The Rockies’ wilderness traps them together, and they must overcome their differences to survive…
Mom said I should lose weight. So, I did.I broke up with my long-term, walking red flag of a boyfriend. Then I tackled something everybody thought I would never do.I grabbed my camera and I set off to explore the untamed beauty of Yellowstone. Now, all I have to do is find myself a guide. Someone brave enough to explore these breathtaking landscapes with me.
Noah is tall, dark, and handsome. He's the biggest man I’ve ever seen. He’s also the grumpiest. He says he’s being protective of the park. All I hear is nagging and bickering. He’s a gruff, reclusive mountain man who obviously hates city girls like me.I promise it’s only a few days. He agrees to guide me.
And then the storm hits and not even my sunny optimism can save me.Noah's eyes flame every time he looks at me. With lust or hate.Maybe both.
Can we reach a middle ground and survive the weather together?Or will this hate shatter every chance we have at happiness?
Erin Havoc writes short, steamy romance with no cliffhangers, no cheating and a guaranteed HEA! Her heroines are always curvy and she writes contemporary, dark, and shifter romance.
yall ever been so desperate to finish ur goodreads goal??? that’s what just happened to me. worst hour and a half of my life. stuff ur kindle day got me yall
Stuff My Kindle find. I honestly struggled to finish this one, but did just so I could read another one. The author does more telling than showing. It feels very "X says, Y does, X feels, Y feels", without really letting you come to your own understanding or imagining of the characters. Spice was there but had multiple moments of "how did they get to this position from that one?" moments. Didn't make me want to read anymore of the series.
This was a sweet outdoorsy novella that is pretty easy reading and low-mid drama. The premise is that Abigail reeling from a bad break up and a toxic relationship with her fat-shaming mother who sided with her ex, decides to travel to Montana to follow her dreams of being a nature/wildlife photographer. There, she meets Noah, who mistrusts the motivations of outsiders wanting to take pictures and potentially destroy the sacred places of the Montana forests by making them tourist attractions. Sparks instantly fly between the two and just as their relationship develops, Abigail’s ex and mother return to her life.
There was nothing wrong with this at all. I liked that it featured a curvy heroine. For me, it was a little lacking in character development. It made little sense that the heroine with zero prior experience was so good in nature and also that IT guy, Noah, was more or less a woodsman…. That said, if you don’t scrutinize too hard, it’s a really enjoyable read, enough that I would read other books in this series.
The characters were pleasant and the writing style was ok. Just seemed like a lot was crammed in to a short space of time. I think it would have been better to be a longer book and more of the tension between the 2 at the start.
This is book one of the Burly Mountain Men series and the main characters are protective and reclusive mountain man Noah of Aspen Glen, Colorado, and Abigail Brown, from Chicago, who has come to the wilds of the Rockies to recharge and take photos of the scenery and wildlife of Yellowstone Park. Both her mother and her ex-boyfriend constantly put her down and said she couldn’t do anything. She has all the supplies she should need and has booked somewhere to stay until she can find a guide to take her on the less trodden trials, where she will have the best chance to get good photos. Days later, she still hasn’t found anyone to guide her into the mountains and could have given up, but she is loving the scenery and wants to complete her dream and show those who know her, exactly what she can do and prove them wrong! Everyone in town that sees her, believes her to be a rich city girl and too curvy to be able to cope with the trails. Noah works in IT, but is completely remote, but even then often finds himself fed up with constant meetings and demands on his time. He goes into town for a meal to escape and ends up at in his usual booth, which Abigail had already taken unbeknownst to him. He had already been unable to ignore her laugh and beauty, but wanted to ignore her due to bad memories of another woman in his past.
Abigail isn’t someone a man can ignore and she eventually manages to get the grumpy mountain man to agree to guide her into the mountains, with Noah believing she won’t even last a day, never mind ten. Ready and waiting for him the next morning with her brand new walking boots, with a huge grin on her face, disarms him, but also annoys him. She stops at every moment anything strikes her eye and takes a photo. He thinks she just wants something to put on her social media pages and he isn’t like most people in the mountains. He doesn’t hunt animals and hates people who walk off the trials, destroying nature, or looking to get up and close with wild animals without thinking of the dangers! Their days together soon have her making fun of him or getting annoyed with him the next minute, as his grumpy shell is really difficult to break. Eventually she manages to crack the hard shell he has around him and he finds himself taking her off trail to a few of his favourite spots. A bad storm sees them stuck on the mountain, but it is an animal attack on her tent that leaves them closer together than expected and feelings start to grow. But her time on the mountains is coming to a close and he is reluctant to show his full feelings for her and ask her if she would stay, as his previous relationship ended painfully and brings about similar memories.
Can he trust her to do the right thing with her photos once she leaves? Whether he can manage without her once she’s gone, is something this grumpy loner wasn’t expecting and it will take fellow loner Hunter to bring him a clue he needs to realise the truth of his desires for the future. Great storyline showing the true way to enjoy the unspoiled wilderness and to ensure it will still be there for generations to come. Could have done without the meddling mother sending the ex-boyfriend she liked, to get Abigail to go back with him! Thankfully she has grown in her own self-confidence and knows what she wants to do and who with and it definitely isn’t with someone her mother wants for her. Noah started off hating what he thought she stood for, but she has proven herself on their days and nights together, and since. I loved the epilogue showing where they were years later, but really wanted to know more about the elusive Hunter, who even Noah didn’t really know much about. I look forward to reading more of this series and seeing some more lovely mountain views, in more than one way. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Well for one the whole thing where he's an IT guy who loves nature so much he can't stand anyone even taking too many photos, and doesn't like hunting but lives in the wilderness...
