MURDER USUALLY BOILS DOWN TO ONE OF TWO THINGS: LOVE OR MONEY

The story continues from the prequel, Invitation to Murder, where one author was murdered at the Mystery Readers of Maine Book Signing, Cabot Cove, Kennebunkport, Maine. From the event, four mystery authors become close friends and create the Mystery Writer’s Murder Club. The four authors are Jessica Murdock, Christie Crofton, Fiona Fowler, and Lori Sykes.

In this story, Jessica Murdock, who lives in Badger’s Drift, Maine feels she is in a lull with her writing, and during a phone conversation with Fiona, it comes out about taking a working vacation. Jessica will do just that, booking a room at the Lighthouse Inn. It is close to home, within walking distance to several of her favorite places, and has a beautiful view. What Jessica never expected to happen was for someone to be murdered in her room.

The story’s plot will have Detective Thorn Wilder of the Major Crime Unit (MCU) of the Maine State Police, given a case to go to Badger’s Drift to investigate and Thorn will be in charge of the investigation. Arriving and learning the victim is in a room Jessica has rented will begin with him having to clear her. Being a native of Badger’s Drift, she will aid Thorn in speaking with residents and learning all the connections. But it also gives Thorn and Jessica a chance to pursue the chemistry that they were experiencing in Kennebunkport when they met during the book conference where Sandy Perkins had been murdered. With her motel room the crime scene, she returns home with Thorn in tow.

Thorn: I had the most amazing night with you. I think you should know I’m in danger of falling head over heels for you.
Jessica: I think I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.
Thorn: Me too, and don’t let that beautiful brain start telling you it’s been too fast, or it can’t be real. We’re not teenagers. We know what we know. Got it?
Jessica: Got it.

I enjoyed the story and the two main characters, Jessica and Thorn. It was fun seeing how this case unfolded, the issues with the victim, and the shocking details uncovered.

I found out there was a prequel after reading but it was ok reading alone. This is a murder mystery with a romance element.

Jessica and Thorn are great characters with good chemistry. I enjoyed seeing the case unfold, good twists and nice amount of humour.

I've never been a fan of mysteries for some reason but Delta has come up with a winning combination with this series. This has a great storyline, characters that are personable with intelligence and a sense of humor, twists and turns that seem to play out as everyday happenings, chemistry, and of course, romance with a happily ever after. I don't know if I've been converted to all mysteries but Ms. James has hooked me with her writing style. I can't wait for the next one.

This is book one of the Mystery, She Wrote series and the main character is mystery writer Jessica Murdoch, who along with three other mystery writers she met at an event in Kennebunkport, Maine. When someone was murdered at the event, the women wanted to help solve the case, with a Detective Thorn Wilder of the state’s Major Crimes Unit, sent in to work the scene with the local cops, telling them to stop interfering and go back to writing about murders instead! None of the women listened, especially since retired homicide detective and now author, Christie Crofton, had picked up a thumb drive from the victim’s bag. The women retire back to Jessica’s room in the hotel to discuss the setting up of their own Mystery Writer’s Murder Club and decide when and how often they should met, but that maybe they should only look at cold cases next time! They are actually a great help to Detective Wilder, as the thumb drive contains details of stolen books, being sold to readers on an illegal website, without the authors’ permission. The other women, Christie, Fiona Fowler and Lori Skyes, all return to their home towns and Jessica returns to hers, Badger’s Drift, only to suddenly have writer’s block, something she never believed in or had herself. A friend suggests she get away, out of her normal routine somewhere, even in her own town, but out of her house and office where she normally writes! She ends up getting the last room in the luxurious suite overlooking the water, in a converted lighthouse, which is just perfect. She only needed to take a few items with her and could always go home if she needed anything else, and she already knew the area well. A different location, with all the comforts of home and none of the stress of travelling far.

