Tuve la fortuna de que una de mis amigas me prestara este tomo, a sabiendas de que soy una persona que le gusta el arte de Van Gogh, cuyas obras sólo fueron conocidas tras su siniestra muerte, y es que si bien sigue sin saberse si fue suicidio o un intento de asesinato, la verdad es que Vincent siempre fue lo que llamamos un artista atormentado. Así pues, Theo, su hermano menor, fue el único en quien podía confiar y quien pudiera decir que lo conocía al derecho y al revés.

En consecuencia, Sayonara, Sorcier me parece una interesante propuesta de su relación como hermanos. En este manga, Theo es el comerciante de obras de arte en Paris del s. XIX, una época en la que si no pertenecías a cierta élite, no tenías ni derecho de pararte en las galerías.

Y, como podrán imaginar, Vincent no entraba en esos cánones, pues su trabajo prácticamente era todo lo contrario a lo que se consideraba hermoso. Sin embargo, Vincent tenía la habilidad de encontrar lo bello hasta en los lugares o las personas más inesperadas. Su hermano Theo lo supo desde el inicio, y quizá esa fue una de las razones principales por las que siempre apoyara su arte.

Van Gogh tenía un don que pocos logran explotar, y si bien era una persona incomprendida, gracias a su hermano (y la esposa de este –lo cual no cuentan en el manga), se convirtió en uno de los artistas más reconocidos a nivel mundial.

Ahora bien, lo gratificante de éste manga es que podemos ver a otros artistas que se unieron al movimiento impresionista, y cómo la gente recibió este nuevo arte. A mi manera de ver las cosas, si una obra te hace sentir algo que se queda corto de palabras, eso es arte. Todos tenemos diferentes gustos estéticos y no porque algo se salga de las reglas establecidas, significa que sea menos hermoso.

El estilo de esta artista es una maravilla no sólo hablando de personajes, sino que también cuida muchísimo el ambiente, y debo agregar, que supo darle un giro a la relación de los hermanos Van Gogh, que agradezco muchísimo. La gran mayoría de cosas que suceden en este primer tomo son hechos verídicos, aunque por supuesto, sigue siendo un “re-telling” de lo que pudo haber sucedido.

Lo recomiendo muchísimo y me da gusto haber tenido la oportunidad de leerlo. Este es de los pocos libros que se convirtieron en mis favoritos del año.

Aku sebenarnya ingin menjadi pelukis.”

Kisah hubungan kompleks Van Gogh bersaudara yang dikemas dengan cukup apik. Rasanya seperti baca komik ‘Seri Tokoh Dunia’... dengan, er, berbagai bumbu tambahan dari penulisnya.

Ada dua jenis gambar dalam buku ini... gambar dari Hozumi-sensei sendiri dan gambar yang dibuat oleh tokoh-tokohnya (terutama Vincent van Gogh). Setelah melalui proses extreme bishounen makeover, kontras antara Theo dan Vincent van Gogh ditampikan melalui nuansa tone dan kodifikasi warna yang cerdik: Theo dengan nuansa ‘gelap’ yang tercermin dari cara berpakaian dan posenya, Vincent dengan nuansa ‘terang’ yang seringkali terlihat 'bling bling' tertimpa sinar matahari. Benar-benar ‘bayangan’ dan ‘cahaya’ yang saling melengkapi.

Lukisan-lukisan Vincent diimitasi dengan cukup baik dan menggambarkan filosofi seninya dengan jelas. Pada dasarnya, pembahasan soal seni dan persepsi penikmat lukisan (terutama di Vol. 1) memang jadi bagian yang paling menarik buat saya dari buku ini.

“Yang namanya lukisan itu bukannya sesuatu yang rumit? Itu lho.. misalnya, melukis orang yang hebat... atau yang membawa pesan mendalam...”

