FROM EXCITING AUTHOR OF LGBTQIA ROMANCE FICTION S. J. COLES

Book one in the Blood and Bonds series

Jesse Truelove never felt a part of his own family. But can a vampire really give him a new one?

With a criminal record, no steady job and a penchant for kink, Jesse Truelove has spent most of his life feeling like an outsider. He tells himself it doesn't bother him, that he never needed human connections anyway.

Now the Undying Baron, Emory Von Magnusson, a vampire— or, to use the modern term, ‘haemophile' — has reclaimed his ancestral home north of Jesse's hometown, and the human population isn't sure how to react. Jesse knows a thing or two about what it's like to be misjudged, so he keeps an open mind. But when a bungled break-in at Emory's home brings them face-to-face, Jesse finds it's much more than his mind that's stimulated.

However, building a relationship with an undead blood-drinker was never going to be straightforward, especially when that undead blood-drinker reveals he wants a family.

Reader advisory: This book contains blood drinking, violence, murder, dark themes and injury detail.

“Now you’ve disobeyed,” he whispered, “so you will have to wait.” It's worth the wait, believe me. This book edges the reader, while Jesse is made to wait. Obey. Beg. Don't make a sound.

4+ stars

I loved The Devil You Know and I have no idea why I haven't tried more of Coles' books.

Fantastic world-building and interesting take on vampires (referred to as haemophiles) trying to integrate into human society. Coles has a knack for balancing the romantic plot with an interesting enough action/suspense plot that could stand on its own.

Jesse's life is a complete mess. He has money problems, family problems, shady friends, drinks too much, and is an excellent hacker who keeps getting caught for petty crimes. Breaking into Emory Von Magnusson's (the new Baron and haemophile who has moved into his small town) mansion seems like a great idea. Getting caught lands him a job working for the undead Baron, and their connection is off the charts.

The descriptions of Emory's body and his glass-like fingernails struck a balance of humanizing while still keeping an edge of unnatural, especially his voice.

I loved that Jesse was attracted to Emory while still feeling the element of predator and prey. Their first intimate scene may be my favorite. Jesse's getting out of the indoor pool after a late night swim and suddenly Emory is there, looming and creepy. He starts giving Jesse commands, and holy shit when an author can write sex scenes like that with only one person doing the touching and no penetrative sex, I'm always impressed.

Making commands, giving praise, edging, teasing, all while Jesse is forced to stand motionless and silent. Very erotic.

“Look, mate,” he started, but Magnusson inhaled deeply, like he was smelling his skin, and the words dried in his mouth.
“I suggest you call me ‘sir’.”

“Do as you’re told, and you’ll be rewarded,” Magnusson rumbled in his ear. “Disobey and I will be forced to punish you.”

“No sounds, Jesse—or I’ll punish you.”

“You’re testing me. Stay still, Jesse. Stay silent. Obey.”

Then there's the D/s role reversal, which was Emory's idea, and Jesse was hesitant to try.

“I can be made to submit. I could show you how.”

Chaining a haemophile to a wall above the bed so Jesse could be the one in control was another great scene.

Emory is the voice of reason and comforts Jesse through his trauma. Excellent hurt/comfort book with some kink thrown in that felt natural. There are quite a few edging and commanding scenes, and the prepping for the very large vamp cock was well done. Interesting tidbit about haemophile dicks, it doesn't get hard right away even when they feel aroused.

Okay, the book isn't all sex, not by a long shot. There's a ton of human and haemophile politics, dangerous protests that turn into riots, a lot of family drama and trauma from Jesse's side, and there's a strong family aspect. I'm not a big fan of kids in books, but Jesse's nephew was cute and Emory's daughter was a little badass.

There are some heavier topics that Jesse needs to work through. His brother is an asshole and does come around at the end, although I still don't like him. Their mother dying when Jesse was young enough not to have the same memories and attachment and feeling separated by grief from his father and brother was an interesting angle I've never really thought about.

“I felt like I’d come along too late to be part of the family.”

I highly recommend it; it's a great start to a series! Book 3 is out on August 6!