Her first morning in her room, she leaves to watch the fishing boats go out, and returns to a B&B crawling with flashing lights and a dead body having been found in her room! Thorn has been called in to oversee the investigation and is flown in by helicopter, shocked to see her standing in the corner of the lobby. He has to ignore her in that moment so he doesn’t get distracted, but both have felt a pull for the other, with her falling asleep after the shock of previous events and a little too much to drink, leaving him wanting more. He has to question her officially, before he can reveal his feelings for her, making sure she can’t be thought of as a suspect and so he can also ask fro her help to question the locals. She knows most people in the small town and will help him narrow down the list of suspects, especially as the more he finds out about the dead man, the more suspects there appears to be! He invites himself to stay in her house, meeting her little basset hound Tracer, and her cook/housekeeper/gardener Sudie, who she couldn’t manage without. He gets Jessica accompanying him to each suspect interview and the things they find out the deceased man was doing to others, involving blackmail and a huge sex ring, are shocking and leave Jessica glad to see he is dead. Obviously the killer may well have been someone that was being blackmailed and had evidence held against them by the victim, giving them a great motive to get rid of him and hopefully the evidence as well. It may be fascinating for the murder club to look into cold cases in their own areas, but they seem to be running into quite a few real life murders and each gets embroiled in helping to solve them. This time round is Jessica’s turn and it looks like in the next book it will be one of the others who becomes a suspect and must prove her innocence. Nice touch of romance between Thorn and Jessica, as they work together and get to know each other better, finding out a few surprises and similarities between them. A cozy, easy to read murder mystery with some fantastic characters I can’t wait to see more of. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Hey, fellow book lovers! 📚✨ I just finished "Murder Before Dawn," the first book in the Mystery, She Wrote series by Delta James, and let me tell you, it's an absolute page-turner! 🕵️‍♀️🔍

Picture this: the quaint town of Badger's Drift, a famous local author, and a murder mystery unfolding in a luxurious bed and breakfast. Jessica Murdoch, our mystery novelist and member of the Mystery Writer’s Murder Club, finds herself in the middle of a real-life whodunit when a murder occurs in her own suite. Talk about a thrilling staycation!

The narrative introduces us to Thorn Wilder, a seasoned detective with the Badger’s Drift Police Department. Thorn's sharp mind quickly recognizes Jessica's potential as an asset in solving the case. As they team up, the chemistry between them becomes undeniable, adding a delightful layer of intrigue to the investigation.

What makes this cozy mystery a standout is the delightful cast of characters. It's not just about solving the crime but also about discovering the heart of the community and the intriguing personalities that inhabit it.

In conclusion, if you're into fast-paced mysteries with quirky characters, a lovable basset hound, and unexpected twists, the Mystery, She Wrote series is a must-read. I really can’t help that I pretty much give every Delta James story a 5 star rating, whether in my mind, or actually posted. Blame that on Delta. 😆😉. I love her Shifters, her Alpha males & feisty females.

Murder Before Dawn merits another 5 stars, even tho it’s a ‘new’ genre. There’s a short prequel, Invitation to Murder, a freebie that starts off this new series; get it, read it. It’ll introduce the series premise along with the leading ladies. It also leads right into Murder Before Dawn.

I’ve never been to Maine, the setting for MBD, but I saw it thru this story. Beautiful! Someday, maybe.

Thorn Wilder is the newest hunk… er… alpha male; a detective with Maine’s Major Crime Unit. He met Jessica Murdoch, best selling mystery writer, in the prequel, and meets her again here. The attraction that started earlier, explodes. Before it does, Thorn & Jessica get to know… and respect… each other. I loved it. Thorn had some obstacles to clear before he could fully pursue Jessica, which he quickly did. He didn’t want any problems with his investigation or their relationship. Jessica wasn’t thrilled to be considered a suspect when the local sleaze was found dead in her B & B room, but had to respect Thorn’s ethics. Jessica is a very competent investigator in her own right, courtesy of her wide ranging research, and knows the village and the people. It’s her village, her neighbors. She’s soon aiding Thorn’s investigation.

Turns out, nobody is really going to miss the dead guy… but who had reason to kill him?

No spoilers, but I was very satisfied with the ending!

I don’t usually quote from books that I review, but this bit resonated: ‘ I live by two very simple ideals: you leave the situation better than you found it, and those who have the ability to do so, have the responsibility to do so. You do that every single day by virtue of what you do.’ MBD is not a self-help book or anything similar; it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s fun, it’s entertainment. I read it in a sitting. But when you find a gem, no matter how unexpected its source, you hold on to it. I found a gem; I will hold on to it. It’s a win!

Now, you’ll have to excuse me. As she frequently does, Delta James offers a Bonus scene at the end of the book, for newsletter subscribers. Mine just came. I have to read it. And… just so you know… I can’t wait for the next entry in this fun new series. I have my suspicions as to what secrets may be revealed, but you’ll have to wait till I get it, read it, review it. I may confirm… or not. 😆😉😆

Oh, and, I received an advance review copy for free, but I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“Murder Before Dawn" is a gripping and exciting murder mystery that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. This book, the first installment in the Mystery, She Wrote series by Delta James, is a captivating story of friendship, intrigue, and romance.

