Hidden Scars

Rate this book
He’s a beast to all …. but for her, he cages his beast.

Naseer
My days of being an alpha are long gone. I’d resigned myself to staying hidden forever.
Out of nowhere, she walks in. Surprising us both, I asked her to “Sit with Me.” Three words that would change everything.
I would later realize that the universe had slowed me down, then gave me a second chance and that second chance came with Jade by my side. Like I told my dad, “I would destroy a thousand men for Jade.”
No one gets it. Jade is a need that I cannot do without.

Jade

“Sit with Me,” he said. Little did I know those three words would be the beginning of us.
Subconsciously, I knew the word “US” would only be temporary because I’m the girl from the other side, and they all consider me unworthy of him.
The beast is the one that makes my heart thump.
Unfortunately, the beast is forbidden.

I was on the verge of DNFing this book so many times, but I decided to get on with it because I was offered the arc for an honest review, even though I don't like leaving bad reviews or DNFing books.

This book is too long, first of all. The author could have written the same story in fewer pages. It was incredibly repetitive. The way these characters speak is weird, not at all like peple in their 20s and 30s.
The concept was interesting, it had so many tropes that I like, a hidden relationship, alpha man, age gap, secret/forbidden romance. Even though this book has these tropes, it still felt like they were not well executed at all.

Naseer's toxicity and Jade's idiocy didn't even affect me or put me off reading, but it was the continuous repetitions, stupid misunderstanding, Jade continuously saying I'm with you now even though I know you'll break up with me soon enough.

Don't get me even start on the prince acadamy, and his "pleasure exams", what is that? It was so useless and put there for no reason and no one's benefit.

And that ending? I have to be honest, it left me a bit curious about what happens next, but I'll be in no hurry to read book 2 if it's so long and repetitive.

Terrible (contains spoilers)

The level of childishness was hard to stomach.
Let’s start with Jade. I know she was young but her constant childish games about maybe meeting another man was ridiculous. These games only bred mistrust given how possessive Naseer was. Jade was also deeply selfish. She had a plan for her life and never once tried to understand Naseer’s life as a Prince or try to strategize about their relationship. She was also far too easily manipulated by everyone, creating a constant roller coaster. Naseer father was awful but if she really loved him, she could have got in contact with him without his dad knowing.
As for Naseer, his attitude didn’t match his age. I also hoped that he had more cunning to protect her knowing how greedy his father was. For instance, why didn’t he try to speak to the King to either impose Jade or let him go?
Lastly, if I was him I don’t think I would ever forgive my sister for hiding my children from me.

This had a good concept but I just could not get into it as much as I thought I would.

I honestly thought I would DNF a few times but I powered through it. While some aspects wee good, others just really turned me off.

Paragraph after paragraph it was super repetitive.

The toxicity of the two didn’t even bother me but the repetitiveness of it and the ohhh we would never work, stay in our own lane every other sentence really really irked me.

First book from this author and I all I can say is 😕 I went in expecting something *stand-alone and got a different experience. The premise was great, the troupes had me at a chokehold but it genuinely felt like a bad upgraded wattpad novel. I won’t be continuing with the series and unless somethings changes with the author’s writing style I won’t be reading more of her books either, which deeply pains me for I am also from Nigeria and was rooting for the representation this book had to offer.

If you're looking for age gap with forbidden romance and grumpy sunshine than this is for you .This book mainly follows jade but it's about jade and Naseer grief and how they find comfort in each other. Jade is a kind and loving person. Naseer is grumpy and demanding person but only nice to Jade. This book was very stressful and engaging read . I couldn't put it down . I loved how Naseer fought for their relationship no matter what and how he always tried to protect her. My favorite chapters has to be 6 and 53.This was a fun rollercoaster read and definitely recommended.

