Kraken Klaus

Rate this book
The mermaids are using the Christmas Cruise to get up to no good. Banished from the sea, the species believes that if they can't have the ocean for themselves, then no one can have it. Only the mighty kraken can save the day. But the ocean's only hope is drawn away by the sweet lullaby and wide blue eyes of one of the siren he's supposed to be stopping.
But maybe, not every mermaid was born bad. Right?

Kraken Klaus is part of the Tinsel and Tentacles multi-author collaboration and a complete standalone. Expect to find interesting use for tinsel, confused cruise captains who needs to retire, and a kraken overlord with a soft centre. Want more tantalizingly tentacular winter holiday romances? Charlotte Brice

Charlotte Brice started writing at the age of thirteen when her handwriting looked like a drunken spider tried to navigate its way across the page. Practicing her handwriting got a lot more interesting when her gran gave her two Rawhide books, and her imagination took over.
Charlotte is left-handed and can lick her own nose.
She lives in England with her husband, and many animals, four of them human. Attack chickens, confused dragons and moving rocks make up the majority of the menagerie. We can't expect much better from someone who studied fruit flies during her animal science degree and then qualified as a vet.
She remembers those days fondly, when putting her arm up a cow's bottom, and socks on emus' heads was her kind of normality. Now her head is filled with tentacles and schizophrenic phoenixes.

This was weird. I don’t really understand the plot and things got randomly thrown in like the ShiftARS which made it go from weird to freaking bizarre. It said this was a dark romance in the intro/trigger warnings section, but wasn’t really that dark. It also said mild scenes of sex, but there was quite a lot of BDSM and taboo type things like tentacle sounding.

There were some typos like arm was capitalized in the middle of sentence for no reason. Then there were some inconsistencies like Moshe always had blue scales as a mermaid, and then he said dark greeny yellow at one point. It was dual POV, but we were mostly in Moshe’s head. We didn’t see his family although they were mentioned multiple times. He didn’t really have friends either since he can’t remember anyone’s name except his own and Ryuu’s. I was mostly confused and flabbergasted while reading. Maybe 1.5-2 stars for this, although that’s maybe too generous.

a lot of good ideas that needs layered treatments

Rating: 3🌈

A crossover with Charlotte Brice’s ShiftARS series, Kraken Klaus has some interesting ideas and mythology woven into the romance storyline of a young mershifter in his first job aboard a ocean liner and the kraken, God of the Sea, he awakens.

The character of Moshe is very appealing. Young, impressionable, and good hearted, the author gives Moshe an equally interesting history and background to accompany his endearing personality.

Brice skimps on the information about his immediate family life, his mother and imposing, often absent , famous Captain of a father. Those details are needed to understand why Moshe is so underrated and ignorant of Mer history.

Also a good plot line but not fully explored was the toxic dumping. There was more structure that needed to be laid down for this story line. It’s a major part of the book but at the end, the reader is still left with a number of questions about why no one notices on board ship that this is going on at sea , what ever happens to Moshe’s father, the toxic investigation results, etc. That’s all discarded in favor of the romance.

The romance is the main plot, of course. Lots of tentacles and tentacles sex, with a bit of kink. FYI. The newly awakened Kraken is detailed in his looks and lack of current knowledge of the status quo between humans , shifters and such. That made total sense. But oddly not as powerful as one might expect for a God of the Sea. Seemed more Kraken Lite.

Ryuu does a narrative service here by revealing much of the backstory behind the Mermaid/Mer shifters and why they have been so land removed, rarely being able to shift into their original forms. It’s a mixture of myths, sort of paying the price for wanting legs.

The siren aspect is unclear as it’s brought in very late in the story.
However, how Brice describes and handles it, makes me want so much more. And have it brought in earlier on so it felt more like an overall part of the story than an add on. It was one of my favorite things about the story and Moshe’s character. Over way too soon.

Spoilers. The ending, nicely dramatic, had too many loose ends and odd moments. Moshe just forgot about his family and ran off to live in an underwater palace with Ryuu the Kraken, complete with a kitchen and tea kettle of sorts. And lots of edible moss . Forever.

All in all, Kraken Klaus: A winter Holiday MM Tentacle Romance by Charlotte Brice has some interesting elements and some really sexy moments. A grab bag of fun and tentacles under the sea. But it didn’t quite gel for me. It might for you.

You read the description and decide for yourself.

Kraken Klaus is a whimsical mash up of light hearted, Christmas themed romp and action filled environmental fight. It is in the ShiftARS universe.

Ryuu King of the Sea is an ancient kraken suddenly called to the surface. Moshe is a merman working aboard a Christmas Cruise ship who has learned an awful truth. When they meet there is heat, heat, heat.

This book was a fun, silly glimpse into the depths of the ocean. Where creatures are fierce but still need others to be happy.