The plot picks up from the prequel, "Invitation to Murder," with four mystery authors forming a close bond after a tragic murder. In "Murder Before Dawn," we follow the journey of Jessica Murdock, a talented novelist living in Badger's Drift, Maine. Feeling uninspired with her writing, Jessica decides to take a working vacation, booking a room at the charming Lighthouse Inn. Little does she know that her peaceful stay will be disrupted by a shocking murder within the confines of her own room.

Detective Thorn Wilder of the Major Crime Unit is assigned to the case and heads to Badger's Drift to investigate. Soon, Jessica finds herself caught up in the investigation, aiding Thorn in solving the crime while also exploring their own budding chemistry. As they dig deeper into the case, secrets are revealed, and unsuspected connections come to light.

The author does a fantastic job of unraveling the complex plot, keeping readers guessing until the very end. Each revelation and twist adds to the excitement and anticipation, making it a true page-turner. The characters, especially Jessica and Thorn, are well-developed and likable. Their chemistry adds an extra layer of intrigue and romance to the story.

Furthermore, the presence of Tracer, Jessica's loyal basset hound, adds an endearing touch to the narrative. This cozy mystery is spicier than others in the genre, offering a unique blend of suspense and romance.

Overall, "Murder Before Dawn" is an impressive first book in the Mystery, She Wrote series. The author successfully keeps readers engaged with a well-crafted mystery that continuously surprises and captivates. If you enjoy thrilling murder mysteries with a touch of romance, this book is a must-read. I can't wait to see what Delta James has in store for us in the next installment!

“Murder Before Dawn” by Delta James is a cozy mystery that combines an intriguing story with interesting characters. There is a prequel to this story and several more yet to come. That prequel, “Invitation to Murder”, set the scene of one author murdered at the Mystery Readers of Maine Book Signing, in Kennebunkport, Maine. Four mystery writers attending the event become friends; together they create the Mystery Writer’s Murder Club. “Murder Before Dawn” is written so that even if you haven’t read the prequel, everything will make sense.

Jessica Murdock, one of the aforementioned mystery writers, attends the book signing event. She lives nearby in Maine and likes the area and hotel where the event is being held. Jessica expects to have a good time, but doesn’t expect someone to be murdered in her room. She also doesn’t expect to meet him a man like Detective Thorn Wilder. He is with the state police, and is put in charge of the murder investigation. Because she is a native of the nearby town, she ends up helping Thorn deal with local residents. Thorn and Jessica had intense personal chemistry when they met during the book conference, and her involvement in the investigation puts them in a perfect situation for that to develop.

I thought this book had an excellent storyline, punctuated by clever twists and turns that are revealed by things that simply happen in the book. There is a good amount of wit and humor woven into the story, as well. Jessica and Thorn both have issues to overcome, and both change and grow during the story. Their personalities and skill sets complement one another and benefit the investigation. I thought the ending was nicely done, and I’m looking forward to the next story in the series!.

I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily sharing my thoughts and opinions.

Delta James is a terrific writer, and this book is such a fascinating story that is different from her other books. I had to read it because, well, it's Delta James! I was hooked from the beginning. This murder mystery takes place in a small town in Maine where Jessica Murdoch, a mystery writer resides. In "Invitation to Murder" (the prequel), Jessica met several other murder mystery authors at a convention, and they formed the Mystery Writers Murder Club after someone was murdered at the convention. Thorne Wilder, a detective with the Major Crime Unit with the Maine State Police was the detective on the case and Jessica and her fellow club members were able to help him solve the case.

Now there is another murder, this time in Jessica's room at the Lighthouse Inn where she was staying to work on her next book. The victim was disliked by most of the town, and no one was heartbroken that he died. The local police call in Det. Thorne Wilder to help with the case. He and Jessica have an instant attraction to one another, and she becomes his consultant on the case. There were so many twists and turns to the book as Thorne and Jessica search for the murderer. The list of possible murderers was long and, as the vileness of the victim came to light, each suspect had a reason for murder.

The ending was a real surprise and James kept my attention from the first page. She has a wonderful ability to craft a thoughtful and intriguing story. In the end, who was the real victim in the story, the murdered man, or others in the town?

