Six months ago Liberty Collins was advancing in her career at a prosperous marketing firm and dreaming of a bright future. Now the only thing darker than her nightmares is reality. In a socially, and economically, collapsed America, Liberty struggles to find the courage to endure, and the strength to protect herself. Her faith, constitution, and sanity are challenged as the lines that separate right from wrong grow increasingly blurry. Connor Dunstan was a thriving personal injury attorney with a comfortable life and a deeply-buried past. As the country crumbles and provisions dissipate, the survival of Connor and his unforgiving niece, Ashley, rests on his ability to trust someone other than himself.
Amanda Washington is a lover of animals, books, dark chocolate, and red wine. She's always up for a good adventure (real or fictional), and when she's not building imaginary worlds, she's dipping her toes into reality in southwest Washington with her husband and their boys.
Great story!!! The plot, the theme, the characters, and the storyline are all so enter laced and flow together so well, that if I could give ten stars I would. This book is indeed worth at read,I have no doubt that what ever type of book you enjoy you would enjoy this book. Great Read, thanks Amanda Washington.
Liked the fact that they were falling in love. Didn't understand the running the end was the best part I received this book as a free gift. So made myself read it all
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
The Good...
When I first started reading Rescuing Liberty, I wasn't positive that I would be able to finish it, but I'm so glad I pushed on. The dark beginning firmly sets the reader in a dystopian fantasy world where what's expected and what's reality is completely turned around. It's a fantastic setup for the rest of the story as we are continually thrust into seeing every situation from multiple points of view.
I loved how flawed the characters were and how God didn't answer all their questions or give them what they wanted. Needs were met, but often in unexpected ways that sent the characters in a tail-spin. While most of us don't hear the Call like Liberty, it was perfect the way Washington mimics the way God's instructions come to God's chosen in the Bible.
Even the romance in the story was well done. It was refreshing to see two characters come together in the midst of such horrible struggles and have neither one come off as whiney or stereotypical romance characters. I was pulled into their personal struggles first and the romance simply bloomed as naturally as a flower planted by a bird in the wild. By the end of the story I was fully invested in seeing Connor and Libby become a couple.
The Not-so-good...
I'm not entirely convinced telling the story in both first person from Libby's viewpoint and in third person from other character viewpoints was the best choice for the overall story. It jarred me out of the story at first. The further on I read, though, the easier the switch back and forth became until it was almost natural.
The only other problem I had with the book was that there were a few sections that could have used just a little more proofreading. In general, those areas weren't so bad that I couldn't automatically make the corrections as I read. There were, however, a couple places that I had to stop and re-read a sentence more than once to figure out.
The Overall...
Rescuing Liberty (Perseverance) by Amanda Washington is second only to Frank Perretti's Piercing the Darkness as my favorite Christian novel. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys delving past the darkness that hides beneath the surface of us all into the Light of God.
This was an amazing read! very detailed, a little confusing at first knowing what was going on(as I didn't read the "back of the book" but it skipped from one to the other) lots of "backflashes" in form of dreams giving insight to the characters. the emotions each character display are so real! and not just that a character might have them, but written with a force that owns them. A spiritual/religious aspect was phenomenal in a world where people no longer believe, it's so strong with Liberty and again amazing. it really opened my eyes.
This book has an interesting premise --- the U.S. melts down, basically, due to trying to bail out too many corporations. And I could mostly handle the main character communing with god repeatedly. But the story was just over-the-top gory, so much so that it felt like the author watches a lot of sensational TV and was trying to mimic that. After a while, I just stopped being able to stomach the violence.
I really enjoyed this book. I kept trying to imagine myself in the same circumstances!! I like Liberty. I liked that she did not trust Connor right away. I liked Ashley's character. She gives a softness to both Liberty and Connor. I'm glad Connor did not stay the ego maniac attorney or I could never like him. Looking forward to the next book.
The beginning of the book was hard for me to get in to. I really enjoyed it once everything started moving. One of my only complaints is that the plot started to get farfetched towards the end. his army buddy randomly showing up and saving them? the army of killer teenagers? I would read the sequel but I wouldn't want to spend money on it. I got this book for free on amazon.
I loved this book! I typically don't enjoy works written in first person, but Amanda Washington weaves a story that sucks you in and you feel like you're trying to survive right along with Liberty. Rooting for her to survive and give Connor a chance! GREAT book!
In An Oyster Shell- This book is not my preferred genre and yet it kept my attention with a unique storyline and excellent storytelling with characters you learn to cheer for. A more in-depth review is available at http://writingpearls.com/review-rescu...
