The orcs of the Monktona Wood were promised long ago they would be gifted with fated mates or miresas as the orcs have called them. Their patience has run short as they scour the lands of Bergarian many giving up, including their leader.Thorn has long lost hope of finding his miresa. He now concentrates on his clan, tribe, and the protection of the elders as they grow weak since their own miresas have long passed. Once he sends out most of his tribe for another hunt of their fated miresas, he returns to his home to hear the faint cries of a female for help. When he reaches her, she's dead asleep by the dart implanted in her neck to capture the ogres that threaten the territory. He's stunned when he holds her in her arms and feels the fire dance across his skin. Emotion he has never felt threatens to choke him alive and an unbearable need to protect this female consumes him.He lets out a deafening roar, one of both triumph and worry. Now he has a sick female to care for, but now he also has his miresa. The first orc to claim a female--and a human at that. How would he claim a female that was so small compared to him he wasn't sure, but he did know one thing.Thorn would never let her go.
I never thought I’d like an orc that threw temper tantrums, but here we are. Thorn took possessive to a new level, bringing the whole “look at her and die” attitude with him. He was dedicated to Ellie and dealt with a lot of insecurity about his appearance and home. Ellie was carrying a truckload of trauma from her upbringing and toxic marriage, but warmed up to Thorn pretty quickly. But really, who wouldn’t warm up to someone who waits on them hand and foot when they’re hurt? The world building was interesting as well.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: kidnapping, accidental poisoning, infertility, depression, grief, death, death of parent, violence, gore, dismemberment, drinking, MMC touches FMC everywhere while she’s unconscious and when she’s immobilized and unable to verbally consent (dubcon), threat of SA
Fated mates, a giant possessive alpha hole, and a no nonsense human finding herself in a world of monsters.
The story follows an Orc, Thorn, who finds himself pining for his fated mate, the one the moon goddess promised the orcs for their cooperation in the war with demons.
Ellie finds herself waking in a field in a new world after drinking her troubles away in a New Orleans dive bar. Her ex husband knocked up a mistress after she finds herself unable to concieve, and her arranged marriage comes to a very abrupt end, hence her nursing flaming orc shots one minute, and being chased by a giant ogre the next.
She gets free with the help of some pixies and winds up in Thorns Ogre trap, topped off with a large dose of sleepy drugs. Thorn nurses her back to health and the attraction between the two grows. Ellie has never been cared for, between her aristocratic absentee parents and a loveless arranged marriage, she’s never felt the tender touches and reverence Thorn provides.
Thorn has always given into his orc nature, never questioning much and taking his anger out in the traditional way, but Ellie makes him think and question as his feelings grow beyond his comprehension. Orcs are physical beings, and expressing himself through words isn’t on the top of his list of charming attributes.
Add in a family of orcs ready to help the new couple, outsiders rooting for the two, and a very grumpy ogre set on stealing the little human back, adventure ensues.
The attraction grows, the romance blossoms, and the two find themselves learning so much while advancing their commitment to the other.
Add in a healthy dose or pining and spice and you’ve got this book.
As much as I enjoyed the journey, I felt oddly removed or detached. The spice was good, but it didn’t hit me like others have.
If you enjoy a possessive, she’s mine, alpha hole, you will adore Thorn! It is an enjoyable read with world building and plot in addition to the smut :)
DNF'ing at chapter 34, 307 pages in 65%. I wanted to finish for the sake of counting the book and since I got so many pages in but I just can't.
It's repetitive and could've used more editing and definitely feels too long for what it is. This is just my opinion and I feel I ga e it enough time and I'm just bored.
This was my first ever orc romance book and I loved it so much!! I loved Ellie and Thorn. Who doesn’t love a possessive male that is obsessed with them?! Ellie diving head first into this crazy new life and love was so amazing and I was so giddy for her! Thorn is the sweetest orc around and I love how much he cares and wants to be there for Ellie. The story progressed beautifully and I had to keep reading to make sure Thorn claimed her and that the ogre got what was coming to him. I can’t wait to read other characters stories!
Fated mates Orc and human Fancy huge peen 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
This was such a sweet, slightly meandering, character driven story ❤. Not a ton of action, but the characters just made you love every minute of it. Both of the MMCs were a bit insecure and desperately wanted to be loved. This was my first story by this author, but I'm planning on investing in a hardback copy and starting in on her backlog. Love, love, love!
