Modern-day Bridgerton meets Pretty Woman in this steamy romcom novella.
The Earl of Lansbury’s mother thinks it’s high time he was married. But playboy Edward is in no rush to tie himself to one woman, not even when one conveniently falls at his feet during a bridal photoshoot at his country seat, Lansbury Hall.
However, the Grace Kelly lookalike—complete with wedding dress—gives him ideas. Firstly: can he persuade her to act as his girlfriend and stop his mother’s nagging? And secondly: can he persuade her into his bed...?
But aspiring actress Natalie McClaire has good reason to be wary of men like Edward. Even if his offer, and the man himself, become increasingly hard to resist…
Rachel Rowan’s Entitled Love novellas weave the stately homes and witty banter of regency romance into contemporary steamy romcoms.
Rachel Rowan lives in England, with her husband, children, rescue cat, and an embarrassing amount of undone housework. She writes smart, steamy romcoms with lots of heat, humour, heart, and all the things she loves, such as:
Okay so I can't gush about this book enough. Natalie is pure sass, and Edward is ALL swoon. I can't even remember the last time the banter in a book has had me cackling out loud on public transport. But seriously, it's so witty and charming and sweet. It got me so hard in the feels. Their chemistry is off the charts and by the end of the novella I was just aching for them.
Do yourself a favour and read it. Now. And set aside some time because if you're like me, you won't be able to put it down and will read it in one sitting!!
Wow! Modern day pride and prejudice. Love this. I genuinely got hooked on Rachel's writing style and her witty narration. If you love Bridgerton, check out this modern twist.
Modern-day royalty. Witty. Steamy. "Uncommon", the first instalment in Rachel Rowan's "Entitled Love Novellas", is hands-down one of the funniest, sweetest novellas I have read in a long time. I was hooked from the first page and loved how the protagonists, Natalie and Edward, met in a rather unfortunate manner.
“Look, I feel bad about the door. I want to help.” “The door?” She stopped and pointed at her head, at the enormous lump. “You did this?” “Well... I opened the door. You walked into it. Let’s call it a joint endeavour.”
Edward Ashley, the Ninth Earl of Lansbury, knows what he wants and will do anything to get it. Too bad that Natalie, an actress who's not so easily impressed by Edward's charms, money and status, won't give in immediately. I adored the back-and-forth between them and how quickly Edward grew to like her. She made him work for it - and boy, the sexual tension between these two was thick enough you'd be able to cut it with a butter knife.
The steam and dirty talk had me fanning myself towards the end. To quote Natalie, Edward Ashley is a bit of a mouthful, and good heavens is that mouth sinful as hell.
The plot twist took me by surprise in the best way possible; given that I'm an avid reader of romance books, it's easy to anticipate the ending, but I didn't see this one coming. Rachel, you've done an amazing job and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!! Keep doing what you're doing!
A few mistakes here and there, like one moment he was on his feet, walking towards her, and a few moments later, he has standing up from the couch? What, how? Things like this just stop my focus on the scene instantly 😂.
I loveeee the fact that the book is placed in Looondon Baby 😂.
I'll continue at least with the next book, curious about his sister and his best friend. Of course they will probably end up together and I want to read their story. 🤭
In trying to read one new author each month, Rachel Rowan’s short story entitled Uncommon: A Steamy Fake-Dating Romcom novella (part of the Entitled Love series) caught my attention. Sometimes these authors stick with me and sometimes they don’t. This one will stay because the plot line was very good, and the characters were likeable. They make readers want to know how their lives progress. Edward Ashley, Ninth Earl of Lansbury, is a playboy, of course, with too much money, too much excess, and too many people telling him yes to his every whim. However, he meets Natalie (Banberry, not her real name, but that’s part of the story) McClaire, an aspiring actress/model whose mother has been burned by the aristocracy. Natalie learned early how to care for herself, and she’s not going to let Edward with his rakish lifestyle take advantage of her, unless it is on her own terms. Edward falls hard for Natalie, not because she’s the one who tells him no, but because he finally meets someone who makes him laugh and enjoy life rather than perpetuate his bored lifestyle. Without realizing that he is falling, Edward offers the penniless Natalie large quantities of money hoping she will be another female who falls into his bed. While the money is useful and appreciated, Natalie doesn’t fall in the way that he wants. With her natural sassy charm and goodness, she teaches him humility and caring for others. I would have liked for the plotline to be longer or, at least, have an epilogue to let readers know how the characters were getting along later in life. Maybe they will crop up again in book 2 of the series. Let’s hope so. Natalie doesn’t tolerate fools well. She’s such an interesting person.