They were the very opposite, from two different world, and don’t forget the age gap, she was sixteen and he was twenty six … wow ! They were both living in a nightmarish pain, her from loosing both parents from a fire and him, a motorcycle accident that almost took his and had him in pain and bedridden for almost a year… imagine a handsome young man who was living it up and now scared and helpless. 🤔
They met kind by accident and he enjoyed talking to her and from there they healed each other and their bound only strengthens and changed to something stronger… Fast forward, his father only tolerated her because of her effects on him to get better when before he was dark and even contemplating offing himself. But when he got better, the father had no use for her and plotting to get rid of her.
Their love for each other is strong but the odds are high… A lot will happen between high school to college…
I can’t wait for book 2, I am hopping they will put their insecurity and jealousy aside and together stand and fight the demons namely Mr Darabi and Nadra … they are 2 strong people, they need to stop arguing and enjoying their family. Mr Darabi needs to get in his lane so is the bi••h !! Enough!!
Loved it!!

So I am not sure what I think, it had so much potential but for some reason it didn’t deliver.
The leads were irritating and the story was at times boring. I had to really struggle to read through the whole story. Since I haven’t read much from this author I am still curious about other novels, but this particular book just didn’t work for me. I do hope however other will enjoy it.

Naseer is a bit childish when it comes to his ex. Jade is naive, but that's to be expected at her age. Book two is going to be so good. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Jade: Hidden Scars: A Forbidden Age-Gap Romance is the first book in this series. A story of second chances, forbidden love and those who want to keep them a part.
Naseer and Jade's journey is a twisty road to love. They are both broken. They are from two different worlds; two different cultures and he is much older than she is. But with scheming and plotting to destroy them and keep them apart do they even stand a chance.
There are characters that are likable and some you would like to smack them and others you would like to shake because of their naivety and childishness. I found it a little hard to connect fully with them making it hard to truly lose myself in the story.
A. Akinosho writes a tale that has healing, strength, secrets, lies, insecurities, jealousy, drama, angst, betrayal, frustrations, hopes, dreams and let’s not forget those conspiring against them.
Give it a go because you never know you may fall in love with it.

Naseer does something that leaves him angry and distancing himself from anyone who was close to him. Jade has had her life uprooted and is living in a new place with an empty heart. While working on a class project she meets Naseer, two broken souls find themselves connecting and Naseer realizes she is his one. This is the story of their journey of finding one another and what happens next.

Overall great idea for a story. This is the first part of Jade and Naseer's story. There are so many facets to their relationship and you want to know more about this couple. I thought Naseer was a bit spoiled in the beginning but he makes up for his behavior later. Jade was an intriguing character who becomes a very strong woman. I would be curious as to what happens next.

Needs to be heavily edited

Should be heavily edited so that it flows and makes sense. Almost seems as if it was put through Google translate, and it did a poor job of translating to English. The ideas of the book are good, just such a difficult read because of all the errors.

This is book 1 of Jade. An age gap romance of 2 people that were never meant to be together. Nasser was broken and lost and only Jade seemed to be able to pull him back to the land of the living. Jade was broken in her own ways. Together they find what they each need even though everyone tries to keep them apart. It was a good story with a compelling story. This story will continue in book 2.

Slow burn. Growth. Twists. This is the first book I have read by the undeniably talented A Akinosho. While at first, I was iffy on the age gap between a sixteen- and twenty-six-year-old, the fact that the book covered years made it more understandable and a clear love story to overcome all. That said the book was not illicit but more of a Romeo and Juliet type story. The dual perspectives of Naseer and Jade take you on a rollercoaster of friendship turned more.
Naseer is one of the Princes of Rhanaz. A race challenge with his best friend Brian lands him in several casts and bedridden for months. While Naseer had fully isolated himself from his friends he had become very angry, helpless feeling and completely hopeless, until. Jade (Mariam) at the age of sixteen had her entire world crash down around her. Her parents killed in a house fire, leaving her friends, and moving to a new country, and starting over at a new school as the one percent of the one percent for the poor girl in the school. When she first meets Naseer it’s an accident she needed to pee and accidentally found his room and couldn’t wait. In a moment of surprise to himself Naseer says three words that start the epic love story. “Sit with me” that’s all it took for them to both find someone to bring smiles back into their lives. After losing her parents Jade questioned if she could join them and Naseer questioned why he was still alive after the horrific accident. Jade gave him the biggest gift, Hope. He gave her someone she could drop her shield around and finally feel at peace and things be easy. Unfortunately, darker forces were against them and over the course of high school to college everything would change and change again.
Who are the dark forces that are determined to keep them apart? Can they find a way back to each other? The emotions behind the characters are real and deep. I felt my heart break for Jade at the news of her parents. My heart ached for Naseer when he felt hopeless time and time again as the world and dark forces found every way to stop him from being happy. The moment hope was restored the book ended and I instantly stared into space ready for book two. What secrets will be revealed and will Naseer and Jade finally get there happily ever after? Book two Jade: Chances are available now; I’ll see you there.