“Lukisan ini juga punya pesan kan? Pesan bahwa ‘roti itu enak’”

“Iya sih... memang kelihatannya enak”

Jadi, apa yang membuat ‘lukisan’ (atau buku, lagu, maupun karya seni lainnya) itu bagus secara objektif? Apa kita baru akan bilang ‘bagus’ kalau memang terkesan ‘penting’? Atau kalau ditampikan di galeri dan dipuji banyak kritikus? Atau kalau dibuat oleh orang yang sudah terkenal dan diakui? Kalau misalnya seorang seniman membuat karya sesuai keinginan sendiri tanpa memedulikan pendapat publik, apa dia bisa dibilang ‘sukses’? Begitulah....

Selain gambar-dalam-gambar, komik ini juga menampilkan ‘cerita-dalam-cerita’, dan dalam hal ini...

Saya paham bahwa kalau ingin mencari yang benar-benar 100% setia pada fakta-fakta sejarah, ya harus baca biografi atau teks non-fiksi lainnya, bukannya malah baca komik hahahaha. Jadi pada dasarnya, saya tidak begitu masalah dengan penulis yang melakukan ‘rekonstruksi sejarah’ ataupun yang bermaksud menyampaikan premis ‘JADI BEGINI LHO KEJADIAN SEBENARNYA’.

Namun dalam penerapannya, metode yang diambil memang berisiko membuat sebagian pembaca mengerutkan kening. Dalam hal ini, rute yang diambil penulisnya mungkin kurang sesuai dengan harapan saya yang ingin melihat adegan-adegan tertentu, plus ada hal-hal (terutama kepribadian Vincent) yang menurut saya terlalu diromantisir (*romantis dalam arti sebenarnya. Tidak ada unsur percintaan dalam komik ini). Terlepas dari soal sejarah sekalipun, adegan klimaksnya terasa dibuat-buat dan terlalu melodramatis bagi saya.

Bagaimanapun, ini penyampaian ‘sejarah alternatif’ yang cukup menarik dan saya menghargai ide kreatif Hozumi-sensei, yang tidak sampai membuat saya menyesal sudah mengoleksi buku ini.

Direkomendasikan untuk penggemar bromance (*dalam artian sebenarnya) dan/atau unsur-unsur yang saya sebutkan di atas.

Saat membaca fiksi yang mengadopsi kisah nyata, tentunya ga ada pembaca yang menelan mentah-mentah kisah fiksi tersebut (^ o ^)
Namun, apa yang kita tahu, sejarah yang kita pelajari, kadang belum tentu sesuai dengan kenyataan. Terutama jika menyangkut karakter atau sifat seseorang.

Karena itu, pendapatku di sini mungkin berpatokan pada "kenyataan umum yang diketahui selama ini" dan bukan pada "kenyataan yang sebenarnya".
Bahwa kehidupan Vincent van Gogh itu bla~ bla~ bla~ (untuk lebih rinci, dapat diintip di sini ^^)

Tapi justru di situ! Di situlah Hozumi-sensei bermain dengan kekreatifannya~
"Siapa tahu, justru apa yang diketahui semua orang selama ini adalah sebuah kebohongan."

Demikian premisnya, menurutku.
Dan itu menuntun pada "kenyataan" bahwa kehidupan VvG yang kita tahu selama ini adalah rekayasa.
Bahwa VvG bukan orang yang seperti "itu", tapi seperti "ini"!

Dan pembaca pun merasa ヽ(°〇°)ﾉ "~wutt??"

Di satu sisi, aku kagum dengan ide kreatif mangaka. Tapi di sisi lain, aku merasa agak 'sakit' (^""^)

Rasa 'sakit' yang timbul saat menyadari bahwa trend masa kini adalah memporakporandakan masa lalu, dan menyusunnya menjadi bentuk yang diinginkan.
Bukan karena "masa lalu" itu begitu buruk dan mengganggu, tapi hanya demi menyusun teori konspirasi yang terlihat cerdas.

Tapi itu adalah masalah yang berbeda~
Membaca komik ini sampai habis membuatku yakin bukan itu maksud mangaka-nya.

Kembali ke masa SD, saat pertama kali membaca ringkasan kisah hidup VvG, ada rasa sedih khas anak-anak yang membuatku menyesali, kenapa orang hebat kok hidupnya seperti ini?
Namanya anak kecil, kepinginnya membaca kisah hidup tokoh yang keren, yang mirip jagoan yang menang terus dengan gegap-gempita~
Lha ini kok seperti ini...

