The Burning Witch #2

The Burning Witch

Rate this book
A fiery young witch contends with magical adversaries, courtly fights, and unexpected attractions in this romantasy set in the world of the House Witch.

Lady Katarina Ashowan has never quite fit the mold of a noblewoman—and it’s not only because she’s a mutated fire witch. Though she’s the closest friend and confidant of Alina, the soon-to-be-coronated queen of Troivack, Kat would much rather play cards with questionable characters or steal out at night to go riding than bandy niceties with suitors and deal with affairs of state. So as soon as Alina is officially crowned, the young witch plans to put away her dresses and get into some real adventure, training with a master swordsman.

But her journey to knightly prowess is proving more complicated than she thought it would be. For one thing, her future teacher isn’t exactly thrilled at the prospect of their arrangement. Worse, unknown adversaries seem determined to stop Alina from actually assuming the throne. Kat’s magical abilities, meanwhile, keep growing and changing in unpredictable and potentially dangerous ways. And despite her best efforts, she still can’t manage to suppress her attraction to Alina’s brother, Eric, the crown prince of Daxaria . . .

Filled with heart-pounding duels and enchanted encounters, witty wordplay and swoon-worthy flirtations, The Burning Witch 2 is the humorous, page-turning continuation of a charming series set in the unforgettable universe of the House Witch.

The second volume of a new spin-off of the hit romantic-fantasy series that has more than a million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

I savoured this book.

I know that might sound weird to say, but I love the House witch books from Delemhach and their new Burning Witch series following the next generation is, in my opinion, even better than the original trilogy.

Each book just gets better and better, and The Burning Witch 2 was no different.

We’re plunged right into the story, picking up where we left off in The Burning Witch 1. Kat wakes up the morning after rescuing Eric, and gets ready to face him. They have an adorable and hilarious exchange where he cooks her her favourite pancakes as a thanks.

In this book, we really see Kat come into her own. She begins training with Faucher to become a knight and finally feels like she’s doing what she was meant to all along. Her journey in the book to finding herself is amazing to read.

Her chemistry with Eric goes from 🔥 to 🔥🔥🔥🔥! Both realise how much they love each other, and are so open and real with why this is going to be difficult moving forward. Eric has done some amazing healing, but he still has ways to go and he’s very open about that.

Honestly, if you love romantasy, fantasy books with strong female characters and lots of banter, these books are for you.

If The House Witch trilogy was a warm cup of tea, The Burning Witch is a shot of moonshine. So far this story has been full of chaos and adventure but also a certain warmth that I really, really enjoy!

Everyone was way more likable in this one then the first, I think I am finally warming up to Kat. I appreciate her distance from the queen, that helps things. It also helped moved along that ending, which WhooHoo! Makes me more excited to read the third more than I was for the second.

Y’all…found family is my favorite trope and this book had me eating from the palm of its hand 😭 Faucher and family taking in Kat and training her MADE this book and her being the unofficial fourth son of the family gave me so much fulfillment lol. Faucher subbing in for Fin at the end was PERFECTION. And of course, Princess Pina working her cuteness to win over anyone and everyone to her mistresses side was oh so fun! Not to mention Kat and Eric’s relationship progressing in the best way! TENSION!!!

Since I have to wait until MAY (*insert sobbing*) for the final installment, here are some things I can’t wait for!

🔥 Duke Fin is IN THE HOUSE!!! How badly is he gonna whoop everybody’s ass?
🔥 Will we have a royal baby in this book??? 👀
🔥 WTF is the Devil up to and who is this lady he’s worried about?
🔥 Emperor Kraken’s reign in Troivack 😭✊🏼
🔥 Emperor Kraken meeting Princess Pina 🐈‍⬛🐈
🔥 Shady Ashowan house matters???
🔥 More Kat x Eric OFC (married edition)
🔥 The final showdown? More answers about Kat’s powers???

The female led ones of these books are reading a lot less misogynist. I obviously have become attached. We’re fighting Satan, now? Sounds great, whatever, don’t quite understand the marriage plot, just give it to me with a bowl and a spoon.