Moshe, a mermaid, finds out that the cruise line he's working for is dumping drums of noxious chemicals into the ocean. He objects and his fate is to be put in a drum and dumped as well. What could save him is that his father is a legendary captain for the line. Tied up, and left in the bathroom of this cruise's captain, he's rescued by a kraken, Ryuu, King of the Sea. When Ryuu finds that Moshe is not only a mermaid but a siren, he decides to kidnap the mer and make him his.
I lost count but I think Moshe was trussed up, kinkily at least four times. The sex, a solo session and quite a few scenes with his kraken, is sizzling. Kindle melting. This definitely wasn't a lite read or a "ho, ho, ho" Christmas story. Definitely for adult audiences.
Ryuu ends up dressed in a Santa suit. And Moshe ends up in an elf's costume. There are Christmas trees and Christmas dinner. And lots of chocolate. But I'm not sure I'd call this a Christmas book. It's kinky and the sex is.... let's call it adult. It's NSFW (not safe for work). Not ho hum.
A quick read that had me fanning myself. This is the first I've read from this author. And I'm undecided if I will read more.
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

This book is all of the silly, steamy and sweetness wrapped up in one entertaining read. While there are aspects I wasn't keen on and both MCs were not easy to like, being rather self obsessed.

Still it's a fun concept with fascinating world building/history of the mermaids, I liked the connection with the kraken. Although the whole catalyst for their "betrayal" was kind of ridiculous and he is the one that banished them, can't complain that they learned to adapt and enjoy their human side.

I adored the side cast too, the nicknames and forgetting of names. The variety of shifters and trying to stop the damage to the ocean, some great action scenes too.

Oh and the steamy moments are heated as heck, there are a mixture of them throughout and all of the chemistry for these two. Their initial meeting, the song and instant connection.

Anyway it's a rather ridiculous tale in so many ways and yet I was enchanted somehow, I liked the setting of the ship and the Christmas feels. The costumes, trees & chocolate - socks are essential gifts for sure. It was very sweet and cosy in the end, Moshe & Ryuu finally together beneath the sea. ✨

Kraken Klaus - Presents from Christmas Daddy

‘Once my boy has calmed himself and settled his breathing, I allow him to surface. "I am so proud of you. Trusting me enough to shift based on nothing but my belief in you." "I needed that, Daddy, I needed all of that. Thank you for showing me what I can do." My boy's voice softens to a whisper. "Thank you for believing in me."

As part of the multi-author Tinsel and Tentacles series, Charlotte Brice introduces us to a world where mer-people coexist with hu-people on a cruise line, and there are secrets that could affect everyone who lives in or uses the ocean. In Kraken Klaus, Moshe is a merman who is just trying to live the relaxed and taken care of life that he saw his mother have. The problem? His father has higher expectations for him and so does the captain of the ship.

When Moshe finds himself in danger, he hums a morose tune that he has always had in his mind. This time, there is a huge and unexpected force of nature who will change the lives of everyone on the ship, but especially the adorable Moshe.

A fun, quick, and very steamy MM tentacle read to warm your holiday heart🎄

This is a standalone Christmas shifter MM romance.

Moshe is a merman shifter who needs to avoid water in order to hide his shifter side from others but ironically is working on a cruise ship. All he wants is to find a guy who enjoys the same pleasures he does but isn't holding out much hope. Ironically he's working on a cruise ship. He has such a high sex drive that he's hoping for his own harem, lol.

I liked how the ShiftARS make an appearance in this story, showing themselves when Moshe needs help once he finds out that waste is being dumped into the sea.

Ryuu is a kracken and turns up on the ship, finding an instant attraction to Moshe. They have some really steamy moments and there are some creative uses of tentacles.

The story has lots of humour, really likable characters, and lots of steam - a lighthearted Christmas themed read.

Holiday romance cruise...OK...I was down for it but then...OMG...I wasn't ready...this was so over the top...a couple of times I had to stop and say what tha wha?? These characters mannnnn...this author had me hooked with the madness...straight entertainment. Again these characters...especially Moshe...Moshe at the beginning had me fooled...sweet little mer trying to find his way in the world...his purpose in life... then BAM! out come his secret toy stash...LOL...I was so outdone...then the wackiest story began/unraveled...horn dog mer, toxic chemicals, evil mers, shifter army and a kraken that rose from the deep after hearing his siren song. I love me some tentacles and this story has a plenty with a little romance thrown in and victory over the bad guys. What a ride**smiles** This was zany but entertaining!

A delightful story about a mer with an exceptionally high sex drive, a cutely obsessive kraken, and what’s really going on in our oceans. Ryuu’s single-minded obsession with Moshe is sweet, and I love the continuous stream of creative endearments he has for Moshe. An entertaining story, with fun characters in Ryuu and Moshe, whose thought patterns I found quite hilarious, lots of action, and an interesting approach to the whole mer concept. I did not want to put this book down & I'm probably going to go back and read it again.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book for free and this is an honest and voluntary opinion.