This is book one in The Mystery, She Wrote series and it is Jessica and Thorn’s story and what a great start to a new series. Jessica is a mystery author and also a member of The Mystery Writer’s Murder Club with her friends and when Jessica has a bit of writer’s block she decides to take a break with her friends in Maine but when a murder takes place in her own suite she decides to not only find out who done it and why. Thorn is part of the major crime unit in the Maine State Police and when a murder is committed he is assigned to investigate the case but what he wasn’t expecting is Jessica who is a quick thinker and really thorough the same as he is so they end up working together to solve the crime while finding out and unraveling all the secrets that the town seems to be hiding. Jessica and Thorn are instantly attracted to each other and work really well together along with Jessica’s basset hound Tracer but will they manage to find the person responsible for the murder before they strike again which will make everyone’s life even more complicated. There are twists and turns along with danger, mystery, suspense, secrets and situations that will have you on the edge of your seat while turning the pages to find out who the culprit is and bring them to justice along with clearing Jessica’s name and then add in the chemistry between them and you have a really brilliant mystery romance. I can’t wait to read the next book in this addictive series.

This was a romantic cozy mystery.

Run don't walk to get this series! Beginning with the prequel Invitation to Murder, the author sets up the main female characters for the series. The combination of mystery and steamy romance in this book wouldn't let me put it down. The characters are realistic, relatable and addictive. I cannot wait for the rest of the series to release. Highly recommend! Must read!

This book in the series focuses on Jessica Murdoch and Detective Thorn Wilder (McSexy as Jess and her friends refer to him).

Jessica runs into a wall writing her current book so she takes Fiona's suggestion for a change of scenery and books a week in the Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast at the other end of town hoping to recapture her inspiration. After going for an early morning coffee run she returns to the B&B to find the place crawling with police. A local real estate developer Gregory Thompson was found dead in her room. Thorn is put in charge of the investigation and though he is excited to see Jessica again he has to rule her out as a suspect first. What emerges next is far greater than a run of the mill murder investigation with a surprising but satisfying conclusion. Meanwhile Jessica and Thorn begin a life altering steamy relationship.

Badger's Drift is a quaint and quiet small town on the coast of Maine and Jessica Murdoch a mystery novelist calls it home. When she experiences some difficulties in writing her latest book, she takes a fellow writers' advice and books a room at a nearby bed and breakfast for a relaxing, and hopefully productive, staycation. When a local developer ends up dead in her suite, she decides it's up to her to find out why he was murdered, and what he was doing in her room. Thorn Wilder is the detective assigned to investigate the murder and he's determined to clear Jessica of any involvement in the death of the local man who is not at all well-liked by the other residents of the town. With Jessica as an unofficial consultant, Thorn will quickly realize that there is a dark secret lying beneath the surface of the lives of some of the town's residents.
Wow, I loved these characters. Jessica and Thorn are fascinating, and their interactions are fast-paced and engaging. All of the characters are well written and believable. A wonderful small-town mystery with surprising twist in the plot, and adorable basset hound, and a little bit of steam make this a must-read cozy mystery. I highly recommend this book to other readers.

I was surprised by this book. It was different from much of the author's previous work. Yet, it had some of the same elements in a much more tame form, lol.

I liked the chemistry between Thorn and Jessica. There was a good level of witty conversation with hints of sarcasm. Thorn and Jessica fell hard and fast. I did like that Thorn respected Jessica's talents enough to include her in his work. I also enjoyed the interactions Jessica had with the other writers.

I think this would have been a five star read for me if Jessica and Thorn had more interactions before they made that final leap. Or, if their encounters had more interaction between the two of them. He had been thinking about her and she had been thinking about him. Their previous encounters felt more like pass throughs than actual engagements.

This was a fast paced murder mystery that almost felt cozy. I read it in one sitting. I actually did not realize who the murderer was until almost the very end and it was shoved in my face. An entertaining beginning to a new series.