Thorn is absolutely adorable! Yes despite him being this strong male muscled orc he’s exactly that ADORABLE! how could you not be smitten with him? And him throwing tantrums? Yes adorable 😂
I love Ellie too now, she was so open minded when being thrown into another realm and took all those changes, and being poisoned like a champ. I would have been a panicky mess!! lol
The author did amazing with this book, it’s detailed, there’s character growth, everyone is so accepting and patient, I adored Emans character.
I enjoyed that these orcs were given their own personalities and quirks and sweet. Though Thorn will try to argue otherwise but WE and Ellie all know otherwise lol
And can I just add? Charles? I hope he’s enjoying his new found life with the vamps 😉🧛🏻

fantastic!! this gives you a paranormal and normal world that cross over to help paranormal beings find their soul mates. but not all the humans are knowingly aware of this.
I get that the characters are from different realms, but the way Thorn (MMC) was written at the start made him hard to like. His lack of knowledge about humans came across less as sweet or naive and more like he was unintelligent. The short sentences, constant apologies, and even hitting himself made me feel like the author was trying to make him sound dumb rather than inexperienced. He did grow on me later, but it took a while. The FMC - Ellie, had the same problem. I understand she wouldn’t immediately know orc culture since she’s from Earth, but her wide-eyed cluelessness made her frustrating to read. On top of that, the food-related nicknames she gave Thorn really pushed her into the “kind-hearted but silly” category instead of feeling like a strong lead. The spice was decent, but the pacing dragged. This book could have been much shorter than it was. The whole section where the heroine is recovering from the poison dart and can’t move or see went on forever and slowed the story down way too much.
Overall, the setup had potential and I liked parts of the worldbuilding, but the characters and pacing didn’t quite work for me
Okay, let’s get this out of the way — Thorn felt like it took the scenic route. It was definitely on the longer side, and and I noticed quite a few grammatical mistakes along the way. But hey, the story itself was solid enough to keep me hooked, especially if you’re a fan of orc romances (which I am😉). Bonus points: No third-act break-up drama! Finally, a romance that stays together instead of tossing in a last-minute heartbreak curveball. So if you’re down for a slightly bumpy but sweet orc ride, Thorn is worth a read! 🧚♀️🥖🍞🥐🎂 HEA? yes 3rd act break-up? no 🌶🌶🌶/5
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
4.25/5⭐️
This is my first book by Vera Foxx and it will not be the last. The best way to describe this book is smut with a side of plot and I say this in the best way possible. Even if there was so much smut there was still some plot that made the story interesting and the world building was really nice and easy to follow. The main couple was so cute together and even though at first I didn’t like Thorns attitude and I though that he was a red flag but I grew to love him and understand him more as the book showed us more of his culture. The love that blossomed between the was so cute and by the end of the book I had no doubt that they were meant to be. The side characters were also so amazing, my favorite character by far was Eman (he is just the best) and I cannot wait to see the story of his son. But in the end I loved all of the characters because they were so unique and different from one another. The ending was so sweet, cute and the perfect ending for those two because they deserved it. I cannot wait to continue this series in the future and see the stories of Thorn’s brothers. I absolutely recommend this book if you are looking for a fated mates monster romance with an alpha MMC that is angry at everyone except his love.
I didn’t plan to read another Orc romance but one of my book groups was discussing this so I decided to give it a try!
The author does some great world building, describing geographical features of the land as well as the customs and rituals of the Orcs who live there.
This is a 5 star read for pure escapism and some nice, steamy scenes. Thorn is huge, muscular, and green, with an enormous appendage that needs to be strapped to his thigh so as to not draw attention to it. Ellie is small statured but curvy, and finds herself developing an attraction to Thorn after he rescues her from one of his ogre traps. He feels responsible, since it was HIS trap that ensnared her and injected poison into her, rendering her paralyzed and unconscious for an extended period of time.
Ellie causes Thorn to feel some things, leading him to believe she is his mate. And so begins a process of him taking care of her: sponge bathing her, feeding her, changing her, and rubbing a special salve ALL OVER her body to help stimulate her muscles and counteract the poison. And Ellie likes it. And she likes Thorn. But will she be able to leave the human world behind? Or will he scare her away?
If you like monster romance with world building, some good steam, snd anand an overall sweet storyline, you may like Thorn!
