Guardian Academy #1a

Entranced: Part One

Rate this book
Alana Avery’s life is far from normal. Most of her family are Keepers, warriors chosen to protect the human race, and for as long as she can remember, she has been training to become a Keeper herself. So when she’s chosen to be a Guardian, investigators who solve paranormal crimes and murders, her life changes in an instant.

Alana has to attend Guardian Academy to train for her new role as a Guardian investigator. There, she meets Luca Gray, her new partner who happens to be a werewolf. Luca is smart, cocky, sexy, and drives Alana absolutely crazy.

Despite Alana’s confliction with Luca, her training and new life seem to be going well. That is until her grandfather is murdered.

Alana is determined to track down who killed her grandfather, even if it means getting help from Luca. But as she digs deeper into the case, she discovers there might be more to her family and the academy than meets the eye.

(A spin-off novella series from the Fallen Star Series about Gemma and Alex’s daughter, but the Guardian Academy Series can be read on its own.)

I fell in love with Alex and Gemma’s story in Shattered Promises. It’s a fantastic paranormal series. When I heard Jessica Sorensen was doing a spin off with their child, Alana, I knew I had to read it straight away. As an fyi- you can read this as a stand-alone, but I felt like I connected better to the story and characters because I had read the original series.

Alana comes from a family of powerful Keeper’s and she’s just waiting- waiting until she gets her mark. The thing that will signify her strength, power and place in the family. The mark she gets isn’t what she’s expecting. Alana has only ever thought being a Keeper is in her future, to find out she’s been given the mark of a Guardian is quite a shock.

Alana was a wonderful character. I loved her strength, wit and determination. It was great to see more of the characters I loved from the original series and I’m very interested to learn more about this Jaxon that Alana has been paired with at the Academy.

Entranced ended in a bit of a cliffy, but that didn’t shock me. It’s one of those endings where you’re super anxious to read the next book. So please, Jessica- don’t make us wait too long! I very much enjoyed the start of this paranormal story and I’m looking forward to reading more!!!

I decided that this year I am making it my goal which I have to admit I do try every year is to read my older books off my devices instead of buying new ones. Thank goodness for KU as it saves me a lot of money. Years ago, when New Adult was first coming out on the market - one of my favorite NA authors was Jessica Sorensen and so I brought all her books and most have sat on my kindle since 2015-ish. Entranced is Part #1 of the Guardian Academy series where we meet Alana Avery. Her parents are Keepers - they are the ones who hunt down the baddies and her grandfather is a Foreseer - a bit like an Oracle. In Alana's world, the kids receive a mark that will tell them what they are destined to be. Alana is late to get her mark and her family are in for a surprise as unlike the Keeper mark they expected, Alana has been destined to become a Guardian - which to her is the worst job. Alana now has to attend an academy for Guardians and train up and be away from her friends. Here she meets two werewolves twin brothers Jax and Dash. Before she leaves for the Academy, her grandfather gives her a dagger to protect with her life and visits her in a dream world. What happens though when her grandfather is killed and it seems to be surrounding the whereabouts of the dagger? Can Alana help not only solve her grandfather's death as he was murdered but also protect and keep hidden the dagger that he obviously risked his life to steal and keep hidden? Entranced Part#1 ends on a major cliffhanger. However, this book was republished and is also available as one complete story under the same title - Entranced.

3.5 downgraded to just a 3

A good read, albeit, far too short. Some of the writing felt quite clumsy at first but you soon get used to it. I’m very tempted to try the next book because this one, admittedly, sucked me in.

(So I wrote this review believing that I’d read the whole of this book only to become incredibly confused when none of the second one made any sense…turns out I only read Part 1 of Book 1 even though in no way did the E-book suggest that it was only the first half. I can’t even find the second so I’m just gonna leave this one where it is which is a shame because I was actually excited to see where it went)

I always thought that the Falling Star/Shattered Promises series was an interesting take on paranormal fiction, but I was taken by surprise with how creative and different Entranced ended up being (especially compared to its predecessor series). First of all, Entranced is a mystery. I love mysteries—the more intriguing, the better. And Sorensen does a good job of setting up the mystery without overdoing it, enough to leave me intrigued and curious to find out what happens next.

The pacing of Entranced Part One was good as it set up for the rest of the books in the series. There are various mysteries introduced in this novel, and I can’t wait to see how they all unravel. There were a great cast of characters, wonderful snakiness from our protagonist Alana, great world building, enough to satisfy my curiosity from the previous series and enough to further my curiosity of where this series could go.