Like, they lament how gross and awful hunting is after having burgers at the pub... And of course to show how bad hunting is, all the hunters just shoot elk and moose and leave them where they land to rot. Like what? It was a little heavy handed with what this author must think of when it comes to loving nature. And it doesn't come across like she has much experience with it.
I still don't know what job the heroine left, just that she wants to be a nature photographer even though she's never even been camping flies somewhere without any arrangements and then just goes up to people randomly to ask to be a guide for her for what's described as one week or ten days depending on the chapter, of hiking.
She is of course a virgin for *reasons.* The sex scenes are odd, like the first night we end with them just passionately kissing in the tent together and then... That was it. Chapter ends and we have to assume they just stop I guess.
Then nothing happens until days later and he goes down on her and then... Nothing. Chapter ends and we assume they just then go to sleep?
Then they finally have sex, no BC but no pregnancy or even talk of prevention. And for some reason she's calling him Sir during sex out of the blue? I've never seen the word "cockhead" used so frequently.
So ya anyways I mean, it's a short and smutty book you should probably not think too much into.
I'm having like zero luck on these Stuff My Kindle books.
And can we talk about how no one "took" anyone. Like the title made me think this was kidnapping or "for your own good" snatching but no one takes anyone here.
Taken by the Grump is the first book in the new Burly Mountain Men series and an entertaining start. Abigail Brown is from Chicago but has always dreamed of being a nature photographer. The problem is that no one believes she can do it, not her mother or her boyfriend who both criticize her incessantly. So one day she ditches the boyfriend and hopes on a plane and then a bus ride to Aspen Glen, which is next to Yellowstone National Park. She is determined to prove everyone wrong but there is one little problem, she needs a local guide and everyone in town seems to not believe she can go to the back country either. That changes when she meets Noah over a couple of days and finally convinces him to take her out for a week. Abigail proves Noah wrong on a lot of levels which intrigues him and makes him want to keep her for himself. But when they get back to town there is a surprise waiting which may or may not spell the end of this new couple. So I really liked this story and the characters. I loved how Abigail believes in herself and is determined to prove everyone wrong as she pursues her passion. Noah I wanted to drop kick a few times but he finally pulled his head out of his "you know what" and realizes just what he wants and pursues her also. The epilogue was sweet, romantic, and perfect for this couple. So my only issue is that the book needs another round with a good proofreader as there were a number of errors which were easily spotted without trying. This disrupted the flow of the story for me but I still loved the book, as it went by fast for the length of it. I am looking forward to this series to see what happens with the other men of Burly.
Taken by the Grump is the first installment in Erin Havoc’s Burly Mountain Men series. In it, she introduces her readers to Abigail Brown, an aspiring nature photographer from Chicago, and Noah, a grumpy mountain man. All her life Abigail has been judged by her appearance. Even her mother and her ex-boyfriend belittle her for her curves. They try to rule her life. Things change when she discovers her boyfriend, Chad, cheated on her. She seeks to fulfill her dream to be a nature photographer and heads out to Montana—Yellowstone area. She wants participate in a 10-day hike into the Montana backcountry and photograph its beauty. She needs a guide but is unsuccessful. She runs into Noah in the local diner. Sparks fly despite his grumpiness. Both of them have emotional scars that impact their romantic lives. Can she persuade him to be her guide? If so, will she be able to last the full 10 days? Will their emotional scars heal? To discover the outcome, you must read this book.
Ms. Havoc penned another entertaining age-gap and instant-love romance. Her plot line follows the romantic journey of the two lead characters who are vulnerable as a result of rejection and betrayal. I thought it was clever that Ms. Havoc uses the 10-day trek into Montana backcountry to move her plot along. I appreciate her mastery of conversational and internal dialog that reveals each character’s backstory. Nicely done, Ms. Havoc!
Taken by the Grump is a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, age-gap, grumpy-sunshine, curvy girl gets her mountain man romance. Abigail is a curvy, sassy, sunshiny nature photographer from Chicago. Her mom and ex-boyfriend constantly criticize her weight and love of nature and photography, making her feel inferior. Noah is a 35 year old hunky, grumpy mountain man who also loves nature. When Abigail goes to Montana to photograph Yellowstone National Park, she is hoping to find someone to guide her through nature. She ends up meeting Noah, who feels a city girl is not up to the challenge. Based on his past, he also doesn't trust her true intentions as he wants to be sure nature is truly preserved. Noah reluctantly agrees to be her guide for a week to go camping through the park and show her things off the main trails. As they spend time together, Noah realizes just how special Abigail is. The two develop a deep connection through their love of nature, and their chemistry is pure fire. Abigail feels truly seen and supported with Noah. But what happens when the trip is done? Will Noah ask her to stay? Or will she return to Chicago? I loved this couple! Their banter back and forth was so cute. After a bit of drama, we finally get a great HEA. I loved it and can't wait for the next one in the series! I hope Hunter gets his own book!.