“Two rules,” he murmured as Jesse stood there, aching and hard, his mouth dry and longing to kiss again. “No talking. No using your hands. Break either rule,” Emory said, leaning close and speaking against the hollow in Jesse’s throat, “and you will be punished. Understand? You may answer.”

“Such impatience, liebling,” Emory said as he undid the button on Jesse’s jeans. “Did I not explain we go slow?”

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This was pretty awesome NGL. It was such a unique take on vampires, but not sooooo out there that I couldn't follow yk. I'm new to S.J. Coles but I absolutely loved the writing style, thought the characterizations were well done and all deeply rooted, and OFC setting this in York was a brilliant choice! The deep pull of Jesse had me aching for the tough choices he kept having to make. But wow was Emory ever so alluring that I totally understood why he didn't find it hard to compromise lol! This was really great and I'm very much looking forward to the rest of this series because i low-key can't get over how well SJC's narrative style just worked for me and I definitely want more of all of this!

Jesse and Emory ❤️

4 Stars ⭐️

Wow, this book was so different and unexpected in a good way. This is a whole new take on what you'd expect from a vampire story. It had drama and danger but it also had some really sweet and family vibes going on. Both Mc's were very well written and the story itself unfolded with beauty. I cannot wait to see what's next In this universe. I would most definitely recommend.

A Unique Take on Vampires

This is a unique take on vampires in a very good story. I wasn't sure what to expect at first but I enjoyed it all by the end. I'm looking forward to whatever comes next in this series.

This was a refreshingly different take on vampirism in a contemporary setting. Everything about their relationship felt natural and had a great progression. I’m also SUPER excited for the next one, and I’ll be reading the duet that apparently came before!

Jesse is the only one in his family who doesn’t see vampires as a threat.
Certainly not the handsome Baron Emory Von Magnusson.
Jesse is the only one who can think and feel outside the box, sadly he has a past of going out of line, legally.

Emory wants to hire Jesse for his high IT security skills. It’s a live-in job.
When Jesse accepts he understands soon there’s way more going on.
It seems Emory has a daughter, who’s been taken away from him.
Emory is using Jesse to get things done, legal or illegal, dodgy or not, you’ll have to find out for yourself.
Jesse doesn’t know what to do or feel, and how to deal with it. What he does know are the feelings he has for Emory.

It’s a slow-paced story, I prefer the term vampire over haemophile. It was an entertaining read, enjoyable, with more depth than you’d think of at first sight. The view on vampires was different than most stories. The family problems running through the story, the conversations, and the actions felt truly honest and realistic.
Personally, I couldn’t fully commit to Jesse and Emory’s relationship, I couldn’t feel it, I suppose it’s me.
Overall a widely, well written entertaining story.

I'm trying to tackle and fight myself into a new path in life. In doing so, I've adding more things to my To Do lists and more things to my TBR lists. BUT that also means more ARCs for me! :D Here's S.J. Coles's latest. "Touch in the Night" is the first novel in the new Blood and Bonds series. The first two books have already come out, but the third novel debuts August 6, 2024.

["Jesse Truelove never felt a part of his own family. But can a vampire really give him a new one?

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. Angst, fear, confusion, trepidation, arousal, acceptance, betrayal, lust, love, hate. But it was so freaking good. I mean, honestly. It was about so much, but ultimately, it was about acceptance (of yourself--to others and to yourself) and family. It was unlike any vampire story I've read to date, but I wouldn't mind reading more of S.J.'s things.

I could go on and on about different aspects of this book, but let's just leave you with one two steamy quotes instead. ;)

Quote of the day (though there were a LOT of them in here) (Jesse//Emory): "'Sweet Mary and Joseph.' // 'Not people I'm intimately acquainted with...Though I'm happpy to make you call their names a few more times before this is done.' // 'Christ,' Jesse cursed and blinked blindly at the ceiling. // 'Him, too,' Emory murmured against his skin. 'Maybe his father by the end?'"

