the sheer efficiency and orderliness to the ss state is just… terrifying. it’s very hard to come to terms with how humans are capable of such evil, how humans will volunteer with enthusiasm to do such horrid things, and how far they’ll go to justify it. i definitely want to read more on this subject, the holocaust is (justifiably so) discussed as one of the biggest crimes of humanity, but here we all stand, watching similar crimes unfold with the same nescience … even having read this, i still cannot fully wrap my head around how we got from point A to B without any hesitation, any pause. at every progression i was dumbfounded by the lack of pushback (literally speaking there was pushback but it confounds me how there wasn’t MORE). definitely gonna look for more reads on this. this felt like a good introduction though

From a certain angle the Third Reich seemed the epitome of organization and efficiency. From any other angle all was rot.
