this series is a good starter pack. it contains brief information on a lot of different things, and is a good place to do beginner reference and expand further from there. i'm also a sucker for the format and style of the books - they just look good, and i can't help but think of how good they'd look together on my bookshelf. as a bibliophile, i really like this series.

obviously, don't consult these for in-depth research. but, again, they're a good place to start broad, wide-ranging consultation. not to be crass but they'd be good bathroom/coffee table reading, too. it's kind of like wikipedia - great place to dip your feet in, but it's just the surface, and should be taken with a grain of salt. very useful if used properly.

A huge book with tons of information about all kinds of paranormal topics. From types of divination and healing methods you've never heard of, to all kinds of beings, famous hauntings, places and people - and so much more. Each entry can be anywhere from one paragraph to a few pages long. I kinda wished there were pictures, but that would make this book even more than 800 pages. I definitely googled many of the things I read about to learn more. It was surprisingly easy to read, I didn't think I would read it cover to cover, and in about a week! I will keep this, I picture my daughter flicking through it one day, cause I would have loved this book as a kid.

This book was very educational on the different practices that are out there to open your third eye, or to become a very practiced psychic. I don't believe that every psychic ability is known to man, or has been found. The ones in here were very traditional, and have been spoken about many different times. I did enjoy the book, and found it educational, and well put together. It was also insightful for those who aren't psychic but wish to be spiritual and receive messages. You don't have to be psychic to speak to the dead, or receive messages and signs. But if you disrespect God or anything supernatural, you will find signs, but they will lead you down roads you don't want to go. The book also had some hauntings in it as well, famous hauntings, or interesting ones worth sharing. I highly recommend this book for those who are curious about these so called psychics.

As with the 'Dream Dictionary' by Theresa Cheung, it is hard to justify saying the book has been read, as I find myself referring to it reasonably often, if not for myself, but for my grandchildren, who both seem to follow my interest in the Psychic World.

A well researched book that presents a good broad slice of psychic phenomena. Ideal for any one researching any sort of paranormal fiction or any mentalists who are looking for realistic sounding patter (or any one else with an interest in the strange world of psychic phenomena), but there are limits to what this encyclopedia offers. It's certainly a great resource to get you started.

There is a lot of good information about folkloric beliefs and things that should not been forgotten. This almost takes the place of the Set called Man, Myth and Magic.