This is the first book of read from this author and I loved every pages I turned and the main characters both had issues that they had to over come and the difference in there cultures had me lol in moments and grabbing for a tissue as well. Eloise is a human that has just arrived in New Orleans after she left her cheating now Ex husband and her family and in a bar finds friends and when a witch transports her to Bergarian she wakes in a world where Orc are real and she runs and gets caught in a trap and saved by Thorn. Thorn is an Orc that leads the tribe with his brothers who are waiting for the females the Goddess promised and nothing has happened was it all a lie but when his trap is triggered he finds a females how has him protecting her from an evil Orc they have been looking for and at first she is scared of him but soon realises she is safe with him. But in the end Eloise and Thorn have had some hot and steamy times and the chemistry is off the charts which made this a great book and after there own issues are worked out they get there HEA in the end. There is so much more to this book that will have the reader hooked and I look forward to the next book and the next brother finding his HEA.

A new species, a new hero, and a new look into Bergarian's people, as well as their shared history.
This is another great book from Vera Foxx, and it is a great start to another great Bergarian series. She does something that seemed almost impossible when I heard that she was writing this series, and that was to make an orc seem sexy. Well, I can assure you that she definitely succeeded in the sexy department, as well, as showing the inner most emotions of an orc, while still making them seem wild, uncontrollable, and very rough around the edges. Thorn's story takes place well after the Dark War, and everything that takes place at that time. The Orc's have now been waiting for their mates, or miresas for many, many years, and some have even started to wonder if the Moon Goddess would keep her promise. That is when Ellie is quite literally dropped into Thorn's territory from Earth, with no knowledge of what is going on. That is when the real fun begins. We get to learn more of what happened with several of our main characters during this time, with Osiris, Melina, Clara as well as Kane, all making an appearance at some point in the story. Oh, and this just gave me another reason to have purple as my favorite colour.🍆
I love a good orc story—who doesn’t love a muscle-bound orc as your fated mate? But I just couldn’t get past the tantrums. When a toddler throws a tantrum, that’s age-appropriate. When a fully grown orc does it? Ugh, no.
Vera Foxx tried to explain it away as a way for him to release or distract from his “big feelings,” but mate, I was appalled. That’s red flag behavior in my book… or any book, really.
I don’t mind a possessive MMC/FMC, but when you pair that with full-blown tantrums? SMFH. I don’t even know why I kept reading—guess Mumma didn’t raise a quitter.
The book was way too long. The beginning dragged, especially when Thorn was looking after Ellie while she recovered. I get that Vera Foxx was trying to build their connection and get us invested in their relationship, but I just wanted to skip through so much of it.
And the ending? Ugh. I’m irritated. It was so sudden—where did she magically get all his strength to take down an ogre? WTF.
The pregnancy at the end felt rushed too, but I guess it was necessary to wrap it up as a standalone.
Vera Foxx does fated mates incredibly well. So when I saw an Orc book added to the Under the Moon universe, I jumped at the opportunity to ARC read it. Ellie was raised in a wealthy family and did what was expected of her, including an arranged marriage. When she caught her husband cheating, she gave him divorce papers and went to a bar. She woke up in an unfamiliar place, and was attacked by an ogre. When she thought it couldn't get worse, she ended up in a trap with a tranquilizer in her neck. Thorn was a loner who was hunting an ogre that was terrorizing his territory. The last thing he expected was a human woman to end up in his trap. As with all of Vera's MMCs, Thorn is OTT protective and doesn't even want other males to look at his mate. Ellie made me laugh throughout the book, the pet names she had for Thorn and his reactions were hilarious. This was a fun book, with plenty of spice.
This book is unlinke anything Vera has written thus far! It's so unique and yet still fits within the Bergarian storyline.
Without giving away too much, Vera has started the process of giving mates to the Orcs, just like it was promised after the Dark War, and Thorn was first! But the twists and turns of how that process comes to fruition is unlike any mating process we've seen thus far. It was such a fun and exciting experience, and I'm so honored to have gotten to be a part of that journey.
If you're looking for a fun, witty banter, with a fantastic world building romantacy, and a strong, fierce HEA, this is the book for you!
This is part of a larger series, or can be read as a standalone.
I liked the story and the characters, but there were so many misspellings and other errors that should be caught during editing. The book would be a 4 star if not for that and weird insistence of the author on repetition, it was jarring when in one sentence there was a tensing body, heating body and shivering body. By the way it was the same body mentioned three times, not three different people. The whole book needed more editing, but the premise was great. Both main characters were likeable, Thorn was such a sweet orc towards Ellie, but had really huge anger issues. Ellie had a lot of baggage from her life on Earth, but she was brave and adjusted pretty quickly to her new circumstances. I'm giving the next book in the series a try ;)
I am SO glad I got to be an ARC reader for this book because omg, this is such an adorable story y'all. Thorn is the perfect combination of awkward, innocent, and rough around the edges. I love how the Orcs are written as a very physical and literal people so when Thorn meets his mate Ellie and is confused by these inside feelings I couldn't stop grinning. There's a great element of being starved for love as well as touch on both MC's storylines that the author uses as a charming way that the MC's find common ground with each other. Totally a fun, steamy, sweet orc romance, 5/5 Stars for sure.