Start of the Burly Mountain Men series it can be read in an hour or so and I will be waiting for the others curvy girl and the grump who deals with her. Abigail is so much sunshine but with a dash of sassiness, loves nature so much she became a nature photographer she has her issues in dealing with her mother who has always put her down because of her weight, her love for photography also every boyfriend her mother had added to her stress. Noah sexy as all get out grump who loves nature, wants to preserve nature, and the city slicker are the enemy so to speak they come to Yellow Stone wanting a tours but how can they appreciate nature when they come with all their gadgets and devices so when a young curvy women request a tour guide automatically his response is of course a no because his past experiences have proven to anything but nature. After a little convincing he agrees to take her camping for a week and the more time they spend with/around each other he realizes there is something really special about her, something he can’t just walk away from and something he wants in his life especially for their love of nature for the first time in her life someone truly understands her but it is a one week trip what happens when it ends, when she heads back home will they come to an agreement to meet up or will they walk away, will she return to the abuse she has endured for so long or want something so much more with a grump, and can they find their own happiness in nature?
MMC/FMC- Noah and Abigail POV- 1st person dual Genre- Contemporary Romance Sub Genre- Mountain Man Romance Heat level- they do the things and describe the male parts with the word beginning with a C, and the female parts with words beginning with P and T. Series? Y Safety: No Cheating by either main character, No S. Violence, No Cliffhanger. There is some ex drama, but there is a HEA. Triggers- Explicit Erotic Content (with relevant language), animal corpse. Tropes- Forced Proximity, Grumpy/Sunshine, Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, Age Gap, Virgin Heroine, He Falls First, BBW, That’s Not My Leg, It’s Not A Tree Branch Either. What I liked- I loved the banter and gentle teasing. The heroine is a true Sunshine without being annoying. She has a great attitude and is resilient and indefatigable. I loved it when she danced for joy. The hero is Grumpy, but he has good reasons. And under the grumpy exterior, he’s sweet. He’s also strong , protective, and just the right level of possessive. And the nature descriptions are breathtaking. What I don’t like- the gorgeous nature descriptions make me want to go camping, but I don’t camp without plumbing and room service. Verdict- very enjoyable. Recommended.

