Scout Talbot-Smith doesn’t want Trey Montgomery as his roommate. Scout isn’t a people person, and Trey takes his duties as house manager a little too seriously. But it turns out that rooming with a guy who thinks leaving a towel on the floor is a crime isn’t the worst thing. No, the worst thing is that Scout is in the middle of a romantic dry spell, and listening to Trey take care of himself every night is driving him crazy.
Which is when Scout makes Trey an offer too good to refuse. After all, what’s easier than a bro giving another bro a helping hand?
It’s cool. It doesn’t mean anything. There aren’t any feelings involved. It’s just two guys being bros. Right?
Uh oh.
Bro Jobs is a 15 000 word novella set in the Alpha Tau universe, before the events of The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project.
This was a fun and sweet novella. I loved Trey and Scout in book 1, so I was happy to read more about them. I only wish they got a full-length novel, too.
Loved seeing all the other characters again, and the boys from Theta Phis are pretty great, too. Even Scout's parents pleasantly surprised me in this one.
Bro Jobs is a must-read little nugget of joy, for all fans of the awesome cast of frat bros who made up The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project, who, like me, simply wanted MORE, MORE, MORE!!
Although, timeline wise, this short story is set before the events that took place in book one, it’s definitely meant to be read afterwards, showing us first-hand how a certain pair of Alpha Tau roommates went from frat bros, to frat bros with bro job benefits, to head over heels boyfriends.
It may be a super short read but it’s definitely memorable, delivering friends-to-lovers goodness, lots of bisexual awakening deliciousness, and a f*ck ton of sexy-sweet, feel-good vibes that just don’t quit, start to finish.
I’m completely won over by this college-set world and these oblivious but loveable characters, and I can’t wait to see what charm and hilarity the future sequels bring!! ❤️
Not me saying to Kati : “I don’t like going back for a couple I already met nininninini “ 🤣🤣 Well I went 🤥 And I loved it. My bestie kept insisting I would like it so I caved and she was right. It reminded me so so much of J. Northcote’s Helping hand and N. Wilder’s Want me !! I looooved those two books and I loved this short one . I wish it had been longer :(
Scout’s and Trey’s novella was sweet but also a totally unnecessary addition.
And why the hell are there only hand- and blow jobs in both the romances? Laaaaaaameeee! My smut-loving heart is disappointed but it still was hot, tho.

Nothing better than reading a short and sweet story of two brothers giving each other a helping hand like in Bro Jobs. Short and sweet and straight (okay, well not so straight) to the point, this amusing prequel was just what I needed to kickstart my November reads. I think I need to loosen up more in my reading tastes and thankfully, Scout and Trey delivered in spades. 😊
Two handsome bros sharing a room together - what could possibly go wrong? Well, apparently everything! Okay, I seem to have woken with a bit of a tickle in my funny bones. 😅 So, let me begin again. Ahem, *clears throat*
“He could have teased me, made some joke about how I assumed I’d be getting some, but that... wasn’t us. That wasn’t what this was. Except what I’d thought this was also didn’t take place in the daytime, in rooms other than our own.
So fuck if I knew what the rules were anymore. Maybe I’d never known.”
It was a lovely introduction to Lisa Henry and Sarah's latest collab - I have enjoyed both of their individual works, so I was interested to see what it's like when their ideas and writings come together (oops, there I go again! 😏) And I enjoyed it - the idea is, of course, nothing new, but I liked Scout - a solid, good, decent guy who suddenly has an important epiphany in the middle of the night when he and Trey decide to help each other out of some rather sticky situations... 🤭 OMG, please stop me! And all their nightly incursions awakens a new feeling inside of him that he never thought to explore, because Trey is just his bro. His bro that ...'it wasn’t violence he met me with when he crossed the space between our bed. It was warmth. The warmth of his body beside mine, shoulder to shoulder, thigh to thigh, as he slipped between the sheets as easy as breathing.' 🥺
It is a shame that there wasn't more to it than just their brojobs - nothing more, nothing less - it was relatively angst-free and I appreciated that. Aside from Scout's wavering and conflicting emotions about whatever the hell was going on now between him and Trey and if it was really normal or not, I liked how Trey never pushed Scout. He never forced him to do anything he didn't want - simply went with the flow, never argued or wavered and when Scout was at the threshold of finally stepping over that line, he embraced it wholeheartedly and very warmly. 🥹
“Trey raised his eyebrows. “What’s that smile for?”