The story is good. Jade is realistic in her outlook of her future with Naseer. He being guided by love is less realistic. The trials that keep separating them are in part due to Jade's immaturity, and in part due to his royal blood and the lengths that his father will go to see them apart. It is surprising therefore when she disappears without a trace that he never seems to suspect that his father may have had a hand in it, despite her friends informing him that she seemed somewhat frightened before she disappeared. Also a man with the resources of a royal should have been able to fine her wherever she went if she is alive, which he has been assured she is. The book ends with a cliffhanger. I am invested enough to read part two.
I had a lot of problems reading this book. There are way too many grammatical errors. The author always leaves off "I" when she writes a sentence that should say I am. Many word are misused like using peace instead of piece. The tense is constantly mixed up within a single sentence, regularly blending both past and present. This can be confusing and disrupt the flow. The author/editor has no idea what constructs a proper sentence, and regularly puts in a period at will where it does not belong, usually in the middle of a sentence. When the book started out , there were far less of these errors, but in the last few chapters it seems like there was such a rush to finish the book, that no editing was even attempted. I am frustrated that, even though I intend to read part two, I have already seen by reading the excerpt that these grammatical, editing and word meaning mistakes continue. Since this series has lead characters that do not appear to be US or UK born, I thought that perhaps the absence of I in I am might be something that is common in places like Nigeria. Then I read some of the author's bio and found out that she lives in Illinois. Even if that is not her place of origin, by now she must have heard people say I am many times. So I'm going to have to remain a grammar critic who hopes the author reads her reviews and finds a way to improve the editing of her books.

When loss and grief become the defining elements of one's life, finding hope and the will to live can be an arduous journey. In Jade: Hidden Scars the author skillfully explores the poignant process of adjusting to loss and discovering that life can still offer unexpected connections and moments of solace.

The story centers around Jade and Naseer, who have both faced profound losses and are grappling with grief. Jade is a high school student who tragically loses her parents. Naseer, the next in line to be crowned prince, endures a terrible accident that leaves him a marred figure of his old self.

The story takes a heartwarming turn when Jade and Naseer cross paths. Their meeting is marked by moments of humour, but beneath the surface, they form a connection that holds the promise of healing. Naseer, drowning in dejection, finds in Jade a glimmer of hope that he thought had been extinguished.

Jade and Naseer's endearing nicknames for each other, Gent and Lady are so cute and add a layer of sweetness to their burgeoning relationship.

While the book does start slowly, particularly before the main characters' encounter, it quickly gains momentum once their paths cross. A minor drawback is some repetition in Jade's emotions and inner struggles, particularly concerning her feelings and a desire to be with someone her age. However, this slight repetitiveness did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.

The unconventional pairing of Jade and Naseer, marked by an age gap and disparities in social status, wealth, and power, might not be to everyone's liking. However, it adds depth and complexity to the story, exploring the boundaries that society places on such relationships.

This book ended on a cliffhanger, leaving me highly anticipating the second book because Jade is in for the shock of her life.