• Plot 📖📖📖📖 /5 • Characters: 🫂🫂🫂🫂 • Drama/Angst: 😰😰😰😰 • Steam: 🔥🔥 • POV: dual • HEA? ✔️ • Would I re-read? ✔️ • Epilogue? ✔️✔️ last chapter was a couple months later, actual epilogue was 10 years later
I really enjoyed how different this was from other Erin Havoc books I’ve read (Forbidden Curves series & Curves & Ruins series). I love the others, but I really liked the differences too.
I definitely felt for the FMC, she literally had no support system with a cheating bf & a horrible mother that thinks her daughter is a loser & should apologize to said cheating bf 😡
The MMC was definitely so rough on the outside. It took a lot for him to let the FMC in to see his slightly gooey center. His roughness & grumpiness were shields to protect himself.
It was fun to read about their journey and it was definitely a SLOW burn, so be prepared for that!
When they finally got together, it was hot!
The MMC was kind of an idiot in the end and really got in his own way. I wanted to smack him so he’s figure out what an idiot he was being 🤣. I was glad the FMC stood up for herself and embraced the new her.
Can’t wait for the next one!!! I hope it’s about the MMC’s buddy, Hunter 😊

This was such a sweet story. It was funny, steamy and the characters were relatable. Highly recommend!
Abigail Brown wants to be a nature photographer. She is a Chicago city girl. Neither her mother or boyfriend support her decision. After her boyfriend cheated on her she traveled to Aspen Glen to pursue her dream.
Noah works 100% remote in IT. He is a grumpy, reclusive mountain man who is very protective of Yellowstone and nature in general.
They meet while Abigail is looking for a guide to lead her off trail. Their first meeting in the packed local fiber is antagonistic. Next night she bumps into him again at the local bar and he agrees to be her guide. During their week hiking her tent gets destroyed by a bear and they have to share his tent. They start fooling around a bit and fall for each other. By the end of the week they are in love but still afraid to say anything. Her ex is waiting to take her home. Once she is back in Chicago she has an exhibit of her photos. Noah reads about it online and goes to see her. They finally talk about their feelings and get their HEA.

I was a little apprehensive about Abigail. I that she has an atrocious mother and dummy for an ex, but geesh, she is loquacious. I understood Noah wanted to keep the park as free from people. But the issue I had was how he was so quick to lop her in the group of city folks that don't care about nature.
I have to say that Abigail did not five up and through is all she learned about Noah and his past, about nature and how truly strong she really is. Noah learned that not all city slickers are not slickers and some of us love nature, learn from it, want to keep it safe for all lovers of nature and that when love calls, it will continue to til you answer..
I love that she she stood up to her mom and to Chad but she didn't have to leave and Noah and if she had listened with her heart and not thought he had to say it the way she wanted him to...the last three chapters could have been avoided but it was needed for her to see her strength.
S/N: Perfect follow up 10 years later.

Trigger Warnings include: mention of cheating, death of an animal, body shaming
Abigail is determined to prove everyone wrong, no matter the price. However, Noah is in no mood to let her die trying. So, he volunteers himself to keep her alive out in the wilderness while she chases after her dreams. It’s annoyance at first sight, though there is some drooling involved. Abigail wasn’t afraid to be herself. She had no trouble be exactly who she was without restraint. And it was something Noah admired. She was strong, independent…and then ran back to mommy? It just didn’t feel fitting for that point in the book. But then Noah swooped in and made it all better!

Abigail (h25) travels to Montana, escaping a controlling mother and cheating ex, to explore her love of nature photography but needs to find a backwoods guide to lead her on a trek through Yellowstone. Grumpy mountain man Noah (H35) sees Abigail as yet another city girl ill suited to the rugged outdoors yet reluctantly finds himself agreeing to take her off trail. Abigail may not have spent time in the woods before, but she quickly has Noah seeing that she is much more capable and resilient than he’s given her credit for on their ten-day journey. Lovely to see the change in Noah’s perception of her abilities and to grow to appreciate her skills as a photographer, particularly when her efforts were used to support an NGO. Plenty of building heat as the story progresses from instant attraction through to public interactions. Sweet and spicy mountain man, age gap, grumpy sunshine romantic quickie.
I loved reading the story 'Taken by the Grump' by Erin Havoc. It was such an enjoyable story to read. Abagail Is frustrated in her attempts to get the people in her life to take her seriously. They do not share her belief in herself to make it in a career as a nature photographer. They also find fault with her appearance believing that she would be more attractive if she was thinner. After finding her ex-boyfriend cheating, she sets off for Montana on her own to achieve her dreams. While looking for a wilderness guide, she finds someone who agrees to take her into the wilderness, and she captivates him with her fierce determination and zeal for nature at its finest. He not only accepts her for who she is, but is completely smitten by her and her charms.