Hhmmmm, if I was to start off this review by saying what a well written book, would it put you off? If so ignore that sentence. What a wonderful book, how's that? I've not read anything by this author before and you never know what to expect with a new writer. I love the thrill of finding a new author that you just instantly click with their style of writing. This was one of those occasions. Rachel has a wonderful way with words and writes in a style that made reading this book so easy and yet wanting me to devour more. I loved the story and our two lead characters but was also intrigued by a secondary character called 'the count'. A wonderful enemies to lovers tale with some great twists along the way. I laughed at some points and had my breath stolen from me at other points especially during the well written sex scenes. I suppose I should put in the warning that this book is really spicy in places so maybe not one to give to your aunt for Christmas. (On the other hand it may just make her day!) A really wonderful short book and well worth the read. Give it a go, what have you got to lose? I was given a copy of this book by voracious readers only for an honest review. I always give an honest review.
I love a good Romantic Comedy. Add in fake dating and I'm jumping in head first. Uncommon was a quick read that went to the top of my TBR list.
Edward is the Ninth Earl of Lansbury. He is a every bit a pompous playboy who is used to getting everything he wants and women falling all over him. Natalie is an aspiring model and actress trying her best to make ends meet. They quite literally bump into each other when Edward knocks her out when opening a door in an attempt to flee from a conversation about marriage with his mother. Natalie is a Grace Kelly lookalike and Edward is immediately attracted to her. After being attended to by a doctor, Natalie realizes that her modeling gig was cancelled and she was left behind by the crew who also took her clothes. Taking advantage of the situation, Edward offers to take Natalie back to his cottage for a change of clothes, hoping that he will be able to charm her into his bed. Unfortunately for Edward, Natalie is sassy and mostly unaffected from his one-liners and attempted charm. A fake-dating proposal comes up as Edward plots to upset his mother by asking Natalie to accompany him to a party for a large sum of money, more than Natalie makes in a year. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Natalie agrees to attend. The more time Edward spends with Natalie, who has a sharp tongue and keeps Edward on his toes, the more Edward seems to develop feelings for her.
I would love to hear more about these two and look forward to the other books in this series.
Thank you to Voracious Readers Only and Rachel Rowan for an e-copy for honest review. This was such a fantastic novella. 5 out of 5 stars.
“Forget angsty, skinny boys. Those forearms are my new type.”

Being such a short read, this story still had me gasping, smiling, and intrigued. Both of the main characters had something either to root for or against. Both for equally great reasons.
Why are there still titles in this world? Queen, Earl, Marquess, and Duke. Is that just a way for the rich to stay separated from everyone? Most of the rich already feel superior to anyone not. Giving them a title almost lets them have a pass at being pompous fools.
Take Edward’s mother for example. The way she spoke about Natalie, and to for that matter, is just atrocious. She needs a good dose of reality and an equally good slap.
The way Natalie used her acting background to adjust at the party was smart of her. She blended in and everyone was fooled. Good for her. Edward would have been stupid to not recognize her as special.
The way Edward thought he could buy Natalie was cringe worthy. Yes, it was for the story. He was just so nonchalant about it. As if this was normal or “just business” for him. Unfortunately there are probably too many in his life that have allowed him to do this humiliating transaction that he doesn’t understand how wrong it is.
This is a novella, and my rating is adjusted as such.