This is the first book in the Jade series. And wow what a read. This book has so many elements that I love in a romance. It had a strong alpha male, attraction that is off the charts, 2 Wounded souls desperately trying to heal, there is a bit of a forbidden element as well as Naseer is from a wealthy background and Jade is from the opposite but they work so well together.
This is Jade and Naseers story.
Naseer is a rich and popular alpha male, he has the world at his feet, he could date any woman he wanted and his life was on a upward track that is until a accident left him trapped in a bed. His life was spiraling out of control and he was contemplating not wanting to be here anymore that is until he meets Jade.

Jade is going through a traumatic time at the moment. With the loss of her parents she is struggling to find her way in her new life and new school. Struggling with grief and finding a way to work through it the last thing she wanted or expected was to find love and especially not with someone who is as horrible, moody and self centered as Naseer is.

These two people are just 2 broken souls each dealing with their own traumas and the effects that is having in their life's but what is so beautiful is how much more peace they feel when they are together.
This is a beautiful moving story filled with ups and downs, highs and lows as they both come to terms with their new lives and what it actually means for them. With all the odds stacked against them do they even stand a chance?
I can't wait to see how this series will progress and how the the relationship between Naseer and Jade changes and develops.

Hidden Scars is the first book in the Jade series by A. Akinosho. This is the first instalment in Naseer and Jade’s story- where two damaged souls find a connection that changes both their lives. With a bit of a forbidden element, an age gap, grumpy/sunshine factor, grief, drama, angst, different worlds/opposites attract, family/family complications/meddling, insecurities, jealousy, tension, pain/baggage, darker tones, secrets, and challenges.
This had all the ingredients that I normally look for to drag me into a story and hold me in its grasp- but I just couldn’t find my ‘groove’ with this one. I also found it really hard to connect with the characters, which made it hard to immerse myself in their story, or invest in them and the outcome. I found myself really annoyed and frustrated with them, and myself- a lot. There seemed to be quite a lot of info dumping/repetition and niggly vibes that kept interrupting the flow of the story- continually pulling me out of the storyline.
I have enjoyed Ms. Akinosho’s writing in the past, so maybe I was just having an ‘off’reading session this time around.
The story ends on a cliffhanger, and is set to continue in Book #2- so I am hoping that things will fall into place for me there.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, A. Akinosho!

Sit with me...

Were the three words that changed both of their lives. Jade was the only one to help Naseer out of his funk while he was healing from his near death motorcycle accident. They became Gent and Lady with each other. Jade helped him keep the Grumpy Evil Twin (GET) under control. He helped Jade feel comfortable and accepted after the ill treatment she received when her life was uprooted after the death if her parents. Naseer fell totally in love with her but vowed that he would let her get her education before he'd make her his.

But there are forces that are working to keep them apart. Dangerous forces that are life threatening because Naseer is His Royal Highness Prince Naseer of Rhanza, next in line to be king and Miriam Jadesola Bankhole does not fit the bill for queen, no matter how smart she is. She has been told this countless times by outside interfere and she us constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. This led to a tumultuous relationship but Nasser is holding on tight. His life is not complete without her. When that other shoe drops, Jade has no other choice but to RUN. That breaks Naseer.

I can't wait to see what happens in book two.

This is the first book that I have read by this author (A. Akinosho) and even though there were quite a few typos and grammatical errors, it was good. The immaturity of the main female character (Jade) is due to her youth (teenager) so I understood the frustration on the part of the main male character (Naseer). I am more angry with how the father (Naseer's father) keeps interfering and becomes successful in separating them. Also, the so called "princess" that can't take "no" for an answer that Naseer does not want anything to do with her. Also, it is unreal even though Jade was in her teens, for the princess to slap her in the face and get away with it! The teens of today would surely have hit her back! Just saying! Lol! Also, I am wondering if the author is a fan of the musical artist, Sade Adu. It is funny how "Jade" the main female character's name is similar in pronunciation to the artist, Sade! Plus, the artist's full name is "Helen Folasade Adu" and since Jade's name is Miriam Jade and she is also Nigerian like the artist, the similarity is so uncanny! Very good story and I am anxious for the next book on this couple!