“Shut up,” I said. “I don’t smile.”
But I did. For him.”
I have read the next book, so I can say this - I like that when the narrator has their 'I see the light' moment, there's someone with them - who doesn't mock them for their decisions or awakening, but guides them through it and serves as a moral support. No pressure, no tension, just kindness and understanding. Scout was having a brief meltdown, but Bax, his older brother, was such a stable rock at that moment - even if the family has come together to celebrate his upcoming nuptials, Bax took the time to just be really supportive, really level-headed, very jocular, but still offer the brotherly love (the actual kind, I assure you!) advice, and I liked that. 🫶🏻👍🏻🫶🏻
And y'know? I think how Scout's family treated Trey was actually kinda nice - no, I don't mean their interrogation and the inner rage Scout was feeling at their supposed old-fashioned racial values. It's just the fact they just accepted it - without question or having Scout saying anything about it - thinking it was for what it was - I thought that actually showed more character and acceptance than it would have been if he had actually come with other intentions. It made me happy and I like being happy. 🥰🥰
3.5 ⭐️ If you loved Trey and Scout, side characters from The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project and want to see how they got together, then Bro Jobs is mandatory reading. It’s a quick hour read.
“Wow. Skipping out on your own family? I never realized just what an antisocial little hobbit you are.” “Excuse me! I am not a damn hobbit.” “No, you’re right. Hobbies are pretty social. You’re more of a cranky little goblin.”
4.5 ⭐️
I love them so much 😭 Trey is so patient with Scout and Scout is so likable (to a similarly grouchy person 🤣). I like it so so much better than book 1 in the series. I just liked the dynamic and how their story played out.
And holy crap Scouts parents turned out amazing!

I like this. It was the perfect length for what this was. It was short so there was no room for unnecessary fluff. It was straight to the point, it depicted how everything started, gave way to the connection and slowly translated into devotion. No conflict and just enough peddling to make you feel the chemistry. I think it would have been nice to have a longer book about these two but i think with what we have been given, this was perfect.
Just excellent! Intelligent and hot, the best combination in a man, and in a book. I like this couple and am looking forward to their appearances in future books.
4 stars I would like to know why the authors thought it was a great idea to give this two just a novella. Why??? They deserved a whole book!
Scout, like Archer, is an oblivious bro who discovers his sexuality thanks to a forced proximity situation. Trey seems more collected, but all his love for Scout is undeniable from all the little gestures.
We definitely need more about these two, I hope the author will give them more space in the following books of the series.
“There has been no making out.” On that point I was clear. “Just…y’know. Bro stuff. You know how it is.” Bax topped up my glass. “Pretend I don’t and explain it to me.” I shrugged. “It’s… we’re both single. Trey’s an attractive guy. We jerk off and stuff. It’s convenient, that’s all. Trey’s not gay. I’m not gay.” “Scout,” Bax said in that spooked-horse tone of voice again, “I think you might be at least a little bit gay. And you know what? That’s actually fine.”
Cute in some ways but mostly it seemed underdeveloped and too rushed. Scout’s gay awakening wasn't done well and didn't feel believable. It was way too far and ridiculous a stretch to think that, after being in their company for only a few hours, Scout’s family realized he and Trey were boyfriends, esp considering he previously only identified as straight. Come on. I didn’t feel the connection betw the MCs and their sex scenes felt basic. I’ve read book 1 in this series and enjoyed it, so am disappointed this was such a bust for me.
Scout is one of the older frat members of Alpha Tau, yet he still has to share rooms. In order to avoid being roomed with the nutcase Marty, he persuades the president to have him share with Trey, the very strict house manager. Apart from that they get along, both diligent prelaw students and ambitious. Scout is also very closed off, more severyly buttoned up than his blazers.