Kembali ke komik, setelah selesai membacanya, rasa agak 'sakit' itu berusaha kutepis~
Mungkin (dan mungkin ini hanya pendapat sotoy-bin-kemeruh-ku).., mungkin Hozumi-sensei hanya ingin menyajikan VvG yang lebih cerah, lebih gembira, dan lebih penuh cinta.

Dan secara keseluruhan, kisah ini memang penuh cinta~
Cinta pada seni, cinta pada cita-cita, dan cinta pada orang yang selalu mempercayaimu.

Cualquier parecido con la realidad de sus personajes es pura coincidencia pero no importa mucho, la verdad. La lucha contra la academia está lograda, me encantan los hermanos y es una lectura bonita en general.

Tenia mucho tiempo que no me sentaba a leer y disfrutar un manga, y debo decir que este tomo fue un grato reencuentro con este formato literario.

Conozco solo lo básico sobre la historia de Van Gogh, que tenia una forma peculiar de encontrar la belleza en el mundo que le rodeaba y que fue un ser sumamente incomprendido. Sin embargo, dos amigas queridas por mi están maravilladas de su vida y obra, así que cuando llegó este manga a mis manos, sentí una enorme curiosidad por ver el enfoque que le daban a la historia de este artista. Y debo decir que este primer tomo no decepciona en lo absoluto.

Los dibujos son preciosos, la forma en que nos cuenta la historia de los hermanos mientras varios pintores más van descubriendo su camino y sumándose a los movimientos artísticos de la época, es maravilloso también. Lo disfruté mucho, me reí a varios ratos y logró que me interesara más por la vida de este pintor, sobre la cual espero leer más material.

Altamente recomendable.

Sejujurnya, kalo bisa saya kepengen banget rak "favorit"-nya saya klik berkali-kali, jadinya "favorit-favorit-favorit-tak terhingga".
Dan sebenernya saya gak merasa sayang untuk ngasih 5 bintang, tapi 1-nya disimpen dulu berhubung penilaian saya untuk jilid pertama masih "bersifat sementara"; pokoknya nilai fix setelah baca tamatnya!!

Uuuuuuh~~~ komik dengan 4 bintang dengan rak "favorit" pertama setelah sekian lamaaaa!!! Lemparkan bunga! Berikan aplaus meriah! Ucapkan puji-pujian!
Sangaaaaat mengesankan! Ini emosi yang biasanya saya rasakan kalo ketemu buku bagus, semacam ketemu jodoh! Pinjem istilah Bang Theo: CINTA.

Rasa-rasanya ada penyesalan kenapa saya baru baca buku sebagus ini sekarang.
Tapi di sisi lain, rasanya bersyukur juga, karena baru baca sekarang makanya bisa baca versi terjemahan Indonesia. (Berhubung saya belakangan ini makin lama makin memilih baca buku dalam bahasa aslinya--selama saya mengerti bahasa asli tersebut).
Terjemahannya itu lhooooo.... Kesan elegan dan borjuis dan estetisnya Paris kala itu tersampaikan dengan baik. Sukaaaaaa~~~

Creo que este manga se va a volver de mis favoritos por el tema que toca y como lo toca. No se si todos los que me siguen acá también me siguen en ig, pero si no bueno, este año que paso decidí dedicarme mas a algo que amo muchísimo que es el arte y creanme que para un artista no hay nada mas difícil que sentir que tu arte no es suficiente, que no es suficientemente bueno, imagínense ahora que una autoridad te lo confirme, que tu arte no es bueno para estar en una exhibición pues eso es justo lo que se nos cuenta en este manga, donde se nos traslada a un Paris bastante conservador donde el arte es solo para la clase alta, donde para un artista promedio es imposible crecer, ¿se imaginan lo frustrante que debe ser? Pues créanme que no seremos los únicos en sentirnos así, uno de los personajes a pesar de no ser artista se tomara esto bastante personal y tratara de destruir ese sistema conversador que existe en el mundo del arte.