I am an ARC reader and this is my honest opinion. I enjoyed this story, sort of based on the "Murder, she wrote" series but the Jessica who stars in it is young - early 30 something I think - and named after the heroine of the series. She is also a mystery writer and has the same mind for solving crimes but there the similarity ends. Detective Thorn Wilder, nick named Mcsexy by Jessica's friends, 3 fellow mystery writers, arrived to investigate a murder and when he returns to the Maine Serious crimes Unit, he and Jessica think and fantasize about each other, thinking they won't see each other again - until another murder takes place in Badger's Drift, Jessica's home town. The solving of the crime is quite quick and quite interesting, and I don't mind a bit of romance as part of the story, but for me it only got 4 stars because of the rather explicit description of the sex between Jessica and Thorn. It was unnecessary and took up more pages than the author needed to convey how hard they had fallen for each other. If I wanted to read an explicit sex book I wouldn't need a couple of murders thrown in. Leaving that aside, this is a good, light read

A simply riveting read, great characters and wonderful storyline
This was a simply wonderful read and I have to say that from the moment I started reading this wonderful story I was hooked. I was total captivated and could not put it down till I reached the last page and discovered what the outcome was.
I thoroughly enjoyed the two main characters Jessica and Thorn, the instant attraction between them was something that could only have been chemically related and it was a simply wonderful thing to read and I guarantee that other readers will feel exactly the same as myself.
The pair are acting a mystery that you will be riveted by and that will keep you guessing , I also guarantee that you will be left looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Nice cozy mystery featuring author Jessica Murdoch and Detective Thorn Wilder of the Maine State Police's Major Crimes Unit. If you read Invitation to Murder you will recognize these two from the murder at the Mystery Readers of Maine Book Signing in Kennebunkport. Jessica is back home in Badger's Drift where she lives with her basset hound, Tracer, and her employee and friend, Sudie. Writer's block has Jessica ready to scream when her friend, Fiona, suggests she try a change of scenery and book a room in the local B&B for a 'staycation'. Jessica quickly follows through on the suggestion and hasn't been in residence even a day when a man is found murdered in her room. Thorn is dispatched to investigate the murder and is inexplicably happy to find Jessica involved in the case. Though he has to clear her first, he knows her local knowledge and quick mind will be a big help. Of course, he has other reasons for wanting to get close to the beautiful woman...

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

I am so loving this series! This is technically the first book, but there is also a prequel that I definitely suggest be read as well. I am a huge fan of Delta James and she never disappoints. This book was no different. This series is keeping me so hooked!

Jessica is in trouble right from the start when someone was murdered in her room at the Lighthouse Inn. This was supposed to be a working vacation to help Jessica get over her writer's block and has turned into a real life murder mystery.

I loved Thorn from the moment he was introduced. He is the detective in charge of the investigation and ends up teaming up with Jessica to not only clear her name but to have her insight and help in solving the murder.

This was so good and kept me hooked until the end along with leaving me in anticipation for more! I strongly recommend this book and this series to anyone looking for an incredible romantic suspense with characters to fall for! A tremendously entertaining new series starter from Author Delta James filled with wonderful characters that were so easy to connect with. That personally allowed me to float along in this bubble of reading pleasure. Loved the plot! For me it was a new direction from my usual reading genres/ tropes, which can be a little scarey as one's mindset is trained along certain routes but the pure joy of stepping into the "unknown" and gaining that much deserved feeling of pure exhilaration from reading is always a winner. A well devised and created plot filled nicely with action, drama, the wonderful allure of sexual tensions between the two main characters all wrapped deliciously in a murder mystery is a certain winner for keeping my full attention from start to finish.
And as naughty as I was in not reading this as quickly as I should have, I was lucky to fall straight into the next instalment in the series.
I was provided with an advanced readers copy of "Murder Before Dawn" for an honest review.

When four mystery writers meet at a convention, the result is murder! Their newfound friendships spawn a cold-case club, but when one of their own is suspected of homicide, she makes it her mission to find the true killer.

This story was absolutely gripping. It takes many a twist and a turn to reach the solution, keeping the reader guessing the entire time.

The main character, Jessica, has led a charmed life with inheritance, success and accolades being all hers for the taking. Despite this, she's a very sympathetic character who looks to solve the mystery solely to gain justice for the victim. Jessica's relationship with Thorn positions them as a dream team, ready and able to solve the most intricate of crimes. Both characters are intriguing.

There are explicit and intimate scenes, and readers who disapprove of such should be aware. Murder Before Dawn is a very modern cosy.

Thank you to BookSirens and Delta James. My opinions are my own, honest and true.