This was a very quick and lovely read. Who can resist a playboy who might be falling in love? And who doesn’t enjoy a heroine who is witty with a fast tongue?
Natalie, an actress with the looks of Grace Kelly, runs into Edward, one of England’s most eligible bachelors. Actually, he runs a door into her and knocks her out cold. She’s wary of him. And he wants her. But does he want more than just one night? How long can Natalie hold out?
A great quick read that made me laugh out loud. I can’t wait to read about Count (Leo) and Pea (Peony).
I thoroughly enjoyed Rachel Rowan’s debut! I love a good romcom, but my heart lies with historical romance, so this story was a perfect fit for me. I was impressed at how Rachel was able to infuse so many great elements of historical romance (the country house party, cross class romance, secret heirs) into a contemporary setting. As such, the story felt classic and familiar, but also fresh and modern at the same time. The banter between Natalie and Edward was fantastic—their dynamic was witty and sexy and utterly delightful. I’m excited to read The Count and Pea’s story!
This is the first novella in the Entitled Love series, of which I've previously read an e-ARC of book two. The cover is absolutely lovely, and it hooked me. The blurb details what the cover promises. There are a lot of dreamy sentences, like the idea of being drunk on someone's company. The banter and questionable character of the characters make them likeable. Reading it felt like eating a cup of my favourite ice cream: short, yet enjoyable, and perfect in every spoonful. The author has done a good job with this one.
What a wonderful book! Pretty Woman mixed with period romance mixed with something truly unique. It was a perfect way to spend the morning curled up with a cup of coffee. Nat had that perfect amount of sass and vulnerability, and Edward smart, arrogant, and perfectly insecure. Detailed enough to paint a picture, but not so restrictive that I didn't get to let my imagination have a chance to play. I can't wait for the rest of the series!
I want an Edward!!! I started giggling on the first page and never stopped. Edward might be the most charming, hilarious, perfect rom-com hero ever. His fall (climb?) from rake to romantic was so believable and well-written and Nat was a lovely, witty foil to his charm. I was rooting for them both from the very start and couldn’t look away until I finished it. Outstanding effort from a debut author who’s future books will definitely be on my TBR!!!
I really enjoyed reading Uncommon by Rachel Rowan. This was a fun story with lots of sassy banter layered into roleplay foreplay and sprinkled with hints of true romance between the two main characters. The anticipation of watching a mismatched couple stumble through a night of fake dating to arrive at an unsuspected ending did not disappoint!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This Novella is everything, I live good romcom and Rachel delivered. Rachel got me hooked with her writing style and the banter was so good. Can't wait for the next one.
The way Rachel writes, you really feel like you are living the story with characters!!!
Edward and Natalie were clearly drawn to each other, even if Natalie was just "working". She needed the money....I think I'd take that job for a few days too, to be honest.
The way their chemistry grew, you really felt like you were questioning it yourself. Was this just an act, or was it real feelings.
Really well written, I really enjoyed it. And that twist at the end, brilliant.
Now I need book 2!
I received an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Edward, a 21st century Earl, has always been distant with emotions and used to getting everything he wants by use his money. Natalie, an aspiring actor, despise rich royals man who thinks they can get everything they wanted but is struggling to make a living. When they accidentally meet in the Earl's family mansion, they can't help but felt attraction towards each other. But no matter what he tried, she won't even budge... until she agrees to be his fake date. What would happen to them?
This is my first book from Rachel Rowan, and I'm in love with the writing. Though, it's a quick paced story, the plot (and twists?) are refreshing and leaves me wanting for more! This book brings a modern/21st century royals love stories. It has charming characters quirk. I love how sass, strong , and charming Natalie is and how cluelessly and helplessly in love Edward is. They have a great banter, which I enjoy.
This has been a funny and swoony quick read for me. I feel so invested in the characters and for the upcoming next book in the series, so I can't really wait to read the whole upcoming series! Totally worth and recommended for those who loves Pride and Prejudice/The Bridgertons in modern settings.
I receive an ARC copy from the author for free in exchange for an honest review.
