Quiet Magic

Rate this book
A Yours, Mine and Ours collection of short stories from Liaden Universe® authors Sharon Lee and Steve Miller.

In Steve Miller's "And Hawks for Heralds," we meet Rove Captain Slate, who doesn't believe in magic, and who only wants to cross a bridge and settle his men for the night. Unfortunately, the Bispham is on duty, and he's taken exception to the Rove Captain and his men.

"Master of the Winds," by Sharon Lee follows two hopeful young people during their test to become the Kitemaster's apprentice. Only one can succeed.

Lee and Miller join forces in "Candlelight," the story of a family-by-intent, and the craft that holds them together.

Sharon Lee

Sharon Lee has been married to her first husband for more than half her lifetime; she is a friend to cats, a member of the National Carousel Association, and oversees the dubious investment schemes of an improbable number of stuffed animals.

Despite having been born in a year of the dragon, Sharon is an introvert. She lives in Maine because she likes it there. In fact, she likes it so much that she has written five novels set in Maine; contemporary fantasy trilogy Carousel Tides, Carousel Sun, Carousel Seas, and mysteries Barnburner and Gunshy.

With the aforementioned first husband, Steve Miller, Sharon has written twenty novels of science fiction and fantasy — many of them set in the Liaden Universe® — and numerous short stories. She has occasionally been an advertising copywriter, a reporter, photographer, book reviewer, and secretary. She was for three years Executive Director of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc., and was subsequently elected vice president and then president of that organization.

Small treasures

Every short story was better than the last. I completely enjoyed every word. The stories are thoughtful, full of rich characters and left me with a feeling of quiet joy. Thank you Miller and Lee, you have given me so much food for thought and so much joy over the years. ❤️

GOOD, DIFFERENT, ENJOYABLE

These stories are all short and I want them to be much longer. We are introduced to potential friends but must let them go to potentially meet elsewhere.

I liked the second and third story better than the first. all of them would be better if they were longer! As usual I'm left wishing for more of these worlds they build.

Charming

A very unexpected treat. 3 stories that are as different from each other as possible, but all display a form of magic that can only be described as charming.