I love them so much both of Theo and Vincent I could die. I am fully aware about the story was being tagged in tragedy and judging by the comments I read from the reviewers all over the cyberworld, the tag just meant "tragically heart breaking, leaving people to cry at a corner". I couldn't brace myself.It kills my heart. It has the same vibes as The Perfect World.

It's not exactly based on real history, but I prefer this fictional story version than the real one because I refuse the "theory" about Vincent was suicide. Everytime I read his letter to his brother Theo (now, I stucked in November, 16th 1878) I couldn't deny that he really adored his brother to the point that he couldn't bear himself that he thought himself as a burden. That's why, he did his best to paint. He painted intensively everyday. In the first opening on his letters, he said, "my dear brother" and that sounds really touching for me.

I really love the way mangaka bring her idea mostly to Theo's point of view.Theo explained how Vincent saw the world in these lines. "In life happiness is accompanied by the sadness, right? For Vincent, just being life is beauty. He just accepts everything as it is". The fact that he is Post-impressionist painter after all, Vincent believed it was important to work from reality. For me, the story from manga represented him very well. Vincent in manga is really innocent and pure. Seeing his works as quotidian existence but uniquely himself.

Protagonis dalam kisah ini sebenarnya adalah Theodorus van Gogh, adiknya Vincent van Gogh. Pendukung setia abangnya. Kisah bromance yg disampaikan dengan storytelling yg menyentuh dan emosional. Aku sampai beberapa kali tercekat dan meneteskan air mata karena terharu melihat persaudaraan kedua pria ini. Ini kisahnya memang tidak 100% murni kisah hidup Vincent dan Theo yg sebenarnya, tapi mangaka mahir juga menyusun plot untuk membuat fiksi karangannya ini terkesan masuk akal dan dapat diterima pembaca, hahaha. Jadi bagi yg ingin tahu kisah hidup Vincent van Gogh yg sebenarnya, kusarankan wiki sajalah, ;p dan silakan baca josei manga yg satu ini dengan mindset "for fun saja". Beda dengan asli, tapi tetap menghibur. Apalagi gaya gambarnya juga enak dilihat. :)
Tapi bagi fans setia Vincent van Gogh mungkin bakal ngamuk karena kisah hidupnya dipelintir seperti ini, lol.

Cuando abrí este manga en la biblioteca y vi el nombre de Van Gogh pensé lo peor: "¡ya lo han transformado en un héroe de acción!", pero me equivocaba. La historia cuenta la relación de los hermanos Van Gogh: Theo y Vincent, en el París de finales del s.XIX, donde Theo era un marchante de arte en una de las mas importantes galerías y Vincet intentaba hacerse un hueco en el mundo del arte.

Pese a ser fan de Vincent van Gogh, existen muchos aspectos que desconozco y uno de ellos era la relación que existía con su hermano Theo (es verdad que hay un libro que se llama Cartas a Theo donde se detalla esa relación a través de las cartas que escribió Vincent van Gogh). Y me parece interesante, ya que, no solo cuenta la historia de estos dos hermanos, sino también, de como funcionaba (o sigue funcionando) el mundo del arte en el París de los impresionistas; de como los nuevos artistas como Tolouse- Lautrec intentaban hacerse un hueco en un mundo demasiado encorsetado en viejos cánones en los que "las moderneces" no tenían cabida.

No sé hasta que punto es real lo que aparece en el manga, aunque por lo que cuenta y como lo cuenta, algo de verdad debe haber. Yo, por ejemplo, que desconocía este dato al buscarlo en la Wikipedia resultó ser cierto, por lo que mi fascinación por este manga (y la historia) han aumentado.

Yo I didn't even know Vincent Van Gogh had a brother?? Actually there's a lot of things I don't know about the art world, so this story was really eye-opening in terms of how art galleries and art collectors actually operate and how artists couldn't even display their work without it being assessed and recognized by the Académie—essentially, the prevalence of conservatism and gatekeeping in high society painting circles. As usual Hozumi's art style is great and easy to follow. The relationship between the brothers was interesting and lowkey reminded me of Yuukoku no Moriarty; after reading the next volume I'd be interested to know how historically accurate the portrayal of their relationship is. From the title and the tone at the end of this volume it's pretty evident this story will be a tragedy, so tbh I might not continue right away.