QotD Part Two (Jesse//Emory): "'Jesus. God.' // 'I was wondering when God would make an appearance.'"

Trigger Warnings: unsupportive family, anxiety, species-ism, violence, and more.

Jesse has problems. His brother uses withholding time with his sweet nephew as a threat to make Jesse conform to his preconceived notions of good and proper. His "friend" is a user who exploits his poor financial state in order to coerce him into breaking the law so she can get more social media likes. And he doesn't share the bigoted view of York's newest resident, wealthy vampire (haemophile in the modern world) Baron Emory Von Magnusson, that the rest of the community seems to. But despite all this, he keeps moving forward in this life. Sure, there are low points when he wonders why he even bothers to care about others, but he never stops doing it. It's those highs and lows that make him imperfect and lovable. Unfortunately, Jess's constant swearing calls into question whether or not he ever takes into account his current audience or surroundings - such as around children or working in a professional environment.

Emory wants to be liked. He wants to fit in and use his wealth to the benefit of the citizens of York. He wants to be known as a decent being, even if he hasn't been human in centuries. Part of that is to fulfill a private agenda; but part of it is because no one wants to spend ages being hated. He sees the brilliant, resourceful, and talented person Jesse really is under his worn jeans and beyond his criminal record.

The chemistry between Jesse and Emory is explosive yet entirely controlled. Each gives exactly what the other needs. Emory helps Jesse believe he is worth loving, and Jesse brings hope and faith in others back to Emory. Jesse's witty sarcasm is also a wonderful foil to Emory's old world manners. The pacing was quick but not crazy fast. The secondary characters were also fleshed out with backgrounds and rich personalities.

However, there were many places where it felt like the reader was simply dropped into the world without any explanations. There were established couples that felt as if we should know all about them and their stories already, when we have no notion who they are. The reasons why haemophiles are more accepted in some counties than others is never fully covered, either. But perhaps that will come in future volumes. There were also a few spots where circumstances felt a bit contrived purely for plot convenience. But despite these few flaws, the book is well written, the story is engaging, and you find yourself liking even the antagonists of the story. . . a little.

OK, let's start this by saying I have read a lot of vampire romances and yet can not recall another book quite like this one, and for me, that's awesome!!
In this world, vampires (haemophile) are regarded as separate races that are facing the prejudices of being seen as equals. Jesse falls into the world when trying to fix a mistake before it gets out a hand. With that choice, he meets Emory, who will change all his world views. Emory is doing everything he can to make a safe place for his daughter, Dimity, some not so legal, all for the love of this girl. This is there story of what it takes to become a true loving family even if the world around you doesnt like these decisions. It's really a great read of ups and downs that will keep you hooked from the opening all the way to the conclusion.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

This first book in the Blood and Bonds series does an admirable job of throwing readers into the deep end. A lot of lore is sprinkled through the book regarding haemophiles, politics, and personalities — such as Terje Kristiansen and his human lover, Lord Aviemore, who are mentioned but never explained — and the clear delineation between how very not-human the haemophiles are. It beautifully sets up future books without pulling the focus away from the main couple in this one.

I loved the subtle world building, the relationships between Jesse and his brother, Jesse and his co-workers, and yes, Jesse and Emory. (I also appreciate that they’re both switches, at least in bed). No one is painted as a true villain, and even those who work to keep Emory apart from his daughter are treated like people and not simply plot devices. This is a good entry into a new series, and I’m looking forward to book two!

First, this is a new author for me but I was so glad that I was able to start reading this series. This is book 1 in the series.

Jesse hasn't had the best going in his life and is pretty much has a criminal past. The only family he has left is his brother, nephew and sister-in-law. He spends as much time as he can with his nephew Olly. He feels like he is an outsider and that he never does anything right. To earn some cash he decides to do what his friend asked him to do and when they are breaking in, he regrets ever agreeing to it. When he lands up in jail, he is shocked that he was released. He now must face the Baron who is Emory Von Magnusson, the vampire or haemophile which doesn't bother him but he isn't sure what he is supposed to do now.