Liveing with Trey makes him get loose anyhow. The way this happens seems really, really far fetched to me (bro jobs by straight dudes, honestly!???), but who cares if this is either an evidence how hairbrained male students in the US are or if they are just so not in sync with their own feelings/identity.
The parents reacted incredibly open-minded, much more that would have been expected from their background and the vibes we get from Scout.
Novellas are always too short a storytelling form for me: if I like the protags, I want to spend more time with them, get to know them better. Here, the story eased me into The Amazing Alpha Tau boyfriend project which I had trouble getting into since a group of drunken frat boys misbehaving themselves at a wedding reception is not something that hooks me into a book. Knowing two of them made me more indulgent (well, I didn't automatically presume they were drunk, too, which in fact they weren't as much).
So thanks for the dear friend who informed me of this story and made it available to me even though she herself didn't care mus for it: Danke!
If you like hilarious yet clueless frat bros discovering all the ways they can “help a bro out,” have I got the novella for you.
Bro Jobs is just the perfect novella/prequel to their new series. Did I devour it like the tasty snack it is? Yes. Did I immediately start book 1? Oh, hell, yes. If this newsletter gift was designed to entice readers to their new series, it worked like gangbusters on me.
Scout is not excited to have to share a room with house manager Trey, as he’s known to be pretty meticulous. But he’s better than the alternative. While Scout is pretty reserved, he and Trey get to know each other as roommates, particularly when certain late-night activities are hard to disguise. But maybe they can help each other out with that … difficult situation? But one night quickly turns to more regular and more intense encounters. Have they become more than just bros?
I loved clueless and grumpy Scout. This novella was just a damn delight, filled with snark and steam and real sweetness (Trey is the best and has the patience of a saint). Definitely recommend.
WHYYY is this simply a novella?! Scout and Trey need their own full length story! When I say I am LIVING for Scout and Trey!
Trey and Scout were side characters in The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project. In that book, you get a peek into their friendship. They were great side characters.
This story gives more insight into Scout and Trey. The storyline was wonderful, the pacing was on point. The steam was super mild though. Still hot, but mild. It could have been increased way more. The way Scout and Trey organically flowed into their relationship was done so well.
Also, and I must add this because representation is important, kudos to Lisa Henry for writing a well done, non-stereotypical, M/M interracial story. Trey was me and the story was like insanely relatable on a personal level.
Seriously though, well done story. I demand more Trey and Scout lol
This book precedes the Alpha Tau universe, but has been provided as a standalone read as to the story before the remainder of the series.
Here, in the style of Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey, the inside story of how two of the main characters in the Alpha Tau universe came to be together. Scout Talbot-Smith, whose father is a well-established political player, and Trey Montgomery is the house manager for the frat. They come to be roommates at the frat house, and as such, things happen.
Our two authors give us the reason they became chummy and how the sexuality spectrum awakening of the two leads to new experiences. Their awakening also comes in a social setting with the family of Scout Talbot-Smith, whose home figures prominently in the first entry in this series.
This is a great fan-book and our two authors don't let us down.
This was short and oh so readable. Scout and Trey were great together. I'm a sucker for an oblivious main character, like Scout, finding a partner, like Trey, who just gets them and has the patience to wait for the oblivious one to realize that they're in love and/or in a relationship. I loved and needed this no drama read and look forward to continuing the series.
Awwww!!! Scout and Trey are super cute! Their story is fast paced and fun. Though I think my personal favorite part was Bax’s talk with Scout at the house. 😂😂😂
While technically a prequel, I would recommend reading after book 1.
4.5 ⭐️ This novella had the perfect amount of everything: cuteness, sassiness and pages! I hope Trey and Scout’s story continues in the background of the series just like it did in book 1, because i sort of want to see that ring giving please and thank you
fun and cute and mindless, just how i like em🤩 but also i needed more!!! like just one more chapter…..with them actually fucking and i’d be set plssss why have i been starved😩😣