I liked Jax/Jaxon Gray. The banter between Alana and Jax was hilarious, snarky, and natural.
Alana was as witty, funny, and sarcastic as Jax—making me enjoy all of their moments together. I can’t wait to see their friendship and relationship develop as the series continues.

Overall, I’m impressed with how this book started. I’m looking forward to what’s in store for Alana, Jax, and all of the other characters introduced in this novel.

A great start to a new series! Mystery, intrigue, great characters and world building...I can't wait to get more! A YA spin off novella series from the Fallen series featuring Gemma and Alex's daughter Alana. I loved seeing old characters and meeting new ones.

A while back, I immersed myself in The Fallen Stars series. It was an amazing series, that drew me in from the very beginning. Like many others were excited to see that Jessica was writing a spin off novella series with Alex and Gemma's daughter. I picked up this book and read it straight through, sure it's a novella, but the length had nothing to do with that. I was addicted from the very beginning; I mean we meet this wonderful, and strong young woman. A perfect combination of both her parents, in my opinion, and although she's part of this whole supernatural upbringing, she doesn't quite act like it. She's her own person, and fearless. I immediately saw my favorite characteristics in this heroine. My only complaint was it ended too soon. I know it's a novella series, and that's great, but I didn't want to let go of the book.

We meet Alana, the daughter of the most strongest keepers. She's only seventeen, but has been waiting for her mark to appear. You see, once her mark appears. She will be an official Keeper and finally given what she's always wanted to belong. Her only friend has gotten his mark and from what she knows from him and her parents it's everything it's cracked up to be. She is determined to show the Keepers that she has what it takes with or without a mark by tracking down a dangerous and wanted being, where she meets a attractive and mysterious stranger who also appears to be a werewolf, and that's when her mark appears, but it's not the one she was waiting for but one entirely different. The Gaurdian mark appears, and from that moment on her life is turned upside down, and she is forced to leave the ones she cares for to attend the academy. She has no choice but to go, and to her surprise Mr. Werewolf, is there as her guide. She realizes that things are much different when she arrives at the academy, and that there isn't anyone in this world worth trusting.

This book was packed with a lot of information. You get caught up on the history quickly. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading if you get a chance. They will give you a deeper look into this whole supernatural world. It was a great introduction to the characters and the story. It unfolds pretty quickly, and by the end, I was anxious to learn more about the characters we are introduced to at the academy.

The most interesting being Alana, and Jax (the werewolf) whose relationship is tense in the beginning, and grows into sort of a close connection between them. I foresee something special between them, maybe even epic.

If you are a fan of this paranormal, this one is great one to read. You will be able to read in one sitting, and I'm sure the story will hook you from the beginning. It was a pleasure to spend my evening with this book, and without saying I cannot wait to see where Jessica will take us with this series.

Great opening to a brand new series! I can see a lot of great investigations in the future, with suspense, mystery--of course--romance, and evil characters you wish have untimely, gruesome deaths!

Good but short

It was a good read for me, the characters were engaging and fun but the book was too short, wish it was longer.

I enjoyed the first of this series. However, the series is very short read for the price. I finished the 1,2, and 3 in a day.

Alana is seventeen and anxiously waiting for her Keepers mark to appear so she can go on missions with her best friend and cousin Jayse so things can return to normal between them, things have changed since he got his mark a year ago.

When Alana’s mark arrives it’s not the keepers mark like most of her family. Now she has to leave her home, family, and friends to attend the academy for training.

“Keeper- warriors who protect the human race from all those scary things that go bump in the night” Alana

Jaxon aka Jax the “cute” werewolf Alana bumped into the night she was at the Black Dungeon is also a Guardian, her assort to the academy, and her trainer.

“I want to be strong. Hell, I come from a family of Keepers, Foreseers, and even a with, so I should be stronger than this.”

After Alana arrives at the academy and her training started she gets bad news involving a family member and she asks to assist with the case before returning home.

“I won’t be protecting the world. I scoot away from the table and stand up. I’ll just be waiting around until something bad happens and then cleaning up the mess.”

Jessica Sorensen has not disappointed me in the least with Alana’s story. I can’t wait to find out what happens between Alana and Jax and for Alana to figure out what’s going.

Happy Reading you will enjoy this story.