Emory has lived a long life and is trying to change how humans look/act towards his kind. He wants everyone to be able to coexist with each other. He decides that he is going to move back to his home town and stay there. It's been in his family for a very long time. He remembers Jesse when he saw him the night of the Christmas Lights down at the Christmas Market. When he finds out who broke into his house, he wants Jesse to meet with him. Emory needs to know some things and then offers Jesse a job. The one stipulation is that he moves into his place. There is more that Emory needs from him but for now he just needs to get Jesse in his home.

These two have to learn a lot about each other and also trust in one another. All the emotions that you will feel through this book for both characters, proves how much you connect with them. You can't help but get so involved into their story. This story also feels like it's more about accepting everyone in the world how they are and not to be ashamed of who you are. They will touch your heart.

The author did such an amazing job on the plot, keeping you hooked, having your emotions everyone but also for writing the amazing story.

Wow this was absolutely brilliant! Touch in the Night was my first book by S.J. Coles. This book offers a refreshingly different take on vampirism in a contemporary setting. I'm incredibly excited for the next installment and will definitely read the duet that preceded it!

The book is set in contemporary York, UK, and follows Jesse, a human who never fit in with his family, and Emory, a haemophile fighting against the system. Their story begins at a Christmas Lights ceremony and takes off when Jesse is caught breaking into Emory's home. Jesse is the only member of his family who doesn't view vampires as a threat, especially not the handsome Baron Emory Von Magnusson. Unlike his family, Jesse can think outside the box, but he has a history of legal troubles.

Emory hires Jesse for his exceptional IT security skills in a live-in position. Soon after accepting the job, Jesse realises there's much more going on. Emory has a daughter who has been taken from him, and he is using Jesse to accomplish various tasks, legal or not. Jesse is conflicted about his role but is clear about his growing feelings for Emory.

This entertaining and enjoyable read had more depth than I initially expected. The unique perspective on vampires, or haemophilies, added to its appeal. The story was engrossing, with a well-developed contemporary setting and deep, evolving relationships. Emory and Jesse's connection, along with Jesse's interactions with other characters like Dimity and Ant, added layers of richness. The steaminess was balanced by real, honest emotions that developed over time.

The book is well-paced, with excellent world-building and character development. The ending was superb, evoking strong emotions. This fantastic book is highly recommended, and I eagerly await the next installment in the Blood and Bonds series.

Jesse is the black sheep - the screwup
His decisions aren't the brightest but he's not a bad guy
His life is about to change when his bff, and IMO the driver of his trouble bus, Trixy talks him into helping her get her next great story
Let's just say things did not go as planned - or maybe they did?

Emory is fighting his own battles. Besides the bigotry against his race, he has another issue that is truly the heart of why he has returned home
Turns out Emory needs Jesse to accomplish this
I am not giving spoilers here - the way the author revealed this was so perfect.

I was so happy to be back in this universe!
I was first introduced to the haemophiles in Blood Winter duet-
Alec's story
Don't worry you do not need to read it first as this is a standalone, but I can guarantee you'll want to after finishing Jesse and Emory's tale

This story had me hooked from beginning to end dragging me through a gauntlet of emotions
Watching Jesse question his worth. His feelings toward Emory.
Emory's battle to be seen as more than just a monster.
This served up a little bit of everything
Then when you add in the insane chemistry between these two that was so palpable it bled off the pages - Not just the smexy (which was off the rails), but the way they fit together so seamlessly filling in all those empty spaces
I laughed, blushed, shed those silent tears and so much more

There are also a couple of secondary storylines that run in the background simultaneously that IMO just add to the overall enjoyment of Touch in the Night

I do wish we had the chance to see some of the events from Emory's perspective, though that may just be me being greedy

TOUCH IN THE NIGHT is the first book in the Blood and Bonds series, set in contemporary York, UK, but with haemophilies instead of vampires. Jesse is a human who never felt as though he fitted in with his family, and Emory is a haemophile who is fighting the system. These two see each other first at a Christmas Lights ceremony, before Jesse gets caught breaking into Emory's home. Then the fun really starts...