This was an entertaining age-gap romance for Abigail and Noah. He's a mountain man that expects to be betrayed, harming the majestic nature around him. Abigail has been harshly and falsely judged by those around her her whole life, including her mother and ex. She's off to explore her photography desires in Montana and show them all ;D Sparks fly between these two, right from the get-go, and while Noah judges Abigail as harshly as the others have, she quickly proves she is waaay more than he thinks. This lets love bloom between them on their 10 day hike. I really couldn't get over how persistent her mother and ex were, but thankfully, love wins out and a smoking hot HEA is the result. Good fun!
I enjoyed this sweet with intense heat romance. A curvy girl, who's a virgin with a sunshine outlook on things meets a jaded older grump of a man. Their first meet up was comical...and I could see I was gonna enjoy this. They started out a little bit rocky, then they had an easy companionship with mutual respect...being forced together there was some intense sexual tension which led to HOT sexy times. Unfortunately there was some angst going on...nobody wants to show their feelings. I was cheering them on tho...knowing there was gonna be a happy ending. What an ending (deep sigh)... I loved it and the wonderful epilogue.

Abby has always had others decide things for her. That being the case, no one ever supported her dreams. After her boyfriend cheats on her, she decides to go to Montana and pursue her dream of photographing nature. She eventually finds a reluctant guide, Noah to take on a 10 day hike for her pictures. In that time, they come to appreciate each other. That appreciation blossoms into something more. I loved the interaction between Noah and Abby. She was always a breath of fresh air while he would try to deflate her but getting his kicks along the way. Erin Havoc writes a wonderful story for Abby and Noah. This is a well written story that I thoroughly loved!.

3.5 stars - This is a nice read with steam, a bit of drama - wildlife and mama drama, and an HEA. While I like Abigail Brown and grumpy Noah, their story didn't capture me completely.
There are some sweet elements, as well as dirty ones, that I really enjoy, but I think I got lost on Chad and her mother. They tear her down in different ways and she never really gives that push back.
Who cares about Montana fall weather when this guy is a walking iceberg. -- Abigail Brown
I really like the banter at the start, I just wish there was more of it throughout.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Abigail just arrived at Aspen Glen right next to the Yellowstone National Park, where she wants to photograph the wildlife and flora. She meets the grumpy and hot older mountain man Noah. Noah sees Abby and thinks she is a city girl that would destroy this sanctuary and wouldn't hack it in the wildness. Abby was always put down by everyone around her, her family , her ex boyfriend that cheated, but she won't allow this grump to do the same. When he is the guide to take her hiking sparks fly, but they kind of hate each other too. But days in nature quickly changes their view. But her ex and her meddling mother threaten their HEA . Enemies to lovers, OTT, sweet, steamy, fun to read , romantic and safe (long celibate H and virgin h)with a sweet HEA 😍😍😍
Abigail proved to everyone that she had what it took to conquer Yellowstone photographing the natural beauty of the park, finally with the help of Noah. He thought she would back down the first day being a city girl, but she persisted on in a positive unbeat attitude that all to soon got under his skin. The attraction was electrifying between them from the beginning making this trip all the harder for Noah to keep his hands to himself. A powerful story of the great outdoors and survival to believing in oneself and going after what you want.

Abigail Brown has finally made some changes that finally encouraged her to follow her own desires instead of pleasing everyone else. She is pursuing nature photography and has chosen the area she wants to explore. She needs a guide and Noah, handsome but grouchy, is just what she needs. He grumpily agrees to guide her for the next few days, but a storm comes in and they have the opportunity to get to know each other, if they can let go of their differences. Is this the start of a new relationship? Or will they endure each other until the storm passes?
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. The characters and back characters were relatable. The story had so much heat. Abigail was precious with her outlook on life considering her situation back home. Noah, oh my word. He drives you crazy but, at the same time you want to just want to smack him upside the head. My favorite scene the hot spring. Sigh....I hope you give this book a shot I'm a sucker for mountain men and I totally hope Ms Havoc writes more because this was awesome.
Abigail has made some major changes in her life and she's now in Yellowstone to do some nature photography. In need of a guide the grumpy mountain man Noah agrees and things take some steamy turns. This is an age gap romance between a curvy girl and a mountain man. This well written romance has likable characters, fun banter, steam, a great ending and I loved the epilogue. Taken By The Grump is book one and a great start to the Burly Mountain Men series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is an instant love romance with a grouchy, reclusive mountain man and a young woman who feels she needs to prove some things, even to herself. Abigail is in town, trying to fulfill a dream. She finds it hard to be taken seriously. Noah doesn't trust her, or really anyone, but he can't stay away from her. I liked how she was determined to prove him wrong. This story has a little heartache, conflict and doubts but it is also funny and sweet with plenty of sparks between them
This is book 1 of Burly Mountain Men. The relationship between Noah and Abigail has a rocky start but with spending time with each other and getting to know more of each other, they started feeling more than what they felt before. They fall for each other, and Noah wanted more from her at the end. It was a great story, and you are going to love it as much as I did. A great start from this series.
