that I have ever actually understood (sorry, Pinterest). My favourite style may be the Gibson Tuck, as it's especially good for curly hair (which I have) - I remember wearing it to school when I dressed up for Reading Week as The Lady of Shalott (lol)! The illustrations are clear and comprehensive, and there are sections on easier and harder styles so there's something for everyone! It comes with a set of scrunchies too so that's a bonus ;)

Great book for step by step directions to learn many different technical styles. I know many people use youtube videos. I have used videos but I like the book to look at as I am doing my own hair with still photographs. I think this is a great book!

I learned how to do lots of really awesome and unique updo styles while reading "Hair: A Book of Braiding and Styles". I work around food so I always have to have my hair up/out of my face and I was really struggling with finding cute updo styles that weren't your everyday bun or ponytail. This book really helped me get creative and experiment with new styles that I really enjoy. The directions are very easy to understand and include a clear visual to guide you while you style your hair.

I highly recommend anyone interested in experimenting with new hairstlyes to get a copy of this book! They have loads of updo styles for various occasions!

My sister and I have had this book since we were children and used it many times. Even with the internet as a resource on everything ever, I still turn to this book when I want to find a new and challenging hair style to try out on my long hair. The instructions are very clear with excellent visuals that are useful both for styling someone else's hair or for styling your own.

I had this book ever since I was in Jr. High....a long time ago. Anyway yes, this book have easy step-by-step on how to braid hair yourself. I haven't figured out all of the styles, only because I have curly hair and some styles just won't work. Over all this really is good! It is more then just braiding, it have that classic pony, Quiff, Victorian Twist, and etc.

This was the book that finally made me "get" complicated braids, and it's spoiled me for all other braiding books. They just confuse me because I always try instinctively to use techniques from this one. I lost my copy about ten years ago and really want another one...

My brain shuts down upon seeing the more complex braiding styles - it's something to do with spatial relations. This book has some of the clearest descriptions of how to braid that I've ever seen, along with some ideas you don't see every day.

This book finally helped me conquer the french braid! Now I can do it with ease either on myself or others. Highly recommend it if you are having trouble grasping the concept. It displays it in clear, easy to understand diagrams.

Hair is not my thing. A pony tail or plain braids is about all I can handle. This book gives directions I can actually understand for more complicated hair styles.

This is the book my dad learned to French braid my hair from when I was little. I picked it up at a book sale and am looking forward to trying a few of the simpler styles...

It had some cute ideas, some very outdated, and the instructions, for the most part, were helpful.