I was thoroughly engrossed with this story - everything about it from the contemporary setting, to Emory and Jesse's relationship, to Dimity's old-soul wisdom, all of it. I only put it down because I literally couldn't focus on the words any longer, and immediately picked it up the following morning.

There is steam, no doubt, but that's not all there is. You have real, honest, and deep feelings that grow with time - between Emory and Jesse, Jesse and Dimity, Jesse and Ant - do you see what I'm getting at? There is something for everyone and it is raw and real (even though it's not. I know it's fiction!) Well-paced and with plenty of world- as well as character-building, this was an easy book to read.

The ending was superb and had my eyes leaking. This was a fantastic book that I won't hesitate to HIGHLY RECOMMEND and I can't wait to read further in this series. Absolutely brilliant!

I'm on the fence with this book. I liked it but then again, I was thrown for a loop because it seemed like everything changed towards the end pretty quickly and that threw me off a bit. The smexy times between Emory and Jesse were great. I liked watching their relationship build and grow. This was a different take on vampires than usual paranormal vampire books are but that wasn't a bad thing. This is the first book I've read by this author, and I'm interested to see what happens in this next book.

Jesse is broke as well as broken. Breaking into a haemophiles (vampire) home for a payday should of went a lot better. But then Jesse’s luck always sucked (and not necessarily in a good way). Meeting Emery was unexpected and frightening (even though Jesse wasn’t scared).

Jesse was an interesting character. No self esteem to speak of but exceptionally competent in his chosen field. The needs he had making him feel less, but he knew what he needed from a partner, he’d just never received it. Emery didn’t give Jesse what he thought he needed, he gave him so much more. Emery was very laid back. He also knew what he wanted and he got exactly that with Jesse. I loved their dynamic.

The mythos of vampires came into play here more so than any other vampire book I’ve read recently. I’ve always thought vampires not being able to go into daylight restricted the depth of the storytelling but this book was a complete story. I thought the author created compelling characters who played well with the restrictions placed on them.

I wouldn’t of thought children would have such an impact on a vampire story but Dimity and Oliver were invaluable as how the story ultimately played out.

The romance was slow paced and seemed almost glacial at times but I did enjoy it. Nice story, excited for the next book.

Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is what I love most about reviewing: finding new to me authors and discovering they have an extensive back list of books you somehow missed!

Cos I loved this take on vampires, bar one thing, but I'll come back to that. And really, it's just me being greedy!

Jesse breaks into the Undying Baron's property and then, somehow, lands a job working for him! Emory is quite different from the image that is being bandied about, and Jesse falls fast and hard. But Emory wants Jesse to do this one thing. I'm not gonna say what, for spoilers, though!

Emory is a vampire, or as they are called in this world, haemophile. The vampires in this world are different to any other I've come across and I loved that. It's quite hard, I think, to do that these days.

Jesse has some emotional baggage and that gets worked out here. It's quite hard to be so vague, but I really enjyed thai and I want you to, as well!

I loved the way the story unfolded, it flowed wonderfully. There were smexy times, so hawt! There was danger, and drama and there is a full blown happy ever after!

So, my niggle? ONLY Jesse has a say here and there were many, MANY key points along the way, that I wanted to hear from Emory. And I don't get him! I told you, me being greedy. But this is my review about what I liked and didn't and I didn't get Emory when I wanted him.

THAT said, I will absolutely read future books in this series, cos at the back of this one, is a snippet from the next book and I did NOT see that one coming!! Can't wait!

Touch in the Night is kind of like a gay vampire Beauty and the Beast: down-on-his-luck Jesse breaks into haemophile Emory’s home, is caught, and ends up moving in (there’s even a gorgeous library!). With that said, Emory and Jesse’s story is not your typical vampire book at all. It’s a love story set within a nuanced, dynamic plot that touches on changing societal values, acceptance and equal rights, family, prejudice and forgiveness.

I picked this book up mainly for the cover (it’s beautiful!) and some vague idea that it was about vampires. Let me tell you it’s so much MORE than that. Every time I thought I understood the story or what was going to happen next I was surprised.