Well, umm... the first half of this book was funny and cute I loved how different it was and the MCs made me laugh but then I don't know what happened or maybe I do and I'm just tired of mentioning it but here goes. My issue with the second half was all the sex. I don't mean tentacle sex, even though it's just down right strange but I knew going in what to expect, my issue is how much sex there was and seems to be in most of the books in this series. All I can say is why? What is wrong with writing more story than sex? The sex doesn't take you anywhere, it's just there for what exactly? Pages and pages of sex doesn't make it a good story it just makes it erotica rather than romance. *shakes head* Okay, so this is just my opinion but I can only hope there are a lot more readers out there like me who want more romance.

Sorry, this became a little rant about the amount of sex in the books I've been reading lately. I don't have anything against sex in stories I just want to know more about the MCs and I want to go on an romantic adventure with them not be stuck in their bedroom (or where ever they end up) watching. So write sex in the stories just don't forget about the rest.

If you don't mind a lot of sex this isn't at all a bad story. It's cute and funny and something a bit different, that part I really liked, hence the 3 stars, but the sex, I skimmed all of it which I'm sure isn't something an author wants to hear.

● Paranormal/Fantasy
● Holiday/Christmas
● A bit of a mystery (sort of)
● A Kraken and a sweet merman
● Some sweet moments
● Some funny moments
● Loved the MCs
● Too much sex it drew me out of the story
● *sigh* (and not a good sigh) I ended up skimming a lot of the last half of this one
● Sorry for the rant
● Was there a satisfying HEA? Unfortunately, not for me
● Multi author series
● Can be read as a stand-alone

A sweet and steamy novella. Mer-man - Moshe is working on a cruise ship at Christmas when his path crosses with Kraken - Ryuu and the sparks fly between them. They had an endearing and hot dynamic but also cute as well as protective too. More so when things get problematic for Moshe on the ship and the ShiftARs (characters from another series) pop up in this book which I liked. I really enjoyed reading this book and I liked both of the main characters too.

Moshe is a merman who just wants to be pampered and protected. He stumbles on bad mermen who are trying to pollute the ocean and is saved by the Kraken shifter, Ryuu, King of the ocean. It's a sweet Christmas story with bits of shifting, humor and sexy times. I'll never think of mermen the same way again. Let's just say Moshe is obsessed with carnal ways. It's a most enjoyable cruise on the ocean. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.

Wow, what a whirlwind romance & under-over-sea-adventure! Ryuu & Moshe, all their allies & enemies, friends & foes - what a wild ride. Some parts (like the socked tentacles) made me laugh, some parts made me snarl, & some parts made me swoon. Not a bad way to spend some time. Lost under the sea with sharks, dolphins, cod, kraken, merfolk, sirens, and candy moss. Loved the glow in the dark fish, that was cool too.

DNF at about 75%.
This was so incredibly bad I couldn't bring myself to slog through the remaining 25%. It's just straight porn with zero plot and characters from the author's other books, so if you haven't read those you'll be lost.
The characters are dumb and talk like a chatbot made the dialogue, and the spice isn't even well written for being nearly 100% of the content.
Will not touch this author again with a 10 foot pole.

This book, wow. It will grab you and keep you reading until the end. You will find yourself unable to put it down. It moves along at a pace that is perfect for the flow of the story. It has characters that no matter what happens you will fall in love with and a story that will grab you. This is a book that has to be on your TBR list, you will not be sorry. Its a must read.

Moshe may be a sweet merman, but he also has a spicy appetite! Seems his rescuer from the sea comes with tentacles! Ryuu has found just what he always wanted in Moshe. These two are sorts of hot and steamy, but it was the lighthearted humor of it all that I really enjoyed. This is a unique and quirky novella and I know I will be reading it again because I could not put it down the first time.

lighthearted story with tentacles

A siren and a kraken walk into a cruise ship……well that is essentially what this book is about. Add in some toxic chemicals, shiftARS, some bad guys and mer people who have gotten too far away from the sea and you get another great addition to this series from Charlotte Brice.

I enjoyed it.

Moshe is a slightly weird mermaid that likes to hum and does not go into water. He wakes a Kraken named Ryuu. Ryuu teaches Moshe that he has 3 forms, human like, mermaid and siren. Moshe get the mate of his dreams.

Kraken Klaus is part of the multi author Tinsel and Tentacles series. Each book is a standalone but if you like tentacles why not read them all. Charlotte Brice does it again by bringing another fun story with great characters. I wasn't able to put this book down once I started it. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

This was interesting. It had a lot of lore in the story so there was a lot to learn at the same time. I liked the story but it was a lot for a shorter story and I was left wondering about what would happen after the story.