Jade and Naseer were a lot of like but very different. Jade had recently moved to Rhanaz with her aunt and uncle when she became orphaned. Prince Naseer had recently been in a motorcycle accident which left him bedridden and seemed to turn his thought darker than they already were. When Jade ended up in his home she came across him while looking for the bathroom. He hadn't been letting anyone in to visit him, not even his best friends, but something about Jade made him ask her to sit with him. She was able to pull him out of the darkness he was being sucked into and their bond started to become stronger, their friendship grew, and their attraction to one another certainly became romantic. He being of royal blood and she being a commoner, his father has issues with their blossoming relationship. Even though he could see with his very own eyes that Jade was doi g Naseer good, he was plotting a way to get rid of her for good. Although they fought like any normal couple, maybe a bit more due to the age difference, they were determined to be together. I did enjoy this book and if you pick it up I hope you do as well. I did find it slow going at first but once the story picked up and started flowing it was hard to put down. I look forward to seeing what kind of growth the characters have and how their relationship progresses in book two.

Jade: Hidden Scars by A Akinosho is a captivating slow-burn romance between a prince and a grieving teenager. The story follows Jade, who relocates to a new country after losing her parents, and Naseer, a prince recovering from a motorcycle accident. Their chance encounter blossoms into a deep connection, offering solace and hope in their struggles.

The novel excels in its character development. Both Jade and Naseer are well-rounded individuals grappling with loss and self-doubt. The age gap is initially concerning, but the book cleverly navigates it by portraying their bond as a supportive friendship that evolves. Theirs is a "Romeo and Juliet" type of love story, facing disapproval due to their differing backgrounds.

The narrative is engaging, alternating between Jade and Naseer's perspectives, allowing readers to grasp their emotions fully. The writing is full of heart, connecting you with the characters' joys and sorrows. However, the cliffhanger ending is frustrating. As you anticipate a resolution, the story abruptly cuts off, leaving you yearning for the next book.

Jade: Hidden Scars: A Forbidden Age-Gap Romance (Book 1) by A. Akinosho. This is such a good friends to lovers, age gap romance. Its the story of Jade who is grieving the loss of her parents. She has had to give up everything she knows and move to another country. Her Aunt and Uncle are nice enough to let her move in and when they are visiting Prince Naseer's home Jade runs across the Prince accidentally while looking for the bathroom. Prince Naseer has been in an motorcycle accident and is recovering. He has been very depressed and hadn't wanted any visitors but something about Jade makes him want her to visit. They become fast friends and not long after it turns into more. They truly love each other but the Prince's father is not happy because Jade is not royalty. He could see how much good Jade was doing for Naseer but he still wanted her out of the picture so he begins to plan a way to get rid of her for good! Such a good forbidden romance!

This was the first time I’ve read anything by author A. Akinosho for me, and I must say I really enjoyed the story. This story features Jade, a grieving teenager who moves to a new country after losing her parents, and Naseer, a real-live prince who is recovering from a serious motorcycle accident.
When they meet, it blossoms into a deep connection, and they are able to provide solace and hope in their struggle. Although the age gap is a concern, the book gives a smart workaround, portraying their relationship that evolves. The book quickly grabs you, and you can relate between the characters' joys and sorrows.
Lord, the cliffhanger ending though…I want to fight everybody. I was all set up, anticipating a happy ending, when the story abruptly cut off. Now I’m sitting here, anxiously awaiting the next book to find out what happens next.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, and I would recommend the book to others. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is a great book. I really enjoyed it, jades parents both passed in a fire she went to live with her aunt and uncle in a foreign country where she met naseer he was a prince who had a accident and couldn't move jade gave him hope and they both gave each other a reason to carry on however they both started having romantic feelings for each other but naseers father had other ideas, to him jade wasn't good enough and he constantly tried to prove it, naseer could be abit toxic in his love for jade he relied on her probably more than he should. Jade disappeared for college and eventually naseer found her they rekindled but there was constant obstacles they get married but only days later naseers father ruins it and Jade runs pregnant with twins. Naseer is in a spiral Jade is miserable but we will have to read book 2 to find out what happens.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