- orc x human - fated mates - monster romance - obsessed and possessive mmc - he takes care of her - banter
This is probably one of my top monster romances. I was in the mood for a monster romance and this totally did it for me. I loved the story line and world building. Thorn was the ultimate OTP male as soon as he learned Ellie was his fated mate, or as the Orcs call them - his miresa. I loved the banter between not only the 2 main couple but also the 3 orgamo's. Especially Eman. The bond he developed with Ellie was so sweet.
This was my first Vera Foxx book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Eloise's (h) life of luxury unravels when she discovers her husband's infidelity, and leaving her sheltered life behind, she meets Thorn (H), a powerful orc leader, setting her on a path of self-discovery and adventure. Thorn, a rugged warrior leading a tribe in search of their mates, despite growing doubt, evolves into a protective alpha who complements Eloise's character. Their blossoming love leads to plenty of sizzle and intimate moments that deepen the connection between Eloise and Thorn. Lovely orc-human fated mates romance with lots of heat, humor and witty banter, and love.
This was such a good mix of hot, dirty and adorable.
Great world building and I love how the FMC arrived in a strange new land. It was a little rough but she found where she was supposed to be. The MMC is adorable in a gruff and grumpy sort of way. I love how you can just adore all these red flags in books lol but honestly he’s so good to her. I definitely appreciate all the hilarious pet names she comes up with.
Super cute med-burn MF romance. Totally recommend this as a good light hearted read.
If you love low angst, insta love, and fated mates this book is for you. It was so sweet and tender and the banter was so funny. Miscommunications and language differences lead to some funny moments.
Thorn is a big ole cinnamon roll alpha male, at least for his mate. (That sentence will be funny once you read the book.) His family is so absolutely sweet and you’ll fall in love with them too.
Ellie had always done as she's told, but when her arranged marriage husband cheats she files for divorce, going to a bar was just the distress she needed only to end up in a place unknown being changed by an Ogre! Thorn had been setting traps for the Ogre when instead he finds Ellie caught in his trap and she's his mate! Well written steamy orc/human fated mates and more.

Eloise wakes up in a field after a night of drinking. Then she is running for her life. Thorn finds Eloise in one of his traps and is convinced that she is his maresa (his sole mate). Thorn is an absolute sweetie. This is a beautiful story and Thorn's fathers are wonderful. I enjoyed this story a lot and look forward to reading more by Vera Foxx.

This story was definitely more than my expectations. I absolutely loved both Ellie and Thorn. Thorn reminds me of Drax from guardians of the galaxy in sense of personality of being so literal. Their communication was hilarious including Ellie's pet names for him. Thorn was a big teddy bear. He treated her like a queen with absolute love and adoration. It definitely made me wish I could meet Thorn. I'm excited to see how the other 2 Orcs love stories unfold.
She's done it again! Masterful storyteller and superlative author Vera Foxx takes us on another extraordinary journey into the mystical Bergarian world of shifters, fae, fairies, pixies, orcs, and humans! Vera's words contain the power and capacity to weave a story of love so mighty that it supplants any notion of its cessation. A quintessential love that is unlimited and immutable, ceaseless and undiminished even into death.
I really enjoyed this book. It certainly was a fun adventure. Great world building and wonderful characters. I really liked both Ellie and Thorn and the way their relationship built. They had great chemistry between them. I also liked the supporting characters- especially Osirus and some of the other orcs. I also enjoyed learning of the orc culture in this world. 4 stars.
Well, I read the whole dang thing. It was not well written and the sex scenes could have been spicier (especially considering the triple knot cock). But it wasn't so bad I DNF'd. Beware the unexpected pregnancy trope, complete with birth scene.
Loved every second of this book! Monster romance truly is one of my most favorite genres! The story line kept me interested, I loved the magic, all the characters were amazing. I liked that there were more than just orcs, but fae, vampires, witches, and all different types of creatures.
I love how caring Thorn was to Ellie. He truly wanted to give her everything. She deserved it too!