Si sabes 3 cosas de arte o de Van Gogh medio que hay cosas que te chirrian. Pero si abstraes tu mente de eso y pensas en la historia como si fuera un "basado en hechos reales" o una ficción historica todo se hace más llevadero.

Ahora ya en la historia en si. Que atrapante! Y también interesante. Como nos situamos en ese momento historico en el que el arte occidental sufrió un gran giro con el surgimiento del impresionismo y todo estos nuevos pensamientos y técnicas(repito, se 3 cosas de arte, pero me interesa mucho). También plantea preguntas como A qué consideramos arte? Y a que no? Por qué?", etc.
Otra sorpresa para bien, aveces elegir al azar libros de la biblio da sus frutos :D.

Una història molt sui generis sobre Theo Van Gogh, germà del cèlebre pintor holandès que era marxant d'art, i la seva relació fraternal amb Vincent. El còmic aprofundeix sobre el conflicte entre el món acadèmic conservador que defensa que l'art ha de seguir unes normes i ha de plasmar temes dignificats i les noves avantguardes que tot just sorgien i revolucionaven el panorama bohemi de París. No sé fins a quin punt té rigor històric o es permet certes llicències (com ara l'aparença física dels germans), però és curiós anar reconeixent personatges com ara Toulouse-Lautrec i imaginar-se com és viure a l'ombra d'un geni.

Me ha encantado, de verdad. Yo no soy muy de cuadros y demás pero no me he aburrido en ningún momento, este primer tomo me ha parecido muy entretenido y además muy bueno en todos los aspectos, desde la historia de los dos hermanos y la lucha de los pintores por que su arte sea reconocido como importante o valioso y no se tengan que ajustar al canon de la época y que el arte no es solo cosa de ricos, hasta el dibujo de la autora y, todo ello, con una carga emocional maravillosa. Los dos hermanos son fascinantes cada uno a su manera.

This manga is just a masterpiece.

I can’t tell you my feelings about this manga, it’s been 2 years and I still can’t get over it, i mean if you said “van Gogh” I’ll think of this!

I really loved how the mangaka wrote the story like its a reel thing i even believed it and went straight to read van Gogh’s reel story (but actually even though I read his real story i still believe this manga*lol*)

I really wasn’t interested about van Gogh but after this i became a fan!

Me encantó este manga, es el primero que leo que maneja un tema de realismo histórico, y me pareció espectacular por las emociones que me despertó este manga.

Nos cuenta sobre la vida de los hermanos Van Gogh, Théodorus y Vincent, de su infancia y como se va desarrollando el artista que actualmente conocemos con la ayuda de su hermano, en aquellos tiempos donde no se reconocía el arte sin ser autorizado por cierto gremio con poder social.

I love this manga, It literally moved my heart. Theo is a really important figure that rests behind Vincent's works,(I hope more people will recognise his importance)and I'm happy that this manga left him some space. Both the characters were valued equally, emotions, relationships... Such a different and interesting story!

el dibujo es presioso, te da a conocer un poco del contexto de un francia del siglo 18 en el arte. Conoces a los personajes y este primer tomo se basa mas en theodoreus van goh, un astuto marchante de arte que comienza a difundir el arte para el ojo publico y no para unos cuantos.

Salah satu ciri khas Hozumi yang benar-benar memikat adalah kemampuan beliau menciptakan suasana dalam ceritanya. Banyak panel tanpa bubble yang malah semakin memikat pembaca untuk menikmati goresan gambarnya yang halus dan ketenangan apa adanya.

Un primer tomo muy interesante. Creo que, aunque se parece muy poco a la historia real de ambos protagonistas, la trama es muy buena y engancha con facilidad. De cierta forma es muy verosímil y hace que sea muy sencillo introducirse dentro de ese París de finales del siglo XIX.
