When a mysterious guest dies at Shirley McClintock's Santa Fe guest house, the other guests are blissfully unconcerned. The crazy lady in Ditch House goes her crazy way; her drunken companion continues to drink; and the middle-aged pair continue to enjoy the gentle landscape. But Shirley senses something wicked just around the corner. Like cold-blooded murder. And a terrifying evil coming closer and closer to her peaceful abode . . .
This book wasn’t as straightforward as most of the McClintock novels. It’s the second one set in New Mexico, but the first one that has Shirley, JQ, Allison, et al actually living there. Despite a plethora of one-time characters and several subplots, it was an enjoyable book. I would have appreciated a more clear-cut ending, but I do still intend to read book 6.
When one of Shirley McClintock's guests at her southwestern inn dies a suspicious death and leaves no I.D., former rancher Shirley sets out to investigate. This is the first book in which Shirley and her family have moved to the inn and it makes for an interesting setting. This is a great cozy mystery series and this book has a great ending. It's over 20 years old but don't let that stop you from reading the "Shirley McClintock" series!
Now a guest dies at her house? What are the statistics of a person coming across so many deaths yet not work in law enforcement? Still, Shirley does the job and figures out the killer and why.