Before I start, some clarification. The page number on my progress report was well over 500 pages, whereas my paperback copy of Burning Witch 2 had only 386, so an obvious discrepancy between hardcover and paperback.
Another very fun read. This book dealt with the young witch Katerina in Troivack to supposedly assist her best friend Alina in her marriage to Brendan, King of Troivack. Katarina is an unusual witch, in terms of this magical world. She is extremely powerful but not yet fully aware of all her powers. The political situation in Troivack, a male dominated country, is fraught with danger. The threat of rebellion looms ever present, and the marriage of Brendan to Alina, who hails from Daxaria, a country where women have an equal say in governance, certainly adds fuel to the fires. Throw in Katarina, the outspoken hellion daughter of the famous House Witch, Finlay Ashowan, now a Duke,, and the fireworks are sure to go off.
This book's main plot centers on the blossoming affair between Kat and Eric, son of the King of Daxaria and heir to thew throne. Eric had at one time been a fond friend of Kat's father, now estranged because of things in the past. Adding to the intrigue is Kat's arduous training as a knight, which was suggested by both sets of parents, but is an affront to the male first society of Troivack. So many issues. But the story is woven together tightly and I had trouble putting this book down. I highly recommend this to all Harry Potter, Game of Thrones fans. Now, to wait until book 3 is put into paperback.

Man oh man, I am in love with this series!

I actually started backwards. I read the first Burning Witch book first, then realized that there was a tremendous amount of back story that I was missing, so I went and found The House Witch series. Then I read all 4 of those books. It actually took me a couple of minutes coming back to this book to remember where we were in the story because I had been so far back in their history with the prior series, but once my mind cleared up, I was ready to go.

This book has us back with Kat and Alina in Troivack. Alina is about to be crowned and Kat is still causing raised eyebrows. The thing between Prince Eric and Lady Kat is apparent to EVERYONE - well, except to the two of them.

Lady Kat finally gets the opportunity to go train in swordsmanship and she ends up at the family estate of Leader Faucher and that opens the door to all kinds of new characters that I ended up falling in love with. Faucher himself is the best type of character, a gruff and stern soldier who is frustrated with having to deal with Kat. Worried about how it might impact his family and who ends up falling head over heels for the impetuous redhead and who then ends up being an amazing father like figure to her. Not to mention all of his adult children..... truly all wonderful characters.

Then there is Kat. She is truly one of the best all time FMC's. She is strong, but still vulnerable. She is a mess but she realizes it and most of the time she ENJOYS creating chaos. She is compassionate but does not suffer fools lightly. If she can ever get a handle on her magic, she is going to be one heck of a threat - not that she isn't already....

There is so much going on in this series. Many, many bad guys who want to see Queen Alina killed and want to stop any changes that King Brendan is making. Then there are the magical threats - who exactly is the good guy here? And then Da is coming. The House Witch is on his way.

What is he is going to find when he arrives.....?????

I
CAN'T
WAIT!!!!!!!

The characters that grated on me a bit in the first book have really grown on me in this one, and it’s so interesting to see how other people’s stories are developing now too from the prior books. I cannot wait to see where this goes! This romance is the messiest and funnest one yet, and I’m here for it!

UGH THIS WAS SO GOOD! I'm here for Eric & Kat's relationship, Faucher's character arc, Alina's growth and the community that rallies around Kat at her time of need... I'm really looking forward to the final installment of this trilogy and bracing for myself for the plot twist (and whether Tam has a role to play in this..?).

Loved This

When I first read the book “House Witch”, I never imagined I would fall head over heels in Love with the story line. Now with the Second book of the Second series, I am even more captivated. Exciting, imaginative, down right funny from fist page through to the last, leaving me feeling breathless in anticipation of the next book. This is the best story line this decade. 10 out of 10 Stars

I was quite impressed with this author. Other than the prior book in this series I have not read any of their works before. The character development is excellent, the world building allows me to relate to what is happening, and the love story development is very natural. There is also great editing. This 2nd book in the series kept me thoroughly engaged and completes one of the storylines by the end. tThough it doesn’t end on a big cliffhanger, there is a little one, to make you want to read what happens next. It worked and I’m off to download the next book!

I LOVED THIS BOOK

Okay, book 2 outdid book 1, in my opinion. Eric struggles with his newfound discovery— that he’s in love with Kat.
Kat focuses on training and ends up kicking men’s 🍑.
Loved it. Sped through it. Going straight into book 3 ✌🏻

THIS BOOK IS PERFECTION

I loved the original series to the point of obsession, and though I was sorely disappointed in Alina’s books because I honestly find her to be a bit of a selfish weak whiner, I held on because of my love for Katarina. The first was good, but DAMN it this recent book had everything I ever wanted and needed and more.

I am telling everyone I know to read this. Now my only problem is how I’ll wait until May to read the third book.

Side note to the author: I notice that in your bio, you seem to have many jobs. Why is writing not your primary one? You are insanely talented. I hope that you continue to share your imagination and passion with the reading world. Thank you from your devoted reader.