SJ Coles is a new author for me and I enjoyed the book a lot. I wished Emory had been willing to be a bit more naughty (no spoilers but certain haemophile behaviours are illegal in this world) and hope to see that in future books in the series. Speaking of… I was not expecting the next pairing at all and I’m super excited for it!

I am always looking for new vampire books to read, and Touch in the Night had me instantly curious. It also had me instantly hooked. From the very first page, I was sucked into the story. To the point where I found myself happily devouring it in a single sitting as I was eager to see how everything played out.

Touch in the Night was a lighter read than I had anticipated, yet it was a story that had me invested throughout. It gave a bit of a twist on the classic vampire stories, which ensured I was eagerly devouring it for more details. With great characters and a storyline that kept me invested, the story had me unable to put it down. In fact, I finished the story with a desperation for the next in the series and specific characters I wish to see more of. A part of me worries the characters I am most invested in will not get their story told as they were together by the end of this book, yet I am curious about whatever comes next in the world. Although this was a little too quick and easy for my usual tastes, it had me hooked enough that I cannot wait to get my hands on more.

All in all, this was a great quick read that has ensured I’ll be diving into the next in the series.

As someone who is always on the lookout for new vampire fiction, Touch in the Night piqued my interest right away. It also got me instantly hooked. From the very first page, I was hooked into the plot. So much so that I cheerfully finished it in one sitting because I couldn't wait to find out what happened.
Touch in the Night was a much lighter read than I was expecting, yet it still managed to keep my interest throughout. It added a new spin on the standard vampire tales, and I devoured it to find out more. The story's compelling characters and plot made it impossible for me to put it down. After finishing the book, I was left wanting more of certain characters and the series as a whole. I'm intrigued about what happens in the universe, but I'm worried that the people I care about the most won't get their narrative recounted the way they were together by the conclusion of the book. This was a touch too simplistic and straightforward for my liking, but it still managed to hook me completely. I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

This was a different vampire story than I’m used to. It was almost like going back to the classics, vampires that can’t come out during the sunny times. In this universe, the world knows about vampires or in this case, haemophhiles. In England, people for the most part are still terrified of these ethereal beings. Jesse Truelove isn’t though, he seems them as just people that are like a different race. He has a good heart. He adores his nephew Oliver, and takes him to the Christmas light display, where Emory, the undying baron, is the sponsor this year. The citizens are nervous and on edge. From there, Jesse and Emory embark on a journey together. They have a lot of passion and chemistry between them. They are both good men, with good hearts. Their love for them families and the people around them shine through. At times this story moved slowly, it isn’t one packed full of adventure. It’s a love story and a story about family and acceptance. It was very well written and very good. I enjoyed the story very much.

✨ Book Review ✨

✨ "Touch In The Night" by S J Coles
✨ Series: "Blood and Bonds", Book 1

✨ Overall: 🌟🌟🌟

✨ Have you ever been reading a book, and then at some point an event happens and then you feel like you're reading a completely different book? That's how I felt with this.

✨ I usually love the ARCs I receive through #GRR, but I guess you can't win them all.

✨ I did enjoy Jesse and Emory's story. A jaded ex-con and a haemophile, Emory hires Jesse to amp up his security after Jesse attempts to break into his house. The way Emory slowly breaks Jesse's walls down and lets him know he is allowed to be loved was a wonderful read. I just wish that some of the other storylines had been saved for a different book, if that makes sense? No spoilers, but it could have been two separate books.

✨ Pick up if you love: vampires, slight kink, begging, found family, and Christmas

Jesse and Emory’s story has shades of some familiar fairy tales (breaking and entering, ending up living at the palatial estate of a “monster” who isn’t the monster he’s made out to be) as well as some interesting reworking of common vampire tropes. Things work a bit differently for “haemophiles” in this world, and it makes for a compelling read. There’s the opportunity here for some nice growth and evolution for Jesse, who has a bit of baggage of his own (Emory is a bit more of a cipher, but he’s also interesting nonetheless), and some solid relationship building as well. All in all, the world building, character development, and relationship dynamics are nicely drawn here, and it adds up to an easy-to-get-immersed-in narrative experience.

