Lady Mary Spence, a beautiful widow, hopes that her flighty daughter Abigail will make a love-match. The vain influence of an overly-ambitious grandmother, the bugles of war, and Lady Mary’s own troubled heart conspire against her hopes. When war breaks out, Lord Robert Kenmare takes Lady Mary and Abigail under his protection. Handsome, wealthy and charming, Lord Kenmare is everything that Lady Mary could desire for her daughter...or for herself. Regency Romance by Gayle Buck; originally published by Signet

This was a gentle traditional regency read. The story although a romantic one would not be qualified as a romance in my opinion. The characters spent quit bit of time apart. There is a tremendous sense of place, history that you have in the story and the main characters are mature, realistic, strong, and lovable people. The author did a great job in portraying the down and aftermath of the battle of Waterloo .
This is a more serious read than a regular Regency romance. In fact, it's more a historical novel set in the Regency period with romantic relationships in there between the politics and the battles. It has a wonderful feel for the time period, and it's much more compelling than the book description shows.
To be fair with the author-- I have not read Regency Romance in a number of years. I need something with a bit more plot, or smut! It was pretty much same old , same old with in this case the mom finding romance and having a daughter the age of 17 and the daughter being a bit of a flirt and the mom wanting to steep herself in widowhood. A bit unrealistic and a bit bland. I like books with more sass these days!
This was a regency romance novel that took place in Belgium at the end of the Napoleonic wars. It begins rather like most regency novels, but towards the end the description of the battle of Waterloo was really well done. I ended up not being able to put the book down until I had finished it after a certain point. Kudos to the author for the cliff hanging action!