Jessica was at a multiple book signing when one of the writers was killed. Her and 3 other mystery writers decided to start up a bi-monthly meetings called the Murder Mystery Club get together and decided that they would solve the murder. Thorn was the detective sent to investigate when the Major Crimes Unit was called, one of the women had picked up a hard drive that had fallen out of the purse. He asked to get what was picked up finally gave it to him but had a copy and realized what was on it so Jessica had to tell him what the chart meant. Thorn was attracted to Jessica and she was to him also, saved her when the killer went after Jessica. Later he was sent to her hometown to solve a murder the dead person found in her B&B room asked her for her help because the mystery club solved a cold case. They also admitted their feelings for each other and solved the murder. Good book!.

Jessica Murdoch is a mystery writer as well as a member of a group of mystery writers that get together to solve cold cases. While at a writers book signing one of the writer's is murdered. There she meets Detective Thorn Wilder. Her and her friends help him. A few months later as Jessica a sort of stay cation in her home town she in once again involved in a murder. This time it's of someone who everyone in town despises. Once again Detective MacSexy is assigned to the case. Well now he's actually asking for her assistance. As they try to find out who did it, they become closer. Now they just have to decide whether it will be fruitful to join together or not. After all they are two independent strong people with ideas that really come close to each other's.
A fantastic mystery that will have the reader enthralled on two fronts: the murder and a romance.

Thorn Wilder, a homicide detective, hasn’t been able to get famous author Jessica Murdoch out of his head since she and her friends helped him solve a murder several months ago. Now called to the scene of yet another murder in which sassy writer has become embroiled, Thorn has to work first to clear her of suspicion, then with her to ferret out the killer.

The plot is a complex one but perfectly balances clue-finding with chemistry as the romance between Thorn and Jessica heats up. Nice additions are the personable basset hound and the solid friendships between the four Mystery Writer’s Murder Club members – Jessica, Fiona, Lori and Christie. The Maine setting is also nicely drawn.

The mystery/romance hybrid may be a new one for Delta, but it’s one she easily masters much to my reading delight.

This was such a refreshing and fun read! I kind of wish I was traveling because this book would be a perfect read while traveling or on vacation. I love murder mysteries but sometimes they’re too dark or difficult to really get into and that was not my experience with this book. You have a really smart FMC involved in the middle of the drama and a swoon-worthy MMC who kind of lets his girl have the spotlight and lead, even though he’s in charge of the investigation. Together they try to solve the mystery of who killed the town jerk, who had quite the list of enemies. The FMC also has the cutest basset hound and as a huge dog person, I wish he was more involved in the book lol. If you need a book that’s fun, quick, and will scratch that murder mystery itch, this is for you!

Another Delta James with a twist in the tale.

This is a sweet story with some raunch.

By that I mean the main characters know who they are, make no excuses, they are attracted to each other, so why wait to start their relationship (which can be explicit). And yes, that does happen in real life as well.

Then there is the whodunnit component & it's fun to try and guess just who it was.

I live in a small coastal town and enjoyed the descriptions of the similarities of here and Badger's Drift, case in point sitting on the harbour watching the fishing boats do what they do.

This is part of a series although can be read as a standalone. It's fun, the heroine (Jessica) is no pushover, has earned her own money, has a seriously 😎 car; the hero (Thorn) has a 😎 car as well & a boat. Together, they are a formidable team!

This is a great book introducing the Murder Club members and Mystery She Wrote series. Jessica and Thorn are believable characters who meet at a murder scene at a writing conference. The other murder Club members are interesting as well but this book focuses on Jessica and then Thorn who arrives in Jessica’s hometown in Maine to investigate a murder. They are both well developed characters and are very likeable. There is definitely chemistry between the two.

I really liked all the dialogue that moved the story along rather than large sections of narrative that others often use. The story has a realistic plot and flows at a good pace. I found parts of the book to be quite humorous even thought a murder was being investigated.

There was a large number of characters in the story but they all meshed together so it was easy to keep track of them. The ending was appropriate.

A Steamy Who Done It..

The first book in Delta’s sweet new Mystery, She Wrote series and i think it’s on its way to a new favourite series…
Jess Murdoch is an a murder mystery author who is stuck, her writing has stalled, to a point that she moves into the local B&B to inspire her creativity only to have the local shady businessman found murdered in her room…
Detective Thorn Wilder is assigned the case but he and Jess have butted heads before (prequel Invitation to Murder) must try to clear Jess as a suspect before claiming her help to open the lines of small town communications and solve the murder…
This is vastly different than Delta’s previous other books but still no less a thrilling read and I can’t wait to read more..