*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Wow, talk about villagers at the gate! This story was an unexpected and lovely surprise.
Jesse was drawn to Emory from the beginning. Emory could have caused him so much trouble. The job offer came out of the blue and was most welcome.
Jesse is just himself, with no apologies. His brother was a bit of a jerk, but looking after your child is good reason for it. Emory is also just himself. He has his money and power, although he tries to be more subtle with the latter. The way the two almost dance around each other is great to watch.
Emory does seem quite manipulative through most of the book, which I didn’t care for very much. Then again, though, he’s several hundred years old and is fighting a custody battle.
Well worth the read!

I love finding new authors, and I can't recall a book I enjoyed from a new author like this one. In this book, vampires are a distinct race grappling with the burden of prejudice in their quest for equality.

Jesse stumbles into this world to rectify a mistake before it spirals out of control. In making that choice, he crosses paths with Emory, who reshapes his perspective. Emory is determined to create a secure environment for his daughter, even if it involves less-than-legal activities driven by his love for this child.

This is their tale of what it means to forge a genuine and loving family, even in a world that frowns upon such choices. It's a riveting narrative filled with highs and lows that will keep you engrossed from beginning to end.

A story in a world in which vampires are known about

S. J. Coles has imagined an earth where humans have found out that vampires are real and are now called haemophiles. I found myself feeling very emotional while reading this book which has two very wounded men as it’s focus, even though the wounds they have are very different. Coles really brings out all the good and bad about a lot of things such as relationships, family, humanity, k1nk and more. The relationship between Jesse and Emory starts off hot and heavy but Coles throws a lot of wrenches into the works. Ultimately she brings up issues like what it means to be a parent or a partner but without bogging down her story telling. I will definitely be looking at reading more of her tales

A new to me author to me. I was super pumped about the premise genius hacker meets handsome Hemophile (vampire) that needs his skills. Jesse is a bit down in his luck, only spending time with his nephew and avoiding his older brother. In-between jobs and associates suggests a quick b and e job. Accepting puts him in the path of Emory, the Hemophile. Emory hires Jesse for a special job.

I enjoyed Jesse's extreme emotions vs Emory's calm. I felt the pace of the relationship was steady and the spice was hot.  The only issue I had with this book was the use of the word Hemophile. We know. Used constantly. We get it. IMO Emory would have been fine. I received an arc from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my review.

A vampire MM with quite a good plot Emory has moved back to his ancestral home centuries after leaving. As usual not everyone has taken to him being there although Jesse Truelove doesn’t quite believe everything he has heard about the dangerous haemophile. When his friend asks him to break into Oswald House he goes along with it but they end up getting caught however Jesse doesn’t expect to be bailed out and his shocked when he finds out who it was . This was my first book from this author and I quite enjoyed it the plot was different than most vampire books I’ve read . I can’t give five stars as I don’t understand why some words were spelt the American way when the author is British and it was set in the UK.

I absolutely could not put this book down! It will hook you from the 1st page. Emory is a Haemophile aka vampire that is just looking to have a family and move on from the past. Jesse is a human that can’t seem to outrun his past and has low self esteem. These two are truly what the other needs and it is an amazing roller coaster ride of discovery. This is so much more than a vampire love story. It’s a story of family, love and acceptance. Well written, yummy steamy times with a great HEA! Looking forward to the next book ; super surprised to see the next main characters! I received this book from GRR and these are my honest opinions

A break in that is foiled could have been a problem for Jesse but it turns out to be something of a breakthrough. He is caught by the homeowner, Emory, a vampire who happens to have returned to his ancestral home. They are each men who are dealing with a community that does not treat them with care. Jesse has made mistakes, he is an ex-con and he is judged for his past. The community also frowns on vampires. Together in the midst of the prejudices they face they come together to create a family. Emory has a daughter as well. This was an interesting take on the vampire storyline.
I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