I was really happy to get to read this one. A quick read but full of sass and spice. Edward was the perfect mix of sarcastic and brooding, while Nat was his perfect, fiery match. Found myself rooting for them from the beginning and pulling for them all the way through. Fast-paced and quick-witted, I can’t recommend this book enough!
- 3.5 stars rounded to 3 - this kinda reminded me of a poor version of Noelle Adams. Simply written, but still interesting. The insta-love was real… he’d spent time with her all of what, two or three times before he said he loved her? The reason I can’t rate this any higher is because there was soooo little dialogue. Their first real date at the restaurant… we were just told she felt drunk and happy on how well it had gone, but we got zero dialogue. The spice would’ve been quite good if the dirty talk wasn’t so… plain? Like just so standard and simple, nothing super exciting. - character wise.. I did not love how gross and slightly creepy Edward was at the beginning asking her to change in front of him and drop her dress for money - sadly I’m not sure if I’ll read this author again. Maybe I’ll give it one more chance, but idk - I will say that this was a pretty neat depiction of the modern day peerage system. I actually think this is the first one I’ve read about modern peerage. It also really served its purpose, which was to be a palate cleanser between two fantasy epic length novels. ❌ feels

A quick reading novella by a new to me author, Uncommon is the first book in the Entitled Love series and I look forward to reading more. The story was fast-paced and had a lot of details woven throughout regarding the attraction of Edward, a part of the ton, and Natalie, a commoner who struggles to pay rent, lives in a poor section of London and is trying to make it as an actress. When their paths cross, much to the chagrin of his mother, things heat up quickly.
There are lots of steamy moments as we get to know some of the key players in both of their lives. There are twists and turns to the story along with a few laugh out loud moments. She's a quick study when Edward wants her to be his fake girlfriend at his cousin's party and he's surprised when he wants her around for other reasons. There is some closure and a preview of the next book in the series. The cover on Goodreads doesn't do it justice. I much prefer the cover on Amazon which is also on my Kindle.
This was the first book I have read by this author, and what a lovely book it was. I loved Edward, rich, entitled a real ladies man but you could tell from the start that underneath all of that there was a sweet, vulnerable man waiting to come out. Natalie was a hard working girl with little money and struggling to break into the acting world. I loved their journey together, I also loved that there were no protracted separations and angst. It still had all the feels and emotions and the all important HEA. Well done Rachel, looking forward to the next story ❤️
This one was a bit short, though sometimes quite funny, enemies to lovers kind of trope, I would have loved to have better developed characters in both Edward and Natalie, and find out more about Natalie throughout the book. It did make sense how it ended, and all that, but would have loved the whole mother-in-law situation unfold a bit mkre, etc :)
“Five hundred pounds, if you let me watch you undress.” "How much? How much to touch you?” “Forty, fifty, name your price. How much to fuck you?” "She’d undressed for his money. He knew that. He liked that. And yet, somehow, she had been in control."
I really enjoyed this. I felt all the emotions: I was giggling, blushing, tearing up. I really liked how witty and funny the Nat was, she constantly kept Edward on his toes and I love that in books. This was such a fun read with all the Bridgerton and Austen vibes with a modern twist. I will most definitely be reading the rest of the series!
If you love Bridgerton, check out this modern twist. The plot line was very good, and the characters were likeable. They make readers want to know how their lives progress. A wonderful enemies to lovers tale with some great twists along the way.
Natalie and Edward have an interesting meet cute and by interesting I mean Edward knocks her unconscious with door by accident. Things pretty much progress from there, Edward is a playboy used to getting what he wants from women, but Natalie isn’t his usually type of woman; she doesn’t swoon at his looks or title.
I did like the progress of this short novella and it was cute watching Edward fall for Natalie and not know what was happening to him.
It did get a bit odd towards the end, but the issue I had what the ending, it was just so abrupt. I think another chapter or epilogue would have really finish this novella off nicely.
I mean Edward never actually fixes his issues with his mother, but it would have been to nice to see Natalie and Edward as a couple.