This was a pretty average start to this new Paranormal series. I liked the inclusion of all the different creatures – Vampires, Werewolves, Fae etc – and I liked the idea of humans having different jobs in their world, which are assigned via the ‘mark’ that appears on their bodies. I liked Jax well enough, and I’m curious about his twin Dash. What I didn’t like so much was the stories heroine. She was pretty whiny and her 100 questions about everything were tiresome. But what annoyed me the most was how reckless she was about her grandpa and the dreams. I’ll continue with the series, because if nothing else, they’re short and take no time at all to read. And yeah, I’m curious to see what happened with Gramps.

Seriously!!! WOW!!

I absolutely loved Jessica Sorensen's Shattered Promises Series, and when I learned that she was writing a spin-off about Alex and Gemma's daughter, well I can't even begin to describe my excitement!

Her name is Alana Avery, the daughter of Alex and Gemma Avery. Through all the total bullshit and complete danger they went through, through surviving their Destiny, they were able to produce and protect something so precious and sweet.

Alana is almost grown now, living in the keepers castle with her parents and grandfather Lucas. She seems to be very strong and determined to prove her strength and worth.

Her cousin Jayce has already received his keeper Mark, but she has not, that's why she is always doing reckless things, to show how strong she is.

Will she receive her mark? What she is destined to be? A keeper? Or will Destiny throw her a tremendous curveball?

I am so proud of Alana, I love her personality and her straight up attitude.

This book is insanely awesome! I absolutely loved it and I can't wait to start on part 2!

Great, GREAT start to the series, which is a spin-off of the Fallen Star series. Wooo, that one was so juicy!

I need more!
I need more background on Jax, the sexy werewolf. I have a feeling that he and Alana are going to make one kick ass team. And omg who else things Alana will have more than one mark? I mean come on her parents are Gemma & Alex…eeep!!! They are legendary Keepers. Alana’s entire family line are Keepers so she was very disappointed when a Guardian mark appeared instead of a Keeper one. The marks appear on your body and it guides you to what status you belong in the supernatural world.
When Alana finally gets her mark (Guardian one) she is uprooted the very next day. She has to live on campus at the Guardian Academy to train and learn their ways. Alana’s teacher happens to be the sexy werewolf Jax. Score one for Alana. :-)
So much happens within days its unreal. I can’t wait to get my hands on Part 2.

I really liked this one. Enough that I was annoyed when it ended so quickly. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for 2 reasons. #1 The typos and grammatical errors where distracting. #2 A couple things seemed obvious and yet our character was slow to catch on, which I found disappointing. I mean, why didn't she see it? Is the character suppose to be that naive at this point or does the author just give too much away too soon?

This was a great start to a novella series. I really enjoyed it. I really liked The Shattered Promises series, so naturally I wanted to read the series that focuses on Alex and Gemma's daughter, Alana.

I really liked Alana and her werewolf partner, Jax. I'm also curious about another certain somebody. ( no spoilers) Of course, I wish it was longer, but I can't wait to see where this novella series goes!

Well this book just jumped right into things there was never a slow or dull moment to this book. Overall a pretty great start of the book and I look forward to seeing part two. Thing is as much as I liked how short this book (novella?) was I wished it would just have the other books with it rather then getting a glimpse into what is going on and having to get the next book to see what happens next.

I LOVED this story!!! I picked it up this morning and wasn't able to put it down until I finished it. Once again Jessica has created characters you are invested in, interested in who you want to know more about and placed them in a story that sucks you in!! The twists and turns of the Guardian Academy left me wanting more!! Cannot wait for the next installment.

I'm not really sure what to say about this book. It was good and a fun read. But it was also short. Although a lot happened in the book, it kind of felt like not much actually happened. I enjoyed the sassy lead character. She's feisty and strong, but also vulnerable. I'm looking forward to the second book, but I hope more happens.

Be warned...this is short book and it left me wanting more! Can't wait until Part 2! There was no lag in getting interested in the story for this book, the characters are engaging and great. I haven't read the series that this was a spin-off from, but that made no difference. I might just have to get that series while I wait for part 2!

Very short

It is a great "chapter." I would not even call it a part because there is only a climax and then it ends. If all of the parts were one book. I would read it. But the fact I have to wait so long for the next "chapter" is not something I like. I would not start this book until all the "parts" come out. It only took me an hour and half to read this. Not worth it.

I doubt that I will continue with this story to read book 2

I hated how everyone hid things from this character and treated her like a child....but then turned around trained her to be a super assassin kickass woman.

It was confusing and I found myself irritated more then once.
